The initial start with Choice Home Warranty was a rocky one. I was asked to contact customer due to more information being needed. While on the line with them, I was emailed my claim was denied. The representative on the line didn't even tell me that, she just worked her major and got me an appointment to have my cooktop fixed. I can't give a full 5-star due to the site doesn't have a place all the selection you need to explain issues. But the agent was superb and the technicians who finally fixed the cooktop were top notch even though it took over 2 weeks to get parts.. ;)

The sign up process for the warranty was very easy and didn't take long at all. I was a previous customer so my information was already in the system. The thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars and that aggravated me to no end is the fact that I continuously got phone calls for about a week after I had signed up with Choice Home Warranty. I guess the system didn't recognize that I had indeed signed up and was a customer. THIS flaw in the system needs to be corrected Please and thank you.

Set up the initial claim, we stated the garbage disposer was leaking at the bottom and the undersink area had standing water. 3 days later we finally received a claim number. The assigned plumber couldn't come out for 9 days later. So, we could not use our sinks for 9 days. They finally came out yesterday at 4:15. When they checked out the problem, they confirmed we needed a new disposal. They went to get one and called and said we now needed a new claim #. Choice Home Warrenty was now closed. Didn't want to wait another 9 days, so we had to pay for the instillation, dosposal and service call. Got a new claim number this morning. Hopefully we will reimbursed for some of the cost we paid out.

Last week my dryer broke. I opened a ticket with CHW an within a couple days a repair technician came and diagnosed the problem. He wanted $170 from me to pay for the required part. This is over and above my copayment and the CHW reimbursement amount to the technician. He told me that the CHW maximum for the repair was $250. If you add the $170 from me, the $250 from CHW it comes to $420 to repair a 10 year old dryer. The heating element needed replacement but if it was repaired how much longer before the motor or some other expensive part would fail? My suggestion is for CHW to consider the circumstances and offer their customer a cash alternative when appropriate. In my situation, we both would have been winners if CHW offered me $100-$200 to get a new dryer which is exactly what I did anyway.

They picked a good company to send out to do the repairs and they handled everything without even talking to anybody except for a voice on a computer on the phone. I didn't have to wait a long time to get a response, an e-mail telling me that a technician was gonna get in contact with me. And I learned that everything that was said about them before when it was recommended to me was true so far. So far I'm paying 100, that's it. They don't run you around or anything. They just took care of the issue that was covered and sent out a good technician that took care of everything.

I disliked customer service. There was too much background noise. I don't know how the rep could here me. CHW sent Pro Appliance Medics to fix my washer. He was here but the washer still leaks water on the floor. They told CHW that I needed a plummer. That there was a line blocked. CHW opened a new claim and I will have to pay another service call. I am not happy about that.

Choice was there for me when we had an A/C unit go down. They were patient while we tried to get in contact with the tenant who complained and would not answer our calls. When we finally did get a hold of the person they said they had fixed the problem. Not sure if I will get charged a service call or not but at least Choice was there.

Some things are claimed and appointments made for repairs quickly and its repaired or replacement funds given within 30 days toward replacement. Others No. Found out every 30 days you have resubmit as new claim if no company wants to do the repair. Also if parts are ordered and I do not follow up on status of repair. No action is taken from Warranty and you have to start from scratch. And submit 'new' claim and pay another fee as you are starting from scratch. Overall I like having this warranty just very frustrating that many of these issues are not explained. Also no type of update if you go to the website to look at your claims. So unless you call and check with them it sits there. And there is no comments that it has been canceled and you need to submit new claim. So average stars for average service 'Manager' rep told me it was in the paperwork they sent me. And he would send again. Which he didn't. Good customer service would take the time to read and explain to me the actions I need to take to ensure my claims are taken seriously from this company.

The only negative was a lengthy spiel about locking in a great by paying up front for a six year commitment. Come on, who would ever consider that?

First time, first year customer; Liked: ease of filing claims, on-line responsiveness, garbage disposal claim #3 handled start to finish within 5 days, one call approval to the tech on-site within a few minutes. Didn't like: Claim #2 dishwasher, technician doing work was great, but wrong part was sent to him delaying repair by weeks and necessitating 3 visits. Claim #1 pool heater: apparently pool companies dealing with this warranty co, don't get paid enough/don't want to travel to north co. San Diego, so it took months to get this repair. 1st assigned tech bailed our assigned appt. as his other no. county job cancelled, he didn't want to travel an hour and he said he could not easily communicate with warranty company except on line which was not adequate for him. Weeks later I found, and was going to use my own designated tech (which Choice told me was allowed once per year), and that one could also not navigate the Choice on line system, so he cancelled on me. Third tech was good, driving over an hour, but had to wait weeks for Choice to get him the part which I apparently could have gotten via Amazon/other within days. It's hard to believe there is a lack of pool companies in San Diego county. but maybe there are few willing to accept Choice Warranty business. I have been told some techs will not accept water heater work as reimbursement to them is too little or some plumbing repairs as customers can't wait for Choice approval/parts system in an urgent/emergency situation.

Early the next morning the service techs arrived and had the problem fixed in less than an hour. Really appreciate the quick service!!

The annual cost is fairly reasonable, and it is pretty easy to submit a claim. However, the vendor network is slow to pick up claims and there is no way to specify an emergency situation. If you're lucky enough that a vendor will handle all the replacement work, then it tends to be a good deal--as long as you don't need the work done quickly. The estimates for what something should cost to replace are too low (example, they gave me less than $400 to replace a wall oven, and the minimum cost for a wall oven is close to $1000). There's also no way to choose a specific vendor if you've worked with them before, you're subject to whoever picks up the claim. The portal that their vendors use to pick up the claims is finnicky, and if you have any issues with the vendor there's no real recourse except to get your claim reassigned. That doesn't help if you're unable to use a major appliance (such as my water heater, which I'm currently STILL waiting on a replacement, even though it has been two weeks). Also, there is no way to get reimbursed if you have to take on work yourself due to failures in their vendor network. For example, my AC broke (in south Texas, in the middle of the worst heat wave in decades). A vendor would not pick up my claim, so I had to call one directly who worked with Choice Home Warranty (he'd picked up claims before, but for some reason, this claim wasn't showing up in his portal for him to pick up). So, I had to pay him directly or wait 2-3 days for a technician to even show up if I used the warranty company.

What I disliked is talking to an agent that can hardly speak English, and him telling me that the service people you have work 7 days a week. My A/C broke down on Friday they did a claim right away and told me I have to wait for a service company to pick it up. And that this could take 4 hours and if I didn't hear in 4 hours it would be 24-48 hours. It was 107 on Fri, 106 on Sat and 105 on Sun I called Sunday and they told me they were still waiting. I told the agent I'm willing to bet it will be Monday because no service person is coming out on a weekend since you don't pay overtime. And Lord behold I get an email Sunday night telling me they will be at my house from 3-8 PM. on Monday. Also I received an email with a survey asking if I would recommend Air Tex. at 5;45 this morning I checked my email at 6;15 gave him a 10 and it said survey has expired what gives.

I entered in my issue with my A/C unit at 10:30 am and it took until after 2:45pm before I got a response saying someone was coming out to my home. My contract says 4 hours for GA and this was almost within that window so this was satisfactory however I called a customer service rep and spoke to her about the timeliness of the response and was told you are not an emergency service and you had 24 hours to response with a contractor. I told your rep that my A/C was broke and we were under a heat warning advisory here in GA with a feels like temps over 100 degrees and that a 24 hour response was unacceptable. Unfortuantly the way your system works it appears you may use a message board and wait for contractors to respond. This definately delays service times. I was very fortunat to get a response within 4 hours and 15 minutes but the contractor said he could not be at the house until 2 days later. I took the appointment and was very lucky in that the contactor AAA heating and supply was in the area working and responded that same afternoon. The rep was friendly, knowledgable and did get the unit running as it was just a bad capacitor and then he left. Unforntuantly the unit was still not right as it took over 7 hours to cool the house just 5 degrees. I wish the contractor had done a system check before leaving. Therefore the next day I called my normal HVAC company and had them order me a new unit to be installed this Tuesday. So Choice Home Warranty did get a temp fix to at least get my air running again when I was really looking for a longer better fix. The system seemed to be running inefficiently and I made the decision at that time to just replace the unit instead of continuing to work with an inefficient unit that stll needed some sort of repair. AAA may have gotten this unit to be saved but they did not take the time to look further. Bottom line is this summer is an exceptionally hot summer I am not taking any chances with my family's health and well being.

On my side everything was efficient and timely but the vendor process for authorization was frustrating for the vendor. They were pleasant as was the customer service rep but she was asking them to resubmit for authorization. Every time they did that through the vendor portal it said the authorization had already been submitted. They waited 2 hours trying to get authorization before I called in to help if I could from my side.

The three problems I have submitted a claim for were fixed in a relatively short time. The technicians were congenial and didn’t waste time with unnecessary interaction. Unfortunately, generic parts were used to fix the problems, rather than replace the faulty parts with similar quality parts. This was most apparent when the quiet quality malfunctioning garbage disposal was replaced with a noisy Ace Hardware brand disposal. After using the disposal it became apparent that the unit’s flange had been improperly installed. Overall, CHW appears responsive when a claim is submitted. The quality of the replacement parts could be improved.

I like I can always get someone on the phone to answer my questions. I like the ease of filing a claim. I like getting help paying for unexpected repairs and/or replacements. I don't like, but I think this is standard, the reimbursement for replacement is sometimes less than my choice of replacement. I understand the policies. I like that Choice maintains contact with me and keeps me apprised of the status of my claim when a technician is anticipated to me. I like that I've used my policy for two homes and always been satisfied with the speed and fulfillment of our contract

I’ve been happy with Choice u until they said that since my dishwasher needs to be replaced, they’d send $250 to Lowe’s and I’d need to go there and pick it out. I was assured when I signed up with Choice that any replacement would be purchased, delivered and installed and evidently that was not true. I don’t want to leave Choice but I am very unhappy with this latest development. Please purchase a comparable dishwasher, have it delivered and your nice service agent come install it and remove the old one. Thank you Audrey Cantley

I had a recent claim concerning my garage door opener. The claim was assigned right away but that is where the problem got started. As soon as the repairman got here he started with upselling telling me that Choice would not cover the problem with my opener. He did some work on the unit and it began to work again.....for a few days. I called Choice back to get them to resend someone to fix the unit. A few days later the same repairman showed up and told me I had to repay for a new service call because the problem wasn't his fault. He got rather verbally aggressive with me and I finally called Choice and told him to leave. He said he wanted his additional money right them. I told him no because I wasn't able to reach Choice and I was going to let your company make the decision. To make a very long story short, when I finally was able to talk to someone at choice they wanted to send out the same company again. I said no way. The end result was that I had to pay another service call for a new company to come out. This company saw right away that the earlier repair was not completed properly and the replacement part had already frayed due to poor installation. He got things corrected. He told me to let you know that he had been in a position to correct many repair and installation problems caused by the original company. Personally I think that it would be an advantage for all of your clients to do a better job of vetting the companies you send out to do work. I got to pay a double fee and take a lot of abuse before my repair was completed. Not good!
