We started with them when we bought our house in 2019. They were very good for the first four years. While the annual fee is not insubstantial, the coverage of appliances and systems was good. They gave good reminders for tune-ups of systems to avoid major issues. We liked them very much. But our house was recently part of the fires in Southern California and the AC system was damaged. They refused coverage after the tech they provided (whose company wanted over $1000 for the job) said that a wire was cut due to rodent issues rather than due to the fire and remediation. That decision seemed to be wholly about money, and the customer service person had no recommendations other than me paying for a second tech to visit and give a second opinion. No understanding of the fire; no consideration that the tech may have been increasing the price and offering to pay for a second opinion; just reliance on their contractor and a contract term to deny coverage. It soured me on the relationship and I don't think we'll be using them in the future or extending them for this home.

I had a service call for my AC unit. They send out starlight hvac to fix it. The tech came over an supposibly did and also said that I was low on coolant so I end up paying close to 300.00 cause American Home Shield only pays 10.00 per pound. So when the tech left about 30 to 45 min the AC stopped working again with the same issue. The fan on the condenser frozen so I call starlight back and the same tech came over, looked from the top of the condenser to get a model number of the motor and told me that they needed to order a new motor. About 3 to 5 days later the same tech came over to install it, once he was done I noticed that he had left a total of 5 cables connected by zip ties on top of the condenser ( outside). When I approached him and mentioned this he said that the motor was out of factory and that the cables were too sort to connect inside and that they were no danger. Yet this are electrical cables 2 yellow and 2 purple and at the end they are wrapped up on black electrical tape. The other cable is the ground cable but he still insisted that they were no danger. I called American Home Shield and formed this to them. They said they were gonna do an investigation and get back to me. They never did so. I called him back and I spoke to a supervisor. The supervisor said that the company said that cables were fine. Earlier when I reported this, they got a hold of the company and they refused to come back so when I spoke to the supervisor, the supervisor said that the only thing that they can do have the same company come back and try to address the issue so when I request it for a different company because these guys never wanted to come back, the supervisor told me that I needed to pay another service fee to have another company, and inspected so American Home Shield was not willing to help me correct this the right way so they end up sending the same company Starlight Hvac to look at it and all they did was put the two yellow the two purple inside the unit zip tie in the same place and let the grounding cable all out of the unit

During most of my recent repairs, I now realize you must call for a service visit and wait until the company calls you to set up an appointment which is usually another 2 to 3 days. A technician comes out, addresses the problem and then says they have to go back and get it approved and that’s another day and then the company calls you back to make an appointment which is usually another 3 to 4 days. The process is much too long. The technician should have the authority to get approval on the spot. The last technician that was at my house, said he did have the part in his truck to fix my air conditioner, but could not do it until he went back and filed paperwork and got approval through home shield to come back out to fix it which was about five days later. That was two half days off work for me. I probably will not sign up with home shield again. This is twice this has happened once with the refrigerator. I went almost 6 days with no refrigerator. The second time it was the air conditioner pretty important things.

I’m so upset over 2 months ago I put in a ticket for my stove, refrigerator and microwave. It took forever for me to get my stove and refrigerator fixed and I’ve never received anything for my microwave. This is the worst to pay for services and get treated like this.

If I could give this company negative stars I would -- it honestly feels like i've been scammed. I've been paying AHS for 2 years without incident, yet of course, when the time comes, there is an excuse as to why they cant be helpful, and nobody really seems to care. I have been living (in the winter months) without hot water for almost 3 weeks now, despite a water heater replacement being one of the things that the Company clearly outlines as a covered service. Once you pay the required service fee, you are assigned one of the AHS partner companies to come assess and complete the repairs. Well, of course, AHS chooses partners who complete the work for the cheapest because they are illegitimate. My "partner" company doesnt have a valid website, and the phone number goes to a cell phone. The repair man told me he would come on the monday after my heater broke, he didnt show up until wednesday: strike 1. Then, on wednesday, he showed up (2 hours past the rescheduled time he texted to say he would arrive), spent 15 minutes in my home, and told me my water heater was broken and that i would need a brand new one. Cool? No. For some reason, after that, he never sent AHS the assessment, and has ghosted both me and AHS since (for almost 2 full weeks now). AHS is saying there is nothing they can do since they assigned the work to him in their system, and that I just need to wait until we can reach him for his assessment. So basically I'm playing a waiting game, in December, without anything but ice cold water in my home. They made sure to process my monthly fee as I've been waiting, though. Absolutely awful, i wouldnt recommend them if they were the last warranty provider on earth.

All we get is the runaround. Washer never got fixed from March work order and we are still trying to get our AC fixed that’s been out for about 2 months now. Out of all the vendors they have sent out only ONE was decent. The rest seem to “bandage” a lot, or at least the vendors say AHS tells them to and don’t really fix or replace anything. Would not recommend!

If the was a zero I give it. Hell NO I would not recommend AHS to no one! A company who sent a contract that after 30 days it disappears. They collect money every month and before you can speak to anyone about your issue you have to pay $125. So afters years of paying they still don't fit your issue or you're still asked to pay hundreds of dollars to fix your own issue! Again Hell NO please do NOT waste your money on AHS. It took almost an hour to cancel and there's a $50 fee to cancel the contract!!! BS

Good with any Breakdown issue...UNLESS ITS PLUMBING.. American Home Shield Purchases its OWN Hot Water Heaters that Must be Used if your Hot Water Heater Breaks down and you must Wait until the Vendor receives it to Proceed Even if it means 3 weeks without Hot Water....Uses Sub -Par Plumbing Vendors and their findings can not be Challenged Even Though Their Wrong OR if you Refuse to Pay an Exorbitant amount of Money to Quote Bring it to Code.. HOW can you Bring It To Code without a City Or County Inspection. What A Sham. The Guy didnt even Inspect the Water Diverter Valve and said that its out of Warranty because he Thinks a Brass Valve has issues because the hous has Galvanized Pipes....Never even Turned the Valve.. I wound up purchasing and Installing my Own Diverter valve and Guess What My Shower Now Works.... AMERICAN HOME SHIELD has no one Checkng its Vendors And They are Ruthless.. Dont want to Pay the Exorbitant Fees Then Go Cash in Lieu.... Wait for it Cash in Lieu only pays for the Labor to do the Job Not the Hot Water Heater Thats Right You dont get the Hot Water Heater that thy Own and setting in Their Warehouse somewhere. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY..Ever since they were Bought out by a larger Company a couple years ago they were a Class Act. I was a Loyal Customer for 7 Years. This company is a joke. Complete garbage service. I have been a member for 6 years in my current home and for years prior to that in a different home. We have literally paid them multiple thousands of dollars. Our furnace went out and so far, we have been getting the runaround for over a month (while the cold weather is setting in at night). The issue is the expense of the parts required to fix the furnace. They don’t want to pay it. You will only be able to speak to a customer service representative or the escalation department. Both just make excuses and nothing gets done. You will never speak to the authorization department or a manager. They shield them from all of this. I cannot tell you how many hours I’ve spent on the phone with them but I can tell you that they are a complete nightmare to work with. Buyer beware!!

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my outrage and disgust at the shameful way American Home Shield has treated both myself and your customer. I was called to complete a plumbing repair after the company you sent out flatly refused to complete the service. They took your customer's money without hesitation, only to leave them with unfinished work and water damage—a situation that has now left them broke and living in a home that’s still in disrepair. What’s even more appalling is that after taking the customer’s money for a service you agreed to, you have now refused to fund the necessary repairs. This is unconscionable. How can you sleep at night knowing that your company is deliberately taking people’s money and then refusing to honor the contract by denying any reasonable accommodations or service? You have left an individual who trusted you in a damaged home, with water damage worsening by the day, and with no recourse to fix it. Let me be very clear: this is not just poor customer service. This is fraud. You are knowingly allowing your customers to be taken advantage of and leaving them in a vulnerable position, all for the sake of squeezing out every last dime. You clearly have no concern for the people who rely on your services—people who trusted you to provide basic, essential repairs. Instead, you’re just adding insult to injury, refusing to provide the help you promised, and leaving customers in financial ruin. I am demanding a full explanation of how you plan to rectify this situation immediately. How do you justify continuing to operate under these circumstances, knowing full well that your company is perpetuating deliberate negligence and exploitation? If this is how you choose to conduct business, then you have absolutely no right to be in this industry. Your company’s behavior is disgraceful, and it’s time you take responsibility for the misery you’ve caused. If there’s any shred of integrity left in your organization, you will correct this immediately and ensure that the customer gets the service they paid for, with no more delays or excuses. I look forward to your immediate response. It’s time you own up to your actions and stop taking advantage of those who depend on your company.

There were repeated delays by A1 Plumbing, over several weeks. Over this entire time, we had water continuously dripping. Our water bills have tripled. They finally replaced a faucet in the bathroom which does NOT match the other sink faucet. They said they couldn't find one that matched so they would not replace. The difference between the 2 faucets is extreme and look ridiculous since they are a pair. A1 Plumbing repeatedly dropped the ball and we had to contact American Home Shield each time. They would tell us they were doing something and then not folloup.

The timing of this request for a review is unfortunate. When you have a quick turnaround for an easy repair (like a leaking faucet or a garage spring) the process works well and your repair goes smoothly. Currently we have been without a working refrigerator since 12/30. For 4.5 weeks and still unresolved we’ve had the assigned technician out probably 8 times to “repair”. Each time it works for a day, the repair fails and then goes out again. Then the process has to start all over. We wait for the technician to come out (again) to find the next problem, then wait for AHS for the estimate, then we wait for a part. This has caused so much stress to our family with 3 kids. We’ve now been waiting for a part going on 8 days now. Any update from AHS? NOPE! Would I recommend AHS? Probably not. What if this was our furnace in the middle of the Midwest winter? AHS seems not to even care how they treat their customers or how this impacts people. It’s very frustrating dealing with AHS when you need to and something really goes wrong.

I have been with AHS for over 20 years. This may be my last year with them. I have always referred people to AHS. For the last few years, they seem to nitpick whether they will cover an issue. The last one, my pool circuit/power box that runs the pump gave up the ghost. I live beachside in Florida and it was a plastic box in full sun. It deteriorated, cracked and broke open. This is in an area just off the pool, a few feet from the fence and garden. Nothing else is near. Either the tech or AHS decided that a tree had fallen on it and denied the claim. I called because they had never updated me or let me know days later and I needed the pool pump to be running. When I called, I was informed that since a tree fell on it, it would not be covered. I said, "a tree did not fall on it". She said, "well the report said it looked like a tree fell on it". I said, "ok, but since there has never been a tree near there, a tree could not have fallen on it". She said we will send out another tech, but if confirmed you will have to pay twice". They sent out a tech and he confirmed that the plastic had just worn with age and cracked open. AHS Denied it again, and I paid that same tech to do the actual repairs to replace the box for close to $900. Disappointing. Poor coverage, poor communication, and I still have not gotten the final report. They just told the service that it would not be covered.

In October 2024, I purchased a home warranty with American Home Shield Warranty Services. The warranty states I have a $125 deductible and then provides coverage limits per category. For the HVAC/furnace repair/replacement category, coverage is $5,000. On January 6, 2025, I filed a claim as my furnace had stopped working. They dispatched their chosen HVAC dealer for Columbus, OH, Red's HVAC. The technician from Red's arrived after office hours, spent 3 minutes at my furnace and came in to my home and told me the secondary heat exchanger was bad and while the part was covered under a recall by Carrier (furnace manufacturer), the labor was not and their recommendation was a new furnace for $10,000, which left me with a $5,000 out of pocket expense in addition to my claim limit of $5,000 to be paid by American Home Shield. I requested the dispatch of another HVAC company for a second opinion as well as additional quotes for comparison. American Home Shield's response on their customer service line was that they could not do that and they hung up on me. I procured additional quotes on my own of equivalent carrier furnaces to prove that that their chosen contractor, Red's HVAC in Marion OH was fraudulently inflating costs to force customers to pay more than what their home warranty covered. Because it was 20 degrees in Oh and I was already 3 days without heat and American Home Shield refused to connect me with someone who could resolve, I contracted with one of the quotes I myself procured and paid entirely out of my pocket for a new equivalent furnace at a total cost of $6,000. If American Home Shield had provided multiple quotes or reviewed what I had provided, it would have cost $6,000 versus the $10,000 they were demanding for an equivalent furnace replacement. As they would not and they forced me to procure out of my own pocket, I requested a reimbursement of all funds paid out of my own pocket which included the $5,000 maximum and the $125 deductible. No response.

Zero. They don't read their reviews they have somebody they pay to go right stupid stuff as replies. It's called reputation management. American Home Shield is the crappiest company ever because there's no American in the name. If you try to call her headquarters you'll get sent to Chinese outsourcers. When you call the headquarters you will discover that there are three or four other crappy warranty companies that they also handle. I know they don't read them and they don't care because I get these everyday in my email and you would think all the bad reviews left by me which is probably about 30 by now they would have responded. But they don't they just keep sending me emails for more reviews so I will generate bad reviews automatically with my AI checking my email every time they come in and I won't be bothered by it. They're by generating more bad reviews that they deserve

For us the value wasn't there. We had an AC claim that we had to pay $125 service fee and $850 in freon. Not to mention we were without AC for 3.5 weeks. We had 3 claim. I ther than Sears, in general you use contractors with the absolutely lowest ratings. If AHS would read the reviews on each contractor on your list you would see they have low rates because of the huge number of complains the contractor recieves regarding AHS. Lastly my last claim did it for me. I established the claim over the phone and told the rep it was for a paddle fan on my back porch and a light on my eve. AHS took my $125 and set me up with a 3.3 rated electrician. 2.5 weeks later the electrician said he was recommending replacement and I would need to buy the fans I wanted and would get a credit and he would come back and install them. Same for the light. I called for an update and your reply told me the electrician notes said the items weren't covered. Originally your rep should not have taken my $125 if thise items aren't covered. And finally, the electrician company emailed me offering to install the fans and lights on my dime. Kind of stincky. Overall I am left with a feeling of ill will and $125 lighter. I told the rep, Richmond, if the $125 were refunded by Monday i would consider keeping the service. No concession was made by AHS. Im done and I will warn everyone I can that the service is not worth the cost or all the fricking hassle.

I am still waiting for the repair to be done. The installer is still waiting for the AHS provided parts. AHS claims that regular and normal changeover parts to complete the repair are "modifications" which is completely ridiculous. They refused to send me a copy of the "modifications" in question. I would not recommend American Home Sheild to anyone. I have their best policy which is "exclusion only" coverage. They don't tell you that ordinary parts will be excluded, but they will definitely do so. I was warned by some people that they will cover minor issues, no problem, which I found to be true, but when tgere was a major repair, they deny most of it. This has proven to be the case. Beware of American Home Shield!!!

I have been trying to get my refrigerator fixed since September 24th. The first contractor never showed up. The second contractor showed up on October 2nd and stated a part was needed to get my refrigerator working. I called GM Appliance over several times and left voicemail messages. They do not answer the phones or return calls. I called American Home Shield and they have escalated the issue and refund my $125.00 and someone from escalation support is going to reach out to me and no one has. I need my refrigerator to be fixed. I have been without a refrigerator for a month. I have children who are on medication that needs to be in the refrigerator. This is a huge inconvenience and poor customer. I am considering canceling and going with another company who can better serve.

Submitted a service request on 4/29 for my microwave. It is now 9/3 and the repair is not done. Service provider kept cancelling the day of the appointment resulting in a rescheduled appointment at least 2 weeks later. No other service providers available in my area. Now this service provider says they no longer have technicians in my area. AHS does not actively communicate or follow up on service request status. I plan on cancelling my warranty and demanding that they refund me for 4 months of premium payments because they have not been able to complete this request. If you live in a remote or rural area, do not use AHS. They don’t have service providers, but they are happy to continue taking your money for premiums.

American Home Shield is Anything BUT AMERICAN! The only time I spoke with someone in the U.S. was when I signed up. All the call reps I spoke with were in the Philippines and was hard to understand or get a point across. My problem took 8 months to get resolved. There was always miss communication or no communication between American Home Shield , the Contractor and The customer. If it weren’t for me being consistent on what was going on who knows how long my problem would have gone on. The contractor diagnosed and installed the new unit with no problem but was given a hard time when requesting the new unit.

Disappointed with this home warranty company concerning coverage for repairs for my AC . I have been a customer with coverage for almost 20 years. I have had the unit repaired at least two to three times during the duration . The fee for service call, went from 45.00 to 125.00, per visit, which used to cover whatever the issue was. This year my AC stopped getting cool so I placed a service call to AHS. I paid the $125.00 for the service call only to be told I would need to pay an additional $ 1250.00 (my portion) of the bill to get my AC repaired. That’s twelve hundred and fifty dollars, that is not in my budget.

We had the worst knowledge with AHS. Our AC unit needed to be replaced because it was leaking gas and had other issues (22 years old unit). AHS refused to replace it even though the company they sent to repair the AC unit agreed that our AC unit needed to be replaced. Be aware that your old appliances will never be replaced by AHS. AHS purchases parts ol l of appliances that are no longer available to the public and make every effort to repair your old appliances. Nevertheless, the repair cost falls on you to pay the repair company contracted by AHS. We ended up not agreeing with their shady practice and replaced our AC unit on our own. I do not recommend their services.

American Homesheild is a complete scam and I’m letting all the people I know on social media how you take advantage of customers. I had a plumbing issue and reached out to you for serves. I explained I needed a snake to clear main drain. You sent AJ pllumbing to my house who have been there on multiple occasions. I answered the door he said what’s the problem? I said the same and need you to snake. He said I have to call my office for approval. I said why didn’t you get that before coming here. He never stepped foot in my house. I waited for him while I called you. Went back to the door to let him in and he took off with no explanation cci explained what happened to you who didn’t seem very interested in helping me. Saying we have to wait fo hear from them. Not to mention it took a week to get the appointment. I called you again to request another vendor and you had none. I the. Requested that you never send AJ plumbing to my house again. I also requested a full refund which you denied me the. Decided to give me 50% back which is unacceptable. I was forced to spend $500 on a plumber to come and fix the problem you wouldn’t fix. I will have my attorney to reach out for my reimbursement and the aggravation and stress you have caused me. I am looking for another home warranty company to handle my needs if this is not resolved. I GIVE YPU A NEGATIVE 5 As a rating

There is nothing good I can say about AHS over the last 3 years. I cancelled all 4 of my contracts. The last straw was when one of the AHS vendors said is would cost $5000 to fix a leak. After I cancel my policy, partly because of this interaction, I called a local leak detection company. After they located the leak I called a local plumber. The total to find and fix the leak was less than $600 and it was completed in 4 days from initial contact. I have other (documented) examples of how terrible AHS is. My advice is to save your money and not waste it on American Home Shield. They use the lowest priced and least skilled vendors and they will make up reasons to not cover your claims.

If I could have left a zero rating I would have. We have problems with our Air Conditioner cycling on and off all summer. The last time was for 9 hours during the day. A & R Complete Services was out 3 times. Problem was never fixed. However, the real reason for the no star rating is their complete lack of communication and cooperation when they were asked to come out a 4th time. According to American Home Shield they accepted the return visit, but despite us leaving countless messages to call us back at a certain number they never called us at that number. They kept calling a different number. We even told American Home Shield to remove that other number from our account. They never set up an appointment with us. We called American Shield numerous times to complain and they called as well. A & R also ignored them. We asked American Shield to set us up with someone else but that request was refused as well. Terrible service between the vendor and the insurance company.

Have been a paying customer for years and have never been 100% satisfied with them. Depending on what you need, you will sit on hold for a long time and when you do talk to someone, for me, it is very difficult to understand their dialect. My most recent a/c encounter…their tech cam out and spent maybe 15 minutes at the house and told me that my evap coil was bad and needed to be replaced and took a picture of a date on the outside of the air handler showing if that it was last replaced in 2015. What he didn’t realize, the evap coil was changed in 2021 and was noted on the inside of the air handler on the inside but he wouldn’t know that because he never took the cover off to actually check it. I know this because I was standing at the bottom of the steps. I was sent a quote for the uncovered portion that AHS said that I would have to pay out of pocket for almost $6,000. I called to get a second opinion and AHS said that I had to pay because they wouldn’t cover just because I didn’t agree with the price. I paid out of pocket to rediagnose and the issue was that the heater was blowing at the same time as the a/c. It cost me $380. I did the cash in lieu of payment option through AHS so I could reimburse myself for paying my own a/c tech and it was a nightmare to get my money back. It took months and they made me seem like I was the bad guy.

We had an unpleasant experience with AHS recently. Our tankless systems computer board was shorted out due to our power being turned off and on during the recent hurricane. The first company came out and pronounced the unit failing due to improper maintenance and it lacked a valve for clean out. I explained to the guy that it had been maintained and our plumber did not have an issue cleaning out the system. I requested a second opinion and my claim was denied to not having the correct valve as previously mentioned. The quotes to replace the unit were $6600.00 and $4400.00. I found a new unit for $998.00 and hired a plumber for $300.00. A big difference and I feel the first two companies were taking advantage of the storm by price gouging. I wrote a letter to AHS expressing my concerns and it was returned to me. I sincerely believe the process needs an appeals process that allows the homeowner to express their concerns and not rely exclusively on the first company’s information. It’s to the first company’s advantage to recommend a denial so that they benefit.

It took SIXTEEN WEEKS for AHS to replace my non-working refrigerator. TEN repair attempts (of which, the vendor failed to show up 3 separate times), and utter and complete failure to uphold the warranty in good faith. Continually just passed around to get me off the phone and to go away. Definitely efforts to exhaust the warranty holder to give up efforts to make AHS uphold their contracts. Miserable experience. Repair vendor even recommended filing with Attorney General! Claimed AHS has verbally threatened to drop repair contracts if replacement is requested - even when the appliance meets the criteria! Also claimed that repair company threatened employees with termination should they recommend replacement due to the threat of contract termination from AHS. Absolutely creates a conflict of interest and a seemingly intentional effort to take advantage of premium-paying customers. 1000% do NOT recommend.

Every repair I've done has taken multiple visits and repetitive calls to both you and the vendors to get done. For example, on my microwave repair, the first company flaked out after coming. The second company came, ordered a part, but when they installed it that wasn't the part which needed replacement. They then ordered supposedly the right part, but it was also wrong although the microwave then worked. However, the part they put on was sloppily glued over the original buttons you push and 1/3 of the bottom still showed the original non-working buttons because the part they glued on was the wrong size. They then claimed that this was only a cosmetic issue and it took multiple calls to them and AHS to get it resolved. The refrigerator repair is taking a similar track in that there has been someone out at least 5 times. It still isn't working right.

In our area they allow the HVAC and Plumbing Vendors to add in Non covered charges to recover the costs of the repairs that are supposed to be covered in AHS Platinum warranty . These charges can exceed $4000 for HVAC and $2000 for Hot water replacements covered under the warranty. AHS backs the Vendors Non covered charges which are not itemized and not specifically laid out for the customer to validate. These fees cannot be challenged with AHS and if you do not agree to this extortion the Void the AHS warranty on this item until you agree to the Non covered extortion . This is the newest AHS Scam to protect the vendors and to screw the warranty holder and to hold down warranty costs to AHS and it's vendors.

Paid my premiums to AHS for 2 years and had not made a claim, made my first claim on 06/03/2024 had 2 different service companies come to our home, both lied about the service work they did on our washer. When we called AHS and tried to talk to management, we were not believed that service companies did not try to fix our washer we called AHS 5 or 6 times to have washer fixed. AHS said that they were not going to fix our washer called another company to come to fix washer was told that it would cost $400.00 -$500.00 to fix decided instead to buy new washer cost was over $579.00 AHS send only $519.84. AHS management did not try to help us . We are very disappointed with AHS.

Absolutely horrible. I have been without central AC for the entire summer. The first vendor replaced the outside condenser without testing for a leak. A second vendor for found a leak in the inside air handler unit. They drained all the refrigerant out of my system, then said the repair was beyond their capabilities. A third vendor validated the required repair, but said they could not complete the work. Three additional vendors have been to my house, but none want to complete the required repair because AHS will not pay them the actual costs. AHS is ripping me off now by offering a cashout because they cannot find (won't pay) a vendor to complete the required work. The cashout is less than the refrigerant costs drained from my system. No AC since April. No reimbursement for window units. Horrible service and still waiting for an escalation team member to call me back since last week when he said he will call the same day. Stay away from this company.

They connect me to a call center, probably in India or somewhere offshore, where the operators have zero technical abilities. Then I’m paired with local contractors who want to collect a paycheck with doing the least amount of work as possible. In my case, after two months of phone calls and missing work to wait for contractors, I found the problem then I had to figure out a way to repair it myself. All American Home Shield can do is offer polite apologies, but no real service. I’m still left with giant holes in my ceiling and walls and water damage to my home that now I have to pay to fix.

American homeshield is a scam. It works as you pay your visit fee and need no major repairs, but as soon as you, my experience is that they get the contractor to file a fraudulent report and deny coverage. I even paid to get them to send out a second opinion (with promises of refunding my initial fee). But they ignored the truthful opinion and even after a report of normal wear & tear tried to deny my claim. I’m waiting to hear back from their legal team (promised yesterday) and if I don’t, I’ll be suing them in court for the cash payout noted in my policy of $5000. I had to replace the system myself after 8-9 weeks of their dancing around it, losing the contractor reports (allegedly), and allegedly losing my phone number.

Fixed problem, but took extremely too long three months to fix an electric toilet pump. This is for 83-year-old lady who had to deal with that inconvenience. The vendor was not reliable, not communicative and extremely slow response to note response to text calls from customer Representatives from American home shield made promises that have never been followed through on the toilet that was given to my mother was lower and shorter, which makes it more difficult for her to use so I’m out of my pocket to buy the correct height toilet for her. So very unhappy with America Home Shield as of now , as of now will not be renewing my subscription with them because of this feel as if my families inconvenience and concerns are just a small drop in a big bucket that they have .

I would give 0 stars if I could. AHS and their contractors extort money from their customers. I was a customer for several years and had to request service twice. Neither time did the contractor fix anything. Instead they said something was wrong that wasn't in order to get more money from me than was necessary. The contractors put in no effort either time to attempt to fix the issue before stating that something else needed to be corrected. The first time they cut a hole in my wall and left. That never needed to be done. The second time the contractor was here less than 5 mins and said I needed a new toilet when my pipe was clogged. I ended up purchasing the same tool the contractor had and unclogging it myself. The contractor did not even address the order I put in for the leaking pipes. I requested compensation due to the work order not being fulfilled and received none. Customer service lied to me numerous times when I requested a different contractor from the beginning due to the first bad experience, stating they would send out another contractor when there is not one available. I am not the only person who had a very similar experience. I have reported it to the BBB, Department of Consumer Affairs and plan to continue to report it until I receive back every dime I paid AHS.

I have had home warranties through a number of companies over the years - but for many years with AHS. There have been times the service was excellent, they responded quickly to assign a service provider who did good work. There have been many other times when the service was terrible. They took a fee for the service call, someone came and said something like "we don't cover this." This, even after I had called AHS ahead of time, to say 'hey, this is the issue - I don't want to pay $100 for a service call if this isn't covered.' To have them reassure me that it was covered, and then get absolutely no response of follow up when I complained after the fact. One customer service rep reassuring me, "don't worry, even though your online dashboard says the claim is closed, we know it isn't finished and we're working on it." Just not true, no follow up and I don't have time or bandwidth to chase them down. That happened more than once. Literally, "oh, we're sorry - the brand of your washer is hard to find parts for, nothing we can do, case closed." It isn't my fault your technician didn't know where to order parts for my washer. In the balance, some wonderful companies along the many years - but too many bad ones, and with the spike in cost for this service it isn't worth it.

American Home Shield is a very unprofessional company who strive to decline the service you are entitle under the policy. AHS personal are not trained on their own products and communicate with customers with the wrong information misleading them to decline service that should be covered by the plan. When I tryed to cancel the plan, they offered me 2 months of free premium, but never gave me the credit and they never cancel my policy either. They kept charging my visa with no authorization and refused to service even on the platinum premium plan. I do not recommend them. This last call was horrific! I phoned AHS because one of my air conditioning blades wasn’t turning. The first tech did nothing but tap the handle of a screwdriver on the units and said nothing was wrong, so he added free-on to one that was a bit low. Still had the problem. AHS sent a second tech. He stated my air conditioning unit was “to small” (even though my house has been here 17 yrs) and said on top of what I paid AHS, I would have to pay them $1260+. At that point, I called my regular air & oil company (since AHS does not allow you you use your own reliable companies). In about 2 minutes, my company Densmore diagnosed the issue. A pump was burned out that pumped water to the air conditioner. He had it fixed in less than 5 minutes. My out of pocket was about $350 and change. I doubt AHS will reimburse me for the clowns they sent out who attempted to stiff me for over $1200. I am VERY surprised AHS did not follow up on this earlier. They used to be a reputable company who used reliable companies. Not anymore. It’s sad to see they are dealing with sheisters now. It used to be a value.

I went through AHS for my split AC unit, just to have 5-6 different people come out to “fix” it and me having to miss working and open up my schedule to try to accommodate these times that they were going to come over . Instead of sending somebody capable of fixing the problem, each time it got worse according to each person sent to us. Not only am I 700+ dollars out but I had to go buy a Completely new AC split unit Due to American home shield now projecting the claim that they sent multiple people out to try to fix. I called them to See if I can get all of the money that I put into each claim back but instead I got a no. I could’ve definitely put that 700+ Towards a new unit or calling a separate company to come try to fix it on their own. After this situation, I was in disbelief.. And just wanted to cancel my policy since this is not the way you treat a Customer who has been with you guys for years.

I like the concept, but every service call is a fight with AHS. Our last service call resulted in the service provider damaging our house and not correcting the problem. AHS sent out another service provider that agreed that the orginial provider damaged the water valve and now the wall had to be opened to repair. The original service provider had quoted us $1500 (requesting us to pay for their mistake). AHS did not listen to their second provider and offered us $100 to walk away from the issue. I had to contact the owner and service manager for the first company, they agree that their tech screwed up and they are in the process of correcting. I HAD TO DO AHS's JOB FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER. We are still battling them (2 months) as they would only patch the drywall, not texture and paint the wall.... The company who they sent out to patch the wall wants another $1000 to texture and paint the 24"X24" hole. SO FRUSTRATING that they don't give a dang about their customers and let their service providers take advantage of their customers. Maybe they are in Kahoots, I am not sure.

The communication is so difficult because of the language barriers. Many questions never answered. One day I saw without notice that my premium had increased by $50 and I never gave permission for the upgrade. I called and requested to continue receiving the same standard policy that I’ve had since day one. I had my policy randomly cancelled. I requested investigation as to who cancelled it because it wasn’t me. No one contacted me. I requested to speak to supervisor. I was told I would be contacted later. So now, I am currently without a policy. For 3 years I needed a leak fixed under my sink. I paid multiple service fees but told each time it couldn’t be fixed because I didn’t give an accurate account of what was leaking. How am I supposed to know? I’m not a plumber. Finally, many representatives are unpolite and speak condescending. I’ve had so many terrible experiences.

I started my policy in July of 2009 and I've paid every month from July 2010 until June 2024. I never needed the service until 2 years ago to have my air conditioning serviced. After a cancelled appointment and AHS being unable to locate a contractor, I gave up. I decided to try again in May of 2024, after all this is why I have the home warranty! This ended badly! Two technicians came out both with different diagnosis (Preferred Heating and Cooling and Piedmont Mechanical). Preferred claimed that they weren't allowed on my property and couldn't service my AC, which was a false claim. Piedmont refused to submit a diagnosis, so it bounced back to Preferred. I escalated the issue to the contract relations department on June 19th. I finally cancelled the policy on July 6 after not hearing anything back from them. I would not recommend American Home Shield. The vendors appear to be sketchy and untrustworthy.

They send out the worse companies for repairs. The job is never done correctly and AHS will tell you that you have to pay your deductible again in order for them to go out again. Companies will tell you that the first company did not do the job correctly. My garage door opener would open real slow. Sometimes I would have to mess with it several times before I could leave. AHS told me the opener was still working. I got tired of having messing with my garage door opener every time I wanted to leave somewhere I ended up buying the garage door with my money. I was paying a monthly fee, a deductible and replacing my own things. I was losing money and AHS was making money.
