Verizon Wireless is the largest service provider of wireless telecommunications in the United States with over 150 million subscribers nationwide. In business since 2000, the company was originally a merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE, and over the last several years it has picked up several smaller regional carriers to build the largest wireless network in the United States.

Verizon has a wide variety of products and services to offer customers, including wireless phone service, basic phones, smartphones, tablets, wireless Internet, cloud storage for photos, videos, and other media. Verizon is one of the few companies that allows customers to integrate their Internet devices and cloud media.

Regarding Verizon's quality as a cell phone provider, there are several pros and cons worthy of consideration in addition to the 700+ Verizon reviews below.

In addition, the Verizon store has basic phones (Kyocera, LG, and Sonim brands), certified pre-owned phones, pre-paid phones, and phone accessories like the Apple watch, other wearable tech, HD security cameras, voice-activated wireless speakers, and charging pads.

Plans Offered

Verizon offers a broad variety of plans in order to suit a range of customer needs. Plans include:

  • Unlimited ($35-$60 per line per month with autopay)
  • Shared data plans ($35-$70 per month total for an individual or family)
  • Prepaid plans ($30+ per month)
  • International plans (options for travel, prepaid international services, or talk and text from the U.S.)
  • Connected device plans (for tablets, hotspots, and connected devices)
  • Single device plans (for basic phones requiring only talk and text, or a tablet or hotspot requiring minimal data)
  • Business plans for 5+ lines

Top Features

Verizon's premium plan, the AboveUnlimited plan, you pay $60/line per month plus taxes and fees, but you get several unique perks. Here's what you get:

  • 75 GB data at 4G LTE speeds
  • Unlimited talk and text
  • HD-quality streaming (720p upload speeds)
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot (20 GB at 4G LTE)
  • Verizon Up Rewards
  • Talk, text, and data to Mexico and Canada

The GoUnlimited and BeyondUnlimited include some of the above features, (including some mobile hotspot data, limited-time Apple Music account, unlimited data, unlimited calls, and unlimited texting) but not all.

Smart Family

Verizon has an in-carrier parental control system that works with the Smart Family app, which costs $9.99/month after a 30-day trial. The app has content filters for apps and websites, location tracking, the ability to pause the internet, and contact blocking capabilities. If you don't want the location tracking feature, you only pay $4.99/month.

Deals

The carrier is continually providing promotional discounts for new phones and new customers but also consistently offers exclusive deals to military and veteran-status personnel, first responders (firefighters, police, EMS workers, retirees, and volunteers), and employees.

The Bad

  • Customer Complaints
  • Pricing

Customer Complaints

Customer reviews give insight into some of the challenges customers can face despite the strengths of the provider. Some customers report that they did not like the original phone that they received and had to wait for an extended period of time to get a Verizon credit so that they could move over to a new device.

There are also customers who have experienced long wait times or failure to get their questions answered by tech support. In this case, the popularity of the carrier can be a detriment to the customer service experience.

Pricing

Verizon's reputation as the carrier with the best network coverage comes at a price. Prices for Verizon's unlimited plans start at $35/line per month and cost up to $60/line per month. Other carriers are generally more affordable. However, you usually get what you pay for.

Per Verizon's terms and conditions, if you cancel a line of service after 14 days of signing a contract, you must pay an early termination fee.

The Bottom Line

Verizon offers one of the most complete cell phone service packages available on the market, excellent network coverage, and it has strong overall customer reviews despite the occasional negative feedback.

Customers who decide to go with Verizon as their cell phone provider can expect the following:

  • Extensive phone selection: Verizon has all phones in high demand and offers financing
  • Unlimited talk and text: this is standard with all packages
  • Unique perks: an Apple music account is included with the unlimited plans
  • Easy to expand service: add lines or set up a business account with ease
  • Billing features: customers can text in to inquire about their account usage status for that billing cycle
  • Parental controls: the Smart Family app gives parents phone monitoring tools

I give 4 stars because the actual service is amazing I have yet to find a place I had trouble calling from. The internet is not amazing but I don’t expect lightning fast speeds from 5g. The billing I would give a half star they charge you a lot for service and are not very trustworthy on the promotional stuff they offer. I selected a deal where I add a line and buy an I phone then I get the second one free. My wife had a line already so I dropped my cell carrier and took the deal I got both phones and everything was good then I got the bill and they charged for both phones at $2000+ each. I called and tried to get it straight but they either gave me the run around or flat wouldn’t listen so I was forced to have a huge bill every month while I’m paying for 2 phones when I should have only been paying for the one phone.

Verizon is one of the major cell carriers in the US. You can find their stores almost everywhere. They have a wide variety of plans and devices they will sell you. They have arguably the best cell coverage of any cell carrier and this is particularly true where I live. But... Their customer service is poor. I had billing errors regularly in the almost 20 years I used Verizon. After a while, it gets tiring to call their customer service month after month after month to have them adjust your bill. The people you talk to can't do it; they have to pass it up the line to some unknown supervisor who makes the decision. They tell you you'll be notified, but you aren't, so you have to check yourself and get back to them if there's a problem. It's nice being able to take your phone in to a local office if you don't know how to do something with it or something isn't working right and get help from somebody knowledgeable. The people are all friendly and nice and well trained. They just can't get their billing right.

Good quality service, but when renewing my service with a replacement phone and adding a third phone to my account. I decided to take the UNLIMITED program for service. Guess what it is not unlimited for anything other than talking on the phone. Everything else has caps that are lower than everyone else. And when going into one of their "stores" their excuse is that they can't any phone service, program changes, or anything else because they are just a sales location. You have to go to a "company" store to rectify anything. I returned my phone and changed to T-Mobile. Better programs at cheaper prices and much nicer people. Good buy, good riddance Verizon!

Verizon, what a love-hate relationship that was. I chose Verizon primarily for the same reason everyone else does; Coverage. They do have the best network, but the gap is closing. Recently, I think they’ve recognized that the competition is catching up in terms of coverage and this has forced Verizon to be more competitive in their offerings, which is always good news for the customer. During the time I had Verizon, I also had Metro PCS (which uses T-Mobile’s network. My Metro plan was $25 a month, so it was worth the convenience of having 2 phones). In the beginning, the differences were night and day. My Verizon phone would get service in many more areas than my Metro PCS phone would. But after 2 years, that changed, DRASTICALLY. T-Mobile’s service has improved so much to the point where the differences were negligible (and this was traveling in the Northeast as well as Colorado, New Mexico, Florida and Puerto Rico. In Florida and New Mexico, my MetroPCS service was actually better). Although, the Verizon phone service was still outperforming my MetroPCS overall, the difference in service wasn’t enough to justify the cost. I noticed that the times that the Verizon phone did work where my Metro phone did not, it was mostly on 3G or 1x, so the call quality wasn’t what you’d expect in 2019. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I tried to upgrade my Verizon phone at Best Buy. They were having a deal on iPhones that would’ve saved me $150. There was a restriction or glitch having to do with my Apple Watch being paired to my existing iPhone that prevented me from doing the upgrade at Best Buy. The computer at Best Buy said I had to go to Verizon to do the upgrade. Verizon stores aren’t known for offering good deals on anything, and when they do, there’s always the catch that the discount is applied over the course of 2 years instead of at the point of sale. This was a problem for me because I normally pay off my phones in the first 2-3 months so I don’t have to pay for the phone AND my service. It’s easier for me to just bite the bullet and pay for the entire phone asap and pay a much smaller phone bill moving forward. I also didn’t like the fact that when you get a phone at Verizon, whatever you pay towards the cost of the phone needs to be paid up front or you have to pay for the entire thing in one lump sum. For example, I got an iPhone XS Max at Verizon in October. Total price was approximately $1,250. I put down $800 at the onset which reduced my balance on the phone. But Verizon wouldn’t accept partial payments on the phone beyond the minimum amount unless I was paying the whole thing off. I planned to pay it off in $150 installments every month until the remainder was paid, but since they wouldn’t accept that, I had to pay them the remaining $450 in one lump sum. It’s all a ploy to keep you on the hook and that’s what I didn’t like. Besides that, the international rates are ridiculous and the data throttling limits are too low (22GB vs 35GB with MetroPCS and 50GB with T-Mobile). I can see why Verizon got away with this back in the day. Back then, they were the only game in town in many regions. That’s no longer the case and that’s why I left. They need to ease up with the restrictive policies.

I've been with Verizon for what seems like forever, primarily because their coverage is the best. Rarely ever have a dropped call or problems connecting over their network along the entire eastern seaboard. My only complaint is that in the past they didn't give rollover minutes and their plans were very expensive compared to other companies. Recently they started offering their Edge program with unlimited texts and unlimited messages for roughly the same pricing so they are learning how to keep customers happy. Don't like that the loyalty program has basically disappeared. You used to receive a large credit towards the purchase of a new phone every two years. They will still give you a credit but now they have added a fee when you activate a new phone which offsets the credit. They also have stopped giving corporate discounts to all accessories. I bought a mophie case for $75 with my discount for my Samsung III but when I went to buy the case for my Samsung IV I had to pay the full price of $100. They can nickel and dime you on certain things. I was very disappointed in the fact that I was paying about $8 a month for insurance on my Samsung III and when it died after about two years (so I paid almost $200 for insurance over that time) I was told the insurance was with a third party and I had a $100 deductible (making my ultimate cost for a refurb replacement $300). Was not happy at all and find this very deceptive. Ended up having to buy the new Samsung V for about $250 which the edge plan lets you pay for over 24 months.

I have had Verizon service for years. I have always enjoyed the national and regional coverage I have access to. However, their international travel plan choices are so much more expensive than other companies like T-Mobile! That is very disappointing as I travel annually at least and use my phone for my business. But since I recently got a new phone under contract I will be continuing to be a Verizon customer.

I have used Verizon before it became Verizon, so for about 25 years. Although their phone plans are expensive, they seem to be the most reliable carrier there is. I have lived in the mountains and deserts. and they are usually the most reliable carrier. They have great customer service and you can always talk to a live rep with very little waiting. I main complaint is that they have great offers to new customers, but offer no incentives to existing customers

I've had all of the providers - Verizon has the best coverage. They know it and charge accordingly. Having said that, they are pretty good when you call in and try to resolve issues. They are also pretty responsive although many times I have been told to expect a call back and never got it. They have also had billing snafus - not sure why as this seems to be an industry problem, but every carrier seems to have crazy billing processes that end up working out in the end, but are very confusing and cause headaches.

Customer Service at Verizon is top notch...Quick to respond to any issue Ive contacted them about Although I have very rarely ever had any issues with this company at all. They have great coverage...little to none if any dropped calls...Never had an issue with connection. Took a vacation went several hundred miles from home , Never had a minutes trouble or interruption in Service! They are a bit higher in price Though they do offer service plans to fit about any budget. For Quality Service...and Quick Response Time, and Great Customer Care.. Its Definately Worth Paying For!!

Verizon is one of the companies that reaches nearly everywhere. If Verizon can't give you service, you know no other company can. Just walk a few places and surely service will be obtained. The phones are conveniently put on a monthly fee called Edge Program. No contracts any longer, just buy a phenom of a phone and be reassured you're in safe hands.

My favorite part about my phone plan besides the great coverage it has in my area, but the hot spot I can turn on when I'm in the car and my kids can use their Wi-Fi electronics on the go! Also I love how employ's will go above and beyond to help when I've had an issue with my phone. The price I pay a month is a good price its about the average price other cell service offer.

Currently have Verizon as a phone carrier. They are great, a little pricier, but good coverage. If you go anywhere outside the US they will get you with their outrageous fees ($10 bucks a day to use cell service). My sister has a different carrier and foreign travel is included in her phone bill and the bill is still significantly less than mine.

I have had verizon 18 yrs I'm moving out of my family plan. Verizon is all I know I see much cheaper plans but I cant afford to drop a call when on the phone with a customer I don't want to leave Verizon but I need a 2 line plan but everything is 3 or more lines. I love Verizon and scared to try somewhere else seriously does t-mobile come close to Verizon. There customer service is rude when I had to deal with them Only thing that needs work on I gave 2 stars for customer service but not showing it only my 4 star over all smh

I've used Verizon for 10+ years. Their service availability is top notch. I've been in some fairly remote places camping and able to find service when no one else could. I also like their new verizon up rewards where I can use credits towards small rewards. I haven't dealt too much with the customer service side of things, so can't comment on how good/bad that is.

I get pretty good cell service everywhere I go. I really like that. I have the all you can use and anytime internet service and anytime minutes as much as you need on a family share plan. So I have my family of four on the plan. But the internet slows down for us after the first week. So even though we can 'use all the data we want '. Verizon slows it down and it's not really all we want. My bill each month is very high around $400 a month but I am paying on some equipment to. So mixed feelings.

We have had good service with Verizon. We used a competitor for almost 20 years but when we moved to the rural south, they just did not have good coverage. We switched to Verizon and we've been happy. There are still plenty of areas where coverage is spotty in rural areas, but it's much better than our previous service. Verizon seems to have excellent customer service and the people who work in their stores are knowledgable.

In my office we have employees with T Mobile, ATT and 2 people with Verizon. I am one of the Verizon users because I travel and it has good coverage. However in the last 6 months I have received rob calls every day. They began with numbers that were similar to mine. I dutifully blocked each one daily. Now the calls are from all over the country and the leave messages in Chinese. We polled we discovered that the only people in our office who get these calls are Verizon users. Verizon does ‘sell’ an app to filter......

I like their expansive coverage areas; I get calls when people with other providers do not. I understand that "you get what you pay for", but their charges & fees are excessive! My experiences are usually pleasant when in the stores and I believe they have quality people working for them, but they need someone within the company that can make some cuts so that the charges aren't so high. At the very least, they can offer some type of discount for families like mine who have 6 devices on the account for over 10 years.

It's the only cell service in my area and I rarely have issues. Now the bad news, their solution to regulating your childs data usage is to cancel the phone service for 90 days. Even better, canceling for 90 days doesn't prevent your child from using his phone via a wifi connection. Their backup solution to that is to take your childs phone and install an app that allows you to monitor and regulate their data. Really?

We have used Verizon for the past few years as our cell provider. We originally chose them because the price was the best for what we were needing. They had a great deal for switching over to use them that we were able to take advantage of and basically get a new phone. Their coverage is great. We have found very few spots where we don't have service (generally when we are out camping or hiking). Every time I have called in needing help they have been very helpful and kind. I would recommend them if you are looking for a reliable service.

I was with Verizon for 20-plus years absolutely love them their customer service was wonderful the people were very helpful. But I had to change carriers because the prices just kept going up and up and I could not afford to pay the phone bill anymore. And I thought being a loyal customer for so long that I could get some kind of a better deal but that's not how it worked so I ultimately had to go to a different company but was sad that I had to do so

Verizon has had great coverage and we've rarely had a reason to complain. Their office always has nice people to work with when something goes wrong with my phone. One time my husbands screen went purple and we didn't have insurance. The team member helped us get put on insurance right then because they happened to be under open enrollment and the phone was replaced.

I've been with Verizon for over 10 years now and they always have the best service available. A lot of other companies I've dealt with doesn't get service in my hometown so when I go back to visit, I don't want to have to deal with where I can get service. It's 2016, there should be service everywhere. The problem I have with them is that they are really expensive. I pay about $140 for two lines of service. I think that's a little crazy and they've tried to help me lower my bill which is nice but I still think it's pricey.

Their customer service is efficient and when you call for help, they typically route you to a local branch. This means you will not have to deal with foreign call centers and issue with lack of internet resources on the other end. Additionally, many functions for billing and parental controls are available in-app. My only critique here is that the security measures can be a bit of a pain if you have a family plan and some members are temporarily or long-term located away from whoever started the account. There is limited access for other members of the family plan and this can complicate things like changing your part of the plan, a device, or running an upgrade. Aside from that, I have had only positive experiences with Verizon!

The reception where I live is great, but we are currently in another state and the reception is horrible. Usually, 0-1 bar on a good day & forget anything once you go in a building. The first time I spoke with customer service, the agent was very understanding & opened a ticket for the Technical Engineer Dept to check into the issue. After I responded to a general text asking where I was having reception issues, the ticket was closed without any response from the company regarding the resolution. I called a 2nd time & again, the agent was very helpful & understanding. He could not find the original ticket & opened a new one. He also searched for a nearby 4G Verizon tower & found that there was one about 5 miles away. We are in an area that is mostly small towns of about 1-5k people, and only 30 miles from 2 major cities. With those demographics, one would think the reception would be better. A couple of days later I received a message from Verizon with a generic video answer attached, basically stating that they could not do anything to boost the signal in this area & perhaps I should buy a wifi booster (how does that help me outside or anyplace that is not by the booster?). Was nice to talk to a live agent, but that was the end of the human contact. Too bad! Too bad we're stuck with Verizon until our phones are paid off, or I'd switch companies now that had humans responding and actually tried to resolve the issue.

We have been customers if Verizon for quite some time now after trying several other competitors. Our main reason for switching to Verizon was for coverage . My family resides in a rural area of our state and with the previous companies I never had service when I visited there. Verizon not only has provided good reliable service but when we travel with family who has other cell service, we often times are the only ones with coverage in some remote areas such as mountains, deserts, and rural areas. That alone is a reason to be loyal to them. Their price is a bit more than other companies but as the saying goes, “You get what you pay for!” Their customer service has been cooperative and friendly.

We have been a VERIZON family since day 1. That's a big deal. We love the coverage and the service. We love the family plan. We love that they are trying to stay current with updates and service. We have a big family, and at 1 time we had 2 plans just to cover everyone (only 5 allowed on 1 plan - and with 9 kids in the family - well you get it). Now, all of us that are still in the area and still on the family plan, can be on the same plan. Family group chats are hilarious, staying connected is important, and we can do that with VERIZON. For work, play, vacation, travel, service, and security - VERIZON is the way to go.

I believe that Verizon on a whole are very expensive. They charge for every single thing. They keep reprogramming their On Demand and many things that were free are now being charged for. Great service and coverage. Military discounts! Jet pack provides excellent internet! They work hard to help their customers with accurate and rapid response. I have had Verizon for over 20 years and used them from SC beach to Oahu, HI.

Verizon is solid as far as service goes. Their sales practices are bad and I don't like dealing with them as they're only engaged in making money and not customer services. But at least my calls don't drop like my friend with Sprint.

Verizon's service is very good. I have reception without interruption pretty much everywhere I go (throughout the US) and it is clear. I believe their pricing is competitive, but also feel that ALL mobile carriers overcharge customers. This puts the customer in the position of having to bargain for rates, which should be unnecessary.

They're coverage is great. The customer service (call center) is great. To imorove- in the store the sales people are equipped to do only that. They cannot or do not help with technical issues or anything like that. And the "Verizon Authorized Dealers" are a complete waste of time. The corporate stores are good. They also sell good products.

They could improve by giving everyone the same bargain price. I have several times called to complain about pricing and they have "opportunities" they haven't bothered to tell me and are able to reduce the price. They do have great coverage in many areas of the country, which is why I use them

I have been with many different phone companies and Verizon has been my favorite so far. Even though it is a little more money than others I am able to get service everywhere I go and I got to upgrade to the newest phone. I love the plan I am on and love the people that work there as well. Super helpful and friendly.
