I've been with American Home Shield since 2006. I've had a few service requests with them over the years. The majority of the time, everything from the timeless of the request to completion have gone smoothly. When my family and friends ask which home warranty company is good, I always recommend them (a lot of them have purchased their own home warranty. Last December, I put in a request for service on the 19th, it was fixed the next day (kudos for that). This past Monday (1/20), the heater went out again. I called today (yesterday was a holiday) to get a recall sent out I was told that my time to recall expired yesterday and would have to submit a new service request and pay the service fee again. To be honest if it was three months later, I would not have a problem doing resubmitting the request. I do have a problem when it's only been 31 days and they said there is nothing they can do about it because the computer won't let them put in a recall notice after 30 days. I think a 30 day repair on labor is ridiculous. It should be at least 60 days especially since they have been repairing the same heater for a number of years. If my elderly mother wasn't living with me, I would not resubmit the request.

We have had American Home Shield for the past six years on our previous home and only had two service calls with them. We purchased a home on 11/27/19 and moved in on. December second. American Home Shield lost the check from escrow for the year coverage and could not get service for the sewer stoppage when I needed it.Nor was able to get the home re-keyed so I had to spend out of pocket $180.00 . When my escrow company called them and provided them with a copy of the paid check I was able to get a contractor who only diagnosed the problem but did not clear the sewer and said it would cost 2,800 to 3,400 to replace the pipe. I then called another plumber and did not need the pipe replaced. He cleared it for much less. Then I had to call because the microwave blew up . It took the contractor over a month to fix. AHS refuses to replace the microwave . The technician also checked my cooktop that had non operating knobs and although it initially when I moved it had a small chip on the side, it cracked once I turned on the stove with te heat. Again AHS, refused to fix the glass top or the knobs!! This top is cracked and the glass is very unsafe for my grandchildren so again I now have to spend over $2,000 including installation ! Because it is a safety issue. NO I am not satisfied with AHS at all and when the contract is over I will go with another company

You guys have cost me probably over a $1000. dollars . I have paid you way more than I have benefited out of you. You send the lowest class of vendors. Had a Bulgarian (working out of the back of his car) come out and fix my washing machine he ruined the agitator instead of messing with you guys I went and bought a new one. Had a fly by night work on my micro wave and you guys called me so much as a liar for taking parts out of it and I didn't even know where it was so you denied my claim. Had to buy a new microwave because of your sub-standard contractors. As much as we pay you we should never have to pay a service fee and we should be able to pick a contractor we trust.

It was easy to submit a claim. Would be nice if AHS gave me a call to explain what is and what isn't covered after the contractor comes out to assess the situation. Had two experiences lately where there contractor had to tell me what AHS would do and was shocked when I told them AHS hadn't called. But the coverage is very good.

I have an operational issue with my AC Unit. Home Shield put me in contact with the company Total Air Care to resolve my issue. The unit after 3 visits by Total Air Care is STILL not operational. Total Air Care has NOT shown up for 2 scheduled appointments and I am still without AC now for 2 weeks!!! Not happy nor satisfied. I had my 17 year old dishwasher stop cleaning and I called for service / repair. The repair company can't replace it as that is not what they do. The repair guy was going to have AHS reach out to me to schedule an install of a new Dishwasher. So I waited 5 days without contact from AHS and I called for help on this matter. I was told that I would get an email of which to select the features I wanted on the new dishwasher. Great! I have not seen it arrive yet via email. AHS you are rapidly losing points with me!

At first the phone call was a disappointment, but then as I spoke more with the customer service representative we came to an agreement. The service call to fix the garage door opener happened the very next day. Everything was fixed and working within a couple hours!

Our air conditioner went out on Sept. 6. It's now November 1, and it's still not fixed. The vendor AHS selected has been nearly impossible to contact. When we contacted AHS to escalate the issue, the vendor contacted us to make an appointment, then did not show up. When we did finally get through, we were told that they had received the wrong part. During all of this, AHS did relatively little to assist us. Numerous times, we asked to speak to a supervisor or to further escalate the issue, only to be told that was not possible. Now it's been almost two months, and the best AHS can do is give us $100 off the cost of the refrigerant (AHS pays only $10 per pound, and we need 8 pounds, leaving us with almost $500 to pay). AHS did offer us cash in lieu of repairs in the amount of less than $1,200. The labor alone for the repairs is $1,800. We did use AHS one other time, and everything was great. This time, it has been an absolute battle to get anything done. Their vendor is either lazy or incompetent, and no one at AHS has been the least bit concerned with this fact. I cannot recommend AHS as a home warranty and do not plan on renewing with them. If they don't have reputable vendors who will, at minimum, answer their phones, it's not worth the hassle.

You get prompt service. The feedback is excellent. They contact the contractors quickly, but the home owner should have opportunity to contact a contractor of their choice. When a problem is not solved, AHS should follow through with the contractor directly and not get the home owner involved. The home was the issue resolved expeditiously.

This time, there were no problems with my service issue. I am not disappointed with my choice to renew my contract with AHS at this time. It'll be a while before past problems will be washed away but I'm still willing to give them the chance to make a better impression and as long as they vet their contractors better, there should be no problems.
