Americor is a debt relief company based in Irvine, California. The company has relieved more than $2 billion of debt. Its more than 400 employees provide debt settlement services to borrowers with at least $3,500 of debt.

Americor offers a debt settlement program in which clients submit their information, consult with the company, and apply for a program. Then, the company assigns you a negotiator who works to settle your debts with your creditor or creditors, typically for 55 to 65 percent of the original enrolled balance.

Like most debt relief companies, Americor works with unsecured debt such as credit card debt or sometimes personal loan debt. If you have significant secured debt, such as mortgage or car loan debt, a debt relief company is probably not going to be able to help you.

Americor’s debt relief program helps with common creditors, banks, and delinquencies including, but not limited to, credit card debt, payday loans, medical debt, private student loans, lines of credit (LOCs), and personal business debts.

While the services outlined above are typically offered by most debt relief companies, Americor sets itself apart by also offering debt relief programs for auto repossessions, mortgage debt, tax debt, and cellular debt.

Simple Process

Americor offers a simple path to debt relief. You submit how much debt you have and the company provides you with available debt relief options.

Then, the company helps you apply for the right debt relief plan, and if accepted, you are enrolled and assigned a negotiator that will work to settle your debts with your creditors. Typically, negotiators are able to settle for 50–60 percent of the original balance.

After you have completed the program, you work to pay off your remaining, lower debts, and ultimately achieve a debt-free life.

No Upfront Fees

Like many other reputable debt settlement companies, Americor doesn’t charge customers for its services until after it has settled their debt. This is a feature you should always look for in a debt relief company, and you shouldn't trust a company that does not offer a free consultation.

Will I owe taxes on the amount of debt that is forgiven through a successful negotiation?

Some creditors may issue a 1099c for the amount of debt forgiven over $600. If this occurs, you may be able to file form 982 with your income tax return to offset any tax liability. Will I be able to enroll all of my debts in Americor's program?

No. The program focuses on unsecured debt like credit cards, medical bills, and personal loans. Loans that are secured by collateral such as your home or an automobile do not qualify for our program.

Can I negotiate my own debts?

The short answer is yes. It is possible for you to contact your creditors directly and negotiate your own debts. However, Americor negotiators have years of experience and direct relationships with creditors and collection agencies. Unless you are a skilled negotiator and extremely knowledgeable about the credit and collection industry, you may not be able to negotiate agreements as favorable as the ones Americor negotiators may reach on your behalf.

Who is holding the funds I save each month? 

By law, all debt resolution providers are required to use an independent third-party payment processor to hold consumer funds while the consumer is enrolled in a debt resolution program. After enrolling in Americor's debt resolution program, the company will assist you in setting up a savings account with a licensed, third-party payment processor who will hold your savings funds and distribute all negotiated payments to your creditors in a timely manner. You are the owner of this account and you control all of the funds deposited and debited from the account.

Does a debt resolution program help repair my credit once I have completed the program?

No. Americor is not a credit repair company, and it does not offer credit repair services. However, negative items remain on your credit report for up to 84 months (7 years), so the sooner you are able to resolve your debts, the sooner you will be able to rebuild your credit with new credit accounts and timely payments.

Does a debt resolution program affect my credit score?

If you do not make timely minimum payments each month, or if you allow your credit cards to go into a charge-off status after six months of no payment, your credit score will be negatively impacted. This is true whether you enroll in a debt resolution program or not. The sooner you are able to resolve your delinquent accounts or negotiate a repayment plan for less than you owe, the sooner negative items will begin to not be factored into your credit score and the sooner you will be able to begin to rebuild your credit.

How long does it take to complete a debt resolution program?

While each person’s situation is unique, and it is dependent on how much debt you enroll and how fast you can save, Americor clients are typically able to complete a debt resolution program in 24 to 48 months.

How long does it take before I typically see results?

Clients typically see their first account resolved in four to seven months.

Can Americor guarantee all of my debts will be successfully negotiated through its program?

Americor will not enroll a creditor that the company has not successfully negotiated with. Part of the enrollment process is to determine which of your creditors Americor can and can not enroll. Americor has been successful negotiating debts by most all credit card companies since 2009.

How are fees charged and paid in a debt resolution program?

Americor never charges a fee until it is able to successfully resolve one of your accounts. When the company receives an offer from one of your creditors, it will submit a written agreement to you for your review and approval. Americor's fees are then paid on a prorated basis once the settlement payment is made.

I am personally very happy with the service that Americor has given me. I started with Americor in September 2022 with 8 accounts and by the middle of April they had successfully settled 5 of my 8 accounts and are still negotiating the other 3 accounts. I have been approved for the Credit9 loan but at this time I am waiting for another 4 - 6 months before deciding whether to accept the loan or not. I would heartily recommend Americor to anyone that is having trouble paying down on their credit accounts.

So far they have done everything they said they would do. The process was very transparent from the start. I was a person that was on time, but struggling to pay my debt down. Michael, my account manager called me one day and gave me a breakdown of how they could help. First thought, I was not ok with it. I worked very hard for my good credit score. He explained to me how my score would bounce back. Asking me great questions about my future and where I wanted to be. Initially I wanted a debt consolidation loan, but Americor was unable to make that happen. It turns out that the program is actually a better option. Although I am scared to take the credit hit, it is unbelievably calming to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there IS an end of the tunnel. Although we have managed to settle all my debt but for 2. remaining it has been a tumultuous relationship . It’s sometimes hard to get a hold of my spokesperson and they don’t always have answers. Hello America! I'm a primary school teacher who got caught up in bureaucracy when I moved from Florida to Hawaii to teach. I did recommend a friend to Americor and she went with them. I can't remember the girl's name, but I usually talk to her and she, she's very understanding. She talks to me and she explains things to me as far as you know that this is going to go into effect. She's a very pleasant person to deal with. They're not out to overcharge you on your payments and stuff like that. I make two payments a month and it's reasonable to where I can afford it and not have to worry about how I'm going to pay. Thankful for the text messages the phone calls from the lawyers. Also direction and advice on how to handle phone calls and gave me rules of recieving calls from credit card callers they showed me and explained ways so im protected and shouldn't fear collector calls. Mostly gave me peace from worry about late fees and do and donts that this company will do or not so I know who is requesting payments. Best to just not answer and block the numbers is good advice, or tell them your working on getting them money through my lawyers and hang up. I am close to the end of my program and couldn’t be happier. This has taken a huge burden off my shoulders. No one likes being in debt, sometimes just happens and spirals out of control. To have companies like Americor available to help get you out of trouble is amazing. Recently I had questions on the way things were handled. A top level person David reached out to me. It made all the difference, to have a clearer picture of what really was happening. I’m so grateful for his call, he was so respectful of being in debt, no shame at all. The thing that impressed me most, was he appreciated some of my suggestions and said he was going to bring them to the attention of the leaders in Americor. That really made me feel proud that I spoke up but didn’t bad mouth them in a disrespectful way, and that my suggestions might make someone later understand the process that I didn’t. I pray to God I will never be in debt again and carry that burden of shame. So I hope to not ever have to reach out to Americor again for help, but would recommend it to anyone in that situation. Today I’m three years out of having a credit card and out of debt by the end of Dec, for the first time that I can remember in a very long time. They did a great job getting my accounts settled. They made sure that the payment plans were affordable for me based off the one monthly payment I made to the account I had for them. All the money stays in your name and control. At no point do you lose control of your money. They also have terrific customer service. Each time I called in, (which was usually for clarification purposes or something that wasn't their fault) I was always treated like a human being and not just another call. The only downside to their program is the fees they charge. Once you add those to paying the settlements, you're only saving about 25-35% from the total amount you enrolled. They also collect their fee before paying your creditors. That means it takes longer to get the creditors paid off, delaying your credit score going back up.

Yes you have to follow the process, yes your credit takes a big hit but they work hard hand and in hand with the creditors to get the best settlement they can for you!! Just you can’t get discouraged by your credit even if something big happens like having to buy a new car like I did and kept getting denied but I could a another way that I didn’t want to do but I had to just lucky I had that stash for hard times and I know not everyone has that!! When I started with them, my understanding was that the program will be a total of 48 months and I will have to deposit every month an amount of $330 . Bu t a few months ago they contacted me a few times about settlement with some of my creditors but mentioned to me that I might need to add more money for them to settle. It happened a few times and I feel that Americor negotiator are competing who can get more money out of any settlement. That is just my feeling of how they handle my settlement program.

I like Americor in his they made you feel and sure things will be taken care of. They explained everything perfectly including what to do when you got collection letters and was so impressed with the client portal that you could review what’s going on. I’m so impressed with this company and recommend this to all my friends who has credit card issues! THEY ARE AWEDOME!

I was sent NY plan in writing so I could see how I would progress. I appreciated the follow up on my decision to pursue and explanation given about the program details. When asked for clarification during the enrollment process, the consultant, Alex, was able to explain and provide factual statistics on various scenarios and discussed a solution on how to address. Feeling financially burdened is scary enough; this process did help to provide a bit of relief and solidify a plan out of financial burden, forward. My company trustworthiness scale may change/increase once negotiations are finalized.
