Panasonic is a global consumer electronics corporation headquartered in Osaka, Japan and founded in 1918. The company’s products span a wide range of industries, including automotive, entertainment, government, manufacturing, and energy.

In 1997, Panasonic released its first line of photovoltaic solar modules and has since produced more than 18 million high-efficiency cells. Panasonic’s solar arrays have been used in numerous applications, including residential, commercial, agricultural, and municipal markets. Its panels consistently rank among the best available in terms of energy efficiency and long-term durability. All Panasonic systems are protected by industry-leading warranties.

Industry-Leading Solar Modules

Panasonic offers a broad inventory of high-efficiency solar panels to help homeowners take full advantage of clean energy for their homes. Solar modules from Panasonic average greater than 20 percent energy efficiency and maintain at least 90 percent peak performance over the course of 25 years.

Additionally, Panasonic solar cells have an incredibly low temperature coefficient — meaning the company’s solar panels will continue to perform at a high rate even during extremely high temperatures.

Panasonic solar panels come in a variety of styles, sizes, and watt capacity, meaning they can be adapted to practically any situation, budget, or home style.

Solar Energy Storage Solutions

Panasonic also provides backup battery solutions in the form of its EverVolt™ Home Battery Storage system. The EverVolt home battery can store between 11 and 102 kilowatts of clean, renewable energy that can be used at night, in case of emergency, or as part of an integrated home system that includes EV charging solutions.

All EverVolt battery products come with a 10-year Panasonic warranty.

Tiered Solar Warranties

All Panasonic products (as installed by authorized dealers) come with one of two comprehensive, 25-year warranties: TripleGuard or AllGuard. Both warranties cover all Panasonic products used in the system, which includes the physical, Panasonic-branded components, as well as their performance. They also cover the labor, as applied to the solar modules, for 25 years. In short, if the homeowner reports any issue with the solar panels, Panasonic will likely be able to fix it at no cost.

Where the two warranties differ is in the extended coverage provided under the AllGuard Warranty. The AllGuard warranty also covers workmanship applied to any Enphase string or micro inverters, as well as Unirac or IronRidge racking systems used in the system for 25 years.

AllGuard also covers the labor used to install Enphase energy monitoring software for the first five years of system operation.

Halting Solar Cell Production in March 2022

In an effort to transform its manufacturing strategy to leverage the expertise of specialty contract manufacturing partners, Panasonic will no longer be manufacturing its own solar panels at its factories in Asia. While this shift toward third-party solar panel production may ultimately have little or limited impact on the residential solar market in North America, such moves are not without some level of risk.

In response to our query about the change, Panasonic maintains that “utilizing manufacturing partners will help [the company] continue to deliver high performing solar technology and innovative energy management products, as well as [its] industry-leading customer and dealer support programs.”

That said, homeowners can still purchase Panasonic-branded solar panels that undergo the same level of scrutiny and quality control as their original product line, and are covered by Panasonic’s comprehensive, industry-leading 25-year warranty.

Installer Variables

Panasonic does not conduct its own solar installations, but rather works through its installer network. While all Panasonic Authorized Installers must meet certain requirements to earn an endorsement from Panasonic, not all installers are created equal. Qualities like training and industry certifications can vary by installer, as can available financing options and overall price.

Homeowners are encouraged to thoroughly vet any prospective installer, even ones certified by Panasonic, before signing a service contract.

The Bottom Line

Panasonic’s place as a leading solar panel brand is beyond dispute. The company has pioneered several solar technologies making solar energy all the more accessible and affordable for everyday people. All Panasonic-branded solar energy systems come with robust warranties and are the result of decades of industry experience.

Homeowners can find a Panasonic Authorized Installer almost anywhere in the country, and are encouraged to read verified Panasonic Solar reviews as they evaluate providers.
