The Good

  • Quality Solar Equipment
  • Solar Warranties
  • 24/7 Online Solar System Monitoring
  • Several Services

Quality Solar Equipment

High Definition Solar uses top-level equipment in its solar installation projects, including solar cells from Canadian Solar and solar inverters from industry leader Enphase. All system components — from the solar panel equipment to the mounting brackets — receive high marks for solar panel efficiency and durability.

Solar Warranties

High Definition Solar offers a 25-year equipment warranty, which covers the solar array and inverter, as well as a 10-year workmanship warranty, which covers labor. These warranties are easily transferrable in the event that the homeowner moves to a different location.

24/7 Online Solar System Monitoring

High Definition Solar offers around-the-clock online system monitoring, which gives customers the ability to track how much energy their solar power system is producing and how much energy they are consuming in real-time. This can help customers ensure that their solar power system is working properly, as well as provide insights about energy usage adjustments that can help them save even more money.

Several Services

High Definition Solar provides a number of services, all led by a qualified project manager. Services include free on-site analyses to determine whether the location is a good fit for solar, comprehensive financial analyses, energy analyses, paperwork and permitting completion, financing, installation, inspections, and roofing services.

The Bad

  • Lack of Payment Options
  • Limited Availability

Lack of Payment Options

Currently, High Definition Solar only allows its customers to buy their solar energy system outright or finance it with a loan. While these options each come with a unique set of benefits, some consumers would prefer to go solar with a lease or a power purchase agreement (PPA). As such, it would be helpful if the company offered these options as well.

Limited Availability

High Definition Solar only offers its services in California, which limits the number of consumers who have the ability to do business with the company. If you live in the solar company's service area, read our verified High Definition Solar reviews to see if it's the right solar installer for you.

No NABCEP Certification

The solar contractor does not appear to hold a certification from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). This organization is responsible for some of the best solar installation and technology training programs in the solar industry. While this is no indictment on the High Definition Solar's quality of its installation or expertise of its technicians, its presence can sometimes make the difference for a homeowner comparing multiple solar companies.

The Bottom Line

High Definition Solar offers a number of attractive features, including warranties, 24/7 system monitoring, and start-to-finish services that make the solar process simple and smooth. The company may be a good option for individuals who live in California.

Mario Pimentel Vallejo, CA

About a month ago, a salesman for High Definition Solar came to the house and started his sales talked. He said that in about 10 yrs or so, our electric bill will probably come up to a $1000 a month due to rising PGE rate. He computed our average monthly kwh usage which came out to 813kwh and then he suggested that we should have 2.8kwh solar system installed which would cut our kwh usage in half. I guess he knew what he was talking about so I did not argue but it cost me more than $28000. I wonder if he overcharged me big time with underpowered solar system. I am just wondering if the other solar companies charge a lot less than High Definition Solar. I have the name of the salesperson who came to the house. After 25 years, I won't still recoup my expenses.
