STAY FAR AWAY! Absolutely the worst! We bought the premium plan. We never filed one claim in two years. Our water heater went after 18 years, they made us wait 2 weeks for their service worker to come out. 2 weeks of no hot water. After that, they denied to fix, pay or replaced. No reason given! Also, you would stay on the phone over an hour to get through. SAVE your money and aggravation and go with another company.

Hello Joey DeSana,
First American thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We are always looking for ways to better our service and your feedback is an invaluable part of the process. At this time, our records indicate that on July 14, 2023, you placed a claim for your water heater not heating water. We dispatched independent contractor AZ Remodeling and Plumbing Inc reported the water heater was leaking and unrepairable. Additionally, AZ Remodeling and Plumbing Inc advised that the water heater did not have double wall venting and excessive heat caused the leak, which is not covered. As such, your claim was denied. You may refer to your warranty contract section, Limits of Liability, Number Three.
On July 19, 2023, you provided First American with an outside contractor’s diagnosis for review to dispute the denial. After further review, First American attempted to dispatch another contractor to diagnose the failure but was unsuccessful.
On August 7, 2023, First American authorized you to locate and hire a licensed and bonded contractor as First American was unable to locate a contractor to complete the necessary repairs in a timely manner for you. You may refer to the home warranty contract, under Customer Service, Number Three. On this same day through August 14, 2023, we attempted to contact your outside contractor to review their diagnostic but were unsuccessful.
On September 5, 2023, First American contacted you and were advised that the work had been completed with your outside contractor. First American requests you provide a copy of your contractor’s diagnosis and invoice for review of coverage. First American considers this claim pending.

HVAC issue, am still waiting to have resolved. Initially had a local HVAC service tech evaluate and said it would be fixed in a few days since it was the weekend. I've been waiting over a week now since they had to have their service person verify. It's been hot here in Florida and they don't seem to care, either their service personnel or them as a company. It's terrible how they treat their customers, make you suffer, suspect they want you to fix it yourself out of frustration. Terrible company.

Hello John, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim. Our records indicate you placed a claim on June 9, 2023, for your air conditioning system not working properly. We dispatched independent contractor, Bring The Cool, who reported to find a leak in the evaporative coil; the technician recommended replacing the evaporative coil to repair the failure. On June 22, 2023, Bring The Cool advised us that additional information would be reported to us regarding the recommended repairs to your system to be reviewed for coverage. On this same day, we contacted you directly to advise of this update. Further, we authorized $150.00 towards temporary relief for the purchase of either a portable air conditioner or evaporative cooler in the interim while your claim is being resolved. We will be continuing to monitor the status of your claim until repairs are successfully completed. As such, we consider this claim pending.

It is not easy wanting to speak with a customer service rep. Do you even have one? The process of getting an order placed is pretty easy. Although when you need to explain a problem, there is no one to speak to.

My recent experience was one of the worst I've had with any company. It took over 10-days to get a simple fix on my refrigerator costing me hundred's in ruined food. The customer service team continually fabricated dates and facts and never returned a phone call. If I had not reached out on a daily basis, I would still be awaiting repairs. You should be ashamed of yourselves...

If you are looking for a warranty company stay away from First American. Every time I have a problem the contractor comes to my home and reports the problems with the failed item need parts that are not covered or they say it’s now code and you have to pay extra to have the item fixed. I have had to call my own contractor and pay to fix the real problem. I also pay extra for complete coverage by paying for the first class upgrade. Do not do business with this company.

A spring broke on my garage bar and First American is refusing to cover the cost. With the spring breaking it locked up and does not allow the garage door to open. First American said they were denying my claim because the door will not open, Of course it will not open because the spring that is covered in my plan no longer works. This company is a scam.

Brian, Thank you for your review. According to our records, you placed a claim on November 21, 2022, for your garage door opener not functioning properly. We dispatched an independent contractor, #1 Garage Door, who reported the door is off track and out of balance, the cables and drums are damaged, and the rollers and bearings are locked up. As a result, the motor is not opening the door. Due to non-covered items under your contract, your claim was denied. Please refer to the Garage Door Opener section of your contract, which lists doors and adjustments as not covered.

Hello John. First American apologizes for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim. According to our records, you placed a claim on November 4, 2022, for your water heater not working properly. First American dispatched Jefferson Plumbing, LLC, who reported the wiring and elements burnt and recommended replacement. A replacement was ordered with an estimated installation date for November 23, 2022.

On November 18, 2022, you informed First American you had already replaced the water heater and requested a cash payment in lieu of water heater replacement. First American Home will do anything they can to make sure they don't help you. The only contractor available currently has 1-star reviews on BBB, Yelp and other trusted sites. When we brought in a third-party contractor to review the AC unit they recommended a replacement for the safety of the home. First American said they will not replace until it is inoperable even though there are major issues. Will definitely be looking into other companies once my contract is up in one month.

I filed a claim to repair my built-in microwave on 7/27/2022. The problem has not been taken care of as of this date (9/8/2022). The first assigned technician's assessment was the unit couldn't be repaired &needed to be replaced. FAHW finally assigned a 2nd technician who was suppose to inspect and give a 2nd opinion today(9/8/22). The appointment was postponed again to 9/14/22. Very difficult (holding time is more t 30 min or longer) to get to talk with a real person at FAHW. Phone recording said to call me back by the next business day but never did.

Hello Grace,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We are always looking for ways to better our service and your feedback is an invaluable part of the process. At this time, our records indicate that contractor Nana Technologies recommended replacing the safety thermostat switch and fuse to your microwave. First American authorized the repair. Nana Technologies reported to First American they attempted to schedule an appointment to complete the repair without success. On August 26, 2022, First American dispatched independent contractor Peninsula Appliance Repair LLC (Peninsula Appliance), who scheduled an appointment with you for September 23, 2022. Peninsula Appliance will submit their diagnosis and recommendation to First American for review. First American will contact you directly with an update regarding your claim.

This is the most incompetent warranty company. Every time I’ve had an issue it takes at least a week for a contractor to come, and there have been multiple times that they’ve scheduled the wrong contractors. It’s not uncommon for me to wait almost a month to get my AC repaired in the Texas heat. This has already happened to me 4 times. You’ll have to call to get ANY movement on a request. Usually I have to call them at least 6 times a week to get anything done, and each call takes at least an hour since their representatives are always busy. Save yourself a waste of time and money.

After a year and multiple service calls, my AC still hasn’t been fixed. Tired of dealing with them - it’s not worth it. Save your money instead and don’t purchase this warranty. At the end of the day, it’s better to spend money on a competent contractor than paying First American $600/year + $85/service call and getting nothing fixed - they basically steal your money.

This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. When you call them after an hr of being on hold they are extremely rude. My wife called in the winter to get our ac fixed before summer hit, they sent a "tech" out in the winter just for the guy to say its to cold to diagnose your ac call back during the summer. The tech then lied and put in the paperwork that he cleaned my coils. I tried to dispute this but this trashy company is intent on charging me 75 bucks for this. They are scum.

Very bad service that I have ever know, as well as their sub contractor Safewire Inc did not do any thing when sending their technician to my home. He just looked around 30 minutes then get out. I ordered their service and waited for 1 week to fix my door wiring bell and the plug. The very simple thing but they could not do it, how can they fix a bigger thing? Hello Nick. First American apologizes for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. According to our records, you placed a claim on May 19, 2022, for your doorbell and one plug not working properly. First American dispatched Safewire Inc, who reported the doorbell not working due to wire damage from rodents as well as the outlet having a lack of capacity due to not being grounded. These findings fall outside of the home warranty coverage, resulting in a denial due to not normal wear and tear and lack of capacity. Per your request, second opinion contractor M K Electrical Services Incorporated has been dispatched to confirm the diagnosis. Frist American considers this claim pending.

Used to be a great company but absolutely awful these days. To actually speak to a representative takes forever including dealing with an automated system that doesn't understand anything. Please do not purchase a home warranty with First American. The heating and air contractors they use are extremely unprofessional the ones we have interacted with all have 'one star' google review ratings. I had two furnaces that broke at the same time and because they use horrible vendors we did not have anyone to check on our furnace for more than three weeks. We ended up having to purchase a new furnace because we could not do without heat and could not wait on the warranty company's vendors.

Paid extra for the AC coverage. First of all they give you a 4 hour time the contractor will arrive. They don’t do weekends So you have to take off work. Then they had to come out four times!!! Twice they didn’t do anything!!! So I missed four days of work to meet with their contractors (sears by the way) not a local AC company. They will repair repair repair, you will not get them to replace the unit like they say they will when they sell you the warranty. I had my own independent contractor come out and he said the unit needed to be replaced

Hello Joshua. Our records indicate you placed a claim on May 30, 2021 for your clothes dryer not heating up. First American dispatched an independent contractor, Sears, to diagnose the failure. The contractor reported a part was ordered and will return to complete repairs.

AC units not working had to wait 1 week for scheduled appointment and was cancelled day of without knowledge due to overbooking tech, rescheduled for 1 week and same thing happened again. Was rescheduled again and no help from First American Warranty. 4 weeks with AC units not working. Unable to speak with management or get satisfaction. Automated system with reps that are no help with resolutions. Sears is their vendor and unable to speak to a person.

They are really terrible. I had the AC go out on my condo and they kept scheduling it out to contractors who don’t even work on the building. Each mistake would cause an additional day of no AC delay. I finally had to find my own company yet it still took First American an additional 2 days to approve. I talked to 8 different people and spent 10 hours on the phone. My advice is use another warranty company,

This company is horrible. They take their time to fix anything and then try to rip you off with swapping a $2500 dryer for a $750 one. No way, it's only 1.5 years old! On top of that they never completely repaired our fridge. The company that came out to fix it stated that it needs to be replaced, First American closed the claim. After many calls nothing happened. Stay away!

Hello Victor. Our records indicate you placed a claim on March 9, 2021 for your clothes dryer which does not stop spinning, even when turned off. First American dispatched an independent contractor, Arizona’s Heating and Cooling Doctor LLC, to diagnose the failure. The contractor reported the control board and two relays have burned out and recommended replacement of the parts. First American attempted to locate the parts, however, the parts are no longer available.

On April 6, 2021, First American offered a replacement dryer as the parts for repair are not available. Per your home warranty contract, First American will replace with equipment of similar features, capacity and efficiency however does not match brand, color or dimensions. You declined the replacement offer and requested a cash payment. Per the home warranty contract, First American may offer a cash payment in lieu of repair or replacement at the company’s negotiated rates with suppliers which may be less than retail.

On April 9, 2021, you accepted the cash payment in lieu of replacement. Please allow 7-10 business days for the processing and delivery of the check.

Please be advised, First American considers your claim closed. Thank you.

having to wait 2 weeks for an A/C company in the hottest part of summer in Florida is unacceptable. Having to wait a week for a new refrigerator part to come in is not acceptable. No refrigerator for a household of 6 for a week! Parts should be no more than a day or two away.

After a cost of over $600 for the home Warranty and paying a $75 service fee, two weeks later they tell me they are not covering what the contractor has told them needs to be done to have the washing machine working properly since water backs up trough the drain tube into my laundry room floor. Why do i need a Home Warranty if they charge me a service fee and a high year fee and still don't fix the problem? Don't get caught in this scam. Guess that's why they need to advertise themselves all the time making promises and offers they do not cover.

Is negative a option? This is the worst company with the worst service. My oven has been broken for 5 months. I have spent hours on hold on phone they never call back they hire useless technicians. Its a complete rip off. Check consumer affairs they have countless complaints against them. They even have a face book page dedicated to the fact that they are a rip off... terrible customer service, they dont follow through with there contract that says they will replace the appliance if unable to repair

I just cancelled the service. Had a pipe break and was told it would not be covered as it was due to freezing. Also when they have replaced any broken items the replace with the cheapest bottom of the line brands that soon break again. Will just bank the $58 per month I was paying them and cover the repairs myself from the savings. Don't buy this warranty.

Hi TexasJoe. Our contract provides coverage of system and appliances that fail through normal wear and tear. Pipes due to freeze are not covered. You may refer to your home warranty contract for the items listed as covered. Thank you.

First American is very good at making the sale and promising that it will pay for claims. BUT, once you make a claim forget about it. 1. First American will deny the claim. 2. You can never talk to anyone. 3. First American unscrupulous and crooked contractors Do yourself a favor and use another home warranty company. Why pay to be aggravated?

have a leaking faucet in the kitchen paid my $75 to first American Home Warranty. Plumber comes out and tells me I need a new faucet which I already knew, I had to come out of pocket to purchase a new faucet. First American Home Warranty tells me they'll only give me a low quality faucet for replacement. This is a rip-off my $75 is only good for the plumbing charge to show up. When my home warranty is up I'll be going to a different company.

I am disappointed with the service provided by this company. They do not vet their companies, I was assigned four companies before someone came out to look at an electrical problem which could have caused a fire. My claim was denied even though I sent a finding by a reputable Phoenix highlighting my problem. I would not recommend First American to anyone.

Hello Gwenetta,

We would like to apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your electrical claim. Please be advised, we contacted your electrician who recommended replacing the breakers due to age. However, they confirmed there were no failures with the breakers in your home. As such, First American did not authorize a replacement because there was no existing failure. At this time, your claim is considered closed.

Thank you.

I have been dealing with a claims issue for weeks. The staff are extremely rude, rarely answer or return calls or messages, come up with new excuses not to cover at every turn, outright lie, and overall provide egregious and borderline fraudulent customer service. Their technicians will make the laziest & conveniently not-covered 'diagnoses' which means you have to call them back repeatedly (charging you $75 a pop) and end up having to pay out of pocket for a third party you trust anyway. Can you give 0 stars? Stay away!!

I'm a retired plumber. I was requested to look at a residents plumbing problem which I repaired in 10 minutes. The plumbing company representative part of " AMERICAN HOME WARRANTY" charged $125 and claims he could not due the repair because of mold in the bathroom. So for $125 the poor woman got no service from her home warranty company. I did the repair in 10 minutes I used a Phillips screwdriver and a 8" pair of channel lock pliers. Total cost. My charge. $40. What is wrong with this picture???

Almost a month after placing a service request and the issue has not been resolved. Endless promises from FAHW on a timeline have all been lies. The contractor they chose does not answer the phone, does not call back from voicemails left, does not respond to text, and does not answer emails. Out of six representatives, only one actually sounded like they wanted to help. A manager stated he would make some calls and get back to me within two hours. Five hours later I call back and nobody has any idea what I'm talking about. Choose another warranty company.

Rose ,

Do your research. Find out how these companies are fraudulent and scam the customer by providing subpar or no service. I’m months in for 2 claims that still remain unfixed and unresolved. They provide fake numbers for nonexistent Reps assigned to your claim and do not follow upon anything. Don’t expect any movement on an AC claim in the middle of summer. Protect your family and home from this false sense of security. Nothing here but smoke and mirrors.

They hire contractors who charge more than the market rate for plumbing or electrical services for out of pocket costs. And most so called "covered items" have out of pocket costs. So I ended up having to pay the $75 service call fee and find my own contractors for AC, water heater, plumbing, etc. It is better not using them at all. In addition, when I want cash out option, they put me on hold for over an hour, then came back on the phone to tell me that to replace the water heater, the cash out is only about $200, which is not enough to cover half of the cost of the water heater!

We have had First American Home Warranty for over 8 years. Until now, I was happy. Currently our AC has been broke for 2 weeks. The contractor is blaming First American. First American has LIED to me repeatedly. They have told me the parts were ordered and expected delivery that day. Then 5 days later they tell me the same thing! This is unacceptable. My husband has a heart condition and we cannot keep going without AC in August!!! I can't get a manager to call me. Everyone i talk to has lied. I need help and don't know what to do!!!!
