Consolidated Credit is one of the oldest names in the industry, having accumulated nearly 30 years in business. During that time, it has built a reputation for total professionalism, offering CPFC-certified debt counselors and free debt consultations for potential clients.

Unlike debt consolidation companies offering personal loans, Consolidated Credit is a credit counseling agency. The company’s certified credit counselors perform a free evaluation to help determine the best debt relief option for each potential client.

Consolidated Credit counselors conduct a counseling sesion where they review the client’s current financial situation, credit report (credit history and credit score), and budget. This first credit counseling session can provide debt management strategies (e.g. making more than the minimum payments on your credit cards), budget advice, and ideas to improve bad credit and eliminate debt.

If a debt management plan is the best solution, the company will design a repayment plan to fit the unique needs of the client. A debt management program is a great alternative to debt settlement and debt consolidation loans while providing affordable monthly payments.

The customization of Consolidated Credit means that each client’s specific needs will be addressed and clients are helped in meaningful ways.

Consolidated Credit Cost

Many consolidation companies charge an enrollment fee and a monthly fee for their services. Consolidated Credit charges an upfront fee of $0 to $49 — this is a one-time, account set-up fee. Consolidated Credit also charges a monthly fee of between $0 and $9 depending upon debt amounts, number of creditors, state regulations and budget constraints.

Consolidated Credit also bases its monthly fees on what a client can afford. Some clients may qualify to pay no monthly fee.

Debt management is a government-regulated industry. As a result, most companies charge similar prices, though fees vary by state. Consolidated Credit is no different.

The interest rates that Consolidated Credit can arrange with lenders, including credit card companies, are less regulated. The company works with creditors to help clients achieve the best possible deal.

The company claims to get credit card interest rates down to an average of 0–11 percent APR — one of the lowest rates in the industry. These lower rates equate to a smaller overall payment for credit card debt and less interest.

Available to All

Each state has its own unique debt consolidation rules. For this reason, not all consolidation companies have their services available nationwide.

Consolidated Credit follows the state laws in every state, and its counseling services are available to people struggling with unsecured debt in every U.S. state. Consolidated Credit works to help people understand the best ways to manage their debt and what their consolidation options are.

What types of debt can someone include in a debt management program?

A debt management program is meant primarily to pay off high-interest rate credit card debt. One of the primary benefits of working with a nonprofit credit counseling agency is that it works with a client’s creditors to reduce or eliminate interest charges applied to the debt. That’s most beneficial with high-interest rate credit card balances. However, it may be possible to include other types of debt, including unsecured personal loans, medical bills, collection accounts, and payday loans.

Which credit cards can be included?

Consolidated Credit works with all major credit card companies, as well as major retailers, banks, and credit unions. In total, the company has established relationships with over 1,600 creditors. A consumer can include general-purpose credit cards, charge cards, gas cards, reward cards, and store cards in the program. Consumers are not required to enroll all their cards in the program. If a client decides to leave a card out, they can add it later during the program.

Is this a loan?

No. A debt management program is like a professionally supported repayment plan. The client still owes their original creditors when they enroll. Clients make one payment to Consolidated Credit each month and that payment gets distributed to their creditors every month on schedule.

Does this credit counseling service pay off credit cards?

Credit cards will be paid-in-full as a client completes the program. However, the credit counseling service itself does not pay off the individual’s credit cards for them. As a client makes monthly payments, Consolidated Credit disburses the funds to creditors on an agreed schedule. As a client makes payments to Consolidated Credit, the balances on their credit cards will decrease over time. Individuals can monitor monthly credit card statements and see the balances getting paid off. These payments will also be noted in the payment history of each account on the consumer’s credit report.

What are the fees?

Receiving a debt and budget evaluation from a certified credit counselor is always free. Consumers can talk to a qualified professional about their situation and ask questions to understand their options for relief. If someone qualifies for a debt management program, there is a one-time setup fee and a small monthly fee rolled into the program payments. Fees for debt management programs are set based on the total debt, budget, and the state where a client lives. They are capped at $79 nationwide, and the average client pays $49.

How does this program affect someone’s credit?

Enrolling in a debt management program does not generate any negative items in a consumer’s credit report. It helps avoid the 7-year to 10-year credit report penalty that you see with solutions like debt settlement and bankruptcy. For most people, completing the program has a positive or neutral credit score effect. While a person is enrolled, they generate positive credit history on all the accounts included in the program. Creditors will generally bring delinquent accounts current once the client makes three payments.

How is the interest rate determined?

When someone enrolls in a debt management program, Consolidated Credit works with each creditor to reduce or eliminate the APR applied to their account balances. On average, rates are reduced to between 0%–11%. This is often much lower than what a client would be able to negotiate with a credit card company if they contacted them individually.

Is this different from debt settlement?

Yes. A debt management program works by paying back everything that someone owes at a reduced interest rate. The principal is paid in full. By contrast, debt settlement only repays a percentage of the principal. Debt settlement also creates negative items in a consumer’s credit report that remain for seven years from the date the remaining balance is discharged. Each account settled will be noted in the consumer’s credit report. A debt management program does not generate any negative items. The payment structure is also very different. While a consumer may make monthly payments on a debt settlement program, those payments are placed into an escrow account to generate the funds necessary to make settlement offers. Creditors are not paid each month, which can lead to missed payments and even greater damage to the consumer’s credit.

What happens if someone can’t make the payments?

We do our best to remain flexible and understand some months there may be an emergency expense or unexpected bills. In these cases we try to delay the payment or communicate with your creditors to help you skip that month. A debt management program is 100% voluntary. If a client drops out of the program, all payments made up to that point will still be credited to their accounts. However, creditors may choose to restore the previous interest rate and reapply any penalties that were stopped when the person enrolled.

Can someone still get a loan (mortgage/auto) while enrolled?

Yes. A debt management program does not prevent someone from getting loans while they are enrolled in the program and paying off debt. It is possible to get approved for loans like a mortgage or an auto loan while enrolled, so there is no need for life to be put on hold while someone is paying off their debt. A client will not be able to get new credit cards while enrolled.

I joined this program thru my credit union , This program delivered . they are helping me and my money is going directly to my credit cards. this program got a low interest rate on my credit cards and I have three years to pay all off. This company is well organized and you can actually observe the chart and see where your money is going . the company only charged me forty nine dollars monthly fee . all was rolled with the credit card payments , and it is worth it. Well at first they were great calculating my credit cards & giving me a monthly total and they had me sign a contract but then little by little things began to pop up like oh sorry this card won't deal with us or sorry this card wants more money so my original monthly payment that was so great at the beginning turned out not to be so great. My suggestion is to have your co. deal with all the amounts before they have you sign a contract so you exactly what your payments are. My payments have gone up like 5 different times & there are still credit cards that I have to pay on my own

Consolidated Credit Solutions really helped me out during a low point in my life. I couldn't keep up with all 3 cards and their interest it just felt like I didn't make any progress. Through CCS, i was able to just make 1 payment and they were able to negotiate with my creditors for a lower Apr which really helped in making a dent towards those balances. I have tried getting loans to help pay them off but because of my low credit score(because of the debt), I did not qualify for them. Consolidated Credit Solutions provides me with many opportunities and is helping me get back on track with life. I am back in school and plan to save for a house in the future and this gives me the opportunity to be able to do that.

I've been working with this company since August. The 1st conversation was amazing they were extremely helpful. Being that im a worry wart I did call the next couple of months cause I felt the communication wasnt there, but they were doing everything right. Credit One is a hassle to deal with and that was my only issue. Even tho I wasn't late, I ended up paying them for a couple months xtra on top of credit solutions payment until they finalized everything. This was an issue with credit one not credit solutions. If you have credit one and want to consolidate them, just keep an eye for a few months to make sure they are holding out on what they bargained with.

Before I received help from Consolidated Credit Solutions I was swimming in high interest debt. I was late on a few of my cards because I couldn't pay the 500 dollars in minimum payments per month. Because of this I was receiving calls from collection companies daily. Most other large lenders wouldn't give me a good deal on any debt consolidation loans. Consolidated Credit Solutions helped negotiate my interest rates on my credit cards to a manageable rate, and with their monthly payment plan I was able to pay off my debt in 3 years. They even let me keep one of my cards open for emergencies. I couldn't be happier with the outcome because my credit score didn't take a hit by having them negotiate for me, on the contrary it helped it dramatically. Having no missed payments for 3 years on my cards put me in the position to buy a house! Which I feel should be the goal when it comes to credit scores. I called to see if consolidation would be a good idea for my debt situation. I several thousand dollars in credit card debt. The counselor I spoke with was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. I was concerned about if there would be a high sales pressure pitch, but there was none, to my great surprise and amazement. Instead, he reviewed my situation, pulled a soft credit report (that would not go against my credit score), and recommended that I not consolidate, since my credit card APRs were well below what they were offering in their consolidation rate. (I have a 720 credit score, since I have no missed payments). He even recommended that I get my balances below 50% of each credit line, and then I could approach a credit union (better rate) again and have a much greater chance of getting a consolidation loan. He also explained the difference between a consolidation loan and other competing debt management products, like home equity line of credit versus home equity loan. If all of their counselors are like him, I would recommend them highly!

I was at my very last rung on the ladder and Providence sent me your solicitation. I opened up your email and decided to do this. I entered the program when there was no help in sight with my out of control debt/interest owed to several creditors. Getting set up was very easy and I had someone to help me the whole way. The decision to start was the hardest part, but as soon as I made my first call (and talking out current issues with a professional from Consolidated Credit) I agreed to start a 6 year plan. This plan was based solely on my situation, and not some cookie cutter plan for all. At first the payments were rough because the large amount, but I quickly realized the benefits of a single payment, instead of struggling through a stack of bills all month. Over time the payments became easier. Instead of continuing with ease, I decided to make a larger payment. That took me down to a 5 year program. Feeling confident on my financial decisions really made my life easier. Even though I was paying a very high payment, I knew it was the correct path instead of an uncertain one. I upped my payments twice over the course of the years, and I am writing this now with only a few months left in the program, and will finish in a total of 46 months! I went from being happy with a 6 year debt free program, to being completely debt free more than 2 years ahead of schedule. Consolidated Credit is the only reason I am in the position I am (now I get to decide to travel a bit, or maybe even buy a house). In the 4 years with Consolidated Credit, I never once encountered a person on the phone you could have said "was having a bad day", or in other words, being "grumpy". Every person I ever talked to was able to help me right away, I was never transferred on a call, or put on hold. The most I had to wait was a few minutes, but as soon as I got a person to talk to, that person was able to handle any question or comment I had. I owe next year (2017) to Consolidated Credit, which I am going to spend completely debt free, and have one of the best years of my life. I have already referred multiple people from my family members to friends, and will continue to do so in the future.

Just spoke with Bonita by phone about questions that I had about updating my credit card account balances. She was professional and answered my questions with patience. Her sense of humor was also appreciated. I am so thankful for your service. When I discovered Consolidated Credit I was in a lot of debt and also had a spouse who was unemployed. I felt like I was in a black hole that I would never get out of. Consolidated Credit was highly recommended on the internet by a well know financial magazine and I have not been disappointed!
