Meraki Solar provides comprehensive solar services to residential property owners in several states across the country. Since 2017, Meraki Solar has worked to provide clients with custom solar systems specifically designed to the property and the overall energy needs. Rather than involve multiple moving pieces, Meraki Solar will assist clients throughout the entire solar process.

The professionals at Meraki Solar will provide a free initial consultation to each property owner interested in having a solar system installed. Following this consultation, the Meraki Solar design team gets to work quickly identifying potential equipment options and mocking up what the system would look like aesthetically speaking. Once all parties come to an agreement on a design, the installation process moves forward and the actual system is installed. Finally, Meraki Solar will ensure that the system is successfully activated and clients are ready to utilize clean, renewable energy.

Since its founding, Meraki Solar has quickly expanded its operations, allowing more residential property owners the ability to be energy independent. Prospective customers can request a free quote any time and get the solar process started.

The Good

  • Compare and Contrast Shopping Service
  • Broad Service Area
  • Payment Structure
  • Start to Finish Involvement

Compare and Contrast Shopping Service

The most unique service that Meraki Solar provides to its clients is the compare and contrast shopping service. Most solar companies will simply inform clients of what equipment can be installed or what equipment is accessible. Meraki Solar takes it a step further by shopping around on behalf of its clients.

After the initial home evaluation, a Meraki Solar professional will design the best solution for the home. After preparing, designing, and ultimately presenting the solar options, the Meraki Solar professional will go over these solutions with the client and compare and contrast the possibilities. This process ideally saves money and provides a completely customized experience that not all solar companies can provide.

Broad Service Area

One of the most impressive aspects of the Meraki Solar operation is the fact that the company has rapidly expanded, servicing seven states with plans to reach even more. This is particularly impressive as Meraki Solar manages every aspect of the solar process for each client.

By offering services in multiple states, Meraki Solar is able to reach more prospective solar clients looking to become energy independent. To date, Meraki Solar offers services in the following states:

  • California — Laguna Beach
  • Florida — Clearwater, Destin, Ft. Lauderdale, Melbourne, Rockets, Orlando 300’s, Orlando Elit, Orlando Magic, Panama City, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Treasure Coast, and Empire
  • Texas — Brownsville, El Paso East, El Paso Elite, El Paso Strong, El Paso West, Horizon Strong, Rio Grande, and Valley
  • Colorado — Colorado Springs, Denver East and West
  • New Mexico — Albuquerque East and West, Santa Fe, Las Cruces East and West, Roswell, and Rio Rancho Ease and West
  • Utah — Provo
  • Arizona — Phoenix

Most solar installation companies only service one state or a select few of the more populated cities within a state. Meraki Solar has expanded to service multiple states and cities.

Payment Structure

Most clients cannot pay for a solar system upfront and outright as the national average cost to have a solar system installed on a residential property ranges from $15,000 to $25,000. To combat this expense, many solar companies will offer some type of financing. Most commonly, solar installation companies will partner with a local credit union or bank to offer solar loans to clients.

Meraki Solar offers financing independent of these third-party sources. Clients will not have to put any money down initially for install. Clients will then pay for solar power by the month, just like a utility bill, but at a reduced flat rate. Over time, the panels themselves will be paid off and then the client owns them outright.

Start to Finish Involvement

Typically, when a solar company expands into multiple states or covers a region of the country, there is some sort of outsourced work involved. Whether the installation process is outsourced to a local contractor or the sales process is handled by an entirely different company, that seems to be the most commonly seen makeup of expanded solar operations.

Meraki Solar has managed to keep all oversight and operations in-house, meaning the team handles all solar services from start to finish. There will not be middle man or outsourced work when clients decide to go with Meraki.

The Bad

  • No Solar Lease or PPA Options
  • Undisclosed Workmanship Warranty

No Solar Lease or PPA Options

Meraki Solar only provides customers with two financing options: direct purchase and solar loan. While both options grant homeowners to fantastic federal tax credit incentives, direct purchase can require tens of thousands of dollars upfront, while the solar loan can require even more money over time.

Solar lease and power purchase agreement (PPA) options are incredibly cost effective in that they place the financial burden of installation and maintenance on the company; the customer meanwhile only pays a flat monthly rate for either the system or the solar power — and often at a lower rate than the electric bill.

Undisclosed Workmanship Warranty

Although Meraki Solar provides customers with robust product warranties through their manufacturing partners, the solar company has not disclosed the terms of its own workmanship warranty, which provides additional protection for the system against installation errors and necessary maintenance. Leading solar panel installation companies provide workmanship or labor warranties of up to 25 years — the lifespan of the system.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Meraki Solar provides a complete solar service to clients all across the country. With the company’s professional compare and contrast shopping service, clients can pick and choose equipment before it is drafted up or installed. Despite only having been in operation since 2017, Meraki Solar has found a way to expand into seven states and is looking to continue that trend.

To combat potential financial constraints, Meraki Solar offers a $0 down plan for anyone wanting to install solar sooner rather than laters. Lastly, Meraki Solar does not outsource any of their work. The company manages the entire solar process from start to finish.

Even though Meraki Solar has been able to quickly expand, there are potential concerns prospective customers should be aware of. For starters, Meraki Solar does not have equipment partnerships and instead shops around for equipment. There is no way to disclose the equipment used because each case may be different. Also, Meraki Solar only does residential solar systems, so any other solar project will need to look elsewhere for services.

Considering all of the contributing factors, clients looking to use Meraki Solar should do thorough research and seek out experiences by former or current clients. There are some concerns mentioned, but there are also some proprietary services that can save clients money and allow for a better customized system.

Redeemed Sinner Pensacola, FL

Two people came to my front door today. I don't usually answer the door for anyone unless I recognize them. But the man was wearing a yellow reflective vest, so I thought they were from the local FPL electric company in Pensacola. As it turns out (so they claimed) they were trying to recruit me to let Meraki install solar panels on my roof. They both tried to explain how the process works, but it was way over my head. I reasonably asked them if they had any literature or a website where I could slowly read to understand what they were attempting to explain to me. I was very suspicious of them when they said they didn't. That is really bad! They asked me if I'd give them my most recent electric bill. I kindly told them that I had no idea who they were and that for all I know they might be scammers! Hell no I'm not going to give total strangers my electric bill. It was cold outside, only 54 degrees and I regret freezing for the 30 minutes that they kept pressuring me to give them my electric bill. Multiple times they tried to sell me on the scheme, by attempting to scare me that my power bill would skyrocket 65% over the next few years. The woman said that if I allowed Meraki to installed the power panels on my roof (she said I would likely qualify), that my monthly electric bill would likely be about $250 and be locked in for the next 25 years. I explained to her that even though my electric bill was $325 a month in the hot summers months, it was only $80 during the winter months. So on average I am only paying roughly $200 a month, which doesn't justify installing the solar panels. They tried to pressure me again, by scaring me with soaring power bills in the future. There are watchdog citizen's groups to protect the public from price gouging. The power bills can only increase in step with inflation. It's certainly not worth all the trouble to have solar panels installed on my roof, which I told them would add a bunch of additional weight to my roof, which over time could cause problems (and leaks). Also, if I need to have my roof replaced or worked on, I would have to pay the extra cost to have the panels removed and replaced. I kindly told them that I am leery of contracts and anything that involves money, especially when someone else stands to profit at my expense. I told them that I likely wouldn't be interested. They said they'd come back in a month. I then kindly told them that I am not interested, and didn't want to waste their time, so they didn't need to come back. They didn't like that one bit. They said they hoped I didn't feel like they were pressuring me. You're kidding right? They sure as hell did pressure me. I couldn't believe they didn't have any literature to leave with me, so that I could make an informed decision without them putting me on the spot, and trying five times to explain it all to me. I told them the truth, that it sounds too good to be true, and I simply couldn't understand the process they were attempting to explain to me. When they finally thankfully left, I went online and searched for "Meraki net metering scam" and right away a bunch of webpages with warnings appeared. I won't open the door if they return. For all the headaches involved—the legally binding contract that I would have to sign (I absolutely hate contracts), a credit background check, extra weight on my roof, no real savings on my monthly power bill, and being enslaved contractually to some private company for the next 25 years—I'd have to be a fool to sign any contract and go alone with their scam. It is a scam from all that I have read online. With my present situation of paying FPL directly, if money becomes tight I can always use less electricity to lower my monthly bill; but if I sign a stupid contract with Meraki, then I cannot do that and I am enslaved to pay them the contractual amount or else end up sued in court by the company. No thanks Meraki, I'll stick with the electric bill from the power company!

I have had this system for 2 years. For the most part, it was smooth sailing. First, when the salesman came, he told me that my system was being installed to be over the past average usage. I fully understand that it changes; therefore, I want to share that this is a small irritation that I STILL get electric bills for more months than I do not. The system has broken being the "inverter" twice in two years. They cannot get the part they need and it takes a few weeks for them to receive it. I fully understand that they cannot control shipping; however, you would think they would have some on hand due to this. I went this summer for 2 and a half months without my system working, and by the way, I had to tell them it was not working. I was told "we cannot possibly monitor all systems and that is why we give you access". The first time the system broke, they gave me a refund of the money paid for the monthly charge. They were fantastic in that instance. This time, I was told just now on the phone, "the policies have changed and you are no longer eligible for a refund". She stated they cannot control electrical. Well neither can I. I was also told that the system needs maintenance from time to time. By the way, they do not do this. They only come out if there is a problem. There is nothing preventative done by Meraki on their systems. (not sure if this occurs with other systems and may very well be.) I will not be getting a refund of the monthly charge, which by the way is over 250 a month, for when the system is not working. I further ended up paying 1400 in electric bills while their system was off, and of all times this time of year. I am paying over 72000 for this system. I guess my expectations were to high based on their sales people. If I had to do it again, I would NEVER buy with this company. CONSUMERS BEWARE!!! By the way, Meraki, if you actually wanna have a conversation, you have my number. I am tired of calling your system and normally being on hold for extremely long periods of time!!! Also, do not plan on your "refund" from the government the next year as the sales people tell you, the government will hold it to see how your taxes are the next year, as they did with mine.

We found almost non-existent communication with the company and we found that they were more concerned about following artificial protocols that they had designed and set up, rather than actually getting the job done. The right hand didn't seem to know what the left hand was doing. Meraki needs to provide more updates to the actual consumer. There was very little communication and on our project they changed what they call the Project Advocate five times on our project. I don't know why they did that, but it resulted in a greatly reduced flow of information to us and we were the ones that needed to know what was happening and we didn't them. But the salesperson saved the project by going above and beyond the duty to get things straightened out. Very good salesperson. Installation went terribly poorly. We're both professional engineers and Meraki's engineers designed the system incorrectly- designed it at an incorrect capacity. When they did the installation, they did not provide the correct diagrams to the installers. There were quite a few problems, and then when they installed it, they made a number of fillers in the installation. It did not pass inspection and we realized what was happening the entire way, we kept correcting them, but they weren't listening very well. Fnally, it was all completed after we made a number of corrections to them and told them what to do. I felt funny about that, I thought they really shouldn't have to have a customer tell them how to do their job, but we finally were able to tell them enough that they got it done correctly at the end. It took several tries and almost six months.

I was told the product would replace our electric bill. It did not the bill remains high. After multiple calls a month over many months trying to get our system evaluated we were told the problem was the trees and our yard. Our salesman did not mention that the trees would be a problem and we were told that we need to cut them down we did so to the tune of $7,000 out of our own pocket. I had complained to my friend who referred me to Morocco and he told me he was told the same thing yet maraki paid to have his trees cut down. I asked maroki for a reimbursement and was denied. I was also encouraged by our salesman to buy more product than what we needed that if we produced more than we used we would be getting a check from the local electric company. That never happened the electric bill remains very high. Doing business with with meraki has caused a great strain on my marriage. My wife was opposed to the deal and was especially offended at spending seven extra $7,000 to cut the trees down . A 40 years of marriage this decision to go with meraki I regret the most. After many months of voicing my concerns and displeasure I was told by the company the problem was simply the weather of which there's nothing that they can do about. I've had multiple acquaintances inquire about the product and I have discouraged them all because of the horrible experience that me and my wife have had and the great expense that it has cost us. We are now stuck with a high solar payment and a high electric bill of which puts again a great strain on my family's budget. After so long a time and so many attempts at getting satisfaction my wife and I simply became so discouraged and frustrated that we have just simply given up..

Was told I would have power in event of an outage. Specifically asked about this and was told I just had to contact the power company. Found out after talking to others that he calculated my needs wrong. I already had LED lights and a smart thermostat, so he underestimated what I really needed. Was paying on average around $300 a month for power. This system was suppose to be a 70% system and yet I still pay $200+ a month. I've even replaced my A/C ducting completely and added a mini-split unit to make more efficient cooling. I am now paying more every month than I would be if didn't have solar. I was told I would get $7.5k tax credit, but when doing taxes, was told by multiple sources that that money isn't an actual refund. It just stays as a "credit" that funds are pulled from in event I were to owe on taxes. This has been the worst decision I have ever made. Get random salesmen that stop by, but when I express my dislike in system they just hand me a sales card and want me to refer them to other people. Why would I refer a company that I feel screwed me over. One of my close friends use to be a salesman for you guys and he left because of similar reasons.

I think Meraki Solar has a major communication problem between different departments. Like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. A lot of times they'll show up, I had no idea they were coming. They have put the panels on in the back, they should have been in the front. So I've had a lot of issues with Meraki and even to date, maintain because my panels are still not working.

I was misled. I was told that my tax refund would be able to help you down on some of the loan. What they faul to tell, is that the money is not given out all at one time. It is given out over three years. Because of this my payment will increase over forty dollars in January. I was told that I would have to pay down $8000.00 in a year or the increase will take place. I wish I was the type of person who had $8000.00 extra dollars lying around.

Company started the installation on 6/09/2022. It took over two months to install the panels, then another 2 months to get hooked up and then had to wait for main electric panel to be replaced. Insisted in getting paid and the bank released the whole $49,950 to them before final inspection and approval by Duke. Inspection was done on 1/19/2023 and did not pass. I am writing this review on March 20, 2023 and the system has not been approved by Duke Electric. So far I the bank has collected 4 payments on the debt, plus regular electric bill from Duke Electric. No savings after 9 months from start of project by Meraki Solar, and have no idea when the system will be in operation. There are honorable and responsible companies in the Solar business, which Meraki Solar is not. I confided in their ability to install a Solar System costing $49,950 (which they took) and left me hanging, paying the debt plus no savings from Solar -Actually a monthly increase of $123.21 payment on the debt.

Two salesman came to our front door with their sales pitch for the solar installation. I asked them directly how they get financed for this. They told me that they do a soft pull on my credit and it will not affect my credit at all. I told them go ahead and within 5 minutes my phone lit up from TransUnion Equifax Experian and my identity.com telling me they had pulled a hard pull and it would stay on my credit report for 2 years. Don't believe anything they say if they come in the door with a lie right off the bat they're going to lie to you the whole rest of the way. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.

After dozens of phone calls and emails to the company, NOBODY from Meraki has called me back. Each of the 5-6 people who answer their support number promised a supervisor would call, but nobody did. In Dec 2020, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They have not responded to the BBB. Maraki Solar representatives have visited my home in Crestview at least 8 times in the past year, despite my requests that they cease. They ignore my "No Soliciting" sign posted within an inch of my doorbell, and claim that "they are just providing information, and not soliciting". I opened a case with Better Business Bureau 1 month ago (Case #19062862). Meraki responded that they would "inform their 1099 contractors that this customer's address should not be canvassed." This apparently had no effect, as I was just visited again (less than 4 weeks after my BBB complaint).
