It is a good idea, with reservations. Service/repairs take much longer to resolve than if you were scheduling the repair. Also, the customer has little or no choice in the actual repair decision.

I am not happy with what was offered to "replace my dishwasher " it is $125 less than I can buy one for. Then I have to pay for delivery and installation. You advertise that you will replace if you cannot fix. You should advertise that you will provide 1/2 of what it costs to replace. And on top of all that, I cannot get my claim manager to return my call. I have called her 4 times in the last 3 days and left messages. I spoke with her once and since then I continue to get voice mail and I leave messages with my name, phone number, and claim number, but NO ONE is calling me back. I have planned on adding a second location to my policy, but instead I will not be renewing when my contract is up. I am lloking for a new warranty company

I like the low monthly rate and the relatively low service fees. I also like the quick response to claims. I dislike that they seem to try their best to not cover anything. We don’t feel the coverage and customer service has been satisfactory…but maybe we’re getting what we pay for. Technicians have told us they hate dealing with them also. I also dislike being told the appointment time instead of setting it up with the technician myself. We honestly plan to switch companies in the near future. Possibly pay a little more but for better coverage.

The shut off valve to my ice maker snapped when I tried to turn it off, I called choice homewarranty and they arranged for a plumber to came out, he submitted the claim and of course choice home warranty denied the claim! This of course is the 2nd claim they have denied Is stating due to corrosion on the shut off valve. Is this not why we have home warranty for such things... I asked to speak to a supervisor and had to call multiple times, Finally spoke to a supervisor. She of course said due to corrosion on the shut off valve and it is not covered. I asked her why do I even have home warranty with you people? And her reply was and I quote. "We have paid out a lot more in repairs then you have paid for your policy" I kid you not... This is why they are not paying on claims people... All I hear is excuses!!!

Do not buy a Choice Home Warranty! I had a warranty on my home for 3 years with them. Had a couple claims with moderate success. But then my AC went out. First, the company they connected me with rescheduled 3x. I finally got fed up as it was in the 80s-90s and my 80 yr old mother in law was staying with us. So, I asked Choice to find a new company. They "did". Only to find out that on the day of the appointment (a week later) that the company they "hired" had never even been contacted by Choice. Nor did they even accept Choice Warranty. So, Choice "hired" a 3rd company. The company was a "small appliance repair" company (think Dishwashers, Microwaves, etc.). They were not an HVAC company. Plus, their Better Business Bureau rating was an F. I told Choice that I was not going to let a contractor like that into my home. So, they "hired" a 4th company. This time I called the company to confirm. Guess what? They too had not heard from Choice and did not accept Choice Warranty. So... finally, I gave up and they said I could hire my own contractor. So, I did. They came out the next day and fixed it. The 3 lb system was low about 1lb of freon. Somewhere there was a tiny leak I guess. The contractor called Choice while here to get approval, but Choice takes 24 hours to approve these. So, I had to pay the contractor $500 to fix it and HOPE that Choice paid me back. Guess What? Choice declined the claim. Their reason: They stated that they don't cover "rust". This is lame, because probably every single metal home equipment has some kind of rust if its many years old in Ohio. Plus, the contractor did not state that rust was the issue. There is no visible rust. And, we did not have the line inspected (choice won't pay for that either and it's $1k to do). Net Net: Choice cost me about a month without AC and countless hours on the phone only to leave me with the bill and not pay the claim. Arbitration: Yep. Tried that. Sent letters, called, emailed. That is a farce. Their "arbitration" is a call with their own approval/denial people. There is no unbiased 3rd party that you sit down with to mediate a fair solution. Finally reported them with the State Attorney General (to no avail). Bonus: They still try to contact me to this day to try to get me to renew: Fat Chance!! In my opinion, Choice is fraudulent at best and a scam at worst. Don't waste your money!

Coverage with this warranty is ridiculous. I was denied one claim because the damage was found to be due to “basic wear and tear” and then denied another because it was “NOT due to basic wear and tear.” Then when they do decide to cover an item the amount they give is a joke. It’s not even enough to cover the cost of a new item and it takes 30 days to get your funds.

Most of the parts have been delivered, still waiting on 1 more part before technician can come back to repair my washing machine. Sears is taking forever to find the last part. The technician who came seemed to be competent and thorough, I would like him to come back to finish the job.

Choice Home Warranty (CHW) is a waste of money. I was persuaded to buy a warranty plan for $1960 with service call fee of $65. Then, it is absolutely impossible to get anything repaired or replaced if it costs more than the $65 fee. Their technicians come not trying to diagnose/repair anything, but just collecting the $65 fee; and write a "report" for CHW. Then, CHW tries all means to decline any repair or replacement claims. CHW salesman promised that I could cancel the plan if not satisfied and get refunded for the unused premium. But, canceling is OK, refunding impossible. Recently, my water heater is leaking. CHW technician came not trying to find the leaking part, but asking $65 in cash or check. He said he doesn't accept credit card because many people dispute his charge. Then, CHW tries to decline my claim without finding the leaking part to determine whether it is covered or not. Also, be careful with CHW contract which excludes many major parts. So, I paid CHW $1960 premium and $65 call fee for nothing. I am working with Georgia Consumer Protection and a law firm to fight this scam.

Worse home warrant company I have ever used in my home ownership time. I couldn't get help with my questions during the year. So when my millions of calls to renew came in, I told everyone that called that I was not renewing, and I was re- newed anyways, because I ignored an email that they sent. Now the customer service guy thanked me for my payment, cancelled my policy with no refund and wished me a good day. I have contacted my bank and they said that the can help me dispute the charge as long as I prove that I did not agree to re-new. Now I have to work on getting letters/affidavits to fight this. So the only thing amazing about this company is that they try to get away with this kind of poor customer service.

Extremely disappointed with the service provided by Choice Home Warranty Company. I submitted a claim after my built-in double wall went out on Sat, Oct 9th. After 2 weeks and 2 techs, it was determined that my appliance would be replaced. So on Oct 21, CHW offered us a Lowe’s gift card in the amount of $667, which I thought was very low for a that type of appliance. So, I immediately went to Lowe’s website and did some research. For a similar type of oven (27in, double wall, w/ convection) prices start at $3K!! So, of course I appealed that amount. The policy clearly states that CHW is responsible for installing a system with similar features, capabilities, capacity, and function. After, speaking with my claims appeal agent, I was notified that they were increasing the offer to $1081!! That’s an improvement, but still nowhere near what it costs to replace my unit! So, I spoke with the claims agent and she said the policy states that “similar” doesn’t mean the same and they can replace my unit with something w/ lesser capability and they also have the right to offer cash in an amount not equal to retail. I asked how did they come up with $1K and she said that’s what CHW would pay for the appliance. As a customer, I should have access to that pricing! If you’re not going to give me full retail or anything remotely close to retail to replace my appliance, then why are you giving me a Lowe’s gift card, thereby forcing me to go to Lowe’s! Instead, you should give a check and let me try and find an appliance on my own! I’ve used another home warranty company before and when they replaced my appliance, they gave me a choice of over 20 appliances to choose from! I reluctantly accepted the final offer because we do not have an oven and the holiday season is fast approaching. Hopefully, we can find something and get it installed in time. I will not be renewing my warranty coverage in January!

During my last warranty period, I had to replace both my A/C units of which Choice paid ). They managed to come up with some BS excuse of why neither of them were covered. Even after the technician refuted their reasoning. I am only renewing due to the supposed enhancements made to their coverages. If Choice's protection has not improved I will be cancelling, and demanding my money back.

Basically, because of the limitations set by choice home warranty I paid a technician $65, to screw in the freezer handle even though the technician says the freezer needs a new door. Choice home warranty will not put a foot on the freezer because they are cheap. My next plan is to not renew my contract since I paid almost $1200 for the contract and the door is only $400.

Depending on the problem CHW can be very good or very bad. Example is a recent problem with my gas top range. I submitted the claim on a Saturday and had an appointment on a Monday. On the other hand, I had an issue with my pool and it took months to try and find a tech. I finally had to find one myself and they reimbursed me

This tech was great. He wore a mask. I'm tired of giving masks. The norm should be to wear it unless the client tells you not to. I have had SO many issues w/ CHW. Starting w/ the 1st plumber sent. He was rude & ignorant. Maybe he's an apprentice? To the dishwasher that took nearly 2.5 months to repair. Asking for a manager to call back.... doesn't happen. Are they above talking to customers? That could explain why customer service reps are rude & don't answer the questions asked. Also, payment should be collected before a service person shows up. Some take checks, some take credit cards & charge you, some take cash. It should be the same payment method across the board & I shouldn't have to pay extra if I use a credit card.

I have submitted a few major claims with Choice Home Warranty and each time the claim was denied. I had to pay out of my pocket to replace one of my Air conditioning /Heater units after Choice Home Warranty would not honor my contract. I am currently having issues with my second unit. I submitted the claim and received a denial letter almost immediately. The repairman said the damage was caused by normal wear and tear but Choice Home Warranty decided that it was abnormal wear and tear and denied the claim. I need heat!!! Winter is coming and my unit needs to be repaired. I used a electric fireplace last winter and a space heater. I do not want to do that again this winter. It is sad you pay to protect yourself and you end up needing protection from the company you hired to protect you!!!!

Lousy !!!!wouldn't cover a broken under the house water line to the refrigerator. Said it caused by normal ware and tare .I guess the people living under the house in the crawl space did it ,seeing that the line was 26 years old. I eventually went to Lowes got the shark bite and repaired it for under $10. What do they ever cover???? Remember if you're refrigerator has a freon leak not covered. Don't cover leaks.l

I would give 0 star if possible! One star is very high for such a useless CHW. I had issue with washer and submitted claim 9/28 and after 4 weeks finally one technician came ( technicians just not showed up to their set appointments and CHW did nothing beside assigning new tech!) After diagnosis, two parts needed to be replace and instead they gave me buy out option for $540….. for a washer that is worth of $1200 ( 2015 LG front door)….. very shame after 5 weeks and being on phone for many hours with the CHW…. The manager said this is the final option to accept $540….. they are not repaired nor giving me close purchase credit to buy out! At this point this Inaurance is useless…… i will cancel all the policies i have and also tell all my family members and friends to cancel their because this is useless i can use the insurance fund towards fixing appliance or call local technicians to come and fix if needed! My point is DO NOT get this insurance…. It is waste of money and time!!!!!

This company should be banned. Please do not allow the other positive fake reviews fool you. This company is a scam. The government needs to crack down on Home Warranty companies who all run the same scam. Here's how it works. They make you pay for the first 30 days and offer you free cancelation within these 30 days but you cannot use the warranty within the 30 days. Then after 30 days you can use the warranty but they are going to deny your claim. Then once you cancel they are going to charge you a cancelation fee and charge you a one month service agreement. No other business in the country works like this. This is the equivalent of buying a brand new car and the dealership saying that you can return the car for free within 30 days but you cannot drive the car within these 30 days. Then on the 31st day you are finally able to drive the car and you realize it does not crank. The dealership then tells you that they will have to charge you a return fee and a one month service fee. How is this fair or legal. I am looking into a class action lawsuit against the entire Home Warranty industry because this is not fair and should not be legal.

Compressor went out on our French 4 door Samsung fridge and technician sent repair to choice along with pic n choice came back with offer to replace at $734 along with Lowe’s gift card which would take 30 days to arrive for a single door fridge which we don’t have. I told choice that we didn’t have single door fridge and to quote with correct fridge type but the claims rep was rude and refuse to help or answer my ques. I paid $2200 and these types of refrigerators start at $2500. Contract says tht they will pay up to $3k on a claim. I requested Mgr and was told tht I had to schedule a call and would take 6 days for smbdy to call me. In the meantime, I have no fridge, the food went bad and I can’t cook for my family. How am I supposed to feed my kids before school. To quote the wrong fridge type and to be told to wait 6 days for a Mgr to call me is a disgrace. To wait 30 days fora Lowe’s gift card is dead wrong especially when contract says tht they will replace fast. Nobody can go a month or a week without a refrigerator. Who do you think can live and feed your family or go without a refrigerator. This is the lowest if the low and they don’t care. Please research this company before you decide to purchase their warranty. They don’t care about their customers. There’s better companies out there that offer so much more and they care about their customers

Initially Choice seemed like a great deal but in the end you get what you pay for. We had a contractor come out to check on our water heater when it stopped producing hot water. They replaced a part and then two weeks later the water heater burst. When the contractor came back out they admitted fault and expected Choice to cover at least a portion of the repairs. They did not cover any of it. What is the point of a home warranty if it doesn’t cover things they say they cover? On top of that when it came closer to renewal time they kept calling me multiple times per day from different numbers. I have had to block them over and over again. They also emailed and texted me. When I replied to them with my concerns about this harassment and poor treatment they ignore it. They then proceed to keep calling. They also tried to auto renew me without me first approving it. At the time I write this review my warranty has expired and I’m with a different company. But the calls still keep coming. Avoid at all costs!

They are very unprofessional, very bad and rude employees as well. I will request to everyone please don’t take any service from choice home Warrenty and tell your friends don’t buy any services from these cheaters. Also please write bad reviews so that others will not come in this net and stuck with these cheaters they will convince to take three years policy and take your chunk of money in advance so that you can’t do anything.

I have never in my life wrote a bad review but I feel that I must write one for this to warn people. I had my home warranty with them for over a year. My AC stopped working and I called them and they sent out an expert to come look at it and he said that nothing was wrong with it and that it was just normal wear and tear and he then said they would pay for a new one since they could not fix it. Well he then summitted this to their office and they denied it and said that they think it was water damage that messed it up instead of normal wear and tear like the expert said. They said it doesn't matter what their expert says, the final decision comes to their office. so they could not fix it or replace it and they said I would have to figure it out myself. By the way, I also had multiple experts from other companies come and look at it as well and all of them have stated that there is no water damage to the AC unit. They are truly not treating people right and its very disappointing

The technicians are great. Unfortunately the warranty is pretty worthless as far as ceiling fans are concerned. My living room ceiling fan could not be repaired and needed replacement. The warranty would either provide a strictly base model or $60 towards a purchase of a replacement. Does not sound like a replacement to me.

I read your contract and saw too many loop holes to wiggle out. Tried to cancel was referred to cancelation dept.. The first man lied to me saying I was locked in and could not cancel. The next four when is said I was going to cancel they hung up on me. I had to send a certified letter to cancel. This is a good reason not to do business with this company.

Had some great service when problem fixed on first visit but have had some bad service when I have had to wait too long for a tech or for a part ordered and then wait for tech to return. Choice likes to repeatedly put a bandaid on the problem rather than a long lasting repair.

I have had a claim open for my in ground pool pump leak. The first vendor came in late April and did shoddy work which started leaking worse after 30 days. Called him and he refused to come back without a new claim. Now they still cannot find another vendor willing to undo the damage their first vendor caused. I keep getting told yo find my own person and do the reimbursement . Sure, then I have wait 30 days to be paid. Be very cautious with Choice

Ok, so let’s talk about Choice Home Warranty. You know how HR departments are there to protect the company and not the employees? The same goes for home warranty companies. The vendors (service technicians) are there to protect the home warranty company from paying out claims, not repair your failing equipment. From the moment something breaks, you file a claim and then you’re completely shut out of the process as it unfolds. And you’ll hear the two P words a lot from the home warranty company employees: process & policy. Once you make your claim, you’ll likely get an approval email saying everything is covered. They will set up an appointment for a vendor to come out and look at your problem and you’ll pay the $65 (or whatever fee is in your contract). That vendor/service technician will come inspect the faulty equipment/problem and then write a report for the home warranty company that you’ll never be allowed to see, even if you ask, and then the home warranty company will leave you sitting for days while this report filters its way through the approval process. That report will be the basis for overturning the approved claim and you’ll be left with a denial of coverage. (That prior approval message will magically disappear from the claim thread on their website.) Even though the problem might be glaringly obvious, even though you might be able to see it, touch it, take pictures of it, that technician report will state that the problem resides in a component that is explicitly excluded in your contract. At least according to Choice Home Warranty. If you’re able to obtain a copy of the report directly from the service technician, it will be three sentences long and won’t mention anything in the report that the denial will be based on. If you’re unfortunate enough to have the faulty component be something akin to your air conditioning, as was my experience, you’ll be left sitting in the heat for weeks while all of this plays out. The vendor is not directly reachable; you’ll be routed through a call center. They will close the work order without repairing the problem once they submit their report. And at that point, they will deny any subsequent visits until the home warranty company ultimately denies the claim. They’ll then call you with a estimate for the repair to be paid for out of your own pocket. To be clear, this estimate is for a component that is not broken, nor is it the source of the problem. It’s to repair the component that will be the reason for claim denial. At no point in their process, despite how many times you call, leave comments on the claim, ask questions to the home warranty company, will you ever receive any answers or clarifications or be allowed to dispute the technician report. If you choose to leave comments or questions on the claim through their website, understand that the agents will only respond with pre-formatted/canned messages that don’t address anything that you’ll say. The reply will always be exactly this: “Thank you for your email. We apologize for the overall experience. [Insert denial message that was previously emailed to you.]” Per their policy, you have to wait for the claim to be completely denied before they’ll give you access to speak to a manager. At this point you can schedule a 15 minute conversation with an assigned manager to your claim. That manager will know nothing about your claim when you speak to them, as they do not review anything pertaining to your situation prior to the call. And if you speak to Lori J, she will repeatedly talk over you, fail to listen to anything you say, tell you that you are not a qualified technician so you’re unable to dispute the technician report, and inform you that you are bound by their processes. The solution they will provide you is for you to pay out of pocket for an assessment by a certified technician, submit the findings to the home warranty claims department, and wait through the process of being approved or rejected again. Expect this total time investment to come in at around 3 weeks. By this point, you’ll probably either choose to pay to have the broken item repaired yourself or learn to live without it. Which is what this process is designed to do. At no point are any of the employees of the home warranty company going to help you, make any exceptions to their policies (which you’re not allowed to see), or provide you assistance in disputing or correcting the misdiagnosis of your failing equipment. If you ask questions or take exception to anything above, they’ll tell you, “that’s the process” or “that’s our policy.” That’s all they are authorized to say. And there’s nobody above the case manager that you are assigned that you’ll be allowed to speak with. You can’t even change case managers, not that it would do any good. tl;dr - It's a scam.

The 3 stars is based on the claim denial (that line/set of lines about broken/missing parts on sinks, tubs or faucets in the warranty agreement needs to be changed. ), not towards Clear Water Group.
