DirecTV can be a joke. I have had them for about 10 years and I cannot stand renewing my contract, for the dumbest reasons. Want to add a box and give them more money, add 2 years for that. Seems like every time I am in contract, I get horrible service. When I am out of contract, everyone treats me well. Customer service is a nightmare! I cannot stand calling customer service, feel like nothing is ever resolved and are always pitching you ATT products and services.

I have had direct tv for a little over 2 years. I asked the att rep in the att store about losing the tv during storms. His answer was that there was a 99% that the service would not be lost. I got the service. The day after direct tv was installed it rained. I did not have an tv for the duration of the storm. I called intermediately to conceal the service. I was told there was a $480 charge for canceling. So I did not conceal. Instead I have been experiencing no tv during a storm. I have started looking around for an alternate service. Lets see the options. I pay $191 a month for tv and internet. Google can give me Google Fiber and You Tube TV. The basic tv has 60 channels many of which I enjoy watching, unless it is raining. I would never recommend direct tv unless it was to someone I did not like.

We contracted with DirecTV in September of 2017, moving away from AT&T U-Verse due to rising subscription costs. Even though we have been AT&T customers for a couple of decades, DirecTV still required a 1-year subscription. Eleven months into the contract period, DirecTV added (without our permission) a sports package totaling $50/month in additional charges. The process to simply remove the package and obtain a billing correction required four (4) separate phone calls to their offshore call centers and a total of over two (2) hours of our time -- a process which should have taken less than ten minutes. At that point, even though we were still within the one year contract, we elected to cancel the service and move on. Accomplishing that required over three weeks and at least six (6) more phone calls, with our having to call at least one internal department because they could not get through to them. So WE had to call in order to get all services shut down. It was a ridiculous waste of our time. Because of these events, we CANNOT RECOMMEND DirecTV.

Having been a Directv customer on and off for the past several years, I wouldn’t say they’re the worst based on my past experiences with TimeWarner, now Spectrum. However, our recent experience has been less than satisfying. We have the system with a main receiver, a modem and wireless receivers at each of our other TVs. Initially the service was great with the normal exception of weather interruptions. For the past 2 months, we have been experiencing screens freezing up, slow to respond boxes and other obvious software issues. During our initial call for technical support, we were instructed to re-set the main receiver. Unfortunately the reset didn’t solve the issue. The technician advised that if the reset didn’t work after a few days that we could call and they would send a technician out to our home. After a week of continuous freezing screens we called back. This time (after several transfers) we were advised there would be a charge for a service technician to come out. After advising we wouldn’t pay for a technician to come to our home to fix their problem, they stated we could either sign up for their “insurance” at $8/month (then cancel after 6 months) or pay the $69-99 service charge, we simply stated we would then cancel our service. We were transferred yet again and upon discovering the reason for our dissatisfaction, were promptly given a $99 credit and advised that they could send out the technician at no cost. Again, poor overall customer service experience in that we had to threaten to cancel to get a sastifactory response. Upon agreeing to the credit, we were transferred yet again to the technical department where we were told the the issue we’ve been experiencing is a known issue with our type of receiver and that sending a technician wouldn’t help as it is a known software issue. After asking what the fix is several times the technician admitted that there wasn’t a fix at this time. So basically, we had to spend a total of 2.5 hours on the phone telling them about a problem we’re having that they clearly know about but cannot resolve. They cannot replace my receiver because they don’t have a fix. They cannot update my receiver because they don’t have a fix. Obviously, this should be a high priority issue at Directv, but apparently, it is not. My next request was a bill review because, obviously, I’m not receiving the quality of service I’ve been paying for. That fell on deaf ears, but I will continue to complain about this issue until it gets resolved. If we keep our service if and when the issue is resolved I will update my review. For now suffice it to say, as of 10/28/18 I remain a very dissatisfied Directv consumer.

The installation was all done in the way I requested. I asked for some specific routing into my house and the technician obliged. The service was mostly consistent. The monthly price was just too high for a price sensitive customer like me. I didn't have a need to contact customer service. They did not give me too much trouble when I made the decision to cancel. The advertising after I canceled was a little weak. The offers never seemed to get better.

As a DIRECTV customer of 4 years, I have always found their customer service to be friendly, informative and their service to be quick. The main issues I have, are the steady increase in pricing, multiple channels with the same programs and all the extra fees. I am slowly trying to wean my family off and over to Firesticks in order to save $170.00 a month for just news and DIY network.

Good service, except during storms. During any type of thunderstorm the service would always cut out. I would only recommend if you live in an area where that is not an issue, as you sort of need TV to see news during those things.

I used to love Direct TV. Had it for years and was pleased. My direct TV rarely is interrupted by weather and the customer service is always nice. BUT then AT&T got involved. Reception has gone way down for some reason and the programming is horrible. I downgraded because on my income I could not afford the $79 that kicked in after 12 months. A fact that I either overlooked or was not made aware of and since the contract is for 2 years I am stuck. Now I get 66 channels for $63.00.. Of those 66 channels 41 are sales channels and info-mercials, 8 are religious channels and 5 are Disney and kids channels. So I actually have 3-9-12-61-DIY-HGTV and hallmark to actually watch. Once in a great while there is a rerun on UP that is worth watching. I can hardly wait until my contract is up and I can get the exact same channels, minus all the infomercials for free with an outside antenna. I'm sorry but the price is stupid and gouges the public for absolutely no decent programming.

Good service, customer service. Too many useless channels. Getting too expensive, however. Been with DirectV for about 12 years. Cable not available where I live. DirectV is a better option than Dish (which I have had, in the past). Biggest complaint: Their reps repeatedly call trying to sell me more premium channels, despite my complaining that I wish not to be bothered.

Back around the first of the year I ended up getting in contact with one of their account specialists apparently well above the normal customer service rep. I was having problems again with the first drop of rain knocking my signal out.... Plus I wanted to get fewer channels since I only watch maybe 3 or 4 and two of those are locals and thusly lower my bill. She agreed to send out a tech since I had had problems with the alignment of the dish in the past and to cut my number of channels way back thusly lowering my bill a hefty amount.. The tech showed on time and checked the dish and I think made a slight adjusted and then wanted to check my receiver. He said he was amazed that my receiver was one of the really older ones and was bad. He replaced it and then told me I needed to sign an electronic pad once acknowledging that he had been here and then a second time as a receipt of a new box. Low and behold when the next billing cycle came around I was locked in on a new contract (the original one had long expired) and my bill didn't go down.. Watch what you sign folks and since I trusted the tech I didn't ask for him to scroll the pad back where I could actually read everything I was signing. 'My bad'! Trust is earned and they sure didn't earn any from me.

I am thinking of pulling the plug on these services and going back to the antenna. I have had Direct TV for many years. In the last 2 years they have raised my rate 7% each year. I wrote to the CEO and told him people living On Social Security and many others get only a 1,5% raise every year, could he consider a better rate for seniors. His reply to me was know replay at all. I kind of expected this because he probably makes a lot of money and could care less about his customers. My 2 years is up and I'm tired of paying for a company with channels repeat so many shows every week. Thanks for not taking care of your long time customers!!

We have been using DirecTV for a few years. The major problem has been loss of service during rain--not necessarily storms but just any hard rain. My biggest complaint is that they continue to offer better and better deals for new customers but keep jacking up the rates for long time customers. You would think that loyalty would deserve some sort of reward.

Direct TV is very good. My only problem is they do not offer a seniors package for seniors on fixed income that is affordable. My mom told me that she will be forced to terminate with Direct TV as soon as her contract ends because of the increase in cost of the service. I spoke with a representative and they did reduce her bill for six months and it will go back up.

Love direct TV and have had it for many years, but I hate the fact that they do not offer Pac 12 Network and the caller ID has not worked right since I upgraded to the new DVR.If I wasn't under contract, I would have changed to Comcast months ago. They offer Pac 12 and have reliable caller ID. For older people with bad eyesight, it is nice to have caller ID. Seems to be at the bottom of your priority list! If you don't get it figured ou, I will be changing when my contract is up!

Have had dtv for a very long time. While some programming is good they have the boomerang channel on top tier at which will have to stay at top tier cause that's what my kids watch at all times.. however now I am involved in a move and called dtv...instead of offering new deal at discounted price as commercial and mail says, I called and they said that I would have to stay with same pricing if I moved. No sense at all, hence the reason we are thinking of making the switch. Have been with them for a long time and no discounted rates anymore or anything, no customer loyalty. Glad not under contract and it appears won't have a new contract for move hence the reason maybe switching. Customer service is ridiculous as it seems Noone knows what is going on and get switched to so many different reps and keep explaining everything over and over...ridiculous

We subscribed to DirecTV as a cable service from 2007-2014, and then again as a streaming service from 2018 through the change to ATT.TV in mid 2019, and then through the change to DirecTV Stream again. The cable service was generally okay and customer service was not the best though they were at least reasonably reachable. Our main issues were billing and cost for which we terminated the cable service in 2014. I hate paying for channels I do not use. I had to create a monthly item billing matrix in Excel, which then allowed me to effectively and fully understand my bill at a glance each month and for which I was then able to catch some of their errors. I am not certain if those errors were intentional or not, but I am just a hair short of being certain, and sincerely believe, that their billing statement was intentionally confusing. I believe this is because when we actually understand how and why we are being billed, we are more upset than when we do not understand why our bill is going up, because in the latter case we do not know if there is an appropriate reason for increased or changed billing. The more uncertainty, the less likely we are to challenge the item, particularly since it is a major deal to have to change our TV subscription source. The streaming service was better based on cost/knowing what we are billed for and being better tailored to what we use. However, we still do use at least 2/3 of the channels (down from 5/6ths). When you add the cost of 1gb internet which is too often necessary to get decent uninterrupted service, then I think this is no better than cable, particularly when we still get streaming and software glitches and interruptions. Glitches and issues got slightly worse with ATT.tv and now is even worse with DirecTV Stream. Anyone who has followed the cable TV issue knows that the root problem is paying for channels we do not want. It is unequivocal that the great majority want an à la carte choice. But since they get less money for that, they refuse to allow that - at least in a cost effective way. You can buy many things à la carte today, but it will cost 2-10 times as much or more and purposely so. In this way, ALL CABLE AND STREAMING OPTIONS SUCK!

I like Direct Tv for the most part, but there are a few things that need to be addressed, like for instance when I told the guy on the phone I did not want “free” movie channels because they claim they are free but then show up on my bill for payment and they gave me the movie channels anyway. I then spent way too long trying to get it removed from my bill. It seems the more you watch certain programs, they remove the program from your package and then tell you you need to pay more money to keep the program, no I don’t think so. Also with any satellite, when it rains you loose connection, if it snows too bad you loose connection and end up having to go out and clean off the receiver.

I've been with Direct TV several times, I am with them now that they are part of AT&T. Normally I don't care for AT&T products. They are way too expensive and offer little for the money you pay for it. In the past Direct had major problems but I must admit AT&T has cleaned it up. The service good and its working most of the time. The price is in line or better than other Companies offering the same product. Everything is streaming now and it appears to be stable most of the time. The channel line-up is good too, there's a lot to choose from. Thumbs up so far.

Used to be a member of Direct TV for 12 years but their prices were getting too high. Customer service wasn't interested in offering a better price to a long term customer yet often deeply discount service to new members? I've never understood that. In any event, I liked their product and service, just felt it was over priced and they treat an unknown customer better that a 12 year customer so I went to DISH network basically same product but better price. I get calls all the time now offering discounts you snooze, you lose guys. One beef is seems you have to buy service on a tier level to get certain channels especially in sports and the channels I want Golf SEC etc... forced me to pay a good bit more and get many channels I'd never watch just to get one or two channels I do want. Be nice to have a basic package and then buy other individual channels. DISH is the same and the hulu and others too hate that

Why would a major network not be available. Don't get that at all. Luckily for me I don't watch much on that network. If I could afford it I would have Sunday Ticket but it costs way too much. Unfortunately there isn't anywhere you can watch NFL without paying if it isn't on one of the major networks.

Directv is a decent service. A bit expensive after the promo rate, and you get channels you're not really that interested in depending on the package you choose, but overall they're pretty reliable. I thought the quality of the picture was good. If there was a storm, I would lose service but you'll get that with any satellite company. Returns are a bit difficult so be sure to plan some time to have things picked up or they'll charge you for the equipment. Overall I'd say I'd recommend them.

I've been a DirecTV customer since 2007. Through the years, the service has been good. A few mishaps over the years due to reps not notating my account for billing issues which resulted in my account being closed and early termination fees being applied. I always kept the service, even through price hikes. Since the AT&T merge, customer service has went downhill. Hard to get reps that understand your issues; package pricing being out of this world. Channels are in higher tiered packages which has you paying $20+ to access one channel that is not included in a smaller package. With the news of DirecTV not being a good purchase for AT&T, I don't know what the future is for my service, but for the most part I appreciate them providing me with loyal customer promos to discount my bill over the cost of 12 months. Helps a lot.

Why can't I select from a menu of channels what I am willing to pay for and would like to have? We have two problems that haven’t been ironed out. 1. The TV shows will periodically freeze while we are watching them for a few brief seconds and that’s annoying. 2. For close to a year we were unable to receive KSL because the two companies were negotiating a deal - or NOT negotiating a deal. We were told to call in to receive some money taken off our bill, but when we did, they only gave us $10 credit and 3 months worth of the Smithsonian channel and channels that go with it. The way the credits were given was by Direct TV using ALL of their channels and dividing them up by the days missed, therefore we were penalized because we had a huge different package. We should have been given a MUCH bigger credit in our opinions! We do like the channels that we are receiving, though.
