Dissatisfied & Irritated Customer

Absolutely ridiculous outcome. Company was willing to pay $1,800 in parts but when a part was back ordered and the supplier said it could be sooner but average time for part is a few months. Choice decided they’d only give me $800 towards a new fridge. Now I don’t understand this at all. It doesn’t make any sense to me. They also told me the check for $800 takes 30 to receive it. It’s already been 3 weeks since it broke!! What’s 4 more?!

When my garbage disposal broke, they had a plumber out in a day. We needed a new one and they had approved the claim and the plumber was out the next day to replace it.

Most of the repair companies that they use are sub-par, some are flat out incompetent. Although I've gotten most covered, it's like pulling teeth. They also replace broken items (if your so lucky to have the claim approved) with the cheapest parts they can get away with. Our first claim was our air conditioner. It was denied, we had to jump through hoops to finally get it covered. Another claim was our under cabinet ice maker. They sent 5 companies out to try and fix it, finally they just paid us for a new one...the problem...they only gave us $400 to buy a new one...the cheapest ones are in the $1500-$1700 range. My final straw was when our heater went out. The company they sent out was completely incompetent. Their diagnosis was a surge caused a blower motor to fail. Surges are not covered. The only problem, I have a whole house surge protector and a surge protector on the unit itself. I had my HVAC company come out to look at the unit. There was no surge, in fact the motor was still spinning, it was the module that controls the motor. When presented with the real diagnosis, they still denied the claim. I would highly recommend another company, although I have heard they are pretty much all the same. If you do plan on going with this company, plan on being with out your system (whatever that may be) for at least a week! With this last claim, I was with out heat for nearly a month before they denied my claim. My first claim was also around a month before I got it fixed. So, if that happens to be your A/C or heat and it's in the middle of summer or winter...

What I liked about my ice maker repair, is the guy was diligent trying to find the leakage issue. He pulled the fridge out to look in the back and found a cracked tubing. He replaced using the material the previous guy left. What I didn't like about this repair, it three attempts to finally get the ice maker fixed.

Choice Warranty processed my claim, sent out a technician to diagnose the problem, and offered funds towards replacing our refrigerator, all within (10) days.

I liked the service man who reviewed my loss. I disliked how slowly the company responded to my urgent need. I'm 86-years-old. My wife is 93-year-old and needs my help. We need to refrigerate medicines. The company treated my claim for a failed refrigerator with disregard. Be aware... damage caused by power surges are not covered in the service contract!

During our last service call, we were deemed to need a new refrigerator. The refrigerator we had was a nice Kenmore with the icemaker. While they did except the replacement, they only wanted to give us about half of what it cost to buy a new one. And then you have to wait 15 to 30 days to get that. I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s hard to live without a refrigerator. And I thought a home warranty was to help you in these unexpected times. It would be better to save your money in a savings account so that when you need a refrigerator, you can actually buy it and actually replace it. They wanted to give us about enough for a new mini fridge. I will not use them again. And I would never recommend them to anyone.

I would have gave this company no stars but it wouldn't allow me. They use the lowest of the low cheapest of the cheap companies, then any chance they find to default on a warranty issue or find you a thought for something they will. This past call out that I have with this terrible company they sent out a crew that couldn't speak English then on top of that they didn't come the day they were supposed to The customer service lady or office lady lied and said they called me left a message and I didn't answer, which was a blatant lie! Then they so-called fix the issue but then it reoccurred choice home warranty company are terrible people with horrible customer service and they pick horrible companies to do work!

Unlicensed contractors were sent out to our place for claims, to include one person who showed up in a black spray painted van, their family name spray painted in white on the side, with a busted windshield. Our boiler hasn't worked since September and due to state laws requires a licensed plumber. Lot's of unlicensed companies that can't afford to wait for reimbursement have shown up, all say the thing needs to be replaced. Local companies warn AGAINST doing reimbursement with this company saying that if you go that route they have never heard of a client being reimbursed. Apparently they have settled from what I understand online fraud complaints with several states attorney generals and have several more that they are expected to settle. Also we were told that there is no time limit that they are required to act in and that if our pipes burst due to their inaction for going on four months that they have no liability. As a disabled veteran, I would heavily recommend that you avoid this company, and any real estate company that sells there services. Look at the reviews listed, the good ones are almost solely from dealing with their sales staff, not the service side of their company.

Be very cautious. I renewed, I’m regretting it. This company is giving me the run around behind replacing my A/C unit. As I type this, they literally resend me the same email asking me to approve a service their own technician said would not fix my A/C system, they’re giving me and their technician the run around, he asked for paperwork to be sent so that he could fill out t what was needed to replace the system, he is still waiting. It’s going on a month without my A/C. Also, this company denied my water heater claim and I am still waiting to be assigned a claims specialist because I disputed their reasoning. They claimed they serviced a water heater they never serviced, in fact, they denied the claim under the old contract and I had to pay a company to replace that water heater at my own expense. I’m under a new contract, that water heater they claimed they serviced, is not a topic of discussion because it’s not the water heater I filed a claim on a new contract. They are very shady, oh, and you will more than likely have to pay more than your deductible if they fix or replace anything. As a matter of fact, you will get denied on things and have to hire someone to fix it. Always keep your receipts, they will ask for them if you file a claim again on a system they denied fixing before. Heck, I’m still waiting on them to fix my dispenser for my Ice-maker on my refrigerator, that claim is several months old, they sent the tech the wrong part, and I’m still waiting to hear back from that. Be very cautious. No one should be a victim of faulty business practices and a company willingly trying to get you to cancel the contract so they don’t have to complete their contractual obligations. I’m a disabled vet, and paid my contract in full due to limited resources. I am regretting that decision, don’t be fooled by the people saying it’s such great service. Their rep really sold how they had gotten better since my first contract, it looked promising at first, but then, the same old thing. When it comes to replacing things like I mentioned, be prepared. Be careful, seek wisely.

My refrigerator stopped working on 9/6/24. This is the 3rd call in 10 years on this fridge. Technician arrived on 9/10 and on 9/12 told Choice that the parts were not available and to replace the fridge. Since 9/12, I have called daily for updates. On 10/17 a new tech came and on 10/21 Choice authorized a repair and want to charge my family $181 extra. There is no date in sight for part arrival or repair and my family of 4 has been without a fridge since 9/6. Choice has no remorse or care and offered to give me one month free - $35. I have spent $36 per week since 9/6 on ice to provide proper food for the family. So, I am already out $252, and counting. I cannot rate my experience lower than a 1, but I can say that people should think twice before venturing down this path. This company will not care about your family.

I was told by my brother in law to get this warranty. Everything was good till my central ac went bad in the middle of July when it was 95-105 in the house with a 2 disabled people, diabetic, 87 y/o elderly who can't walk. That's when you realize not helpful at all. They told me to go get my own company because Blum management who took the job kept canceling. Mom had a fever almost passed out from the heat. Top it we lost electricity so didn't have fan either. I begged CW to get me someone sooner but no one helped me. Every person I spoke to was rude nasty attitude. I tried to get my money back & was giving me practically nothing back. I begged for my mom but they were all heartless. I called several times with no response. I was on disability & just went back to work still sick. At least I got to go to work but my disabled mom couldn't go anywhere. I asked what would they have given if they company their authorize get paid. They said $3000 & still did not give me that. Gave me only yesterday 450 out of 12,000. Only Antiwaque was kind & cared but still couldn't give me the $. Stopped talking to my bro in law because of this when I asked him to help me & he didn't. So upsetting what happened. Been very sick from the non-stop calls to CW with getting rude, nasty resolution specialist such as Danielle. You can never get the same person you spoke to do you have to tell over & over again what happened. Customer service usually all men are rude. Never answer with their name. So disgusted with what happened. Hope everyone in this CW that was inconsiderate get karma for with what they put my mom & I through. Extremely shameful, inhumane. 😡 Not one person cared!!!!! I was telling when I first got this warranty to recommend people as I'm a good networking person. Not anymore. I will not recommend this company to anyone. I thought Sears was bad but wow this company is the worst for what they put my elderly handicapped mom & I through. No one would listen.

Hi repair man came after a week of waiting. He was here for about 30 minutes. Said he couldn’t get it to do what he thought he would after he left the washing machine still wouldn’t work. We called him and told him what it was doing. He said water valve water valve that’s been almost 2 weeks Still haven’t got a water valve to try to get it to work but I’m not happy I’m getting service. He didn’t do no diagnostics or nothing. He was in my home for about 30 minutes. Hope things get better should be next week. Hope it gets better for us. Thank you for being concerned.

I have had home warranty coverage with Choice Home Warranty for a little over a year. During that time I have made two claims. One was just a blocked drain that was backing up and the other was a washing machine service. The first claim, which was the blocked drain they told me that it was not a covered service. I talked to a couple of people because the previous coverage I had covered that type of service. To make a long story short, they did not pay anything and I had to pay $300 out of pocket to get the drain cleared. I mentioned it to my sister-in-law, which is a top realtor in the city of Montgomery and she advised me that it was a covered service. When I called Choice back for the fourth time, they agreed that it should have been covered. Then on September 15, 2024 My washing machine would not turn on. I called choice and they did not schedule me a service call until September 26. I expressed to them that I needed something to be taking care of before then. They said they would check on it in call me back. Then, the next day I received an email that the September. 26th appointment had been canceled and they rescheduled it for October 1. I called and spoke to Supervisors, So they say after holding for 20 minutes or so. They said they would call the service company and try to get it expedited. That was a bunch of hogwash. I live in the capital city of Alabama, Montgomery, and they had no available technicians or service people here. Someone came from Columbus Georgia to service the washing machine. Of course it could not be repaired and I needed to get a replacement one. I have been at this point without a washing machine for over three weeks!!!!! To make things worse, The amount that they provided to purchase a washer was like a third of the least expensive one I could find. I called and mentioned that to a case manager, and he said that’s all Choice could pay. Then, to top it all off, they said they would not send out the funds until 30 days!!! Can you believe that?! This is the worst service I have ever contracted with in my life. I have been paying The monthly fee with a service fee of $75. I was advised that the monthly fee was going to increase as well as the service fee. All I can share is that this was the worst experience with a company that did not care about customer service or meeting the needs of their consumer. I would use anyone else before contracting with Choice Home Warranty. Especially with this last claim, I feel like they did not care or appreciate me as their client. My sister-in-law and realtor will no longer recommend or purchase this for her new clients.

Choice Home Warrenty is very difficult to communicate with. It takes multiple months to have an issue resolved after filing a claim. They have a very rude phone representative that spoke like an internet troll - It was very intentional. Of that experience, he said there was no record of claims and said electrical was denied. I ended the call and sent an follow up email for clarity with another, and nothing the troll said was true (which makes sence), home choice had every record, electrical claim hadn't been denied. I called the technician too who said the claim was open. A technician that came to my house twice warned me against choice home warranty letting me know I'd be facing frustration and time sucks from them. They shared an alternative company that they preferred. The technicians that actually do the work and have serviced the house have been phenomenal (but they do not work for choice home warranty directly).

Sent in 2 request and both times it has not been good. 1st request I put exactly what I wanted done, and they sent out a plumbing company to do they work. Problem is plumbing company stated this is not covered by warranty and I had to pay out of pocket. I understand why they wouldnt cover it, by why didnt Choice read my email and catch this. THIS IS YOUR JOB. 2nd request i specifically said I need to find someone on a Saturday due to my work schedule. Once again no one read my email and just scheduled it for a Friday. I immediately cancelled the work order. Choice only seems to care about getting a subscription renewed as I get 5 calls a day. Tried to overlook this and my account manager called and said he was going to email me and leave his personal information, but like I expected he never did. Worst experience with a warranty company ever!

Very disappointed with Choice. They could not find a plumber, so asked me to find one. I did and they did a great job. Choice refused to pay for the claim because the plumber didn't write up the work the way Choice wanted. Same thing for the electrician. Next, they did not want to get the part to fix my washer, so they issued money for me to buy my own replacement. The funds did not cover the cost of a like machine, but $400. Choice claims agent verified this fact, and advised that Choice does not give out new washers for old ones. They provide the funds for a similar unit at their cost, but will not help get the item at their cost.

Listen to the reviews below. Stay away from this company. Worst ever. I had American home shield should have stuck with them. Latest issue of many the garage door spring broke, looked at the contract they literally dont cover anything if the garage door breaks except the motor. If you buy a high end whatever and they have to replace oh well you get the lowest end model of whatever you bought. And dont EVER let them tell you to coordinate your own service and they will repay you, because they wont. Doesnt matter what company you choose it is higher than what they would pay. They will make up whatever excuse not to pay your claim. Good luck in adjudication when they disapprove of your claim for whatever reason, one time didnt even get call back from person the other just say sorry we dont cover it oh well. JUST STAY AWAY!.

They do not replace your appliances with equal or greater value as they claim to, they cash it out at their cost which is about a third of what you can actually buy it for, which is also cheaper than their willing to pay to repair the item, they paid me $1100 to replace a $3600 refrigerator & now $400 to replace a $1500 freezer They have lawsuits in different states for fraud, I personally am filing complaints with the attorney general & the BBB DONT FALL FOR THEIR SALES PITCH they used to be really good I’ve had them for over 15 years but they said they changed a couple years ago, & they won’t tell you that, it’s in the fine print

Choice is a terrible warranty company! This is the 3rd time we made a claim and there is always some reason they can't cover a claim or they assign technicians that won't cover our area. Choice makes the consumer do most of the leg work in communicating with the technicians. This last claim is the last straw, I am immediately canceling and I will share on every social media review I can find how terrible there service is. Our air conditioner went out. I made a claim describing we had seniors in the house and needed the AC fixed as soon as possible. They took 2 days to try to find someone to service our area. Choice then sends an email asking us if we wanted to hire someone out of network since they were not finding anyone in network and they would reimburse us minus the service fee. We hired the people that actually installed the AC unit that had the issue. We send Choice the problem description, pictures, invoice and everything they asked, and on the same day Choice denied the claim stating we didn't get prior approval. I needed my AC unit fixed immediately! They completely ignored that this was an emergency and that we had seniors in the house as I stated in the claim. They make us do all the leg work, promising to reimburse us then find some technicality as to why they wont reimburse us. They always find a reason not to pay a claim! That's been our experience. Choice is the worst warranty company we have ever worked with. We had AHS before this and the only reason we stopped using them was because they started getting too pricey, but their service was so much more superior. They always did the leg work, we got decent technicians in a reasonable time, though they try hard not to replace stuff they actually did replace one of our ac units and one of our appliances inside the house. Choice is the complete opposite. We have not had one successful claim out of the 3 we made. I guess the moral of this experience is you get what you pay for.

It takes too long to get assistanceto get the job completed. It takes weeks to get completed. The the technicians are really good. But if a job cannot be completed at one time, then I have to wait a week and then it rolls into another week for Choice to approve and scheduling goes into another week. Getting service completed satisfactorily takes way to Long. 2-3 days to finish that is routine a job I can understand. Sc0heduling to complete a job is way to long, when it rolls in from 1 week to another. Because of this, considering canceling my policy.

This company has no regard for the insured...when your refrigerator goes out it takes weeks for them to settle. No regard for what the insured is going through with food spoiling etc....I can't image what would happen to us if our AC unit goes out in the heat of the summer 100 degrees plus and we are elderly......Prior claim for refrigerator claim took over a month.....we had to go out and buy one on own own and argue with "adjuster" as to its value and only available at Lowes....I was told 'we get it for wholesale'..... I said funny I don't get it for wholesale.....Think twice about a company with no regard for its insureds.....I think my next complaint with be with the Texas Attorney General and Texas Dept of Insurance....

I had 2 choice warranties, one for my rental property which expired and I chose to go with another company, and one for my primary residence. I have filed claims on both warranties, 3 on my rental property all of which were denied. I had one denied on my primary residence, 1 denied, 1 approved but the payout wasn't enough to cover the refrigerator it was replacing and I was hard-pressed to find one that the payout would cover. I also had one approved for HVAC but it took 6 weeks and 5 contractors to have my A/C fixed during record-breaking heat (several accepted the job but never showed up for the appointments). Over a week ago I filed a claim for my water heater that was leaking, it took 4 days for someone to come look at it and say it needed to be replaced (I knew that), then 3 days for Choice to say they approved it, but in fact, the water heater was still under manufacturers warranty and I had to pay the $513 for labor so really they didn't do anything other than provide me with a plumber to do the job. He did but didn't put the splash guard on the water heater so if it overheats the water will go all over the place instead of in the drip pan below, so it is unsafe. I will have to call the plumber to have him come back out and do it right.

I submitted a claim on 3/13/24 and today is 4/4/24. It’s been exactly 3 weeks and they have no been able to fix my leaking kitchen sink. I have spoken to them 17 times in the last 3 weeks and every single time I have been told they will take care of it. They never have. I have been transferred to resolution twice and have done absolutely nothing. Every time I speak to one of their representative they tell me the same thing, I have to wait 24-48 business hours to hear back and I never do. I have been calling the plumbing company they assigned and they said they have submitted everything they ask for multiple times or it’s crickets from the warranty company. It’s been 3 weeks since I have been able to use my kitchen sink and it’s more than unacceptable. What is the point of purchasing a home warranty if they do not care or do anything for you? Yet they send you multiple emails a day to buy their products. This has become more than an inconvenience. At this point they are at a breach of contract. They were paid to do something they have failed to do. I will also be filing a complaint with CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS. This company should not be in operating. They are scamming people and potentially causing their costumers hundreds of dollars. Check BBB reviews they are 1 star with a pending lawsuit from the State of Arizona.

CHW told me that if they cannot fix an appliance, they will replace it. Well it is not true. CHW meant to say they give a small potion of the replacement. My wall double oven needs replacement. CHW offer me $650 to replace it. As a result, the oven cost me $2, 895.00 to purchase and $400 for installation. Not happy about it. Also the sales customer service don't believe the sale pitch because the claim department will prove them wrong. The level of service provides from CHW is not fit a home about $200k. Tread lightly. 😞

This company in my opinion is beyond shady. They fraudulently took one payment out of my account, let me explain. I was looking for a new home warranty plan. I am currently with American Home Shield and their prices have gone up across the board. I was online looking and I got a call from Choice. I was in the process of signing up and my payment would not go through so I cancelled and hung up. Two days later I looked at my bank and he, the representative, had apparently saved my debit card information and charged my card anyway even though I told him to cancel. He tried to call me back many times and was working and could not answer. I am beyond furious and when I called for a solution, their solution was one free month and a $5 per month discount. This was of course not enough for me since they had already committed fraud on me. PLEASE, PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. In my opinion they are beyond shady. One free month is nothing since it cannot even be used for 30 days. I simply cannot get over this. I have never had this happen to me before with a company supposedly so highly rated.

choice warranty is a horrible company of absolute scammers and liars. they raise your already astronomical rates compared to other warranty companies and do not honor their own free serive calls or contract obligations. they cannot get technicians to your home to complete repairs. i have had choice, and the worst one ive ever made, since sept 2022. in dec of 22 i filed a claim for my electric garage door which took them a month and a half to get a technician out to fix ( 3 techs assigned never showed up. a free serive call was ultimately applied after much argument to get it). only remaining issue on that call was then the length of time it took for them to get it done inspite of their 48 hour guarantee. i was convinced by choice when i mentioned not renewing my policy when it ended that this was a fluke and rarely happens so in 2023 i like an idiot, took them at their word and renewed my contract. which brings us to this new claim i filed on 3/12/2024 for a plumbing issue. 2 major problems right from the start. i was told upon filing the claim that i have a free first service call on my account for renewing my contract. im on that renewel and made my first claim on that renewed contract for this plumbing issue and now choice will not only not honor the free service call i was not only told i have by a claims associate, but also by a supervisor. now to boot being repeatedly lied to and recieving the worst customer service a company can provide, again they cannot get a technician out to do the job.....that they are being paid for while breaching their own contract and not honoring their own promotions, then no one at choice has any accountability what so ever they just tell you the problem is outside of their scope and transfers you to the resolution department who couldnt resolve anything if they even bothered trying they just tell you the previous people you spoke to have to do it thus everyone just passes you back n forth for hours and days at a time to just repeatedly lie to you, screw you over, and not honor their own contract aggreements pertaining to repairs and not honor their own promotions all inspite of being recorded in their phone calls with you. do not use choice warranty at all, ever, it will be the worst mistake you could possibly make in choosing a warranty company which instead of being called choice, should be called wrong choice. get as far away from them as you can you'll just get ripped off and lied to over and over again. worst company ever. Will not be renewing when contracts up. Date of experience: March 13, 2024

The amount of time to get someone to the house. The plumber came and said it was not the water heater (original claim) it was the pressure reduction valve. Foubd out when the 2nd plumber came to the house that it was the pressure release valve on the water heater and the expansion tank, on the water heater. So first you sent a guy who said what he thought was the issue but didn't actually test the reducing valve to know it was the issue. Then you charge me another $75 for a different plumber to come out and actually run tests and figure out the original problem. The 2nd plumber decided to tell my wife and I that we should just fix it because Choice may or may not pay for it and it's only $295. The water heater had been leaking now for almost a month with no resolution from Choice, so we had it fixed. On top of that, your personnel that answer the phone for a claim and call the customer for the claim are rude, they don't listen and don't want to help. They just continue saying that's not what it is your policy. You have to read the policy. Whatever this company tells you, don't waste your money on a home warranty with them. They fight everything and don't want to pay for anything. It's so frustrating and not worth the time and effort.

Our dishwasher broke and needed to be replaced. The technician also recommended replacement. The representative called and offered 246 dollars for a replacement. The cheapest dishwasher I could find was 424 dollars. I also had to pay for installation and removal of the old unit. I talked to a manager, and she stated they only offer what they could get a unit for at wholesale price, but normal everyday citizens cannot buy items at wholesale price. They should either provide the replacement unit (with installation) or provide the funds necessary to purchase a unit at retail price. I even purchased a unit on clearance, and could not find one for the 246 dollars they offered me. The manager I spoke to would not even budge at all on the amount she would offer me.

Scheduling the appointment was very easy (thanks Keisha) - the technicians checked the AC and did a quick and efficient fix. The whole process went smoothly.

Serious inconsistencies in quoting pricing and then not honoring the quoted price. No response to legitimate concerns and questions about the matter. No attempt to have the sales department and the actual claims department work in coordination to satisfy the concerns as elevated. Simply no proactive customer service, a complete unwillingness to "bend" the rules. The response, if any, to our questions was "that's what the contract says". Even when pending renewal, sales was offering "great" things and claims was making no effort to work with us. No way we will renew.

I just started as a new customer! Was treated with respect and everything was explained to me! I’m waiting for the contract so I can check what’s going on.

CHW would not pay for an additional part that was suggested by the manufacturer to properly fix the problem. When I asked the adjuster if it fails again, will CHW replace the original part, she said no. So I had to pay for the suggested part out of pocket.

TERRIBLE company to work with. I do not recommend. I am utterly disappointed with the abysmal service provided by Choice Home Warranty. After years of faithfully paying premiums for their supposed coverage, I was appalled to find out that they refused to honor their end of the bargain when my 13-year-old AC unit, experiencing normal wear and tear, required repair. Their staff have been incredibly difficult to deal with, displaying a blatant disregard for the terms outlined in their contract. Despite the clear inclusion of coverage for wear and tear in the agreement, they callously denied my claim, citing the unit's age as a reason for refusal. Their excuse that the unit "predates life expectancy" is nothing short of absurd. After all, isn't ensuring coverage for such circumstances the very reason one invests in a warranty in the first place? It's ludicrous that they would use this as grounds for denial, effectively rendering the warranty useless when it matters most. Moreover, their insistence on attributing the malfunction to "catastrophic or abnormal events" is baseless and unsupported. The technician they dispatched to assess the situation even confirmed that the issue was indeed due to normal wear and tear, with no evidence of debris or rust within the unit. Yet, despite this professional evaluation, Choice Home Warranty shamelessly disregarded the technician's findings and opted to deny my claim regardless. This level of incompetence and blatant disregard for customer satisfaction is absolutely unacceptable. I trusted Choice Home Warranty to provide the coverage they promised, only to be met with nothing but excuses and evasion when I needed it most. Save yourself the headache and avoid this company at all costs. They are nothing but a scam, exploiting hardworking individuals who rely on their supposed protection, only to leave them high and dry when they need assistance. Shame on Choice Home Warranty for their disgraceful conduct.

I have nothing good to say about this company. I've been waiting to get my hot water heater replaced since January 4, ****. The last time that I was able to actually speak to my case manager was on January 15th. I've been calling and emailing them in reference to getting this taken care of. They did have a plumber from Blue Mountain Plumbing come out on Janaury 8th that didn't do anything but take my $85. I explained to him that the hotwater heater had to be replaced because the bolt that the heating element screws into had broke. Mind you this I'm no plumber but that was my assumption based on what I saw and what another plumbing company said. This plumber didn't even look at the hot water heater and just put in a request for it to be replaced. After this happened I called Choice Home Warranty to report what had happened because I could've told him anything. They said I would need to speak with my case manager and they set up a call for me to speak with her on January 15th. Prior to speaking with my case manager they approved the claim but Blue Mountain had also added $1000 worth of fees that I was supposed to pay. After speaking with my case manager on January 15th I informed her I wasn't going to pay $1000 out my pocket to a company that didn't even look and see what needed to be repaired. I explained to her the other company said the repairs should cost about $300 plus the cost of the hot water heater which Choice Home Warranty was supposed to pay for. She told me to call Blue Mountain which I did and explained to them what happened. They said they would call and speak to my case worker but they could never get in touch with her. After calling her on several occasions to no avail I decided to email her. I still hadn't gotten a response, so I decided to get the hot water heater repaired myself because I couldn't be without hot water any longer. I called Choice Home Warranty today and they told me they would only give me $200 out of the $850 I spent.

Major letdown: 4 claims- CHW completed none of them. I ended up getting some repairs done at my own cost as the reimbursement process is worse than getting a bank loan with a 400-credit score. My out of pocket was significantly higher than it would have been had the company been as reliable as it was when I enrolled in 2018. The outsourcing of customer service people appears to be a ploy to confuse rather than help. Based on earlier good service I renewed this year for an extended time and the sales rep assured me he would be available if I had issues (that was a joke). I may be wrong but I feel I would have been better of withe number 2 or 3 listed home warranty company. Unless my issues are regional, I would recommend another company and ask hard questions along with a list of contractors used in your area.

We had a hot water heater fail , called CHW to file a claim , they said 24-48 hours someone would get ahold of us for a appt , never once did they respond back , after 48 hours & no hot water we called , the same speel they read to you about waiting , after 5 days & still no one contacted us we asked if we could get our own plumber in town since they couldn’t find anyone , finally got a email for us to find our own , our plumber showed up next day on a Tuesday / we called Thursday to file this claim , while our plumber was here , we got the pictures , serial & model numbers to submit, I was having trouble with this , so called customer service for help , she said not to use website in email go directly to website , I asked her to help me , she told me to fill out steps & submit , I submitted , it disappeared so I thought we’re all set except I was supposed to get a code first for approval , she didn’t say anything about make sure you get your code ( that’s why I called , for help) a hour later CHW denied my claim which was $1495.00 saying I didn’t get the code , well I called for help , they never once got back with us on a claim until we pushed them into getting a reimbursement claim for us to use , we got ahold of BBB & they were no help to us either , I feel they should have compensated some since we sat here 5 days with no hot water , but they stick to every word in contract except the 24-48 hours to find a repair man , then it’s “ sorry about your luck” When this contact is up , I will find a home warranty that pays your claim or at least works with the customer, this amount we paid was unacceptable since we had coverage & no customer service …..

The technician was great, however I am very upset with Choice Warranty. When I made the claim and said what it was for, you should have responded "We don't cover that item as per your contract/policy." Instead you authorized and sent out a technician for whom I had to pay $75.00 only to have you deny the claim by saying that the light fixtures on the outside of the house, attached to the wall weren't covered. I should have been denied at the outset! So I was set up and had to pay $75 when you knew that you would say "no." That felt like a "Bait and Switch." It wasn't the technician's fault, because he was caught in the middle.

The warranty is worth having when needed. Except when a request for the same repair is completed with problem happening again. After 3 calls for same repair, replacement should be considered instead of continuing repair.
