The main focus of Synchrony Financial is establishing financial relationships between select sellers and buyers. After studying businesses with private label credit cards, like Walmart and Amazon, Synchrony Financial has been able to perfect their services and offerings, working with businesses and retailers to provide customers with hassle-free credit cards.

Instead of using Synchrony Financial's cards to purchase big ticket items, they are used to finance small purchases and future purchases, based on customer's available credit. Synchrony finances those purchases through Synchrony Bank, insured through the FDIC which means that your money is protected and that it is a safe bank.

Online Help

Synchrony Financial has a very helpful website. There is relevant information on it for everyone they work with. For businesses, Synchrony offers services through their business center, through which merchants can approve new applicants or access established accounts. The business center is also where credit limit increases are processed and payment options are selected. Using data from consumer purchasing patterns, merchants can develop sales that attract their customers.

For customers with personal accounts, Synchrony has a tool that allows you to compare Synchrony's annual percentage yield (APY) rates compared to dozens of other U.S. based banks. You can look at how much interest your money would make in a high-yield savings account, a money market account, or a certificate of deposit (CD). This tool allows you to see which rate will be the best according to the number of months you plan to have your money in the account.

For any of Synchrony Bank's accounts, you can manage your money directly from the Synchrony mobile app.

High Yield Savings Account

The high yield savings account from Synchrony Bank offers an interest rate of 2.15 percent APY no matter the balance in your account. This is one of the best interest rates among online savings accounts.

There is no minimum balance and no minimum deposit to start your account, and consumers can access their cash online, by phone, or via ATM. However, this account does not allow checking (writing checks).

Certificates of Deposit (CDs)

Certificates of deposit (CDs) with Synchrony Bank require a $2,000 minimum deposit. CD terms range from 3-60 months, and a three month CD will earn a 0.75 percent APY - the longer the CD (the more months), the higher the APY. A 60 month CD will earn 2.80 percent APY. After the minimum deposit of $2,000, your interest rate does not increase based on your deposit amount.

Synchrony Bank's CD rates are competitive compared to other banks, and individual retirement account (IRA) CDs are also available, an offering that is not true of all online banks.

Money Market Accounts

A money market account with Synchrony will earn a 1.20 percent APY. This account has no minimum balance, no minimum opening deposit, and no monthly service fees. It provides greater access to and flexibility with your money than Synchrony's savings accounts. With this account, you can write checks and make cash withdrawals online, by phone, or via ATM.

A money market account is a mix between a checking account and a savings account, and is a great option for when you want to earn interest on your cash, but don't want to tie up all your money. A retirement account option, an IRA Money Market Account is also available. Due to federal regulations, you can only make six withdrawals or transfers per month from a money market account.

The Bad

  • Issues with fraudulent activity
  • Inaccurate Statements
  • Customer service

Issues with Fraudulent Activity

Even though Synchrony Financial offers very attractive products to their customers, there is a pattern of reviews complaining about fraudulent activity.

Some customers report that they were overcharged interest in their credit card accounts. This usually happened to customers who were ending a purchase and had only one payment left to make. Upon making a payment or receiving a statement, they found that they were charged additional interest for the entire amount of the purchase or far more than what was owed.

Inaccurate Statements

Some customers have received inaccurate bank and credit card statements. This of course would result in an accusation that a customer owed more money than they actually did. One review stated that a phone call was received about a "missed payment". When the customer proved to them that he had made the payment, they sent him a letter in which they acknowledged the payment, but the ending balance on the letter did not show the deduction of that payment.

There have also been scenarios in which accounts were cancelled without permission or prior notice, especially when there had been a time period of inactivity. These accounts were not delinquent and the period of inactivity was not very long.

Customer Service

Synchrony Financial has many customer reviews that report poor customer service. Common complaints include incorrect addresses and phone numbers on accounts, inability or refusal to return phone calls on unresolved issues, locking customers out of their accounts, being put on hold for extensive periods of time, and no follow up after customer representative states there would be such, in order to reverse clerical errors.

If you pay off your account early, Synchrony Financial may not view this as being in good standing. Instead of receiving a statement to close out the account, several customers state that they were charged additional interest fees, late fees or amounts. The effected clients experienced adverse credit scores and reports. This terrible customer service makes online banking with Synchrony very difficult.

gavel

The Bottom Line

If you choose to work with Synchrony Bank, you can expect reliable online and mobile banking and great interest rates. Synchrony Bank has great interest rates on several of its accounts and multiple ways to withdraw money and contact customer service. However, it has a reputation for overcharging. Customers complain about having to deal with fraud charges. Ironically enough, Synchrony Bank customers who decide to pay their accounts of early might want to retain a lawyer, because instead of maintaining a good credit score, they in fact may be penalized with late fees and a hit to their credit score.

Synchrony Financial looks good on the surface, but is lacking in the areas where it really counts. Customer service is not reliable and many customers have reported difficulties getting in contact with and working with Synchrony's customer service representatives. At one time my credit card for Amazon was issued through synchrony Bank. I paid every single month the entire balance on time. Fast forward ahead to a couple of months ago. I apply for a synchrony Bank card through Verizon and I was rejected. I have a credit score of 820 have never been late on a payment of any sort, yet synchrony tells me their rejection is based off of inconsistent payments in the past. I firmly believe that they refused my card through Verizon because I always paid my bill off on time. The reason I applied for the Verizon card was I would say the decent amount of money when purchasing my new phone plus there was a discount offered each month on my balance, but synchrony screwed that up. Because no one ever answers the phone I sent them a letter and got a response back stating basically we're sorry but we ain't going to give you a credit card. If you have any questions please write us back at the above address. I got a feeling someday there will be a class action lawsuit against them for this kind of behavior.

I took a 12 month no interest loan from Newegg through Synchrony bank. I made 11 payments via direct payment. When the last payment was due, I contacted Syncrhrony to have the last payment made (30 days before it was due). They told me to make the payment via their website. But I told them I could not get into my account because Synchrony had made changes to their system and would not allow me into my account. The Synchrony rep told me this was a problem and that many account holder were having the same problem. She told me that she could take my bank account number and routing number and make the last payment for me. I gave her the info and then forgot about it. Later, I got a notice that the payment was rejected by my bank and that I was being charged $30.00 for the reject. I called my bank and they told me that Synchrony had not tried to debit my account. I then called Synchrony, both by phone and then by chat. After a lot of back and forth, the rep finally said to me (by chat) "As I understand you have a query about the return payment fees charged, I would like to inform you that it was charged due to a payment return as the payment was returned due to mismatch of the bank account number entered at the time of payment. Unfortunately, as this is purely system based, we are unable to remove the fee from our end due to the process limitations even at the manager level as we can work only on an late fee. We apologize for not meeting your expectations at this time." I told the rep that the Synchrony rep wrote my information down wrong and now Synchrony wants me to pay $30 for their mistake. The rep then told me (by chat) "I can understand how frustrating it would be for you. We are sorry for your experience. Since this is automatically charged, we do not have an option to over ride even at the manager level." Inotherwords, Synchrony is not at fault. I am. For paying off my account 30 days early. And by having a rep handle the transaction instead of the normal debit proceedure. The chat rep then said "we suggest you reverify your bank details before sharing it with us. This is insane. I have NEVER heard of anything as stupid as this before. The bank makes a mistake and their customers have to pay for their mistake. If I was Synchrony, I would make mistakes all day long and get rich!

Synchrony Banks practices are borderline criminal I have a Lowe's credit card through synchrony Bank I made a $40. Charge which is now costing me over $100., they're saying my bank account is inactive but that is false I use my bank account on a daily basis... They never mailed me the first statement or letter or gave me a phone call stating they're having trouble debiting my bank account I finally found emails buried in my inbox when I was cleaning it out so I called them and they're trying to say my account was inactive, I also asked them to repeat my account # back to me and it's correct anyways I paid them what I owed on the original balance and told them I remember them doing something similar like this to me before. In the past I've had some type of problem with them I can't quite remember what it was and to me this whole thing feels like a scam. It feels like another way to try to get money out of you every time I call I get some foreign person which sends up a red flag for me right there And why in the world Lowe's would have their credit cards through a scammy ass Bank like synchrony blows my mind

Very poor customer service inaccurate information, rude customer service representatives. They seem to have a little knowledge of their job, which might make them angry and they take it out on clients. Hard to get to your account. They say they offer these services online where you can compare things, but they make it so difficult to get online that you can barely use it. I would rate them very low and I would not work with him on a personal account and if I were to have a business change, I would definitely not recommend them.

This unfortunately is the second time I have to work with Synchrony bank and they still suck. Had to get a new AC this time and they hooked me up with a no interest 12 month card through synchrony bank, which sounded awesome. Did not notify me of an activation fee and when called Synchrony bank it took over a month and me calling multiple times to check status on dispute and still had to pay. bottom line I guess my fault nothing is interest "free" read the FINE print they will get you. Do not recommend them at all for credit card services as the first dispute years ago was from a fradulent card dispute with them. Their customer service is one of the worse.

They got my payment, early. They took the payment from my bank account twice. It has been over 60 days I have been spending all of my free time trying to resolve their errors. First, I had to dispute the THREE attempted charges to my account for ONE payment. For the last two months, synchrony has been illegally demanding that I provide unrelated, personal and confidential information for them to acknowledge that they received my payment. They illegally retaliated for me contacting them over my lost payments, by making false and negative remarks on my credit. They lied and chopped 53 points off my credit score. The ONLY reason I got this card was to improve my credit, and regardless of my credit utilization and on time payments, they hurt my credit with THEIR lack of any accountability whatsoever. I will be pursuing a joint suit and am adamant to sue them for the damage they have inflicted on my well being. I will be pursuing the massive overcharges in undisclosed fees to be recovered in court. I have already paid over $900 on a card with a $300 limit. I haven't spent a thing on it in years, because they closed my account, while they keep slamming false fees on my account. The interest fees they have been charging are not outlined in my signed card agreement whatsoever. In fact it says I would only pay interest if I had made a late payment, which I have not. Comment to join the joint suit against their continued financial fraud and crimes against their clients.

Out of the blue, Synchrony chose to close all my accounts associated them. One account had a zero balance after having paid off a significant sum. Even when they are in error, they WILL NOT REOPEN THE LONG STANDING ACCOUNT. STAY AWAY FROM SYNCHRONY CREDIT!!!

I applied for a Store Credit Card loan in the amount of 300$ just because, hey, no interest for a year and a good way to build my credit up. They dinged my (800 score) credit, then refused my 300$ loan application due to "insufficient income in relation to debt obligations". They asked for my net personal income, then took into account my mortgage (shared with spouse). I make 250 times the loan amount, not counting my spouse's income. I was honestly so dumbfounded I called TU to check with them that nothing was wrong with my accounts. But, hey, now that I've checked reviews online sounds like I dodged a bullet.

One Star is to high! Brand new account, haven't even made 1st payment. They added fee's to the loan which exceed the allowed amount originally given. They then reported to all the credit bureaus that i exceeded my credit limit. Dropped my credit score 50 points!!! Called and got literally nowhere "there is nothing we can do". Deceptive practice and beyond sleazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never again, buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!!

I resent that Synchrony (Lowe's) charges me a monthly fee of $1.99 just for providing me with a one page paper bill. This is chicken sh** and a scam way to squeeze money out of customers. It is an unfortunate stain on Lowes as a company that I actually appreciate. But their affiliation with Synchrony and it's ripoff tactics is a deterrent to spending money at Lowes.

I HAVE HAD AN ACCOUNT WITH JC PENNY CO. FOR 60 YEARS. SINCE PENNY'S SWITCHED TO SYNCHRONY, I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS. THE USUAL LITANY - MISSING STATEMENTS, INTEREST AND LATE FEES ON CHARGES THAT HAVE BEEN PAID ON TIME, ETC. TODAY I SHOPPED AT PENNY'S AND THE CARD WAS DECLINED. I DO NOT LIKE THE IDEA OF CLOSING THE ACCOUNT WITH PENNY'S, BUT I MUST SERIOUSLY CONSIDER IT.

I ordered something from Sam's Club online & opened a new credit card with Synchrony to make this purchase on November 8 2024. Today, December 12 I received a text message to make payment. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION FROM SYNCHRONY REGARDING THIS PAYMENT. They never even sent a credit card. Trying to charge interest and late fees even though I never received a bill. Terrible customer service to fix this issue.

Called Synchrony Bank to payoff my Lowes account and paid the said amount then and there in full. Posted in my bank account 8/30/24 for $1656.43. Then I started getting hounded relentlessly for lack of payment of twenty something dollars which continues to go up. I called to say that I paid in full the amount they told me. Something was said about interest and I said there is no interest on zero. The person made no sense to me. Got another bill that had increased I called and paid it under duress but I feel I will continue to get billed. I saw on the statement that they were charging me for a paper statement and a $2.00 minimum interest fee therefore I guess this could go on forever. I have reached out to Lowe’s to stop this madness and to express my disgust for their choice to use Synchrony and never charge with them again!

I’ve had a 2% cash back card with Synchrony Bank for 4 years. On my most recent statement, I noticed that the cashback rewards were listed as 1.5% rather than 2. It seemed like a mistake, but I reviewed my past statements and noticed that the rate had been lowered two months ago. Until then it was the 2 % I had signed up for. There had been no notification from Synchrony about this upcoming change, and since then I have been unable to reach anyone with authority to speak with at the bank itself. I was told that someone would contact me very shortly to resolve the issue. That was six days ago, and I have heard nothing since.

I am leaving this review to worn others not to do business with this bank or any store that utilizes them to service its consumer accounts. They will destroy credit standing for no other reason than they felt like it. I have never been late nor had anything outstanding with them or anything that went unpaid and have had my credit decimated due to them decreasing my credit lines with the 4 or 5 store cards their bank (Synchrony) manages on behalf of those stores. If you are considering starting a financial relationship with any store that allows Synchrony to harm their clients refuse to use and utilize that stores goods and services. As individuals we are weak as a collective we are strong and could twist the arms of several entities to no longer do business with Synchrony. There is a saying the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Well the same can be true of the friend of my enemy is my enemy. If as a collective we let the institutions that serve us know we can not in good conscious spend our money with stores or service providers that would allow harm to their clientele by allowing Synchrony to devastate their patrons financially.

This bank is a JOKE at the highest level. I went to this bank for a HELOC loan which I was referred to by my mortgage company. Right from the start things went left. First I would like to point out if you're dealing with Carmen Cordero request to speak to a robot, because she doesn't answer her phone. First they got me mixed up with my home and loan information attached to someone else name. Then they called me after some weeks to say, sorry we can't approve you because your house was up for sale recently. My home never was up for sale since I lived there. After that then they said I have to much credit debit so I can't be accepted. I don't know if they were finding reasons not to approve me but I make enough money to cover all my debts and was going to consolidate all of my loans and credit cards. I have a 750 score and NO derogatory remarks on my credit report. I would have easily paid my monthly payment so I really don't get it. No worries everything happens for a reason, so before you use this bank read the reviews and stay away from this bank

This lender has lowered my credit on two occasions.  I had finally gotten my credit up to good standing after going through a divorce where my ex-wife ruined my credit.  I got remarried and lost some weight and went into a Belk's to get some celebratory new clothes.  They asked us if we would like a card to establish better credit and we agreed.  Initially, they gave me a credit line of $800.00.  We spent $300 that day and got some new clothes.  When I got home, I set up the account and automatic payment.  For a few months, I made payments on the account and brought the balance back down to $550.  then I got a letter from  Synchrony Bank stating they lowered my credit line to $550.  Then, because of what they did to me, my credit dropped 40 points into needs work.  I had never missed a payment, on this card or any of my credit accounts.  I called  Synchrony Bank and they did nothing.  I also called the credit reporting agencies and though the agent was validating, they could do nothing.  It took several months to get some of my credit points back.  then, this morning, they lowered my line again to just over the balance I had paid down, to $466.00.  I am going to pay off this card and never use it again or shop at Belk's ever.  Do not apply for a Belk card because  Synchrony Bank is a predatory bank that messes with people's lives through credit.  Buyer beware.

I am on the other end of this. I own a company and my company did a bunch of work for a customer. The customer waits until the job is complete and files a dispute saying job was not done. I have proof that it was! Anyways this so called bank helped the customer steal $9,000 from the business account. Now they tell me after almost 60 days there is nothing they can do about it without the customer. Customer has us blocked on everything. I had to file a police report and everything else. Please don’t trust this company with your money. You will get the run around and no help. If I could give zero stars I would have. I just want others to be aware.

First off you have to deal with an AI for the first 3 minutes of a call. Then you get transferred hopefully not disconnected because then you have to start all over. I was transferred because the first foreign lady couldn't explain the new fees if they would have interest charged on the paper statement fee all ready $1.99. So the second foreign lady explained it to me and I was like ok. She said if you get you statements delivered electronically you will not have the $1.99 fee. I said no ill pay the $1.99 because I hate businesses pushing everything o n line it's ridiculous. So I was transferred again. So the 3rd foreign lady ask me for my name. I said why am I talking to you. Why was I even transferred. She said to go over the new charges and paper statement gees. I said she went over all that with me. So there is no reason to have transferred me. Like they don't even want to finish a conversation. Why was I transferred the lady didn't even tell me why she was transferring me and when I said why do I need to be transferred. All I got was hold and off to the next person. They just no very little can't answer questions and hand you off to the next person no reason given. I have talking to AI. I WANT TO SPEAK TO A HUMAN. If they can't answer simple questions then what are they hired to do

Synchrony bank, you are the worse bank I ever dealt with! Today I got a alert from Experian a change in my credit line with my JCPENNEY account! I had a credit line from $2500 to $600. Are you kidding me!!! Never late all because you don't like credit inquiries or the fact that I'm using other credit cards that has nothing to do with synchrony bank. I have not been late on any credit card payments. You just don't like this due to your own ridiculous scoring system. Who do you think you are? Your not helping the consumer at all.my credit score was way over 700 and you cost me to drop 18 points over nothing. I also opened a Sam's Club credit card approved by synchrony bank about 3 weeks ago for a decent line of credit and I canceled this card today as well. I had this happen maybe a year ago recently gave you guys a chance again for this to happen again. I see you people have a pattern for this in lieu of all the bad reviews I am finding out about now if I knew these reviews was out there I would have never applied for any credit cards with this Bank. Rest assured I will not again in the future and I will be sure to let JC Penney know and Sam's Club how I feel. You are truly doing a disservice to people and hurting people's credit more than you are doing anything to help.

They destroy your Credit Rating when you never miss a payment, make all your payments on time, and keep your usage low, and especially your balances low. They closed several of our accounts due to no or low usages, destroying our credit score and making us look like we were over using our credit and relying on it to survive when in reality we’ve been paying it off and with interest free payments and only using their cards when we received no interest payments and paid off early before they accrued interest on them. Worst mistake we ever made getting mixed up with this company, we will stick with Capital One from here on out because they’re more reputable and reliable than this company.

They need negative stars. I have 787 credit rating. Sams Club talked me into a card. 5% cash back on gas. Tell everyone to get the card. Was given an 8500 credit line. Never charged more than $400 on the card. With balance paid off every month. Lowes uses Synchrony bought thousands in appliances I paid off within the year at 0% interest. I discovered today at the gas pump with an empty tank both my cards had been shut off. Was told another credit check had been done and I was high risk. My credit worthiness is still impeccable. No late payments. No large debts. House paid off. Cars paid off. 1500 on an interest free card that will be gone by Christmas if not sooner. My credit gets sabotaged by a credit card agency like this? I have no idea what will happen to my credit score, but I’ve heard nothing good when something happens like this. I will never do business with anyone pushing a credit card on me from Synchrony. Every time at Sam’s Club I checked out. Was getting hustled to apply. This is what happens?

I've had 3 separate credit cards with Synchrony. One of them was a Lowes card with a limite of $4k, Sams Club with a limit of $500, and Care Credit with a limit of $2k. I used my Lowes card and purchased a few things, paid it off and within 3 months of paying it off they lowered my limit to $400. I paid of my Care Credit one and they closed it 3 months later. They lowered my Sam's Club one from $500 to $300 to now $200. I have not been late on payments, have had auto pay set up, and my Sam's Club one, I pay off monthly or bi monthly since it's so low. Other companies keep raising my credit limits with my cards, but Synchrony just lowers and closes. Would not recommend opening a card with them if you are trying to increase your credit score.

My wife and I both have Care Credit accounts as we have a dog and cats. We opened these accounts when our dog became very ill and needed emergency vet services, totally over 7000.00. We paid on time and more than the minimum due, we paid off the total balance before the promotion ended. Synchrony reduced both of our credit lines for a total of 5000.00! They had no explanation. This was a huge hit to our credit scores! My wife has a QVC card with Synchrony, they gave her an 1800.00 credit line. When she made a payment bringing the total due down to 200.00, they lowered her credit line to 225.00! This caused a huge hit to her credit score because it made it look like she was using over 95 percent of her credit line! They had no explanation. This is VERY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE. DO NOT OPEN A SYNCHRONY ACCOUNT.

Purposeful scamming done legally! I bought a mattress on credit and per usual process, was told Synchrony would contact me with the billing and payment information. Synchrony did not contact me until I received an email stating that I had 2 late fees for 2 late payments. Upon calling the service number on the email, I was given payment and billing information. They said I had not received information because I was set up on paperless (which is automatic when you set up an account). I told them I did not feel I should be charged late fees as I had called the mattress company and been reassured that Synchrony had just not set up payments yet and had received no communication from Synchrony. They said they would waive the fees, and we set up automatic payments. The next month, the fees were still on my account. Upon calling back, they said they can only remove one late few. The agent was unapologetic, short, and rude. That billing set up seems like a purposeful scam.

This bank is the most non customer friendly company I have ever delt with in the 75 years I have delt with Banks These people do not have any business dealings with the public under any reason. They insult you with the emails and promises to do things and do not do what they say. I would love to tell all but my language would be to nasty for most to read. The CEO should step down due to poor leadership.i like working with Chase but these Aholes are not worth working with. Lowe,s needs to find another bank to work with before Synchrony bank runs all the good customers away. The worst customer service anywhere.

Keeping my money hostage They did not execute a wire transfer to a verified account in which time was of the essence. Instead they blocked my account for a "review" that would take 3, 4 or 10 working days in which time I cannot use it, without being able to give an explanation of the reason why. They are not going to notify me of the result, I need to call them now and with representatives who will transfer me to others at least twice. Last time I was hung up three times for a total speak time of 1.5 hours. The bank has no rates above 1. As soon as I can I will close the account. I recommend that you do that as well.

I had two accounts with Synchrony. One account for Car Care and another for TJMAXX. I had previously used the Car Care account for repairs earlier in 2023, so I signed up for the TJMAXX card December of 2023. I never received a credit card for the TJMAXX account, nor did they provide me with the account number. I had tried to log in to pay the bill and could not log in. I had contacted the company about this concern multiple times. I requested to be given the account number they stated they could not, but they would send a bill in the mail. I did not get a bill until June 2024. Even after receiving the bill with the account number, I was still not able to log in on the app or online to pay the bill. Because of this my credit has decreased by over 150 pts. In April 2024 I called a Synchrony Car Care representative and requested to pay the remaining balance and to close the account. I was told that they were closing the account, and I paid the remaining balance. Since I was having such a bad experience trying to pay the TJMAXX card, I decided to double check the Car Care account late June 2024. There was a balance of $324.18 in late fees and interest! I called and spoke to the manager. He was giggling and joking which I found to be unprofessional. He stated that we could resolve the TJMAXX account by waiving the late fees, but not the interest. I paid the balance of the TJMAXX account, and after paying he stated that I will still receive charges to that account next month which I found frustrating. They stated that when I called to pay off the car care account and close it that they only charged me for the "promotional balance", and I still had a $117 charge on the account and since April it's accumulated interest and late fees. Now that also has negativity affected my credit and I had no idea. I stated that was not acceptable and not what I had requested. The manager said there's nothing he can do that I have to pay it. I find that to be completely unacceptable.

Of all my nine different creditors, none have ever decreased my credit limit on any of my accounts except for Synchrony! Not only did Synchrony decrease my credit limits on all my cards with them, they also removed all available balances. We are talking about thousands of dollars I had available and left my cards at 98% usage, maxed out! What a low, malicious thing to do. Synchrony also decided to remove $3000 available in credit on my Sam's Club card two days before the 4th of July. There went my huge 4th of July party! How thoughtful of them! I can't wait to now pay off all my forcibly maxed out accounts with Synchrony so I can cancel the cards and stop doing business with a company that cares nothing for their customers. Mind you, I have never made a single late payment to them, all accounts 100% in good standing. And this is how Synchrony treats its members! Don't do business with this company unless you want to be treated like garbage.

Read the reviews. I had no warning or emails, and they closed my account after being with them for over 3 years. They took money out of my account, and when I asked for a refund I was told I would receive the money back to my checking account within 7-15 business days. It's been over two weeks and I found out they issued a check to an incorrect address, after verifying they would refund it to my checking account. Speaking with 3 different people from India and each one had no idea what they were doing, and hung up in my face after expressing concerns and the misinformation. After I pay off this credit card, I will NEVER return to do business with this company. They lost the check, and now I will have to wait another 3 weeks to get the money they took out of my account without my permission. Lesson learned.

I had a Lowes card and still have a Sams Club card with this bank. So, in April I receive a notice telling me they are reducing my line of credit from 8,000 to 2,000, just 30.00 more than what I owed them. In May, a month later I got a notice they were closing my Lowes account. They used the excuse that I had high balances on my other cards, yes, i did. However, had no lates, no bad remarks, etc for over ten years. This just plummeted my credit score and here I was/am paying off my credit cards to get out of debt. And then this was just devastating. I also called and they did not care, cold- blooded, and non-American bank. I, of course will never shop at Lowes again and I am paying off my Sam's now. It was such a cold non-caring thing to do at a time when a lot of Americans have been using their cards to survive the hard times.

Synchrony Bank removed my reviews from BBB twice! Obviously, they are fraudulent! So I am here to re-post my damn review here! Synchrony Bank is BIG FRAUDULENT, FOOLING, SCAMMING PEOPLE’S MONEY AND CHARGING US MORE LATE FEES! HORRIBLE! I opened my Electronics Online/SYNCB/OWC account for purchasing IMAC desk computers. I did paid my bills on time, 3rd of every month but seems, they are fooling to charge me late fees every time after I paid my bills on time, 3rd of every month! Sounds like they are trying be greedy to get my extra money from many late fees after I did paid my bills on time! I wanna have FBI to investigate Synchrony Bank and see if seriously, they are fraudulent for charging me and other people many late fees! Bust them and sue them for their fraudulent! Remove all late fees from my Electronics Online/SYNCB/OWC account! I am tired of this hearing world! I am tired! No customer service there! I hope someday customers will sue them real soon!

Synchrony Bank is no place to get a credit card. I have an Ashley credit card with Synchrony bank. I was approved for $1,000 credit limit. Been making my payments all of the time. Now I find out they dropped my credit limit to $700. So I bought furniture from Ashley. I now owe $678 on my card, and now they say my available credit is $83. They say they reduced it because I have to many other credit cards with big balances. When I asked them questions on how and why they could do this, no one there was smart enough to give me the right answer and hung up on me twice. This is the worst bank I have ever worked with. Please do not get involved with this Rinky Dink ooperation!

Charged me fees I didn’t agree on with my credit care card. They kept hanging up when I tried to resolve. They lowered and canceled other cards which ruined my credit when I wasn’t late and didn’t have a reason. No notice given. Finally when I demanded my card be refunded and fixed or I wouldn’t pay they took me to court and sued me for the remaining balance and of course no matter what proof you have in court a judge with always side with a huge bank. They also closed my account so I couldn’t access any statements in court and even after I requested they send a full print off. I never received it. Don’t use them. If you have good credit, they will ruin it! Their customer service is the worst and they do things most other companies do not.

had two cards with them, both at separate times and with separate retailers were canceled immediately after paying them off within a promotional period. This screwed my credit both times, the first time inconveniently when my dad passed and nearly made me miss his funeral. They didn't care. I tried calling them and asking them why, all I got was 'your credit is no longer what it was so we canceled you' like really? you dont say? THAT'S HOW CREDIT AND LIFE IN A PANDEMIC WORKS!!!!! Trued reporting them through the BBB but they are clearly in the bank's pocket, go figure. Stay away from them if you value your money.

We became involved with Synchrony Bank when we purchased a Sleep Number mattress. At the time Sleep Number offered a financing offer that we were initially not interested in; but, because it involved a 0 % financing over 48 months, we said why not spread the $5,000+ cost out as it cost us nothing to do so, We were instantly approved and made our regular monthly payment for six months. We suddenly received a notice that the terms of our "contract" had changed. Now, because this was a "promotional" event in which we received a 0% rate, we would now be subject to a 2% "Promotional Fee" for the total amount at the outset of our transaction, we would be charged $1.99/ month to receive paper statements, and the fee for any "returned payment" would be $41. None of this was part of our original agreement, and if it had been, we would have rejected the whole concept as it is ridiculous and a misrepresentation of 0% financing. So, in essence, this was a "Bait and Switch" maneuver. We immediately paid off the outstanding amount and will be canceling the credit card that we never wanted in the first place. We refuse to be associated in any way with institutions that engage in this sort of deceptive behavior, and this is the last we will ever be involved with any banking or credit activity through Synchrony Bank. I would recommend that anyone use great caution when dealing with a financial institution that apparently has a track record of inaccurate statements, and feels that it can blithely alter the real terms, and the spirit of the terms of any agreement it has with a consumer at any point in time. Buyer and deposited Beware!

Would give zero stars if possible. I had an account with them with a $1500 limit. Have never been late, I got hit with unexpected medical costs and used this card. They decided out of no where to drop my credit limit from $1500 to just above $800 (which was where my current balance was at the time) they never gave me advance notice of this. That skyrocketed my utilization and they didn’t care. I also provide assistance for my elderly mother. She had a care credit account with them. She always paid the account in full and on time. They closed her account with no warning. She got an email stating that because she didn’t own a home, they closed her account. She’s in her 70’s and lives in an apartment, so that makes her less worthy of having a credit card?

Horrible experience! Avoid them completely. They swapped the cards I had on file and started charging me money without my knowledge. I was only notified when my payment was late. The primary reason I got the card was to improve my credit score; I don't need additional credit as I have plenty. I'm extremely frustrated with their awful business practices. Two months ago I completely paid this off and closed it out because I was so furious and mad then and now I just found out today that I have some kind of other magical mysterious charge along with another late payment when this was supposed to be 100% taken care of paid off and closed 2 months ago. Makes no sense to me. Seems like a total scam. They seem to hide the bills and only inform you about the money you owe when you're already late, to collect interest rates and damage your credit. They don't care about their customers and appear to take pleasure in causing widespread dissatisfaction. I've been a satisfied Amazon customer for over a decade, but in just six short short months, my opinion has completely changed. I detest everything about them and hope they face legal consequences and go out of business soon. I eagerly anticipate a class action lawsuit that might lead to significant repercussions for the company.

I had a CD with Synchrony Bank for $60,000. I notified them of an address change early January prior to my CD maturing at the end of February. Two days ago, on the 11th of April, I was notified by my new bank that Synchrony had finally transferred the money; however, they had deducted $898.92, claiming I had withdrawn the money early! I have tried so many times I cannot count, to contact anyone at Synchrony Bank but it is impossible. All I get is a chatbot or someone who isn't even qualified to discuss banking. How does this continue to happen when it has been reported for months now, that other consumers have suffered similar losses. Because of their negligence, I lost the opportunity to invest nearly $62,500, at 5.75% interest. During the time they were “reviewing” my account to “potentially” release the funds, as though it were not mine- they claimed that I failed to contact them regarding the address change and then they put me under some kind of “investigation,” that not even my Wealth Management Bank could resolve. I wanted the money sent back to the bank from which it originated- so Wealth Management could then transfer it to another bank. They refused to discuss the reason why my bank- Northwest Bank, was not an option. My family has been banking there since 1988. Every time I confront Synchrony Bank about their negligence and gross mishandling of my account, they blame me because I failed to contact them. Classic projection and victim shaming is all I got from them. They refused to let me talk to a real banker that could help me- because they didn’t care. They kept me from three opportunities and then promptly took three months worth of interest away from me for no reason. I am at my wit's end. I'd rather put my money under a mattress than go through this again. You felt you were entitled to keep my money. I am mortified at their behavior. They kept telling me to document it in their app, and upload everything that was necessary- three different letters from other banks saying the address change was okay with them. They wouldn't transfer my money and they wouldn't write me a check either. They keep telling me to use the app and I swear to God they never read anything I sent them. Everyone else sent me a check either to my home or to my bank of origin within 24-36 hours. I have contacted everyone I can possibly contact about this issue. The way I have it figured out, if Clark Howard says Synchrony Bank is safe, then it should be. I just finished writing to the folks at the Clark Howard Show, to see if they will let me tell my story on the air.

I tried for 2 days to change my contact information. They had an old phone number on file and I had to call for them to change it. First they sent me a link where I had to take a 5 second video of myself and then had to scan in my id neither of which worked very well. After that their system sent me a passcode to call back and give to a rep. The rep had no idea what to do with this passcode. After calling back several times I was finally transferred to the fraud department for verification. That rep also did not know how to handle my situation however she contacted someone who finally gave her permission to change my contact information. The next day I went online to check my information to find out she did not update my phone again not allowing their system to send me a passcode so I could do it myself. I have two accounts with Synchrony and notice the other account wanted to send me a passcode to a phone number that I don't recognize. So I had to call again. I ended up raising my voice to this rep because he couldn't understand what my problem was and he hung up on me. So I had to call again. In the meantime I receive a digital letter from their fraud department for me to use for the next 30 days. I called the number listed on the letter and I guess what? That rep had no idea what to do or how to use that passcode. At one point while I was waiting for the fraud department rep to update my account I went online while I was waiting and updated 8 of my bank accounts in about 15 minutes. I spent about two hours over a period of two days trying to get them to update my information and it still is not done properly. I ended up closing one of my accounts which I was able to do over the phone without a rep. The other account I plan on closing once I pay off the balance. I will never do business with Synchrony Bank again. They have one of the worst customer service systems I have ever seen and I worked in customer service for over 7 years. SYNCHRONY BANK IS THE WORST! If I could I'd leave a zero-star rating I would!

Where do I start with Synchrony Bank. I first used them for care credit in which they refused to honor the interest free financing. Paid them off as fast as I could. Now they close a second card I had with them without even notifying me that the account was closed. In my state of they are going to close a consumer credit card the company is to provide at minimum 30 days notice in writing. However that never happens. By doing this they destroyed my credit. The cards are always being hacked. I had my PayPal card and Amazon card hacked multiple times. Each time they refuse to do anything and blame me for it. When it was on them. Now with them closing my card without notice I refuse to give them another cent. The DOJ needs to investigate Synchrony Bank and close the company down. If I could give them -50 stars I would. I would advise everyone to stay clear of them. The DOJ needs to investigate this fraudulent company and shut

Seems to be a very consistent concern with Synchrony Bank. I'm paying them off, making adequate payments, using some cards or not using others and then out of the blue I have a huge credit drop. They have at random cut my credit limit to $300, from $3000, stating a concern with credit inquiries. Then again, out of the blue, cut another card from $3000 to $2,250, no explanation. Card is being used correctly and paid off. They have destroyed my credit and one of the reasons they state for lowering credit limit, my credit score, that they lowered due to a sudden decrease. They have a monopoly on stores, but they are shady, scam artist and what they are doing needs to be looked into as fraudulent and illegal.

I would like start with saying this, if I knew this credit card company operate with poor standard and practices, I never would have sign up with them for the guitar center credit card. I sign up for the card to buy equipment for my local church. I had the card for over 1 year and half. Use it made purchase and paid card off not a problem. After that I used the card again an I noticed after the 3rd set of purchases my credit limit was decreased. A was sent a email that they are decreasing my credit limit. It didn’t make sense, because I was paying on it and using it and never had a late. Then yesterday was the last draw! I’m at work, I check my email, a saw I have a letter from this company(Synchrony financial) saying they made a decision to close the account. Now I can see if you are late all the time or don’t pay. I believe that is warranted of account closing. But if you make all you payments on time and this month made a double payment to pay it off and you close my account and I have credit and not behind that’s unethical and bad business practice. I have sent a letter, to attorney general office, bbb and complaint board. An after reading comment I will share my experience with my followers on social media to warn people how this company treat people.

I have several accounts with Synchrony Bank. Last month they lowered my credit limits across all accounts to where the balance was. I have NEVER missed a payment, Doing this screwed me over on my credit score, it dropped pretty drastically because my available credit to debt ratio dropped. With all the accounts, they dropped my available credit down about $5k. How I hate them... I worked so hard to bring my score up - always paying on time, always paying more than the minimum. Now my goal is to pay them all off and never do business with them again! And then a loan I have with Ally got transferred (or bought) by these fools. And for the record, Synchrony... your reasons are bull... I don't have a home loan BUT I own a home - so what's your problem?

Had some plumbing work financed through the Synchrony Bank HomeCare card. Never again! Was waiting for my first statement to make my first payment. In that time, the balance was added to my account, pulled off as if I made a payment for the whole thing, added back, and pulled off again, ON THEIR END. It was only fixed because I called them to fix it. It appeared fixed so I set up a payment through my bank. Payment goes out, I check the SB website, it says my account is closed. They tell me it's because my first two payments (the ones I never made) were rejected. Then they lied and told me they informed me the day before I sent my actual payment. Now I'm waiting to see where my actual payment ends up so I can dispute it if necessary. Read the reviews. Stay as far away from this "bank" as you can. They are either a scan or totally incompetent.

HORRIBLE bank! I (had) a 785 credit score with no payment issues with this bank or anyone else. I was in really good shape. Out of no where, they closed all of my accounts stating I was a payment risk??? I have no idea where this came from? there is NOTHING to warrant this! Icing on the cake, I had monthly payments given to a charity taken from my credit card with them which they closed. I had to receive a letter from the charity stating they were unable to obtain payment.....there was NO reason for this....... please read the numerous reviews with my same complaint. I understand taking steps to ensure the safety of the borrows and the bank, but they are way out of line

Our payment on our loan was due on the 5th of the month. Due to a change in our payroll, we chose to pay ahead at the end of January, so we would not have any chance of being late when our next check came in February. These crooks are now telling us that we own them a 30 dollar late fee. Apparently by making a payment before the statement was generated, they did not consider this our normal payment and therefore they claim that our February payment was not made on time. They did this even though we are multiple months ahead on our payments. This is ludicrous!!! I’m very disappointed that I could not give them less than one star for the review!
