National Debt Relief is one of the largest debt settlement companies in the nation. Its goal is to help clients re-establish financial stability and peace of mind in the least amount of time possible.

The company works hard to ensure a positive experience with proven results through education and individual customer care. It has a $7,500 minimum debt requirement.

National Debt Relief wants individuals to achieve freedom from financial debt by receiving debt reduction services and financial consultations so that they will stop drowning in debt and will continue to live debt-free.

Many debt relief customers frequently complain about always speaking to a different person every time they call in, causing some friction in the customer experience. Additionally, fees are relatively low (18 to 25 percent of total enrolled debt) but are slightly higher than the industry average.

The company has quite the record of settling debts between 30 to 50 percent less than what its clients owe.

National Debt Relief Cost

Positive National Debt Relief reviews indicate that NDR has a low cost (18-25 percent), one of the reasons some customers love the company. National Debt Relief charges from 18 to 25 percent of the customer's total enrolled debt; the company works with all unsecured debt and some cases of student loans. Most debt relief companies do not work with secured debt. Student loans are a kind of secured debt, so its nice that National Debt Relief helps with those on a case by case basis.

If a customer enrolls $100,000 of debt in NDR's debt settlement program, the company can generally cut the debt by 50 percent, making your debt $50,000 instead of $100,000. If you add on the 18 to 25 percent cost for NDR's debt settlement services, you'll pay between $68,000 and $75,000.

Customers should be aware that cost is difficult to forecast because of the variables of each individual financial situation. To accurately measure cost, company employees must take into account the determination of creditors, the customer's credit score, the amount of debt, and state laws governing percentages that can be charged.

Approximate cost is usually determined in a free, no-obligation consultation with a debt expert. By law, no debt settlement company can charge upfront fees. Instead, payment isn't required until after debt is settled. Most companies allow a monthly payment plan, as is the case with National Debt Relief.

Potential clients should take advantage of the free consultation to learn about specific cost information for their situation.

Great Service and Settlement Program

National Debt Relief offers great features including:

  • 18-25 percent fees (competitive within the industry)
  • Consultations with no fees attached
  • $7,500 minimum debt required (industry average)

Past National Debt Relief clients have indicated that they appreciate the transparency offered by the company, the speed of debt resolution, reasonable costs, and professional level of support. Additionally, some reviews from former National Debt Relief customers who had canceled their service mentioned receiving unexpected refunds.

But how exactly does the National Debt Relief program work? The debt settlement program or settlement process is three-way; it involves the debtor (you), the settlement company, and the creditors.

With NDR, customers can expect to settle any type of unsecured debt (student loan debt, medical debt, credit card debt, etc.). Unsecured debt does not have any property attached to it as collateral (such as home loan debt or car loan debt).

It is important for customers to carefully monitor their credit score and credit report. Note that the nature of debt settlement will involve moderate to heavy penalties on your credit score.

Debt settlement companies generally have clients stop making payments so that the lenders become more willing to start debt negotiation. Stopping to make even minimum payments will affect your credit.

Instead, clients pay money into a savings account each month. The money in the account will be used in the settlement agreements with creditors. Once the debt is settled, the client's credit report will show that the debts were settled, not paid in full.

Many settlement companies, including National Debt Relief, do not provide credit repair or credit monitoring services.

Those considering a debt settlement program should be aware that loan forgiveness counts as taxable income. It's important to be prepared to pay taxes on forgiven debt when going through the process.

The challenge for the settlement company is to weigh the debtors present and future financial situation against the patience and requirements of the creditors. The fact that NDR is generally providing quality customer service while navigating the testy relationship between the creditors and debtors is significant.

Those with credit card debt, medical debt, and unsecured loan debt will find that NDR understands how to get ahead of creditors.

Referrals For Debt Consolidation

There are two debt solutions in the debt relief industry: debt settlement and debt consolidation. Sometimes a debt consolidation program is really a debt management program. In these programs, a debt counselor helps clients create a repayment plan and stick to it. A repayment plan may include a strategy like finding ways to save more money or increasing your monthly payment toward one or several debts to reduce the amount owed faster.

If National Debt Relief discovers that its settlement services aren't right for you, NDR will refer you to Liberty Lending for a debt consolidation loan.

The difference between a good debt settlement program and debt consolidation loans is that a consolidation loan will weigh less heavily on your credit report because you pay the debt in full while debt settlement will aim to settle your debts at a fraction of the total money owed (sometimes as low as 30 percent of your total enrolled debt).

For debt consolidation, the company puts all of your debts into one monthly payment and tries to negotiate lower interest rates with debtors, making it easier for you to track and pay your fees.

This tactic of handling debt is also referred to as a debt management plan or debt management program. These terms are more accurate because most consolidation companies help with debt management and do not offer consolidation loans to their clients. Debt management programs also offer clients counseling services which can help them avoid future debt problems and minimize unexpected financial hardship.

However, some people are in too much debt to use debt consolidation programs; this is the reason for debt settlement plans. If you decide to settle your debt instead of figuring out a payment plan, National Debt Relief is a good option.

The debt settlement fees from National Debt Relief (at 25 percent) are slightly higher than typical fees in the industry, but if the National Debt Relief program can get your fees down below 18 percent (a low among industry fees), you should consider using its debt settlement services.

In your search for the right debt management company, be sure to give lower fees a high priority. However, it is important to take into account how much NDR can lower the total debt from your creditors.

Creditors have been known to settle with debt settlement companies for around 30 percent of the total debt amount. To figure out how much this will cost the debtor total, you must add the company’s fees (around 18 percent) to the debt settlement amount (between 30 and 50 percent). This means the customer will likely pay around 50 to 70 percent of the total debt amount.

Because National Debt Relief refers clients whose financial situations are better suited to consolidation, potential clients can trust National Debt Relief to put their interests before its business interests.

Other Types of Debt

National Debt Relief focuses on helping customers in trouble with unsecured debt creditors, like credit card companies, but also some forms of debt as well, including private student loan debt, which is rare in this industry.

Many debt relief companies work solely with customers with unsecured debt. Additionally, the company claims to offer debt consolidation services (which do require higher credit scores), another rare occurrence in the debt relief industry.

Once NDR identifies a customer's type of debt and verifies that it can help with that specific problem, the customer will open a special savings account in their name. Instead of paying your creditors, you will deposit your money into this private savings account. These funds are then used to pay the settlement.

Industry Accreditations

Another great part about National Debt Relief's service is their industry accreditations with the American Fair Credit Council (AFCC) and the International Association of Professional Debt Arbitrators (IAPDA). National Debt Relief is also compliant with the Federal Trade Commision (FTC).

These accreditations help legitimize the organization and ensure debt settlement companies follow consumer-friendly best practices.

Money-Back Guarantee

A money-back guarantee is a must-have in the debt settlement industry. National Debt Relief offers a 100 percent money-back guarantee. Companies offer money-back guarantees and take preventative measures in order to lessen the risk you take.

The fact that debt relief companies rarely guarantee a time or price range for settlement negotiation makes customers a bit hesitant.

To combat this, most debt arbitrators will check your credit report and ask for income information in order to ensure more accurate rates.

Availability

National Debt Relief's debt settlement and debt consolidation services are available in 41 states and territories, a higher availability than most debt relief companies. The company is not available in Connecticut, 42Illinois, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Carolina, Vermont, or West Virginia.

Additional Services

National Debt Relief provides additional services for those customers who would be better served by not using debt settlement. Some customers would prefer debt consolidation, bankruptcy, or simple financial education services. Of course, if one can get out of debt on their own, one should try to do so.

If a customer needs help deciding whether bankruptcy is a good option (and whether to file chapter 7 or chapter 13), National Debt Relief will counsel customers on the right path forward.

The company also provides extensive financial education services to help you stay on your feet after you get out of debt.

The Bad

  • Short Time in Business
  • No Permanently Assigned Representative
  • Few Additional Services

Short Time in Business

One concern with National Debt Relief is that they have only been in business since 2009. While this is not a major problem, it is shorter than many competitors.

Additionally, the company has only been offering in-house debt settlement services since 2017, so you might not be able to deal with as many debt settlements experts at NDR as opposed to other debt settlement companies (the same goes for the company's debt consolidation services).

Usually, when customers approach the debt settlement program, it is with reluctance, poor credit scores, and few assets; this means that those with high credit card bills or medical bills are risking their credit scores on a company with lower experience than other debt relief companies.

However, those in risk of bankruptcy are still better off with NDR, as credit scores usually bounce back faster following debt settlement as opposed to the increase of credit score following bankruptcy.

No Permanently Assigned Representative

National Debt Relief does not have one representative assigned to each individual client's case. This can be frustrating for those who call in to talk about their situation with creditors or to view case information because they will often talk to a new representative each time.

Not every customer has the same type of debt or financial situation; one customer might have high student loan debt while another might have credit card debt. This can cost both the debt settlement company and the client time and cause frustration.

Independent of whether you have student loan or credit card debt, not having an assigned representative or a credit counselor can make the whole process harder to handle.

Because debt collectors are constantly harassing you, it's always good to have someone familiar to talk to about your situation. You are also more likely to get sincere customer service from companies that offer assigned reps. Every debt relief company should assign a personal rep.

Few Additional Services

The company's disclaimer states that it does not make payments to creditors, provide tax, bankruptcy, or legal advice. Some debt relief companies (both debt settlement and debt consolidation companies) provide such services in addition to the debt relief services offered. For example, if you are overwhelmed by secured debts, National Debt Relief's services may not be available to you.

Additionally, NDR does not offer credit repair services. Such financial and legal services can be extremely useful, as debt settlement will result in a lower credit score and has been known to prompt the occasional lawsuit against the debtor.

However the specialization in debt settlement is especially valuable for clients because it means that the company focuses its energy on offering quality negotiation services.

gavel

The Bottom Line

There are many settlement companies to choose from. National Debt Relief is a good option for those looking to obtain relief from credit card debt and even student loans because it can negotiate a settlement that is 30 to 50 percent lower than the total debt owed. We encourage those who may benefit from this to take advantage of their free consultation. Be aware of the effects of the debt settlement process on your credit score and credit report. However, if you're considering filing for bankruptcy, debt settlement can be a good alternative.

The company didn't start negotiating credit card, medical, or unsecured debt in-house until 2017 (this means NDR might not have as much debt experience as other settlement companies).

Customers with bad credit scores due to high credit card debt, medical bills, and unsecured loans such as personal loans will find National Debt Relief helpful. Customers should note that a lower credit score is a likely outcome with settlement services and should carefully weigh the benefits of debt settlement with the negatives of a lower credit score.

Customers should know that National Debt Relief typically charges its clients 18 to 25 percent of the total amount of money owed for its settlement services. Before committing to National Debt Relief's debt solutions, customers should ask for specific cost information during their free consultation.

We recommend customers consider National Debt Relief as an alternative to bankruptcy because of its strong history of negotiating good settlements for its clients.

This is awesome👍 I thought it wouldn't happen this soon, but National Debt Relief did it. I started with them 2/3/20 & it's now 6/28/21. They also go an extra mile having Liberty help speed up the process & finalize my remaining debt. It's sort of like a baseball team bringing out their prize picture at the end of the last inning to clinch the game. I was indebt for $30,000 & NDR managed my debt down to 13,427.09. They do everything, all you do is accept the deal they make by phone or e-mail. Think about it! Again, I thank National Debt Relief for their excellent & professional help for getting me out of a debt "I created". Of course, it wasn't intentional but it was still me that did it.

I was very impressed on how they handled my accounts at first... I paid off the contract in October of 2020, 7 months after signing a 2 yr contract I was disappointed in how long it took to settle on my last 2 creditors. It took them over 9 months to get them settled even having all the money there to pay them off. That was very frustrating....but all in all...was very happy after the final payoff was finally settled. Yes, I will definitely recommend this company to my friends. Thank you for helping me out of my tough situation and I cannot wait till I get my good credit back again. Pauline Ellison

I initially called to look into debt consolidation. However the rep I spoke with offered a different option. I was hesitant at first. But what really sold me with this company was the attention and honesty I received from the representatives. They spent hours (literally first call was nearly 2 hrs as was the second) answering my questions, and explaining the pros and cons. Yes the waiting is hard and can be a bit stressful, but I received my first resolved account, and a 45% difference really showed me my future with this company.

It was a dark and dim future I saw with my credit after having lost a job and making ends meet. I resolved that by being diligent and fight to look for another job and keep working....SO The next step was to deal with my credit issues. Having fallen behind, I needed money before I started getting paid. In essence, I was needing to spend money I didn't have yet, so I searched for loans. I was directed to NDR It took two weeks to get them started, on my part. They are ready to save you money if you just read the information as to what they are about, will accomplish and how the benefits will come. I was skeptical, but that was being uninformed as it was my doing. Now, I know what I want from NDR and they are delivering. The creditor WILL tell you they can do the same thing for you but that is when its too late and not as beneficial a settlement as NDR can do for me. NDR will take those debts off your shoulders and relieve the stress the day you get interviewed and even more when you actually let them start working for you.. There is so much more to say with the light shining bright at the end of the tunnel and Im just getting started. I look forward to logging in to CK or WH and seeing NO MORE COLLECTIONS on my profile. Thank you Edwin DeLeon for the work.

I went between five and four stars, but decided on five because of the in person customer service. I have emailed a few times with responses pretty delayed causing me to have to email a few times. However, when I called on two different occassions, I talked with two specialists almost immediately. They were truly kind, gentle and so attentive! Nothing fake, nothing read from a script. I was so embarrassed that I was in this situation, but they treated me so well on the phone and made me feel comfortable. It did take a bit longer to settle the debt than they had originally said, but it feels SO good to start chipping away at this debt and will so be debt free!!

Do not go with this company. They will extend your program as long as they can and as long as possible so that they can charge you as much fees as they can instead of trying to help fix your credit. 1. Their fee is 21% of the enrolled amount. For example 10K balance, even if they settle it for 80%, their fees is 2,100, so you’re not really saving 20% on the settlement, you’re actually paying 100 more if you just handled it yourself in the first place. Think about if your credit card debt is 100K, their fees alone will be $21,000. On top of the maintenance fee on your account which ends up to be about $25 a month. 2. They don’t start contacting any of your creditors until you have enough funds accumulated, and when they finally make an offer to your creditor, they will take most of it for their fees first. 3. Their Gitmead legal representation doesn’t really do much. A judgment was obtained against me and I didn’t even know about it. The only reason why I found out was because I was contacted by an attorney trying to represent me for a fee. This didn’t just happen once, it happened twice. 4. On one of my account, I called National Debt Relief that my creditor is planning on suing me and if they can prioritize that account. They never contacted that creditor. I ended up getting sued and eventually I had to borrow money from family and friends to take care of it on my own since they didn’t do anything about it. 5. Towards the end of my program, I have enough funds accumulated in my account. I called them on 04/26/21 to pay the remaining balance of my settlement. They told me that it takes 3 days to clear and that I had to pay the following month maintenance fees. On 05/03/21, I called them again to request a payoff, this time I’m told that I need to keep an additional $25 on my account in case the payoff is not approved. My payment schedule is 30th of every month on this account. Bottom line is, if you owe 5 or more credit cards and you go National Debt Relief, you are most likely to get sued, and since they don’t monitor your accounts, one day you’ll wake up that there’s a judgment against you. I originally had 7 accounts enrolled with them. I got sued on 5 of them. I eventually withdrew 4 accounts from National Debt Relief and settled the accounts myself. I was actually able to settle the 4 accounts for less than the settlement that National Debt Relief was able to get from my Creditors. Case and point, I had 2 Discover accounts. They got a settlement on one of the accounts for 40%. I was able to settle the other for 32.50%. On top of their 40% settlement, they charged me 21% of the enrolled amount for their fees. National Debt Relief makes it sound like they’ll be able to save you thousands. In the end, after all their fees, you’ll end up paying more than if you just called your creditors directly. Don’t be scared to pick up the call from collection agencies and creditors, you’re better off dealing with them directly than dealing with them through National Debt Relief.

First, sign up was very easy. Combining credit card debt into one monthly payment made it seem easier to pay it off. So far they have negotiated with two creditors. We are very pleased with the service.

I like the fact the creditor settle the debate from 13’500 to 6145.90 but I have to pay national debt out of that 2800 so yes I saved but in doing so my credit went down and still cost plenty either way so At 600 a month will be done in a little over a year to pay off national debt now 9500 or so roughly Did save some money but was it worth the hassle definitely since the interest rate was so out rages I would of had to pay back way more but at least they got it settled and happy with it.

I use to have to borrow money to pay my bills every other week until I went with NDR. Since then I have enough to cover my bills without getting stressed out. This decision was the best thing I could have done. Thank you NDR.

I was first using Freedom Debt Relief to clean up my credit card cotastefry, but the place never told me I’d be paying them 28% in fees. I received a call from you and it was really great to hear some one tell me what really happens when using you for credit card help. I chose right away to work with you due to the honesty you portrayed in your voice. Honesty is the best policy.

My husband and I have been in a financial struggle after legally defending ourselves. We struggled to pay our attorneys and racked up major credit card debt to protect ourselves and our daughters. Shortly after, the case was dismissed against us but we still had to pay our legal fees. Just over one year later, I was in a car accident. My husband had to miss work to care for me and our twins, after my six surgeries. Then, the pandemic hit. I lost both of my jobs because of the pandemic and my husband's hours were cut. If it weren't for National Debt Relief, my family and I would be facing severe financial hardships. National Debt Relief has made it easier to pay down our bills while easing the majority of the financial stress. Daily, we still deal with financial hardships. However, we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

It takes a lot of patience but I'm getting there. They have resolved nearly 80% of my debt. I will still be making payments for a couple of years but it's very small compared to what it was going to be on my own. There are fees associated with the program but again, they are nothing compared to the entirety of my debt. Program Status: Program Start Date: 12/27/2019 Account Balance: $2,600.33 Enrolled Debt: $28,301.00 Active Debt: $7,970.00 Resolved Debt: $20,331.00 I've had approximately $11,000 of debt written off. The one thing I didn't realize that came as quite a blow, was The amount written off last year was added as income to my taxes so I'm having to pay in a bunch. Still it is less than what was written off. So there are some things I wasn't aware of but that is my fault for not taking the responsibility to know these things. They were not kept a secret.

Faced with a broken back spinal cord injury, although officially retired, I had been managing two beach resorts in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, the pay for which supplemented by Social Security income perfectly, however that life-threatening major, crippling injury precluded ever working again. My credit card balance could no longer be made as my income was slashed greatly. I could not make ends meet or make payments. That;s when National Debt Relief came to my rescue! They found the perfect program for me, all worry and stress were GONE! Finally I could sleep and rest at night with everything National Debt Relief took over and in less than a year, my American Express $8,500 debt was settled, paid and GONE! Folks, honestly if you are completely overrun, weighted down, overwhelmed by debt you never thought you could pay, "NAtIONAL DEBT RELIEF " is the only feasible answer for you! Trust me folks! I'm now a 'Firm Believer'!!!!

T thought the amount taken out of my check each month went tiward my resolution payment. I didn't realize more money would be taken out in addition to monthly payment. Im on a fixed income and i don't have any extra money at all that can go toward resolution. I was going to have to pay 190.00$$ in addition to the 250.00 monthly payment..This is impossible. If i had that kind of money i wouldn't have had to use debt resolution ..thank you Clois Williams
