We purchased solar in April of 2021 after the big freeze and 100hrs without power...nothing was installed and there was no communication until September of 2021. We finally had it installed and they went through TriSmart as the contractor. HORRIBLE experience! The WHOLE experience has been absolutely horrendous! We are having trouble with our bill, finding providers, the cost that we were quoted versus what we are ACTUALLY spending, plus the loan payment... We went from paying $200-300 a month for electric in a 3200 sqft house to paying about $1000 with the loan for the panels, the other equipment needed, and the price of the electricity. I would never, ever, buy from them again. I wish that we had been able to do breach of contract or fraud. We are still waiting on our Tesla battery walls and the fence that we were supposed to get. So, overall, in general, I would give them a 0-1! Vivint themselves are great as our security system but the rest of it ? HATE IT! We feel duped, frauded, shammed, scammed, whatever other synonym you want for stealing and being lied too.... #vivintsolar #vivint #trismartsolar #trismart

After 5 years with Vivint we needed to have our roof replaced. The Vivint salesman told us when were deciding whether to go with Vivint, they would remove and reinstall the system at no cost for a re-roof. Vivint then demanded $3,000 for this service. We talked them down to $400. They removed the panels in May 2021 and then couldn’t get it together to reinstall until 9 months later in late January. It took 10+ hours on the phone to get them to schedule the reinstall. On top of this breach of contract Vivint billed me for $669 worth of electricity that was NEVER PRODUCED BECAUSE MY PANELS WERE IN THEIR WAREHOUSE. I refused to pay since I got nothing and they sent my account to collection! This company is in disarray and they are shysters. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD I RECOMMEND CHOOSING VIVINT SOLAR, NOW SUNRUN. YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DO.

Been a customer for a long time. Reached out to them about my current bill asking to review it for I felt it was too high. After sending 1 years worth of SDG&E bills they inform me there is no difference in my usage. I wrote back disagreeing with them and stated since my install I have replaced house heater, replaced old spa that was not energy efficient, kids moved out and the wife and I both work and not home during the day. So how can my energy usage not drop? I have 27 panels for a 1300 sq inch home. My brother has 20 panels and a 3000 sq foot home. Go figure. They have yet to respond to my issues. Bottom line, look somewhere else.

a nice gentleman came to our house from Vivint ( Isiah S. ), good guy, but we were told (in hindsight) a massively exaggerated story about our solar savings. Our installation occured on August 3, 2018, and was up and running nearly 13 MONTHS LATER! Now the cake topper is that we get bills from Vivint that are Higher in the summer!! After being told that the most electricity is being produced in the summer, we expected lower energy cost ... not higher. BTW, still receiving bills from National Grid. If you are searching for the ABSOLUTE WORST SOLAR EXPERIENCE, you have come to the right place. Anybody BUT VIVINT/SunRun. The one star is to complete the review, but they actually deserve zero. If I could remove the panels myself, I would, and scrap the metal.

Very expensive take over of a previous solar contract. Inability to get a bill to pay from either Vivint or Sunrun websites or apps resulting in "past due" status of my bill. In less than a month I've been bombarded with calls about a bill I wasn't able to view or pay due to "bugs in the system" caused by the switch to Sunrun. I have been responsible for this lease for less than a month and after many calls and requests for a bill I can pay I've received notices through the Sunrun app (finally) and e mail that the amount is over $450!!! FOR LESS THAN A MONTH! I can understand why the previous owners were so eager to get out from under this very expensive and disorganized catastrophe of a company and lease if their experience was similar!

I am not sure where to start on my experience with Vivint Solar, so I will just start with this. My experience with Vivint has with out a doubt, been the worst experience I have had with any single company. For those wanting just a quick review, do not use this company. Including a reasonable amount of time to file the paperwork due to covid and possible staff shortages, it took them almost 10 months to finish the process. Throughout the process, they failed to meet their own set expectations, and repeatedly shifted blame to other companies for issues they were suppose to take care of. The technicians have been horrible (up until the final one that got everything working) – and the customer service has been worse than some of the big cable companies. No exaggeration needed. If you want more specifics, here they are. It is a bit of a story so get ready. I purchased my home and was moved in by the end of December 2020. That purchase included a Solar system installed by Vivint, which were installed prior to moving in. As of 9/28/2022, they have finally been turned on. When the system was first sold to me, I was told it would be a 2–3-month process, including any delays that may have been a result from covid. It wasn’t until the 3-month mark that I even had a service technician come to my home to, what I thought, was turn the system on. Turns out, the process had not even been started. You see, they had not put on the proper stickers which was required to submit the paperwork to my energy provider, and this had delayed them three months. At this time, I attempted to contact my sales agent to request information on what was happening. I left multiple voice messages, E-Mails, and text messages to their work addresses, with not a single response. When I call the direct customer service line, I get transferred on average 2-3 times until someone figures out how to get me to the ‘New Home Builder’ department. Of course, it’s not someone that works in my state, so they say they will look into it then usually do not get back to me. I do want to note however, I did get one manager out of California who stayed in contact, and at least attempted to get me information. Sadly, there wasn’t much more they could do about it. Big props to that manager for at least trying. June 21st, 2021 (so another 3 months) I received an email saying they had site approval and would be submitting documentation to my energy provider. When I called to ask questions about this, I was informed that they were communicating with the energy provider to ensure proper documentation was submitted, and that was the cause of the delay. I contacted the energy provider regarding this, and at this point they still had received zero contact from Vivint, including any phone discussions or paperwork. July 21, 2021 - One month later, I received a text message from Vivint (not a phone call mind you, just a text) stating that the issue with my energy department is working on being resolved and I am now being moved up to a “Priority”. As of August 6th, I received a notification from my energy provider that they had received the documentation and I needed to do signatures in order to move forward. Those were done immediately and sent in. So now, we are at 8 months from install date, for Vivint to submit the correct paperwork. September 3th, I finally got authorization to operate my panels from the energy company. Excited to finally have my solar turned on, I followed the steps emailed to me only to find out that there was no solar being generated and there was an issue with the system. I contacted Vivint and my new rep that texted me, multiple times, and was told that a technician would call to schedule. I did not get a call to schedule until September 23rd. Three weeks after that request was submitted. The tech then tried to schedule me a few weeks out and after a little discussion, I was able to get him to show up earlier. Turns out, the installation was not done properly, and a few more things needed to be turned on. The final technician was great. Leave it to the guys on the street to apologize for their company’s poor business practices. The tech made sure everything worked and got me fixed up and running in no time. And in case you were wondering, I was so passed angry at this point that I made sure I was as polite as I could be to the service tech that showed up. This wasn’t his error, even though he tried to take responsibility. This is an abridged story. I won’t go into much detail about the hold times, constant phone calls for answers, or the multiple emails and text messages giving me status updates that were inaccurate. This was a horrible experience, and unfortunately, I was left with little recourse since the panels were installed so early. If you decide to go with Solar, avoid these guys at all costs. Unless you want to wait almost a year for paperwork to get processed. -Jeremy F. Furman

The salesmen are very friendly, but use very aggressive and predatory sales tactics to try to get you under contract as fast as possible. The actual product is extremely overpriced. The average cost in my state for solar panels is $2.90/Watt, and the contract their salesman convinced me to sign was for $4.50/Watt. They trick you with this too, by showing their price with the tax rebate, comparing to the cost of other solar panels without the tax rebate. This is a borderline (if not) fraudulent sales tactic. Then they delayed the installation 4 times over 2 months before I finally did some digging, and realized just how much of a scam Vivint really is. Called off the contract the next day. I'm glad that I got out before it was too late, but if they hadn't pushed back the installation date multiple times, I would have never known. I still had to pay a few fees, but a few hundred dollars is nothing compared to paying $42,000 for a $12,000 system and maybe $4,000 of labor. Got a better system for less than half of the cost after breaking the contract. Don't fall for these predatory salesmen.

We signed up for this service on March 3rd, the representative sat in our dining room and told us we would be in service before summer, 6 months later we’re still waiting. Customer service does not assist you when you call them for an update, I’ve requested to speak to the area manager regarding all the issue with misinformation provided by numerous field representatives, which seems to be an easy request, however no one has ever been professional enough to return my call. If I could go with any other company I would, if you should go with them my recommendation would for you to have them put it in writing by when you will be in service and if they don’t meet the deadline they will pay your electric bill till the completion is completed, overall very unprofessional service from field representatives to customer service. Would never recommend them!

Worst decision I have ever made going with VIVINT!!!! Where do I begin.... If Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Kaczynski and Ted Bundy were my neighbors and looking for solar I would not even recommend Vivint to them! First it took about 6-8 extra weeks for my panels to be turned on after the install then they said it would. Second they said we would not have a pigeon problem because the panels were so low profile and close too the roof that pigeons would not get under them. Guess what we had a pigeon problem, then they wanted a couple hundred dollars to install pigeon guards. Now we noticed a couple of high electric bills. We called them and they said "Oh you are not producing as much electricity as we originally calculated." ( They also said at the time we purchased them that they would be monitoring this, which they clearly were not.) Anyway they said they would start looking into it and call us in 3 business days, they did not. We had to call them back and they said the call did not get "processed" correctly and they would call us back in another 3 business days. I have had 3 houses in 2 states and have never had this poor of customer service.

The worst customer care I've ever encountered, probably after DMV. We're trying to take over an account on the house we're buying, we need to update the name on the agreement, so we had to email 5 different addresses, no one propper answer. Attempted to call many many times, no success. If you're VERY lucky, you can get a hold of someone on the phone, who is incredibly incapable of even understanding your problem, and also not even located in the US. The people who answer your call from customer service are located in Phillippines. And they don't speak English properly. They don't understand your street name, even the way you spell the letters. The phone line wasn't even connected properly. And it broke twice, I had to spend two hours only to get someone on the phone. Another woman answered the second time, I couldn't even hear her because of the wind noise coming from her background. She also didn't understand what I'm saying in English, let alone understanding my problem. And that call also broke. I asked her where she is, and no surprise, she is also in the Philippines. Unbelievable. Good job Vivint Solar. One star is even too much for you.

Had them since 2016. Roof leak Jan 2021 they removed panels after we HAD to pay them $500 for removal/reinstall. Supposed to reinstall April 19 bc only one install team in all of AZ even though our roof was recoated within a week of removal of panels. April 19, they showed up, said they didn't have right tools, left. Couldn't get in touch with anyone and they finally called in May to reschedule, for AUGUST. August came, they confirmed NINE times and then called day before to reschedule again for two days later, then they no showed. Case manager said they were on site reinstalling as she emailed me. They weren't. Panels have been in our side yard for EIGHT MONTHS going on NINE. No one is returning calls, case manager is ignoring us, and our utility bills have been nearly $1000 a month without the panels. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

This rating will change if Vivint does the right thing. I had my solar installed back in March. Shortly after, I left for deployment. My system was eventually turned on after its inspections and I thought I was home free. I do understand power consumption is more in the warmer months of the year so I was paying no mind to my SDGE net metering bills. I got more curious and started to dig into the bills a bit more. I found that they never set up my Solar Edge Inverter properly, so I cant track my production from overseas. I logged into my Vivint account and noticed I have ONE MONTH of production totaling around 19 kwh. ONE MONTH. So I get time to call and the rep old me only 4 of my 11 panels were actually working, which I don't believe because I still have ZERO production according to the Vivint website. I am holding Vivint responsible to cover all the months of high net metering bills since they were the ones that told me they monitored systems for lack of production. So why has it taken my due diligence to figure out this issue while it is their job? If this issue is fixed the way it should be, I will gladly change my one star review. I'm not holding my breath with this company based on all the negative reviews I have read.

Vivint Solar is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. The customer service people are in another country, they are very hard to understand and they have no idea what is going on. All they can do is take a message. When and if you get to an American they act like they are doing you a favor instead of a paying customer. My mother passed away and left me the house. I have been trying to put the panels in my name, that has been over a year now and still no change. Every time I call I have to remind them my mother is dead!!! Imagine the pain of reliving my mother dying every time I call them. I put a new roof on my house, it took sixty days to get me on the schedule. Now, I cannot get Vivint Solar to put the panels back on. It has been over three weeks and no one can help me. When I call them they tell me someone will call me back. Then they just flat out started lying to me. Now they will not even take my phone call. I am canceling the contract as soon as I finish writing this review. ANYONE IS BETTER THAN THIS COMPANY !!!!!!!!

I am an existing customer of Vivint Solar (now Sunrun) and would like to share my experience with the company. My system went offline and stopped producing electricity on May 20, 2021. When I noticed it (the company doesn't monitor outputs or does any scheduled maintenance) I contacted Vivint solar and asked for a technician. I was sent some instructions instead on how to troubleshoot the system. We performed all steps and confirmed that the system was not working. After multiple calls and emails, the appointment was scheduled for the middle of July - there was no availability earlier. After a month of waiting, the technician confirmed that the converter was broken and said they needed to order the part. Besides that, he mentioned that roof had a couple of leaks from the panels that he patched - glad that we had this appointment since routine maintenance is not a part of the company strategy. It is the end of July now. The system is still off, we are paying full bills to National Grid, and - wait for it - Vivint solar is still charging us for electricity that we don't produce. I contacted the billing department and was told that the money would be credited back to me 1-2 billings cycles after the system starts producing electricity again - as a result instead of saving I am paying double bills this summer.

I purchased Vivint Solar this year. They choose the amount of panels that was installed. After the install and turn up of the panels, I called and asked why my bill was so high. "You are billed for what is produced from the Panels that THEY said is needed" on top of that I asked if I can pay it off early and was told that I have to wait 6 yrs. You are not able to turn off the equipment. If the equipment is turned off they will "Estimate" the amount of energy that your house would produce. If I could rate them -10 I would. Everyone just PLEASE READ and FULLY understand what this company is doing.

I have had vivint solar since 2017. The service team sucks. I have been trying to get out of the contract by doing a buy out of some sort. I have spoken to five different people at this point and been given five different answers. When I speak to someone on the phone, I hear one thing. Then I get an email with contrasting info, extremely confusing and frustrating. Over the years, I have not saved a penny and I have spent more money in energy. I was duped by their sales team in the first place and now they wont let me just BUY the contract out and be done with them. NEVER again would I do business with this company or recommend them!

In my opinion this has got to be the worse solar company to deal with. Customer service is bad and panel maintenance is even worse. My first year true up was only $900, very acceptable. From that point on, the true up grew every year to over $4,000. It took over a year for Vivint to send out a service rep to take care of the problem. Whatever was done, worked. My true ups went back down. Now they are on the rise again and service seems to be non-existent. This was a bad deal for me, but not for them. They are still pulling $200-$300 out of my account on a monthly basis for the power that these panels are generating. So, where is the PG&E power coming from and why the huge true up bills? Nobody has been able to tell me, but the expense goes on. I'll have to take them to court to get an answer AND to get these panels removed. I wouldn't wish this action on anyone. Be forewarned as to what you might expect.

Vivint Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with. I've had my solar system for 4 years and am happy with the system but when you have to deal with customer service may the force be with you. I am eligible for the Referral Reward and submitted it in December 2020. It's been 6 months and I still haven't received it! I have been in contact with Vivint Customer Service since February and keep getting the run around and no one can get my Referral Reward sent to me. Always passing the buck to another department/person but no action. I have sent letters, called over 50 phone calls and as many emails to try to get it processed but to no avail. I am totally fed up with Vivint Customer Service and because of this would NEVER recommend Vivint to anyone. Although the system is great and I have no problems with the system, at some point you would probably have to deal with Customer Service and good luck with that. Sorry to give them such a bad rating for a good system but I have no other options.

I wish I could give ZERO stars Vivint Solar is only interested in getting a 20 year contract. If your solar production stops YOU have to be the one who discovers it which means monitoring it closely. If your solar production stops you have to call the company; told to wait 3 days for someone to contact you to set an appointment for a technician. Then, when they finally do call you have to wait another week before a technician will actually come out. The entire time you are NOT manufacturing solar. The entire time you are NOT banking any extra to the electric company. The entire time you are NOT running clean energy. And, Vivint owe you NOTHING unless you under generate what they have estimated for the whole year! The lack of care and concern run deeper. I have given them several bad reviews when asked "how did we do?" No one has EVER contacted me to determine the problem. EVER! Our solar production has been down several time in the first year we have had it. Now I see why they lock you into a 20 year contract. The "customer service" is a joke! They don't care!!! Buyer beware!!

Today is 3 weeks ago that we were supposed to have our panels reinstalled. Work we have already paid for. While it was nice that Vivint Solar made a reply on here to pretend they care about customer service, clearly they do NOT. During this 3 week period, no one has called us to take care of our reinstall or removing the scrap metal from our yard. Let this be a lesson learned to others. DO NOT do business with this wanna be solar company. Vivint / Sunrun has the WORST customer service you will ever experience. DO NOT waste your time or money with them. We had our panels removed by Vivint and they placed them and the metal piping all over our property, assuring us it would only be for a few days while our roof was repaired. After the roof repair, they laid off the crew that removed our panels and bumped us to the end of the schedule, now telling us that it will be the end of July or first part of August before they will come back to reinstall the panels. In the meantime we asked them to come remove the sharp scrap metal from our yard as we have children that play here. We have spoken with 8 different people when we have called and not one person will call us back to come remove the scrap metal and they won't move up our reinstall date that we have already paid for. Horrible Customer Service at its best!

I purchased a home with their panels on a lease - the owner was very disappointed in that the savings were none existent over his previous electric changes. I wanted to purchase the panels out right when we bought the house but got a run-around. We purchased the house in spite of the panels as the seller needed to sell and we liked the house. I have now been told we can only purchase the system upon selling the property. I was told if we are not selling we can not buy the system until the 20 yr lease is up. What a rip off. I would like to just have them take the panels back and I could purchase a system from a quality company.

I am a senior who had an alarm system installed by this company--it was an unsolicited service in that a salesman came by my house. The company followed up the next year with a smooth talking salesman--I hope you compensated him well because his tongue was as smooth as any Eden serpent. In any event, I was promised great savings, and was told that I only had to make a small monthly payment for the panels. Now, I am being forced to sell my home and the title company uncovered the lien on the panels. They were quick to issue a payoff of about 16,000; however, when I tried to speak to someone about negotiating this fee--also be advised that they linked me to their financing company and deducted the payments automatically from my account--every person on the phone claimed it was not their department. In addition, the title report revealed an open permit caused by their failure to complete the process. When I inquired about that, I was given a phone number to call and it was a private person's cell phone. In sum, any savings I enjoyed was offset by the mysterious monthly payment, and the payoff indicates about 20 years of indebtedness. I would be deceased by the time these panels are paid off--if they even last as long. This company is a scam. Stay away, especially if you are a widowed senior. I felt as if I was clearly taken advantage of and I will take this further.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Because I have more panels than I need due to the electricity my family uses, I was told by Vivint that I could have some of the panels remove if I send them a year of electricity bills. I did. After several attempts to proceed and many promises not fulfilled, a year later I find out they closed my case without informing me. And when I tried to speak to someone regarding it, there was no one available. They reverted to their usual lie: someone will call you back. They never do. The absolute worst company to do business with. PLEASE DON'T.

I have the Vivint security system which works fine so i thought I'd try Vivint solar. I've had the system about several months now. The installation was okay but i don't see any savings and now I'm getting two bills, one from the electric company and one from Vivint solar and the Vivint solar bill keeps getting higher to the point where it is higher than before solar installation. The app provides pretty useless information. I mean, yay for the environment (i guess) but the whole thing was not worth the trouble and since there are no tax benefits when you lease the system you end up asking yourself, "why did i do this?"

Not off to a good start. We were told it would take a while to get it up and going and "a while" was more than the 6 months that we were told. Whatever. Panels finally up, power company finally did whatever they needed to do and then it took Vivint another month to do whatever they had to do. Whatever. Panels are up and apparently activated. Except they have never worked. We have had tons of sun and I notice after a few weeks that there's no power showing in the app, so I contact Vivint. I was told that there was something wrong with my system and someone would contact me in 1-3 days. Not happy that I still have to wait but I live with it. A week comes and goes and no contact. I contact Vivint again and they claim they called the next day. I have no such call. Full of crap. Finally I get someone to call me and a maintenance visit scheduled. When is that maintenance visit? At the END of next month! So now that will be TWO months with this crap on my roof and nothing to show for it. Not to mention that the salesman was deceptive and told us that this was a special program that our state was running and our state has no such program. I hate that we did this. Should have done more homework and went with another company.

Vivint does not know how to follow-up. They never call you back, despite promises. I have had to fight tooth and nail for simple statuses and getting them to take the next step operationally. They do not meet their timelines and the Customer Care people cannot interact with who they need to to get answers to questions. The departments cannot call each other; it is all "Third Party". They can only email and talk via 'Chat' and message each other. They do not follow-up despite promising to contact you in terms of answers to emails. You cannot be cc'd either on the emails sent. They fail to address the customer issues as well. No one commits to saying, I see you are having a rough time. Let me make it a point to call you on a regular basis until your installation is complete. Not one customer service rep or supervisor will do that, even if you ask for that. The lack of transparency and communication is gross. If you can avoid doing busiess with Vivint Solar, do so.

We had a serious roof leak from the solar panels not being installed properly. The solar panels had to be removed in September 2019 so that we could have a new roof & sheathing replaced. The solar panels were not re-installed until November 2020. Vivint continued to bill us even though we had no solar panels on our roof from September 2019 thru July 2020 . We have corresponded with Vivint over multiple emails and many different representatives and assigned many case numbers to address a refund for the 11 months of charges. Vivint issued a refund of $499 reimbursing us for the solar panel removal in 2019 but never refunded the charges that we paid without those solar panels on the roof. We have since moved to another home and are not able to access the account information. Vivint has not responded to our emails since January 26, 2021.

The only part of the process was the initial contact and home evaluation. Very clear understanding of the cost savings as well. The scheduling of the panel installation took three months. we were told the delay was due to the merger of the two companies tiers, the increase in demand and shortage of installers. Not good news for us. When the crew came, the one day installation took three days, spread out over four days. Some excuses about communications, blah, blah. Finally, the date to upgrade our panel came. One person showed up for what was clearly a two person job. He couldn't do it so more calls to the sales rep and his boss to get this part done. I still don't know when this whole process ends so I can cut the cord with SCE.

Kim Vrzal ,

We have had our panels, which we had 35 installed on our home which should be producing 120%, since the fires in California summer of 2020 they have been producing at if we are lucky 30%. Before the electricity was shut down last August we were generation more than we were using from the Electric Company, since then all our credit as been depleted and we have owed over $200 for our electric bill, we were told since we had so many panels that we would always be producing credit. I have contacted them 4 times to just have a tech come physically check our system to make sure everything is working properly, they continually tell me that we are producing at over 100% and that everything is fine. If we were producing over 100% we would not have to be paying the electric company. So frustrated, obviously they do not care about their customers.

If I could give 0 stars I would as rating. In August 2020 when we were working with account manager Brittany H everything seemed to go smooth and after we made a full payment the installation of the panels happened in November after approval of association paperwork etc. After the solar panels were installed we have not been able to reach Brittany . She will not reply to email or a phone call and has blindsided us. We need to get our system activated in order to get benefit. Right now we are still paying EDISON . We went through COSTCO because of their great reputation but after this I would not recommend VivintSolar/SUNRUN to anyone. They keep you hanging. I have tried to call customer service twice and they will put you on hold and say we will call you back in 2 days. Guess what, no one calls back.....Really bad experience , do not go with the company

I am so frustrated for the past 2 years my panels have been experiencing issues my panels had not worked for 3-4 months they sent someone out they worked for 1 or 2 months and stopped . they sent me info to troubleshoot the system! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I asked to be compensated for the months that they had not worked they asked for a year worth of utility bills which I supplied them with small credit given not even a month or two. I called today to inquire again because my panels are not working! why are you billing me and I have not generated nor is my system working?? It's a scam you are stuck in a 20-year contract which we had no Idea we are leasing for 20 years !!! do not use this company they don't give straight answers our salesman has left the company because of the terrible practices. We were told we would save so much money we are not saving because we are paying the electric company and Vivint. Please RUN the salespeople lied to use offered rebate and in the end, we are the loser stuck in a 20-year contract of nothing! We were told we would have so much energy, we would always be banking and storing energy for the winter months supplying our neighbors helping our community NOT TRUE.. our home sits in direct sun.

Do not do it! It is a scam! You will sign your life away! Vivint Solar (also called SunRun) is a company that will woo you into thinking they are customer-oriented, responsive, and helpful. Their sales-team is on the ball, ready to get you to sign their contract. When they talk you through the contract, it looks like a win-win situation. This is what they tout: "No up front cost! I was so ready to do my part for the fight against climate change and start using solar energy, plus get a huge discount on my bill, but I did not read the fine print of the contract. You will sign your life away by signing this contract! Do not do it! Once you have signed their contract and the solar panels are on your roof, they forget about you. . Customer service is unreliable and unable to do anything for you. Managers are unhelpful and never call you back. They use stall tactics. Here is the reality: 1) Your utility bill does NOT go down. It goes UP. Read the fine print! You have to pay for all of the energy your solar panels PRODUCE. Not the energy that you CONSUME. So, if you live in a sunny climate, your panels are going to be constantly producing energy. You will PAY for this energy! Even if you are away on a trip, not using any energy. It's not what you consume, it's what the panels produce! 2) They say they will never place a lien on your home. Guess what? They not only placed a lien on my home, they placed TWO liens on my home! 3) You have to pay them for 20 years! And every year you will see a 2.9% increase. Which is way higher than any increase you will see from your local utility company. Eventually, you are going to be paying through the roof for leasing those solar panels from Vivint. 4) Your roof needs repairing? Forget it. This is where their customer service starts to fail miserably. You need to give them at least 30 days notice. You have to pay a fee to remove and reinstall the panels. You can never get a hold of them. Never mind if your roof is leaking. 5) If you move these are your options: a-you can transfer the system to the new homeowner, b-you can take the system with you, at your own expense and provided that your new home is located within their service territory AND where the sun exposure is not less than your current property, c-you can buy the system from them, whatever the price that they set! Bottom line, don't do it! THEY ARE LIARS AND CROOKS

I had solar panels on the front side of my roof in 2015,and 3 years later was recommended to get panels on the backside of house to save more money(completely false). Now im having leakage on the backside of my house, and they sent out a tech and THEY said its not caused by their panels, its caused by the flashing on the chimney, with is also false I had my chimney inspected, and I had a professional roofer come check out my roof, and its being caused by a one of the screws that went right through my roof of the panels mount when they installed it.vivint is refusing to fix it,and not willing to waive the fee's to have panels removed to replace my roof that clearly isnt caused by chimney.. this company is charging $499 for front and $1650 for backside!!! Total rip off and the worst agreement i have ever done!!! I have started to take legal actions and sent over the contracts, and the roofers statements and photos to my attorney to help me with this problems. I am going to fight to have these panels permanently removed, and recommend anyone NOT to invest in vivint sloar, they are a rip off and you do not save any money, you will deal with headaches for the next 20yrs,if you decide to sign up with them.i am not the only customer going through this,so please look elsewhere!!! Im warning you, do research on this company and save yourself the headaches..I live in the Springfield area in Massachusetts.

Worst decision I have ever made my whole entire life. Please stay away from Vivint Solar. They have the worst customer service and even worst "Executive Resolution Experts". My panels never work like they're supposed to and as of now have been waiting over 60 days for someone to figure out what's wrong this time. according to their contract, we are to have resolutions to issues in a timely manner or else the company is in Seller's Default and should be allowed to break the contract. However, when the company is able to decide what a timely resolution is, you will never win or get them to give you the work required. AND DON'T LET THEM BLAME COVID. This has been an issue since April of 2019. Long before COVID19. Save yourself the trouble and stick with NV Energy. At least when you call NV Energy you get someone from this country that knows the details of your account without having to put you on hold for over 15 minutes to "Check their resources". Stay on the Grid people!

I purchased a new home where I inherited by Vivint solar contract from the previous owner. I signed a contract where my Kw/p rate was 12 cents per Kw. I knew my experience was going to be sub par once I signed the contract and my rep's communication completely fell off. I was told that they're having issues connecting with my system and that I need to connect the system with wifi. I told Vivint that I just moved in and I don't have anything set up yet. I was warned that I would get a full system rate if I don't get my wifi up in a timely manner which is ridiculous. I ended up getting my wifi installed the following week and connected the vivint system to it. I was told there was still some communication issues and that I need to read through a PDF trouble shooting doc to resolve my issue. I read the entire doc and reset the system like I was instructed to. That didn't work and I was told that they would send out a tech that I'd be charged for. I spoke to a supervisor and explained why me being charged for a system I inherited is outrageous, and he agreed. He told me he's going to send out a tech to take a look at my system. I also explained to the supervisor that I'm getting harassed by calls from their collections department because I apparently own $176 for my first month of use which is even more infuriating because I live in the house solo and I'm only here half the time so why would be rate b 4x more than I was expecting. I was then told my rate is 17 cents per kw which is completely false because I never signed anything stating that rate. The supervisor agreed and apologized and told me I'd get a credit back for the $176. I, specifically, asked the supervisor if I'd need to follow up or will someone reach out to me? He said someone would reach out to me after the tech comes out. I received a text stating a tech would come out on oct 8th between 8am - 11am and would that time work for me. I agreed and took the day off work because I really wanted to resolve the issue. The tuesday before the apt, I got another text saying they have to cancel my appointment and need to reschedule and they asked me when a better time for a reschedule would be which is strange. I asked what are my options and 2 days later I got a text response saying thursday oct 15th could work and I agreed. I took another day off and they cancelled on me again through text. They finally came the following saturday and the tech said there's nothing wrong with my system and everything looks okay. I waited for a follow up call like I was promised but didn't get anything. Instead, I got a call for the vivint collections department saying my outstanding balance is over $400 now. I explained the situation and was told this would be handled promptly. Over the next 2 weeks I was called 2-3 times daily from the collections department. I finally called back because the collections people couldn't transfer me the the correct department so I decided to call myself. I spoke to another supervisor that admitted to all the fault being theirs and that he would escalate the issue to a department that handles extreme issues. He also assured me that I would get a credit back for everything. I also told each customer service person and supervisor that my system is running all 4 solar panels and that I would only need 1 because I'm rarely here and I live alone. I was told that shouldn't be an issue but it hasn't happened yet. One supervisor even told me to tell anyone calling from collections to "check the notes and hang up." His name was Carlos G. Fast forward a month later and I still haven't had a single issue resolved. I'm consistently getting 2-3 calls per day from their collections department. I have to answer because I hope one of the calls is going to be a resolution and not about collections. I believe my outstanding balance is over $600 now. I've been apologized to and reassured at least 5 times by vivint customer service and supervisors and they all state the my case if very rare but I find that hard to believe because they've been terrible to work with on every level.

I would not and will never recommend Vivint Solar to any of my friends or family. The customer service is terrible. They take several days if not over a week to respond, often respond without enough information to address the issue, require constant followup to get resolution and when you call someone on the phone all the customer service agents are difficult to understand as english is not their primary language not to mention their overall lack of knowledge of their product and services. First issue, I had a period of 2.5 months (between July-September) where my solar production dropped to less than half of what it should have been. When logging into my account it told me that I had a hardware malfunction. I contacted customer support and it took over a week to get a response. The response I got was that they would look into it. I had to continue to baby sit customer support as they did not follow up on the issue. They also refused to send a tech out to look at the equipment to see what the malfunction was. Later I was told it was a firmware issue with the inverter and I had to wait for the manufacturer to push out an update. I suspect the real issue is that my system was performing too well and they scaled back the production so that I won't exceed the predicted yearly production for my system. Second issue, never once was I offered the option about having or needing bird stop installed around the panels. So Vivint didn't install it. Now I have a pigeon coup on top of my roof, the solar panels are covered with bird droppings and the last time it rained it washed off the panels and down onto my back patio leaving a horrible mess. Third issue, I signed a 20 year lease with Vivint for the solar panels which had an agreed upon price per month for each year of the lease. I come to find out after 9 payments that I've been charged more than what I agreed to in the contract. Vivint is unwilling to provide any explanation for the increased charges nor correct the payment to the agreed upon monthly payment. There are plenty of solar companies out there, I recommend finding anyone other than Vivint Solar as I am regretting my decision.

Karena ,

Vivint Solar (also called SunRun) is a company that will woo you into thinking they are customer-oriented, responsive, and helpful. Their sales-team is on the ball, ready to get you to sign their contract. When they talk you through the contract, it looks like a win-win situation. This is what they tout: "No up front cost! You pay less per kwh than your local utility company! It's a win-win for the environment and for your utility bill!" I was so ready to do my part for the fight against climate change and start using solar energy, plus get a huge discount on my bill, but I did not read the fine print of the contract. You will sign your life away by signing this contract! Do not do it! I originally found Vivint Solar while walking through Costco. I always trusted Costco products and services, so it didn't occur to me to doubt this company. If I had only read a few of the reviews, I would have known better. Through the Costco contract, I was going to take out a loan and buy the solar panels. However, Vivint Solar convinced me that leasing was the better way to go. They baited me, and then switched me to their lease contract, which is completely one-sided. You can't get out of it! Once you have signed a contract and the panels are up on your roof, there is no going back, and they forget all about you. No more customer service. They just don't care about you anymore. You will see other reviews where people have tried to cover their panels with black tarps, so that they will stop producing energy. But this is in breach of the contract. It states specifically that you cannot obstruct the panels in any way from sunlight. 2) They say they will never place a lien on your home. Guess what? They not only placed a lien on my home, they placed TWO liens on my home! I couldn't sell my house! By the way, a UCC-1 Financing Statement is a lien. It's the same thing. 3) You have to pay them for 20 years! And every year you will see a 2.9% increase. Which is way higher than any increase you will see from your local utility company. Eventually, you are going to be paying through the roof for leasing those solar panels from Vivint. 4) If your roof needs repairing? Forget it. This is where their customer service starts to fail miserably. You need to give them at least 30 days notice. You have to pay a fee to remove and reinstall the panels. You can never get a hold of them. Never mind if your roof is leaking and monsoon season is starting up. If you actually do talk with someone who knows what they're talking about, and has any authority, then it will take 30 days for them to even cash your check. Then they will call you to set up a date another 15 days after that for a team to come remove the panels. It is a pain to get ahold of anyone who can actually help you. By the way, I found out my roof had over 90% hail damage from a storm that occurred before the panels were installed. This means Vivint solar installed their panels on an already damaged roof, even though they told me they did a thorough inspection beforehand. 4) If you move these are your options: a-you can transfer the system to the new homeowner, b-you can take the system with you, at your own expense and provided that your new home is located within their service territory AND where the sun exposure is not less than your current property. c-you can buy the system from them, whatever the price that they set! So, in my case, the new homeowner did not want solar panels from Vivint Solar (imagine that, they actually read the reviews). I could not take the panels with me because I was moving to a location where Vivint did not provide service, so my only option was to buy the panels. I could not get out of the contract any other way. How much do you ask? I had to buy them for $20,000!! This is way higher than if you were to just buy some solar panels on your own. And again, trying to get ahold of customer service and then anyone who could actually tell me how much it was going to be to buy myself out of the contract was nearly impossible. Managers are reluctant to help you and never call you back. I finally called Costco, and they helped me get ahold of someone with authority. Bottom line, if you're going to go with Vivint Solar, only do a purchase contract through Costco, so you have another company backing you up. Do not sign a lease agreement! Read the fine print. Or just don't do it. Go with a different solar company.

I bought a home with purchased Vivint solar system in August. The previous owners reached out to Vivint in mid-July to transfer the solar to me, but I discovered now in September that the transfer was not yet completed. Their customer service is impossible to get to by phone, it ends up in a voicemail box that is full! The chat feature on their website works, but I heard absurd things there such as I can only be added as an authorized user by the previous owner, and a transfer cannot be done. So, on one track, I started the process of becoming an authorized user, and finally was able to login to Vivint and verify that my system was down. The previous owners were very nice and forward their conversation with Vivint, and so when I followed up on that email, the transfer person resumed the transfer process that was put on hold for some unknown reason. They asked me to send information that the previous owners had already provided as part of the transfer process, which I did. I am still not sure where they are at on the transfer. After spending days running around to get my account approved, when I was finally able to login, I discovered that my Solar production was down for more than a month :( Now I am waiting for the next step by Vivint in troubleshooting my solar production. The most annoying parts of dealing with them were: 1. Terrible careless customer service in the transfer process (inaction for two months after the previous owners provided all necessary details). 2. Run-arround and confusion on the transfer: One rep says I can only be added as an authorized user while the other is continuing the transfer process in parallen. 3. A customer support line that has long wait times, and then ends in a voicemail box that is full. There is also an option for requesting a callback on the customer service line, and guess what... when that callback happens, I get to hear the voicemail box full message!!

I don't suggest this company at all!!! Seriously too many problems to even list with them and once you're locked in there's no way out no matter how many problems you have with them. I still receive an electric bill ontop of the vivint bill. Their customer service is atrocious and none of them have any common sense or even knows about the company they work for and if they ruined your roof while installing they tell you it wasn't them, never did i have a leak in my roof till vivint came along and I had three separate rooting companies tell me it was vivint NOT natural causes from the weather. Either do some serious shopping around for a reputable solar company or just dont get them at all because with vivint you're in for years of locked in headaches and nothing but aggravation. If I could give this company negative stars I would.

Worst customer service imaginable. It took them at least 10 (maybe 20?)tries to produce the correct paperwork for me to sign and assume a lease. Then, they began billing me at the wrong rate. I have had at least 50 (no exaggeration - they call me every day) conversations with folks from Vivint trying to resolve the problem. The billing/collections department simply runs thru the script and asks me for money. I explain that I have opened a customer service case because I am being invoiced at the incorrect amount, at which point they apologize and transfer me to the customer service department. The customer service department says they have to investigate, and they put me on hold. The customer service agent comes back on the line and says, typically, something to the effect of "oh yes, we have an issue to resolve, and once we resolve it we will let you know." I can practically recite what they are going to say before they say it. The next day, I get another phone call from billing/collections. I mostly ignore them, but about once a week or so I answer, just to see if they have made any progress in correcting my lease rate. It's been months, and we're still on the hamster wheel. I get phone calls and emails every day. I have told them that they are welcome to come and retrieve their solar panels at any point. The solar panels seem to be working fine by the way, but let's be honest, those things are almost a commodity. The distinguishing characteristic between solar companies is their service, and Vivint gets a zero on that score.

I wished I would have read or found this website before I signed with them. I have 3 Tesla systems and so unhappy with Tesla that I would love to take a truck and yank them off my roofs. The systems are problematic and customer service is of the charts terrible. I needed additional generation on one system so I got hooked by Vivint at Costco. Their customer service makes Tesla look like angels. I have been waiting for more than a few weeks to get okayed to have the system turned on. Delay after delay, story after story and no one will return my calls accept a person from an asian country whose first language is not English. I am ready to take the system off my roof and throw it it the street.

Absolutely dissatisfied with the service, actually, lack of service! We were told repeatedly that the entire process from installation to activation could take up to six weeks. We waited patiently. 3 weeks went by after the panels were installed and we had t heard from anyone. A week later, we called to check on the status. We were told someone would get back to us soon. A week later, no one contacted us so we called again. We’re told the same thing. A week later we called again-we were on week number 6 so my husband refused to get off the phone until he could speak to someone that would get us moving again. After four transfers he finally got someone to set up what we thought was the last step, final inspection. We just had the final inspection and a day later get an email that they are processing our paperwork and it could take 2 weeks to 40 days to complete! This is unacceptable!

My 86 year old dad entered into a 20 year contract with Vivint - we asked what happens when he needs to sell house for his health care - no one would answer me expect to say we would sell the solar panels also. I don't think so! I want them removed but no one will give us an answer on how to do this. I truly think it was unscrupulous of the sales person to have my dad enter into a 20 year contract. When I contacted customer service to get anwers, I get passed from one person to another. The contract doesn't even say how this can be done. Also, signature on contract is absolutely not my dads.

I called vivant solar in September of 2019, they installed in November. quickly, but then nothing from them till late may 2020 .,that they are going to start the system? soon. I get a call and date, June 12 2020 they need someone home ., but then I get a bill for Vivant for may 22 to June 12? 53.68. but they didn't start the system or turn it on until 6/12/2020, and till today I still owe them that money cause ever time I pay the bill and they add the 53.68 I subtract it from the payment. now I am paying Jersey light and vivant more then I paid just NJ power& light.? Vivint's billed me 180 something, 127.30 - 53.68 and NJ light billed me $72 ,when my bill from NJ light was $150? do the math. I called vivant several times with no help or resolve. thinking about just changing solar companies since Vivant has done me wrong so many times. I have neighbors who asked me about them? till they get their shit vivant has void my contract in so many ways, I cant in good faith recommend them. they need to put more panels on my roof to make a difference and removed the 53.68 that I never got service for?.

Vibrant has been a nightmare to deal with. I’ve read other 1 star reviews and we’ve had the same problems. I suggest placing a complaint on the BBB website. We did and the next day we miraculously got a phone call and email! Our situation was completed in about 2 weeks (panel removal, new roof and re-installation) but that is thanks to my husband nagging the specialist. I will NEVER recommend Vivant regardless of finally getting something done. I thought my husband was going to have a stroke over the crap they spew. I understand they have been bought out by SunRun. I hope they do better because the contact we signed was not what we thought it was. This may be our fault for not researching and asking enough questions but we fell for their crap. Please do better for us SunRun!

I would like to not even grace the rating with a star. During the installation they were very attentive and promised us very low bills - 'we wouldn't even get an electric bill!' This is for a summer house which is unoccupied for large parts of the year. We are now overcharged by over $1200/annum from what they were before without solar. We cannot get in touch with them EVER . We have complained to the Better Business Bureau which prompted a response from them but we were unable to return the call as their voice mailbox is full. We have also lodged a complaint with the state attorney general. It's been three years of this. Stay well away!

I took over the service when I bought my home. No one ever explained how the panels and billing worked and they never re-assessed my usage. As a result I just found out that I have been overproducing since I took over the service and have overpaid at least $2,000 over 2 years. When I tried to make a complaint I was sent through several different people and was never able to get any information (address, phone number, etc.) for their corporate office. Before they will due a curtailment and remove the excess panels, I have to sign an agreement that says it's a one time curtailment and that I can't file any more complaints (there's a lot of other stipulations that don't sound right). In the meantime I am still overproducing and unable to get any resolve.

DO NOT go with Vivint. Vivint has one of the worst customer service ever. No accountability. No ownership. No one available to help when you really need them. But they do have people available to take your money. I WILL NOT recommend them to any of my friends or families. Our roof is in very bad shape. But in order for us to get it replace, we need to have Vivint come out to take down the panels. It has been almost a month after I paid the $500 fee to be on the waiting list to get the panel remove, and no response. I called them for an update and not one person I spoke with can help me. First person transferred me to a different department. Second person hung up on me after an hour of waiting. Third person is claiming I’m not authorized to talk about the account after 30 minutes. Wow!! My husband even tried their online chat and it was unsuccessful. I wish there was a way for us to term the contract we acquired from the pervious owners beside buying their panels.

VIVINT SOLAR: This goes back over ten (10) months. At the beginning I got several calls from the local representative, finally we set an appointment which involved a tour of our property (in September 2019), listening to a lengthy presentation, and finally connecting with his counterpart in Utah. I was pushed to sign a contract so they could have a site person come out and evaluate the property. This contract was suppose to include several points that the local rep promised but somehow forgot or changed their minds, even after a signed the contract. These points involved removing an older active solar system (four panels and two storage tanks, 80 gallon each, tree removal to allow better sunlight, improved electrical panel to accomidate this new system, new roof, and disposal of all waste material). Also in the contract, we were suppose to be charged $181 per month, going up 2-3% every single year for 20 years. The only update to this initial contract was the monthly cost, which is neat tucked away in the last few pages of a length 40 page contact. Nothing we talked about was ever entered into this contract. When I finally started to review the contract word for word, several things were left out, and the rate was over $205 per month, also going up 2-3% per year for 20 years. When I contacted the Vivant Solar HQ in Utah, I was bounced around from one person to another, I have names and numbers if anyone needs to check. We are now at 10 months, and everyone I talk with at their HQ is the same, please forward all correspondent between myself and the previous reps, so they can come up to date, so NO RECORDS were ever kept on our discussion or updates by Vivint. Also, they decided to refuse to disconnect the existing unit, which would involve a plumber for about 3-5 hours. Initially they were going to have a plumber quote the job before moving forward, lastly they decided I had to find my own plumber and they might consider the charge, but absolutely refused to put this in writing. They surprised me in December 2019, when I got a call that a electrician was going to show up the next day to do the electrical work. I contacted the local rep and he said they were ready with the design and all. I told him to modify the contract to reflect everything we have agreed upon, I did document all of this and sent him a copy of my notes, he never denied the notes. Starting the work would tie me into this contract for 20 years, so I refused to let the electrician start the work, THIS WAS THE BEST MOVE ON MY PART. Once work begins, I cannot get out of the contract, so obviously they wanted to get going as soon as they could based on the initial contract. They are so smooth!!!! As far as I know, Vivint Solar is not BBB accredited and has a warning alert of Government Action on their page, as well as 813 filed customer complaints over the last 3 years.  I could go on and one about the way they stretched the truth at Vivint. I honestly believe that they all take a course in stretching the truth. Each person needs to make up their own minds about Vivint, but I would caution ANYONE considering Vivint to get every single point in writing and have a contract notarized from them. I personally would never recommend them, especially with the way they change their stories from day to day. I told them from day one, this would not be a typical project and the local rep and his co-partner in Utah had no problem and wanted to move forward. Everyone should make up their own minds, but if you blink even once, you can be paying more than expected and not get what you had agreed upon with these people. And once you get them into a corner, they just tell you that the contract has been cancelled and your account closed, never giving consideration for months of wasted time. I am now working with another company, that is completely different from the two faced people at Vivant. I am just presenting my experience and letting people know the type of people that they will be dealing with at Vivint, a twenty (20) year contract is a long time, make sure of what you sign and expect, DO NOT put any stock in their sales pitch. I have been on your callback list for about 2 months now. I called the first week of April to have my panels removed so I could have my roof replaced. Was told because of the virus you were not scheduling installations or removals. Not an essential service? I lost my spotf for my roof replacement because of you. Called a couple weeks ago and was told I would get a call back within 24 to 48 hours, never happened. Waited till after Memorial Day and was told I would receive a call by the end of the week. Here it is Friday and no call again. Spoke with someone else who looked at my account and told me I needed to wait since I'm on the call back list. Also sounds like there isn't even a crew in my area? She said it could be 2 weeks to a month? How do you even do business if you don't have a crew? Do I have the option of trying to find someone local to remove and store panels so I can get my roof replaced. Also haven't had these panels 4 years yet. Why would you install panels of the roof needed to be replaced within 5 years?
