Would give zero stars if possible. I had an account with them with a $1500 limit. Have never been late, I got hit with unexpected medical costs and used this card. They decided out of no where to drop my credit limit from $1500 to just above $800 (which was where my current balance was at the time) they never gave me advance notice of this. That skyrocketed my utilization and they didn’t care. I also provide assistance for my elderly mother. She had a care credit account with them. She always paid the account in full and on time. They closed her account with no warning. She got an email stating that because she didn’t own a home, they closed her account. She’s in her 70’s and lives in an apartment, so that makes her less worthy of having a credit card?

Horrible experience! Avoid them completely. They swapped the cards I had on file and started charging me money without my knowledge. I was only notified when my payment was late. The primary reason I got the card was to improve my credit score; I don't need additional credit as I have plenty. I'm extremely frustrated with their awful business practices. Two months ago I completely paid this off and closed it out because I was so furious and mad then and now I just found out today that I have some kind of other magical mysterious charge along with another late payment when this was supposed to be 100% taken care of paid off and closed 2 months ago. Makes no sense to me. Seems like a total scam. They seem to hide the bills and only inform you about the money you owe when you're already late, to collect interest rates and damage your credit. They don't care about their customers and appear to take pleasure in causing widespread dissatisfaction. I've been a satisfied Amazon customer for over a decade, but in just six short short months, my opinion has completely changed. I detest everything about them and hope they face legal consequences and go out of business soon. I eagerly anticipate a class action lawsuit that might lead to significant repercussions for the company.

I had a CD with Synchrony Bank for $60,000. I notified them of an address change early January prior to my CD maturing at the end of February. Two days ago, on the 11th of April, I was notified by my new bank that Synchrony had finally transferred the money; however, they had deducted $898.92, claiming I had withdrawn the money early! I have tried so many times I cannot count, to contact anyone at Synchrony Bank but it is impossible. All I get is a chatbot or someone who isn't even qualified to discuss banking. How does this continue to happen when it has been reported for months now, that other consumers have suffered similar losses. Because of their negligence, I lost the opportunity to invest nearly $62,500, at 5.75% interest. During the time they were “reviewing” my account to “potentially” release the funds, as though it were not mine- they claimed that I failed to contact them regarding the address change and then they put me under some kind of “investigation,” that not even my Wealth Management Bank could resolve. I wanted the money sent back to the bank from which it originated- so Wealth Management could then transfer it to another bank. They refused to discuss the reason why my bank- Northwest Bank, was not an option. My family has been banking there since 1988. Every time I confront Synchrony Bank about their negligence and gross mishandling of my account, they blame me because I failed to contact them. Classic projection and victim shaming is all I got from them. They refused to let me talk to a real banker that could help me- because they didn’t care. They kept me from three opportunities and then promptly took three months worth of interest away from me for no reason. I am at my wit's end. I'd rather put my money under a mattress than go through this again. You felt you were entitled to keep my money. I am mortified at their behavior. They kept telling me to document it in their app, and upload everything that was necessary- three different letters from other banks saying the address change was okay with them. They wouldn't transfer my money and they wouldn't write me a check either. They keep telling me to use the app and I swear to God they never read anything I sent them. Everyone else sent me a check either to my home or to my bank of origin within 24-36 hours. I have contacted everyone I can possibly contact about this issue. The way I have it figured out, if Clark Howard says Synchrony Bank is safe, then it should be. I just finished writing to the folks at the Clark Howard Show, to see if they will let me tell my story on the air.

I tried for 2 days to change my contact information. They had an old phone number on file and I had to call for them to change it. First they sent me a link where I had to take a 5 second video of myself and then had to scan in my id neither of which worked very well. After that their system sent me a passcode to call back and give to a rep. The rep had no idea what to do with this passcode. After calling back several times I was finally transferred to the fraud department for verification. That rep also did not know how to handle my situation however she contacted someone who finally gave her permission to change my contact information. The next day I went online to check my information to find out she did not update my phone again not allowing their system to send me a passcode so I could do it myself. I have two accounts with Synchrony and notice the other account wanted to send me a passcode to a phone number that I don't recognize. So I had to call again. I ended up raising my voice to this rep because he couldn't understand what my problem was and he hung up on me. So I had to call again. In the meantime I receive a digital letter from their fraud department for me to use for the next 30 days. I called the number listed on the letter and I guess what? That rep had no idea what to do or how to use that passcode. At one point while I was waiting for the fraud department rep to update my account I went online while I was waiting and updated 8 of my bank accounts in about 15 minutes. I spent about two hours over a period of two days trying to get them to update my information and it still is not done properly. I ended up closing one of my accounts which I was able to do over the phone without a rep. The other account I plan on closing once I pay off the balance. I will never do business with Synchrony Bank again. They have one of the worst customer service systems I have ever seen and I worked in customer service for over 7 years. SYNCHRONY BANK IS THE WORST! If I could I'd leave a zero-star rating I would!

Where do I start with Synchrony Bank. I first used them for care credit in which they refused to honor the interest free financing. Paid them off as fast as I could. Now they close a second card I had with them without even notifying me that the account was closed. In my state of they are going to close a consumer credit card the company is to provide at minimum 30 days notice in writing. However that never happens. By doing this they destroyed my credit. The cards are always being hacked. I had my PayPal card and Amazon card hacked multiple times. Each time they refuse to do anything and blame me for it. When it was on them. Now with them closing my card without notice I refuse to give them another cent. The DOJ needs to investigate Synchrony Bank and close the company down. If I could give them -50 stars I would. I would advise everyone to stay clear of them. The DOJ needs to investigate this fraudulent company and shut

Seems to be a very consistent concern with Synchrony Bank. I'm paying them off, making adequate payments, using some cards or not using others and then out of the blue I have a huge credit drop. They have at random cut my credit limit to $300, from $3000, stating a concern with credit inquiries. Then again, out of the blue, cut another card from $3000 to $2,250, no explanation. Card is being used correctly and paid off. They have destroyed my credit and one of the reasons they state for lowering credit limit, my credit score, that they lowered due to a sudden decrease. They have a monopoly on stores, but they are shady, scam artist and what they are doing needs to be looked into as fraudulent and illegal.

I would like start with saying this, if I knew this credit card company operate with poor standard and practices, I never would have sign up with them for the guitar center credit card. I sign up for the card to buy equipment for my local church. I had the card for over 1 year and half. Use it made purchase and paid card off not a problem. After that I used the card again an I noticed after the 3rd set of purchases my credit limit was decreased. A was sent a email that they are decreasing my credit limit. It didn’t make sense, because I was paying on it and using it and never had a late. Then yesterday was the last draw! I’m at work, I check my email, a saw I have a letter from this company(Synchrony financial) saying they made a decision to close the account. Now I can see if you are late all the time or don’t pay. I believe that is warranted of account closing. But if you make all you payments on time and this month made a double payment to pay it off and you close my account and I have credit and not behind that’s unethical and bad business practice. I have sent a letter, to attorney general office, bbb and complaint board. An after reading comment I will share my experience with my followers on social media to warn people how this company treat people.

I have several accounts with Synchrony Bank. Last month they lowered my credit limits across all accounts to where the balance was. I have NEVER missed a payment, Doing this screwed me over on my credit score, it dropped pretty drastically because my available credit to debt ratio dropped. With all the accounts, they dropped my available credit down about $5k. How I hate them... I worked so hard to bring my score up - always paying on time, always paying more than the minimum. Now my goal is to pay them all off and never do business with them again! And then a loan I have with Ally got transferred (or bought) by these fools. And for the record, Synchrony... your reasons are bull... I don't have a home loan BUT I own a home - so what's your problem?

Persistent Dreams

Had some plumbing work financed through the Synchrony Bank HomeCare card. Never again! Was waiting for my first statement to make my first payment. In that time, the balance was added to my account, pulled off as if I made a payment for the whole thing, added back, and pulled off again, ON THEIR END. It was only fixed because I called them to fix it. It appeared fixed so I set up a payment through my bank. Payment goes out, I check the SB website, it says my account is closed. They tell me it's because my first two payments (the ones I never made) were rejected. Then they lied and told me they informed me the day before I sent my actual payment. Now I'm waiting to see where my actual payment ends up so I can dispute it if necessary. Read the reviews. Stay as far away from this "bank" as you can. They are either a scan or totally incompetent.

HORRIBLE bank! I (had) a 785 credit score with no payment issues with this bank or anyone else. I was in really good shape. Out of no where, they closed all of my accounts stating I was a payment risk??? I have no idea where this came from? there is NOTHING to warrant this! Icing on the cake, I had monthly payments given to a charity taken from my credit card with them which they closed. I had to receive a letter from the charity stating they were unable to obtain payment.....there was NO reason for this....... please read the numerous reviews with my same complaint. I understand taking steps to ensure the safety of the borrows and the bank, but they are way out of line

That's how you'll conduct business np thank you. And customer service was terrible. I would never recommend synchrony bank to anyone. Our payment on our loan was due on the 5th of the month. Due to a change in our payroll, we chose to pay ahead at the end of January, so we would not have any chance of being late when our next check came in February. These crooks are now telling us that we own them a 30 dollar late fee. Apparently by making a payment before the statement was generated, they did not consider this our normal payment and therefore they claim that our February payment was not made on time. They did this even though we are multiple months ahead on our payments. This is ludicrous!!! I’m very disappointed that I could not give them less than one star for the review!

I seldom give poor reviews because the world has far too many critics. However, your phone system/ communication lines are sub par. The fraud team flagged our card due to a high risk transaction at Walmart. I appreciated the concern at first, but the card has not worked properly since this date. We have called 4 times to have the "card turned back on" only to have it declined for our normal pattern of spending. Moreover, your customer service team has poor communication with transferring back and forth and is unable to help with basic transactions. We have given forgiveness 4 times in the past month...with no results of fixing the problem or any sort of compensation. I am embarrassed for this company.

I wish I could give a 0. Like the OP they cut you off then send an email with a letter from 4 months prior with irrelevant data. They cut one of my cards from 1000 to 100. Who the hell has 100 credit cards. That’s gift card status. They really suck I advise everyone to stay away from these scumbags even this review is a scam. I put all 1’s and for the NPS question at the bottom I put 0. Then it tells me I 80% finished the review. After looking back I didn’t omit anything so I decided to test and changed my NPS question to a 10 and then they say I filled out the survey 100%. I am submitting this scam review process to the better business bureau and the NPS team for forced hi scores

Outdated a/o basic algorithms lead to customer service omissions. For example it's auto-withdrawal malfunctions, and the customer service staff on the initial phone or chat intake aren't trained or equipped to address it. So the bank will count it against you even though it's a bank issue. The year 2023 and I had to make manual payments. If you need the credit grab it, but if you're not pressed there are better banks.

Opened this card in June 2021 as my dog was going to sleep furever. The promotion says 0% interest if paid in full by 6 months (12/2021). Cool. Charged vet fees, no problem. Charged cremation costs, no problem. Took my total balance and divided by 6 since I knew that would be my balance. Made a payment that day, before my first billing cycle even ended. This technically makes me "one month" ahead on payments, right? I'm making a payment before the cycle ends each time. Last month, I got my statement which had a $29 late fee. What? They said it was because I didn't make my payment on time. They said I made it on the "due by" date, but not by whatever Eastern time deadline (I'm in Central). Actually, I did, and I have the email confirmations and screenshots to prove it. I made it in the middle of the day but it didn't post as processing until the next day. Went through the automated service which said they would do a one time refund but make sure I make the next payment on time to avoid the fee. I had no idea!🙄 I verified via a confirmation # from live csr about the $29 so we will see what my next statement says. Kind of makes me dread what December might look like. I will update if the statement goes wrong again or if December is crap, but right now I'm just neutral. Even though I was refunded money I didn't owe, I was still put down by an automated system treating me like a child. If all goes well, I will give deserved stars back.

The first time I even heard of Synchrony Bank -- we bought a Bed from a Mattress Business in Glenwood Springs. Oh it was great until they got to the point where you could send your payment in time and they would never get it in time and would start adding more charges on to your account. Then we went to Lowes, same thing Synchrony Bank on every thing at Lowes. Then I went to Sam's Club and had no idea that they had taken over Sam's Club. Just got a call about Synchrony Bank on the phone and found out that they not only had the wrong name, the Bill I was sent was returned by the Post Office and of course there were interest fees. Good Grief is the the Bank of the Future? So my advice don't charge anything to any place unless you know what Bank they are using. This Synchrony Bank has taken over everything. I have been a Traveling Notary and my advice don't do business through them as you get the same person Who doesn't speak good English. I almost Crapped when I heard this same lady say I am calling about your missing a payment from Synchrony Bank for shopping at Sam's Club. I had no idea. Won't use that card any more, sticking to Discover Card. Same Lady gets on there and says the Bill came back to our Company. I have been here for 55 years in the same location, if it came back you had to have something wrong with the address. It was in a Name from a Previous Marriage. I hate that name . They want you to pay over the phone. They want you to send the Bill back the same day as you get it so if it takes the mail awhile they don't care they just don't care about the mail. Well I do care about the mail and when you get my payment you can see the post marked date. So stop acting like your going to keep adding more money on to the Bill..... I can't help it. I do not pay on line for anything except the Discover Card.

And this is the second time this has happened to me with this Bank. Lowe's uses them too and their interest rate is 31% plus there is a $2 fee for processing.

Absolutely hands down the worst credit card company we've ever had to deal with. Without any heads up, they closed 3 separate vendor accounts, all paid off, no balance, never a carry over balance; without so much as a letter or phone call. Now they require 3 new application, 3 new credit inquiry's, etc... just to try again. Come to find out we're 1 of many. Worst Lender I have ever worked with. My GF wanted a Table from Ashley's so she applied to their credit. received $3000. we used $800 and had 1 year no interest to pay it off. I made every payment on time and payed &100 a month. as soon as the debit owed reached $400 they reduced the credit limit to $500 making my account go to 90% card usage vs 10% with no notice. That is a crappy way to screw over your customers. I will never use credit from them again. and Hope that they go out of Business. Stay away from this place, They will screw you over.

Worse banking experience ever. They suspected my Verizon Visa card before due date. I couldn’t pay and they put a surcharge/ penalty. Never paid late. A fraud way of making money by this bank. They send me letter to verify credit history saying “To apply for a credit card”, when I have been customer since 2019. They want to lower credit history of the customer. They lower your credit limit without warning to below your balance to hope you don't notice to be able to charge you fees. They also tell you they check your credit to adjust your limit based on BS factors. My credit has been better since opening my PayPal credit through them, but lowered it by half saying my score went down. The only time it's been down is due to them lowering my credit limit and raising my credit utilization. They are horrible. Queue the BS copy-paste reply.

Like others, I had accounts with Synchrony, then got snail mail about their concern about paying my accounts, even though I haven't missed a payment. They pulled the same stunt about 2 or 3 years ago. So, I've gone through this twice with them. So, from my perspective, if I could, I wouldn't give them a star at all. I will never EVER do business with them again. I will not have a savings account with, nothing at all. Awful experience with Synchrony. Had the card for a couple years with basically no usage. I applied for it with Verizon and it allowed me to get a discount at the time for some promo. Eventually they told us we had to have auto pay on the Verizon account through the credit card to get the autopay discount. So I swapped my auto pay over and had my auto pay set up through my bank for the card. After 1 failed payment for who knows what since they wouldn't give me the information, they closed the account with no notification that the payment had failed.

I would give a zero if I could. DO NOT use any card from them. Thanks to them my credit score has went down over a 100 points. First they cancelled my long standing card, then lowered my Amazon account down to 300 when it was 1500. Then they lowered my Verizon card from 2500 down to 300. Now since they lowered it I still had like 25 available credit. For whatever reason they are now saying that I am over the credit amount. I just paid over a 100 on it and so shouldn’t be no where close to being over. I have NEVER had a late payment on any of my cards. I have paid all of them 2 weeks or so before the due date and over the amount that was owed. I’m so over them and would not recommend them to anyone. I just had a letter read to me by a customer service lady, because I never got the email, she read it to me from her side. I started with a 1,200 limit at Belk and I've Never ever got my balance up that high and Always pay early and over the payment amount. Thats one card I did love at one time. I checked my monthly payment due ,as always, to find out that I went from 1,200 to 720 limit which lowered my score because it looked like I maxed out my card. Never ever mazed and paid over amount, I looked today to write my bills in my bill book and because I had an amount available they lowered my limit $20 below my available. So lowered my credit score Again. If you get it to 30 used on card they will mess you up and lower your limit. I am so saddened that our banking system allows such a company to operate such misleading and deceptive trade practices as this organization. I signed up for a two year payment plan in 2021. As soon as I received my first statement, I quickly calculated that they were specifying a payment amount that was to set me up to not pay it off on time. After GREAT resistance I finally got the rep to change the amount to be auto deducted such that I would pay it off in time and avoid any and all interest charges. Upon the expiration date of the promotion, somehow they had added additional monies owed and passed on a doozie of an interest charge. They are unable to explain how that happened. Note that I have contacted them now four times tallying at least seven hours of explaining to each representative their error. Each and every time, they had no notes on the prior conversation, continued to deny that I ever filed a complaint. Eventually they agree they saw I had contacted them and then begin again the standard script evading any note of customer service and/or resolution. I even received emails stating I had messages in my account only to go there and discover no such messages. Their idea of customer service is to hide, deny, hide then deny. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES enter into any agreement with this company. They are designed to set you up and then run for the hills. How can this company be allowed to operate? They are a disgrace to business.

I have a care credit card through synchrony bank and am enrolled in auto pay. I had to change my account numbers because of some fraudulent activity on my bank account. I changed everything on my auto pay with synchrony and they still screwed it up. It showed I had made my payment on time and then a week later I look and see it's past due. I've never made a late payment on anything in my life and these incompetent fools can't get it right. So now I'm stuck with a late payment on my credit report because they have no idea what they are doing. Unbelievable how anyone can be so incompetent. All they do is answer a phone and can't even get that right.

Lousy experience trying to open a CD. I filled out their application online and got no confirmation. After a couple of days, I called, and they could not find any record of my application. I filled it out again with the customer service person on the phone. Again, no confirmation. After about a week I got a letter denying my application saying, "Your application has been declined because we are unable to verify your identity as required by the USA PATRIOT Act". What? I have been a U.S. citizen my whole life, never changed my name, lived in the same address for over 20 years and they have my SSN #. Are they really saying they are that incompetent? or is there something else going on ...? The world is becoming a scary place. Anyway, I moved on to a more competent/reputable bank and I would suggest you do the same.

Had this card for YEARS (4 to be exact)! Paid off my balance and haven't had one on it for at least 2 years. Just recently, in the last 6 months, I went through a financial hardship. I was then surprised to find an email from Synchrony Bank telling me that they canceled my credit card. Now again, I had NO BALANCE on this card, and have kept a great relationship with then, so imagine my shock upon receiving such an email. My credit score suffers further, I lose my available credit on that card, and I feel betrayed and hurt by this company to boot! I could see it if I was late on payments, or if I had an outstanding balance, but I was always on time for payments, and I NEVER kept a balance on this card. These people are scumbags. DO NOT do business with them. They won't hesitate to kick you while you're down.

Terrible customer service!! I paid off my account and had a zero balance, and 6 weeks later I had a balance again, and didn't use the card. The account was messed up for 2 months when suddenly my closed account through Synchrony from years ago also had a balance!! It was a closed account and suddenly showed a balance? I called 4 separate times in an attempt to straighten it up. When I called yesterday, I asked to speak to a supervisor and she got on the phone in a mood. She told me that my bank account was closed. It has never been closed. I have had the account for years. I kept trying to explain my issue and she kept saying over and over that my bank account was closed. Not true. I ended up closing the account for my JC Penney card due to the treatment. I have been a long time customer, I don't miss payments and I was treated horribly by Heather a so called supervisor from the call center. She was rude, and she didn't listen to the problem. Horrible customer service! Train your people!! I am contacting JC Penney to let them know how I was treated by Synchrony and why I dropped my JCPenney card. Also, I am reaching out to the State Attorney General to file a BBB complaint. I encourage others to do the same. I am disappointed in the way I was treated for a series of missteps on their end. Shameful.

This is a very low class lender bank. I have 3 credit cards through them two have not been used they are less than a year old. So they closed those two. I have one through this bank now that I have and making payments on it and they sent me an email saying that it was closed. So I get in touch with them and they say that the account with this card is good. So is it closed or is it opened. Once this particular account is paid I will never ever go through this bank lender again. Their customer service support is crappy. I have read numerous very bad reviews and seen lawsuits against this bank lender. My advice is if your applying for a credit card DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND MAKE SURE ITS NOT THIS PARTICULAR LENDER.

Their retail credit cards with promotional purchases are predatory and non at all transparent. I followed all of the prompts for auto-pay and paperless billing, set my payment well above the minimums and in-line with paying off the promotions in time and they misallocated payments to other purchases causing the promotional purchase to not be paid on time, therefore tacking on HUGE deferred interest fees. I didn't receive any notifications about the fees and I have tried calling so many times to escalate the issue but get forwarded to an "account manager" who is a third party call center that just repeats "there's nothing we can do about it."

I’ve paid three of my accounts off only to find out they closed two of them and dropped the other one from $4000 to $100. The interest is awful my care credit was closed due to the company not pulling the funds out of my account in a timely manner, and due to them not pulling the payment the other payments on my account had been taking out. But I was the one that was embarrassed inside Reeds jewelry store due to Synchrony closing an account that has been paid in full since May of 2023 makes no since to close account that were paid in full. I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone. These are accounts I had for multiple years with a good history of payments before they were paid in full

Over the past 12 hours I have had nothing but problems creating and funding accounts with this institution. Last night, from Facebook, I followed their online application process. All three times, the application got to a point where it froze and would not respond. I decided to wait until morning to open the account. After opening my CD account in the morning, I funded it using a small amount of money. I then wanted to open a larger CD and tried to transfer funds. Their transfer system was telling me I needed two accounts, but did not explain that the second account had to be a Synchrony account that was not a CD. So, I created a high yield savings account. When I tried to fund the account using the same external account I used to fund the CD, I started getting the error "must not be blank". What a super descriptive error message that is. By the way, nothing was left blank. I tried several times to no avail. I then got on a chat with a live rep. Eventually, the rep had to call me on the phone. I cleared cookies. Cleared my cache. Then, a new error started showing up. I tried two other browsers, all with the same result. I want to add that I have 23+ years of software QA experience. This is not an instance of someone not knowing how to use a browser. I have plenty of online and mobile banking experience. This was an absolutely horrible customer experience.
