I would give 0 stars if I could. AHS and their contractors extort money from their customers. I was a customer for several years and had to request service twice. Neither time did the contractor fix anything. Instead they said something was wrong that wasn't in order to get more money from me than was necessary. The contractors put in no effort either time to attempt to fix the issue before stating that something else needed to be corrected. The first time they cut a hole in my wall and left. That never needed to be done. The second time the contractor was here less than 5 mins and said I needed a new toilet when my pipe was clogged. I ended up purchasing the same tool the contractor had and unclogging it myself. The contractor did not even address the order I put in for the leaking pipes. I requested compensation due to the work order not being fulfilled and received none. Customer service lied to me numerous times when I requested a different contractor from the beginning due to the first bad experience, stating they would send out another contractor when there is not one available. I am not the only person who had a very similar experience. I have reported it to the BBB, Department of Consumer Affairs and plan to continue to report it until I receive back every dime I paid AHS.

I have had home warranties through a number of companies over the years - but for many years with AHS. There have been times the service was excellent, they responded quickly to assign a service provider who did good work. There have been many other times when the service was terrible. They took a fee for the service call, someone came and said something like "we don't cover this." This, even after I had called AHS ahead of time, to say 'hey, this is the issue - I don't want to pay $100 for a service call if this isn't covered.' To have them reassure me that it was covered, and then get absolutely no response of follow up when I complained after the fact. One customer service rep reassuring me, "don't worry, even though your online dashboard says the claim is closed, we know it isn't finished and we're working on it." Just not true, no follow up and I don't have time or bandwidth to chase them down. That happened more than once. Literally, "oh, we're sorry - the brand of your washer is hard to find parts for, nothing we can do, case closed." It isn't my fault your technician didn't know where to order parts for my washer. In the balance, some wonderful companies along the many years - but too many bad ones, and with the spike in cost for this service it isn't worth it.

American Home Shield is a very unprofessional company who strive to decline the service you are entitle under the policy. AHS personal are not trained on their own products and communicate with customers with the wrong information misleading them to decline service that should be covered by the plan. When I tryed to cancel the plan, they offered me 2 months of free premium, but never gave me the credit and they never cancel my policy either. They kept charging my visa with no authorization and refused to service even on the platinum premium plan. I do not recommend them. AHS is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever work with in the past.

This last call was horrific! I phoned AHS because one of my air conditioning blades wasn’t turning. The first tech did nothing but tap the handle of a screwdriver on the units and said nothing was wrong, so he added free-on to one that was a bit low. Still had the problem. AHS sent a second tech. He stated my air conditioning unit was “to small” (even though my house has been here 17 yrs) and said on top of what I paid AHS, I would have to pay them $1260+. At that point, I called my regular air & oil company (since AHS does not allow you you use your own reliable companies). In about 2 minutes, my company Densmore diagnosed the issue. A pump was burned out that pumped water to the air conditioner. He had it fixed in less than 5 minutes. My out of pocket was about $350 and change. I doubt AHS will reimburse me for the clowns they sent out who attempted to stiff me for over $1200. I am VERY surprised AHS did not follow up on this earlier. They used to be a reputable company who used reliable companies. Not anymore. It’s sad to see they are dealing with sheisters now. It used to be a value.

I am displeased that all the representatives are employed from outside of the united states. it is often difficult for them to understand my needs and are often requiring me to repeat my self multiple times. They also almost always call me for follow up well after the hours of business. I also was due a refund check from AhS and it took 9 months for me to have it issued. I also have called and notes from previous calls were not input into the system. Currently, I am awaiting a follow up on the status of my washing machine. It has been two months.

I went through AHS for my split AC unit, just to have 5-6 different people come out to “fix” it and me having to miss working and open up my schedule to try to accommodate these times that they were going to come over . Instead of sending somebody capable of fixing the problem, each time it got worse according to each person sent to us. Not only am I 700+ dollars out but I had to go buy a Completely new AC split unit Due to American home shield now projecting the claim that they sent multiple people out to try to fix. I called them to See if I can get all of the money that I put into each claim back but instead I got a no. I could’ve definitely put that 700+ Towards a new unit or calling a separate company to come try to fix it on their own. After this situation, I was in disbelief.. And just wanted to cancel my policy since this is not the way you treat a Customer who has been with you guys for years.

I like the concept, but every service call is a fight with AHS. Our last service call resulted in the service provider damaging our house and not correcting the problem. AHS sent out another service provider that agreed that the orginial provider damaged the water valve and now the wall had to be opened to repair. The original service provider had quoted us $1500 (requesting us to pay for their mistake). AHS did not listen to their second provider and offered us $100 to walk away from the issue. I had to contact the owner and service manager for the first company, they agree that their tech screwed up and they are in the process of correcting. I HAD TO DO AHS's JOB FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER. We are still battling them (2 months) as they would only patch the drywall, not texture and paint the wall.... The company who they sent out to patch the wall wants another $1000 to texture and paint the 24"X24" hole. SO FRUSTRATING that they don't give a dang about their customers and let their service providers take advantage of their customers. Maybe they are in Kahoots, I am not sure.

Customer service is horrible you cannot understand what each agent is saying and they don’t understand you which is horrible AHS is horrible I can’t wait to cancel and go somewhere else or not at all worse experience ever. Ahs gave us a AC unit that they installed and now it’s not working properly and they want cover it and made us pay another two service fees beicase we called again after a so called deadline or recall so we already can’t get a new AC but we also paid Ahs twice worse service and company ever and I regret even starting up with this company you guys need to do better with agent that can speak English and show empathy change your procedures and rules and you will have better outcome and more customers you guys are horrible when it comes to satisfying your customers you guys don’t care just want your money do better please redo everything nothing is right with this company just want your money communication is horrible and no accountability at all

The communication is so difficult because of the language barriers. Many questions never answered. One day I saw without notice that my premium had increased by $50 and I never gave permission for the upgrade. I called and requested to continue receiving the same standard policy that I’ve had since day one. I had my policy randomly cancelled. I requested investigation as to who cancelled it because it wasn’t me. No one contacted me. I requested to speak to supervisor. I was told I would be contacted later. So now, I am currently without a policy. For 3 years I needed a leak fixed under my sink. I paid multiple service fees but told each time it couldn’t be fixed because I didn’t give an accurate account of what was leaking. How am I supposed to know? I’m not a plumber. Finally, many representatives are unpolite and speak condescending. I’ve had so many terrible experiences.

Took a month and a half to get a new dishwasher. The chief problem was lack of service providers in my city (only one, Appliance Works of Rochester MN). They were never reachable through phone or email, they never called back. Homeshield did not have enough service providers in Rochester.

I started my policy in July of 2009 and I've paid every month from July 2010 until June 2024. I never needed the service until 2 years ago to have my air conditioning serviced. After a cancelled appointment and AHS being unable to locate a contractor, I gave up. I decided to try again in May of 2024, after all this is why I have the home warranty! This ended badly! Two technicians came out both with different diagnosis (Preferred Heating and Cooling and Piedmont Mechanical). Preferred claimed that they weren't allowed on my property and couldn't service my AC, which was a false claim. Piedmont refused to submit a diagnosis, so it bounced back to Preferred. I escalated the issue to the contract relations department on June 19th. I finally cancelled the policy on July 6 after not hearing anything back from them. I would not recommend American Home Shield. The vendors appear to be sketchy and untrustworthy.

They send out the worse companies for repairs. The job is never done correctly and AHS will tell you that you have to pay your deductible again in order for them to go out again. Companies will tell you that the first company did not do the job correctly. My garage door opener would open real slow. Sometimes I would have to mess with it several times before I could leave. AHS told me the opener was still working. I got tired of having messing with my garage door opener every time I wanted to leave somewhere I ended up buying the garage door with my money. I was paying a monthly fee, a deductible and replacing my own things. I was losing money and AHS was making money.

You have selected terrible vendors who take way too long to complete the project. Though you set up the initial appointment, you hand it off to the homeowner from there and have no knowledge about of the state of the project from that point. As a result, the homeowner can't come to you for assistance or guidance if the vendor falls through. Then, you save the homeowner nothing. I got the warranty for insurance and peace of mind that I wouldn't blow my family budget anytime something went wrong in my home. Instead, I'm paying your business to do a Google search of plumbers for me. You're a waste of money and I look forward to the end of this agreement.

Like most warranty companies, they fail to understand the criticality of specific issues, the suffering of individuals, and the idea that patching the Titanic fundamentally doesn't resolve the primary causation of issues. I find it very frustrating that one issue can be bounced between several companies, leaving the customer to re-explain the history of the problem. Doing this inherently causes bias in the company diagnosing the issue because it introduces bias. Even if the warranty company doesn't want to replace the whole unit, they should still apply the amount they were willing to pay in repairs towards that option if the customer chooses to do so.

If I could give fewer stars I would. If you’re purchasing this policy with the expectation that when the big ticket items like your air conditioner go out, they will come through then I would strongly encourage you to save your money! I was given the runaround, told different stories by different customer service reps when I called to check on the status of my claim. I had a 26yo system and the slab coil started leaking - it wasn’t repairable. I decided to get a whole new system and requested the cash-in lieu (CIL) option. Where I would be paid out the amount AHS would otherwise pay to replace the item. My claim was denied. The latest reason provided - AHS alleges they applied a credit (they haven’t told me how much said credit was and this was denied by the vendor) toward my “upgraded” system. I purchased a base line model- 3ton system. As a result of said credit they allegedly applied to the purchase I negotiated with the vendor directly, they will not be offering the CIL. I have been left high and dry. I didn’t receive a single dime on my claim after paying nearly $800/yr in premiums. I will be filing an arbitration complaint - this has to be illegal for them to get away with this.

The price of the co stage has gone up significantly each year that we’ve had it. The last issue we had with our dishwasher took 4 appts with a tech to fix. We were without a dishwasher for nearly 3 months. The money spent for all the parts and visits, would’ve paid for a new dishwasher and it wouldn’t have been out of service for 3 months. Would not recommend this insurance, I’m gonna look elsewhere.

I put in a request for service, regarding our HVAC. The company that you contract with reached out, I expressed to them we need a call before anyone comes out. They said no problem, they will call. They never called, and just showed up. We are being charged the service fee of $125.00. Which we think we shouldn't have to pay. If this isn't rectified, we will switch our extended home warranty service. We reached out to American Home Shield customer service department. And they said they couldn't help with anything. We wanted to talk to the technician before coming out, we had some questions about our system. They could have saved a trip.

I like the process however, I did tell the agent about my dishwasher -the fact that I have Multiple Sclerosis and when I turned , I fell into the dishwasher causing the door to be damaged. I don't like Home sheild sending inexperienced repair men out that lie about the problem and cost us additional money y hiring some one to fix the problem when Home shield could have done it. Home shield need to follow up on their people they send out and report that the problem is not fixable. Many cases its not true.

I had my swamp cooler replaced by C&R Plumbing on 5/19/2023. They did a shoddy job and breached my roof, causong more than $10,000 in damages to my home. I discovered during this time that C&R Plumbing has a consistant ONE STAR rating thru the Better Business Bureau. Had this been revealed to me upfront, I would have NEVER NEVER NEVER trusted them with something as critical as the installation of my very expensive swamp cooler that I had waited YEARS to replace. State Farm is trying to resolve the claim and asked for an itemized receipt for the work American Home Shield (AHS, like the horror series…) contracted C&R Plumbing to do in replacing my swamper. Ugh. I reached out to American Home Shield for a fourth time this week. First person: We'll have that bill to you in 24hrs. That was six days ago. Second person: Yes. The form on your file says it'll be there in there in 24 hours. That was four days ago. Third person: Hung up on me. Fourth person: Played "20 Questions" with me until I snapped and they hung up on me. (i.e. "I'm going to reverify the same basic info ad nauseum until Laurie loses it...and then hang up") Fifth person: "Please just get me to your supervisor." They put me on hold for said person. The "Supervisor" is not actually a "Supervisor" but another rep for a different company representing American Home Shield. That person is authorized to "submit a form to Accounting requesting an itemized bill. It'll be sent to....is your email xxx@xxxx.xxx?" Me: 🤬 This is my TedTalk for the night. 😬😬😬

I have been an American home shield client for less than a year. Trying to get my HVAC fixed has been horrible. After getting a quote for $2600 they told me that I can get it fixed for less if I upgrade my plan from Gold to Platinum and have a new vendor come out under my new upgraded plan. Once I upgraded ($600 more as the special I got the Gold plan half off on had ended), then got a new vendor ($125 again a week after paying for the first vendor to come out), they told me that they would not authorize my HVAC repair to be covered under my new plan at all - meaning I spent $725 extra within one week for nothing. I have called multiple times, requested that the phone call where I was told that the upgrade would cover my HVAC be replayed, but all to no avail. After having this insurance for less than a year (only six months as an got it in April and it is now November), I am canceling this service ans going back to my old warranty company.

You seem to get push back on valid claims or you get service techs that charge 2 to 3 times the standard price. Becuase i ont have the time or access to do most of this myself i have to use something in the meantime. Im not sure how long. The customer service at AHS is good. That is a shining star, but what you get afterwards is questionable.

I bought an older home, so the peace of mind is helpful. Dealing with the customer service is a nightmare 90% of the time. Very hard to get clarification around any vagueness in the contract. For the most part the service technicians have been good and actually fixed the things that are wrong. However, when things don't go well, it goes very poorly---and then we're back to how awful AHS' customer service is. If I had a newer home, I would absolutely call this a money making scam. Enough stuff breaks in my old house that it's worth dealing with the nightmare of calling them.

I have an Apollo heating system a lot of companies cannot work on this system but there are some I have been trying for 4 weeks to get someone to my house. It was assigned to the same company four times that did not work on my system I had to call companies myself and then call HSA back to tell them who could work on it. It is going down in the '30s this week and I have no heat. No one will be here until November 3rd to look and this is the fourth week I've been trying to get it fixed. The customer service is horrible I did not have this problem last year, but I'm sorry to say I would not recommend American home shield. No one should have to wait for heat for 4 weeks and a part needs to be ordered so it could be a month before I have heat. I have parrots in my house and I'm running electric heaters. This should not have happened

We call to let you all that I could not use my bathrooms or shower the representative state that would make not to plumber no when they out on Thursday, no caring attitude. The plumber company call state that they could not come on Thursday they had one there working was sick. They rescheduled for Monday hours 12-5. So we had to call another plumber company to take of plumber issue.

Like that I can get problems taken care of at a better then full cost price. Dislike that I can not speak to someone on mainland USA. Also on occasion have found that the workers are not from a first rated company. We seem to pay more and more but do not seem to get top quality help.

When I logged onto my American Home Shield Account I saw that they had scheduled me for yesterday… No phone call or email letting me know this! I was home for most of the time that they said they would be here, but no one came. I have still not received any phone calls from tri-state. I am at a loss as to what to do at this point… Though I do feel that my American home shield fee should be refunded to me since I have not gotten the service I paid for.

The cost continues to rise and getting a bit expensive especially if there’s a down payment for service. So far this service has saved me $500 but at $77/mo I don’t think that’s a huge return on investment…rethinking this coverage.

AHS is always there. They will always send a technician, sometimes they're good sometimes not. If there is a problem with a technician AHS will try to resolve it but, they are not always on your side.

Upon my request for service, the first contractor was dispatched immediately and was extremely responsive. However the repair was out of his range. The work order was redispatched. After 24 hours I called the 2nd contractor to schedule appointment, only to find out they do not do the repair either. I called AHS and once again re-dispatched work order. I will be calling contractor #3 today as it’s been 24 hours. Unfortunately the online reviews of this 3rd contractor or horrible but hoping my experience will be better. Meanwhile water continues to leak inside my home.

They lack character. no integrity, Poor overall, customers service. decptive practices. lack of consistent follow up and the worst company that I hd to deal with. I pay for 3 years of warranty and they could not fix anything . I have decided to walk away because their contractors came to my home 6x but couldn't figure out what was wrong with my Microwave oven I decided to walk away with a non working microwave ager paying $1800 for 3 years and $400 for 4 initial time they came out to diagnose. it is a total waste of time and $$ most ridiculous company ever. Please don't waste your time with this so call AHS. the worst warranty company ever. It was an experience Ill never forget and Ill never try or recommend this to anyone
