The Good

  • Solar Insure Warranty
  • Service Area
  • Equipment Partners
  • Financing Options

Solar Insure Warranty

Solar systems are an investment. To protect this investment and provide a level of peace of mind for each client, solar installation companies will offer warranties. Generally, the equipment warranty will be provided by the manufacturer of the equipment itself. These warranties are generally 25 years in length and cover the cost to repair or replace faulty equipment. The solar installation companies themselves will then offer workmanship warranties that protect against installation issues. The industry average for these warranties sit around 10 years. Summit Energy goes above and beyond offering extended warranty options through SolarInsure. With this warranty, clients will receive:

  • Protection for up to 30 years
  • Transferable extended warranty protection
  • Assumes 100% of solar efficiency risk
  • Straightforward claims process
  • No deductible needs to be met
  • Parts and labor are covered 100%
  • Clients owns the policy

There are not many solar installation companies that come close to offering this level of warranty, let alone providing clients the option to extend its coverage but Summit Energy does.

Service Area

Solar has typically been viewed as a geographically limited service, meaning a vast majority of companies either provide services in one state or a select few identified cities. Solar companies that do expand into other states typically do so through a dealership program or grow business gradually in hopes of development across state lines. Summit Energy has taken its expansion seriously, not wasting any time to ensure that it can help as many prospective solar clients as possible. Currently, Summit Energy offers solar installation in the following states:

  • Utah
  • Texas
  • South Carolina
  • New york
  • Massachusetts
  • Rhode Island
  • New Hampshire
  • Maine

By offering services in eight different states, Summit Energy is able to help more interested solar clients than the average solar installation operation.

Equipment Partners

Many solar installation companies will become a certified dealer or installer of one solar manufacturer’s equipment. Others will have partnerships with a few different solar equipment producers, in hopes of providing a cost effective system to each client. Summit Energy ensures that clients will receive a customized system at the best rate with its solar energy equipment partnerships.

To date Summit Energy has partnered with the following companies and brands:

  • REC
  • Aurora
  • Blue Wave
  • Canadian Solar
  • CED Greentech
  • ChargePoint
  • Dividend
  • Enphase
  • Fortune Energy
  • Nest
  • Panasonic
  • LED Philips
  • Solaria
  • SolarEdge
  • Spruce
  • Trina Solar

Having this many equipment partnerships should go a long way with prospective customers. Designs will be completely catered to the property and competitive rates will be offered in nearly every instance.

Financing Options

Having a solar system installed is an investment. The average solar system in the United States costs $15,000-$25,000 to have installed. While tax incentives can help with these costs, the entire figure will not be covered. To combat the steep prices, most solar installation companies will offer at least one financing option to its clients. Summit Energy offers its clients three different financing solutions including:

Cash

  • Client owned
  • No financing costs
  • Minimal paperwork
  • 25-year warranty
  • Receive all tax credits and incentives
  • Maximize system ROI

Loan

  • Client owned
  • $0 upfront costs
  • Relatively low monthly payments
  • Fast qualification process
  • 25-year system warranty
  • Access tax credits and incentives

PPA

  • Summit Solar owned
  • $0 upfront cost
  • Nearly guaranteed qualification
  • Locked in rates
  • Summit Solar insures and maintains

By offering a number of financing solutions, Summit Energy ensures clients are likely to find a plan that suits their financial needs and constraints.

The Bad

  • Time in Solar Industry
  • Residential and Commercial Solutions Only

Time in Solar Industry

Between 2010–2020, an influx of solar installation companies flooded the industry. The emergence of the federal and state tax incentives as well as other financing programs pushing solar efforts resulted in an influx of property owners inquiring about solar energy.

Companies founded before the rise in solar popularity have more experience and have a better base to draw from in terms of efficiency of installed solar systems over a period of time. Unfortunately, Summit Energy is not one of these more established solar companies, having only been founded in 2016. It should be noted, however, that the leadership at Summit Energy have been involved in the industry prior to the company’s inception.

Residential and Commercial Solutions Only

Not every property is made to support a solar system. Whether it is a high pitched roof, an awkward layout, or limited accessibililty to adequate sunlight, installing solar on a rooftop may not work out for a number of reasons. To combat this issue, some solar installation companies are offering ground mount solutions in the event that a traditional roof-top system will not work.

However, Summit Energy does not offer ground mount solutions at this time and focuses solely on roof installs on residential and commercial properties.

The Bottom Line

Summit Energy provides comprehensive commercial and residential solar installation services. Since its founding, Summit Energy has expanded its services to include eight different states. To date, the company has dozens of equipment partnerships bringing clients tier-1 solar equipment and, most notably, the REC solar panels. Additionally, Summit Energy offers a number of financing options including a month-to-month solar plan.

While there are a number of reasons prospective solar clients would be interested in what Summit Energy has to offer, there are some key things to be aware of. First the company launched during peak solar opportunity and has only been in business since 2016. The company also only offers solar installation on roof projects; no ground mounting options are available.

Considering all key factors, clients in the Summit Energy service area would be wise to contact the company for services and a consultation. The company offers an industry-leading extended warranty, has access to some of the best equipment in the industry, and all professionals are certified with the NABCEP.
