My claim was closed before the issue was fixed. I called to get the claim reopened and was told I needed to open a new claim and pay another service call fee. I insisted on speaking with a supervisor and was told I would get a call in 24 hours. Very upsetting given my A/C wasn't working in 100° weather. Will not be renewing my policy given these practices.

I put in a claim on June 1st and I didn't get an appointment until June 23rd. I went without air conditioning in that time. As soon as this gets straightened out, I'm probably going to drop them.

Disappointed that they didn't follow-through with communications or directions on how to proceed for a claim. They told me to call for an appointment and pay the repairman, and I followed their process. Then I didn't hear from them again until I reached out. That's when they said I didn't follow their process (none was given except call and pay) so they were not going to reimburse us for our repair. Very disappointed, it obviously is set up to use their repairman and then not allow the claim.

The website is horrible and people online don't know anything about what's going on. I needed to fix something on my microwave and it took almost a month to get it fixed and then the warranty returned with the part. Took another month.

There's always issues with communicating, getting them to understand what is done or not done, sending the wrong vendor people that don't even serve our area, things like that. It's very annoying period.

Their customer support team seems to genuinely care. My A/C doesn't work and it is apparently because of my breaker box needing to be updated and the claim was denied so I'm extremely unhappy.

When I called for the warranty I said that the only reason I wanted to pay the extra to include the pool was because I was told the lights usually start giving problems around the 5th year. My pool is 6 years. The guy said that I should be ok getting it. Guess what? After 3 + months in one of the lights is having issues: they denied my claim.

I would never recommend Home Warranty of America. They are scammers and will take your money and refuse to help you. If you want to throw your money in a pit and burn it, use this company for your home warranty. Nothing will be save/secured/insured/protected. Their call centers are a joke, filled with people that can barely speak English. In fact, if you look up their phone numbers that they use, they show up on Robokill sites as spam. And, after talking to 3 or 4 representatives, I completely agree.

I had no issue with service for any claim in the 4 years I have been a member. Until it was my HVAC. I needed a part replaced, and the part was costly. I had to go through 5 vendors to finally get to one who would complete the job. Their complaint was, that they were not getting paid for previous jobs, so they dropped me quick. HWA at the time was bought by another company. Twice during my claim. The people answering the phone did not speak English very well. It was very difficult. My AC was broken for 8 months. When you pay $65 a month you expect better service.

I have not had a very positive experience with them. I even had one of their customer service representatives tell me that I was stupid and hung up on me. My furnace went out when it was about about 15 degrees outside. They refused to help me at first they told me that I had to go sign with some people to service myself and and then held my check for about 67 days after I paid the invoice and they had guaranteed 30 days. It was more than twice that.

One star is still overrating HWA. They hide disqualifying repairs in different places of the terms of conditions. Their reputation is so bad in my area that technicians will not work with them leaving the customer either waiting and extended time for a repair or finding one through their reimbursement option. They stopped approving my claims after my refrigerator was diagnosed for replacement; and that only happened once I got BBB involved. They are so horrible they had to start up a different company called “Choice Home Warranty”. Do your research. BBB grades matter.

HWA is the best home warranty i would advice every homeowner to safe guard his or her home with. Am a proud beneficiary of this service. it provided me with a whole home protection plane, including a plane that covers my appliances, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

When your water heater goes out, and if you are paying a company to be there for you at a time like, it shouldn’t take 5-6 days for them to get you an appt to get it fixed. When it took over a month to get my washer fix and I realized I could have paid for what a washer cost with the $100 service call plus the 4 weeks to the laundromat. You start to ask yourself what are you paying this company for?!? What surprises me is that they were recommended to me. They got three stars because they have sent competent people to do the work. Except the washer. I had to Replace thy because it worked for 4mos before it died again with the same problem. I wasn’t about to wait a month again for a piece to fix it.. at that point I could buy a really expensive washer. So I have them still but I will be cancelling my payments. I will try some one else, but maybe they are all like this. I don’t know. It’s disappointing.

Their response time is good, always professional, and they fix the problem. I know everything costs more, I would like them to tell me prior to raising monthly fee. It went up 10$ without warning me or I missed the notice. All in all for me it is worth the money esp on big appliances or air conditioning etc. It is amazing how They get things running again and I appreciate their service. 4.5 stars Thank you all, Deborah Jackson

Whereas I was pleased that my hot water heater was replaced, I still had to pay out of pocket $455 for non covered items to "bring up to code". The plumbing company had to remove the trim off my door in order to install the larger replacement hot water heater. This resulted in additional cost to me to have the door and wall repaired. In today's times, it is difficult to pay out a monthly amount (for the highest package offered) and when you do attempt to use it, most times the claim will be denied because the required replacement or service is not covered. To add insult to injury, the monthly premium is going up. I am now on a fixed income and will have to seek another warranty company to switch to. I will not miss HWA at all.

I have had HWA for 15 years since I purchased my home continuing an existing contract the previous homeowner had. If you can wait 4 weeks or so for a repair it will work out for you. HWA has replaced the outside portion of my AC unit as well as the inside portion portion and the thermostat on different occasions (Freon is extra) so it is a big plus. Unfortunately I had to suffer 5 to six weeks of mid summer heat each time this happened. However when my water heater went out they were unable to find a technician immediately and have an option to pay a portion of my technician’s fee upon approval I took that option. After a week long battle I decided to wait and let HWA do the repair. After another week or so battle with HWA who now insisted that I choose to use my own tech they could not provide one. My tech refused to deal with HWA. I ended up paying over $1200 for a replacement water heater. My mistake, wait 4 weeks and let them do it. The Final Straw. AC freezes up, contact HWA, appointment schedule one week. No show. Pissed, called HWA, a Technical arrival that evening to access problem and summit claim. Next day got an Email saying the Freon leak was not covered because it was external to unit. Pissed I called a local company that was ready to repair quoting close to $1000 to recover, repair, then replace Freon. Called HWA to cancel contract. I was referred to a Conflict Resolution who called me back within an hour. At that time I found out my contact was being served by Choice Home Warranty who did not have a history of my repairs. After I gave my history with HWA and justification for coverage much more reasonable price that allowed them to do the repair and me to keep the contract in force. Patience is a virtue.

They responded next day to a broken garage spring. The repairman informed me that the current setup for my garage door was incorrect and cheaply thrown together. Also, my garage should have had 2 springs instead of one. He fixed everything up to code with just adding the cost of the second spring. I was very happy with their service.

Per my policy, I have certain septic services, but there are no companies available,,nobody returned my call so I paid for it out of pocket. Customer service isn't fantastic,,,I get several emails for my last repair that contradicted each other. Hwa emailed me service dates when in fact the technician was already at the property. Hwa told me it was approved,,then emailed me and told me it wasn't, I then called Hwa and the person I talked to had no idea what was going on. I don't think the actual operators know what emails Hwa sends which causes confusion. My techs have been pretty good and my last tech was actually fantastic.

Customer service has gotten much better. Also, the turn around time to get things fixed has gotten better as well. Only thing I dislike is that they give you a gift card to Lowe’s instead of giving you a check to buy appliances that can not be fixed. I’d like to chose where I go to buy things not having to go just to Lowe’s.

I sent 2 claims in on the same day in mid-January. My leaking refrigerator claim was handled quickly and efficiently. My claim regarding my garbage disposal was slow in being processed, and a workman showed up on a Sunday afternoon, totally unannounced. He looked at the disposal, said it needed replacing, took a bunch of pictures, and took my $75. He said it was a premium disposal so it would take a while to get processed. When I hadn't heard anything after 5-6 weeks I requested information and was told since it had been longer than a month I would need to submit a new claim. I was not happy but I did it. A repairman was at my house within a few days and was able to replace it on the spot. Of course, I did have to pay another $75 for his visit, but he was very professional and took care of everything. I think when I pay over $800 a year for my warranty the service could be better.

I liked that they addressed my claims right away. A problem was that they didn't have contractors, who say they don't like working for HWA because of what they have to go through to get an approval for their bill. Otherwise, they did get the items fixed that we had to claim. They make it VERY hard to cancel your membership & I was not happy with that.

I've had HWA since 2016. They were amazing up until 2019/20. Definitely not as good as it used to be but not terrible. They almost never are able to find a contractor to do any service call, no matter what it is, so if you want it fixed you have to do the reimbursement option with finding your own contractor and you always end up paying more than your service charge. They say that you can file a claim 24/7 and will get a response within 10-15 min. That is not the case! If you have an emergency or the contractor comes after hours or the contractor ends up coming on a weekend and they are not available to help you get an pre-approval for the service you will pay 100% out of pocket, if it happens to be during business hours when the contractor comes and you are able to file for the reimbursement option it takes anywhere from at least an hour to get an approval and almost always the contractor is unable to wait around for a response but if you have then fix it before it's approved you will pay 100% out of pocket. I don't know if it's that contractors are not wanting to work with the warranty company or not but if it's not an emergency it's absolutely worth waiting for them to assign one. My last service call. They approved the work to be done minus the $75 service call fee but when we received the check it was over $90 shy of the amount owed, this doesn't happen when they find a contractor. The time before we had a claim for over 3 weeks without them finding a contractor we woke up on a Saturday morning to the pipe breaking and a flood we had no choice but to call a plumber, it cost over $2,000 to be fixed and they refuse to cover any of it because we did not get a pre-approval, it was a Saturday afternoon and there was nobody to review the claim and approve it and our kitchen was flooding damaging the cupboards, drywall and floor. 2019 and before they were amazing to work with.
