The Good

  • Quality Solar Equipment
  • Solar Warranties
  • 24/7 Online Solar System Monitoring
  • Several Services

Quality Solar Equipment

High Definition Solar uses top-level equipment in its solar installation projects, including solar cells from Canadian Solar and solar inverters from industry leader Enphase. All system components — from the solar panel equipment to the mounting brackets — receive high marks for solar panel efficiency and durability.

Solar Warranties

High Definition Solar offers a 25-year equipment warranty, which covers the solar array and inverter, as well as a 10-year workmanship warranty, which covers labor. These warranties are easily transferrable in the event that the homeowner moves to a different location.

24/7 Online Solar System Monitoring

High Definition Solar offers around-the-clock online system monitoring, which gives customers the ability to track how much energy their solar power system is producing and how much energy they are consuming in real-time. This can help customers ensure that their solar power system is working properly, as well as provide insights about energy usage adjustments that can help them save even more money.

Several Services

High Definition Solar provides a number of services, all led by a qualified project manager. Services include free on-site analyses to determine whether the location is a good fit for solar, comprehensive financial analyses, energy analyses, paperwork and permitting completion, financing, installation, inspections, and roofing services.

The Bad

  • Lack of Payment Options
  • Limited Availability

Lack of Payment Options

Currently, High Definition Solar only allows its customers to buy their solar energy system outright or finance it with a loan. While these options each come with a unique set of benefits, some consumers would prefer to go solar with a lease or a power purchase agreement (PPA). As such, it would be helpful if the company offered these options as well.

Limited Availability

High Definition Solar only offers its services in California, which limits the number of consumers who have the ability to do business with the company. If you live in the solar company's service area, read our verified High Definition Solar reviews to see if it's the right solar installer for you.

No NABCEP Certification

The solar contractor does not appear to hold a certification from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). This organization is responsible for some of the best solar installation and technology training programs in the solar industry. While this is no indictment on the High Definition Solar's quality of its installation or expertise of its technicians, its presence can sometimes make the difference for a homeowner comparing multiple solar companies.

The Bottom Line

High Definition Solar offers a number of attractive features, including warranties, 24/7 system monitoring, and start-to-finish services that make the solar process simple and smooth. The company may be a good option for individuals who live in California.

These guys are crooks. High pressure sales people selling undersized solar systems, at prices 2x the industry average. Under no circumstances should you sign up with this company prior to getting other bids. They also have a lovely habit of preying on the elderly. If you find out your parents or grandparents are looking at this company please get involved.

I didn't get past the initial contact with Hi Def Solar. They sent out the most unprofessional salesman I have ever encountered. He kept interrupting me, TELLING ME what *I* wanted, and actually yelled at me when it became clear that I knew more about my home's roof than he did. Someone from the company did call the next day to follow up, but was just as speechless as I was when I told him what had happened.

Was told we would receive 12 panels. Only 9 were placed. When I questioned it I was told 9 would be plenty. Even after turning off my pool pumps my PG&E bill is higher than before. After this California hot summer I'm sure it's going through the roof. Speaking of going through the roof, instead of routing the conduit around the eve of the house they drilled a hole in my roof.

We interviewed this company along with several others. BEWARE. This company's bid was twice that of all the other companies we looked into. They have a very good sales staff, but there is something not at all right about the company when the price is so out of line with other companies.

Do not use this company. No costumer service. Missed appointments. No communications. Broke into house when no one was home. Over priced system. Undersized system. Horrible company to work with.
