The Good

  • In-House Service Technicians
  • Personal Follow-Up
  • 24/7 Service Hotline
  • Referral Program
  • Service Warranty
  • Guest House Coverage
  • Pest Control coverage

In-House Service Technicians

Most home warranty companies use third-party local service providers to fulfill service calls. Platinum doesn't. This company hires its own technicians to service most calls. Specialty claims are covered by local partners.

When it comes to choosing which service technicians Platinum will hire or work with, the company’s guiding principle is: "Would we trust them in our own daughter’s home?"

Personal Follow-Up

According to Platinum, "A live person checks in with you after each and every service call." This is a major advantage of working with a smaller, local warranty company.

24/7 Service Hotline

Even though Platinum only covers the state of Arizona, you still have access to a 24/7 claims hotline. However, repairs will be scheduled and performed during normal business hours.

Referral Program

Platinum Home Warranty offers a referral program to its customers. Current customers who refer someone who actually buys one of the three plans from this service provider will get $50.

This offer is not available to licensed real estate agents.

Service Warranty

Services rendered under a Platinum HW contract are covered by a 30-day warranty. If you need additional service on the same covered item within 30 days of your initial technician repair, you won't be charged an additional service fee.

This warranty on services doesn't include pest control.

Guest House Coverage

If your property has a detached guest house, you can get it covered under your Platinum coverage plan for an additional fee.

  • Detached guest houses under 750 square feet — $219
  • Detached guest houses over 750 square feet — $369

Pest Control Coverage

With this company, homeowners who select even the most basic plan will get pest control services included. These include insecticide spraying for the following:

  • Roaches
  • Spiders
  • Crickets
  • Ground beetles
  • Millipedes
  • Centipedes
  • Pillbugs
  • Earwigs
  • Clover mites
  • Ants (fire ants and carpenter ants are not included)

Each pest control technician visit will require a standard service fee.

The Bad

  • Service Area Limited to Arizona
  • Phone Quotes Needed for Some Services
  • Warranty Coverage Limits
  • Submitting Service Requests
  • Additional Fees

Service Area Limited to Arizona

If you are an Arizona homeowner, you can purchase a policy from Platinum. However, if you live anywhere else in the country, you will have to shop for a different warranty company. View the top-ranked warranty companies in your state.

Phone Quotes Needed for Some Services

While most customers will be able to easily purchase their warranty service contract online through platinumhw.com, not every homeowner will. For example, people in the following circumstances are encouraged to contact Platinum over the phone for a quote:

  • Newly built homes of all sizes
  • Any homes over 5,000 square feet

Warranty Coverage Limits

Platinum Home Warranty has coverage limits just like any other warranty company.

Covered Item Per Term Limit
HVAC $2,000
Plumbing — Toilet replacement $300
Plumbing — plumbing system (includes toilet replacement) $1,000
Slab leaks within the foundation of the home $500
Water Heater (gas and electric) $1,500
Electrical System $1,500
Kitchen refrigerator $2,500
All other kitchen or household appliances $1,500
Pool and Spa $1,500
Drip/Sprinkler Systems $500  (repairs are limited to the area of leak only)

Submitting Service Requests

If you need to get a service request, you will have to contact the company either twitch the online form, via email, or phone.

There isn't an easy online scheduling service like more techie companies offer like Cinch and Texas' Fixd. So, you can still request online, but the claims process isn't quite as simple as companies that offer a mobile app or online service scheduling and confirmation, without needing to contact the customer service team.

Additional Fees

There are a few fee policies that consumers should know about before selecting a home warranty provider. With Platinum Home Warranty contracts, customers will be subject to the following fees:

  • Transfer fee — If you sell your home, you will be able to transfer the contract to another person, for a $35 transfer fee.
  • Premium labor fee — If you get repairs done outside of standard business hours, like nights, weekends, and holidays, a premium labor charge of $100 will apply.
  • Cancellation fee — Platinum HW customers can cancel their contract at any time; however, a $50 administration fee applies.

The Bottom Line

Platinum Home Warranty is a smaller-sized local home warranty service. It offers a few different plans for customers to choose from and pretty average pricing and coverage options. This company strives to provide customers with a personal touch by providing local customer support and personalized follow-up.

At this time, we need to gather more feedback from customers before we can recommend this home warranty provider.
