It took us 5 days to get a drain unclogged, and during that time, we couldn't use our kitchen. People answered through email quickly, but it still took us 5 days to resolve the problem. It didn't seem like there was a real urgency to help us, and in the end, we had to find our own people. The reimbursement process was easy, but I wish they would have told us that is how they operate instead of being unclear for 5 days.

The tech from Quality Appliance Repair was great put in a new part and every thing works. He came out the day after I put the claim in. Great service by his company. He also looked at the dishwasher that 3 of your other techs have looked at over a period of 6 weeks and confirmed there was no blockage of food or anything else. He couldn't understand why no one had checked the celluloid or course he couldn't anything because he was just there for the washer. But I really appreciated his taking a few minutes to look at my problem.

I feel that I was rushed to make a decision. To many choices available. I wanted to see what my options are/where. I am a senior citizen, 78 yr. young, and I was offered several choices, however no time to fully understand. At this point in time I would like to speak to someone that will listen and take their time to explain. The sales tactics used are unacceptable to me. I see so many excluded items in the policy. I was told that there was no waiting period contract says 30 days.

I am new to Choice this year. My first ( and only) experience so far was this past week. Kitchen sink backed up.......wasn't sure if clogged drain or my garbage disposal. You were not able to get someone out to see me. I found a co with two calls and they came out the next morning. I had to send for reimbursement. So, not feeling too good about this. I hope an isolated incident.

This repair started nearly three months ago. We had a faint smell of gas in the kitchen. Me being a member of the Chicago Fire Department know to call the gas company. They arrived within 90 minutes. I explained the situation. They had me turn the gas back on which I had shut off prior to calling them. They detected a low reading of gas, less than 100 parts per million. We turned off the gas and called Choice. That day my wife spoke to a technician and he showed up the following day in the late afternoon. Just so happens he works for the gas company and does repairs on the side. He explained that this type of problem is generally located where the gas line connects to the wall or the range. He tightened both fittings and then assessed if there was a leak at either of those fittings. There was no leak detected so he left with 45 bucks. I unfortunately was not at home that day and was not able to let him know that the guys from the other night had already done that. The next morning I got home from the firehouse and there was still a slight odor of gas in the kitchen. I had my wife confirm and she agreed that it still smelled of gas. As directed by Choice my wife called the technician directly. He told us to turn off the gas and he would return within "a few days" to recheck the problem. Several days, voice messages and text's later he didn't respond or show up. We recontacted Choice and they sent another repair technician. He showed up within 48 hours and assessed the issue. He found that the valve that was connected to the gas line into the range had a leak. He was unable to trouble shoot the leak and stated he needed to replace the part. He told us that he would call us too see if Choice would be willing to replace this part. 5-6 days later no call. My wife called him and 2 days later he called to report the part was on back order. He said he would call mus when it arrived. 2 weeks later no word. We left messages over the next 5 days, no return call. Calls to Choice to pressure him to update us led to a call a couple of days later. He told us he was out of town and would get back to us when he returned. more than a week later more calls to him, he finally called us back, part has not arrived. He said he would call his supplier and get back to us. A week later still no call. Again we chased him down, "I'm going on vacation, I'll call you when I get back in town." 2 weeks later we caught up to this guy, he called the supplier and was told it would be there within 48 hours. My wife scheduled an appointment with him for 3 days from that day. He showed up with the part in hand, ready to work. he removed the faulty part and told me that the new part did not come complete. He would need to go to a hardware store to get a "nipple". He told me that this not his responsibility and it would only be about "ten bucks". I gave him $10 and gave him directions to both Ace hardware and Home Depot. He left and returned an hour and twenty minutes later. He said he went to Home Depot which is 10-15 minutes away, even in heavy traffic. When he returned he said he couldn't find anyone to help him find the part. He eventually found assistance and said he stopped to eat before returning to complete the job. He gave me no change nor a reciept for the part he replaced. I looked it up on line, there were several similar pieces that ranged fro $1.60 to $3.25 or so. He arrived initially at 3:30 PM and returned with the part at just past 6:00 PM. Needless to say, my family and I had not eaten dinner and were waiting until he was done. He replaced the part after borrowing some of my tools. Yet another sob story. He said his minivan was broken into and tools were stolen. He said the replacement tools he bought are broken. at 7:15 PM he packed up his tools as well as a few of mine to go, after replacing the part. he did not test for leaks. I reminded that some of the tools he was packing up were mine, his response, oops! we cleaned up his mess after he left. The very next morning, the gas smell was still there. My wife and I thought we were being hypersensitive and critical but, no. I called the Fire Dept. They responded and tested with their meter, the gas reading was 66 parts per million. We called Choice, we told them to have a different technician. Thank god for Andy! he called within hours of receiving the job notification. He was very accommodating and he gave me an appointment for 3 PM the next day. He showed up on time with all the tools needed to assess and repair the issue. He even went out to purchase a "Gas sniffer/detector" tool. He found a leak immediately where the gas line was connected to the newly replaced valve. He disconnected it and it was obvious what the problem was. The previous repairman, a term I use very loosely, did not use any pipe dope or Teflon tape at the connection. I'm a homeowner with some basic knowledge and even I know metal on metal connections need Teflon tape or if it's going to get wet pipe dope but either is acceptable in this situation. Andy quickly fixed the issue and was on his way. I can not speak highly enough about Andy. He did not give anyone else a bad name or sell them down the river. He just took pride in working, efficient, fast, clean and showing interest in customer satisfaction. The other two repairmen were just interested in getting in and out quickly, not thinking about quality work, just getting out as fast as possible with as much money as they could. I've had other repair serviced thru Choice and the experience was most definitely more possessive. This leaves lots of room for improvement, this time. I hope this does not become the standard of customer service.

Choice Home Warranty has been well worth the cost. Each time I have had to use them, they have responded very quickly. The plumbing coverage doesn't cover everything such as leaking bathroom faucets, but overall the coverage is good.

This was a nightmare just trying to get someone out to look at my air conditioning unit. It starting with a call for service on May 8 and just completed July 18th. An appoint would be set and then nothing! Multiple calls to the contractor received no live person and no return calls. Choice did would they could to contact the technician. Sometimes they would get a response, sometimes not. I was always given the option of finding my own technician at a reimbursement option (no amount given)or have them resubmit to another technician. There were times after they assumed the call was for service was complete that the ticket could be closed. I manually reopened the ticket advising Choice that the problem was still there and I had not heard from any technician. On the 4th try and 2 month later a technician came to my home about 945 PM to 1130 PM (a work night for me when I report for duty at 0400 AM) and used a flashlight to fix the problem. Now the ticket is closed officially and the repair was completed. Hopefully if I have to call for a repair on something it will not take this long and Choice Warranty would receive an official notification from the customer before closing the ticket.

I bought a 3-year Total Plan from Choice in March. My tub/shower diverter went bad and I called in a claim. When the plumber arrived, he had to call in to get an authorization from Choice. They denied it saying it wasn’t covered, so I got on the phone to read the contract to the authorization rep who immediately transferred us to customer service. Customer Service then transferred us back to authorization. This went on for 45 min. So I called customer service separately on my phone and asked for a customer service supervisor. Rochelle (sp?) came on and said that the plumbing technician had originally asked for authorization to repair a valve, not the diverter. So I read Rochelle the contract where valves were also expressly covered. They covered the claim, and I asked that Rochelle make notes in my file to the effect that, “This customer reads the contract,” and advised them not to try this stunt again unless they’d like to wind up in court in my neck of the woods.

Someone in the company needs to keep track of service calls - for example: How long does a representative takes after placing a home warranty call for any repair (should categorize by your warranty plan)? How long does a representative takes to respond to an urgent heating or air conditioning warranty call? Your sales people sell easily but does not respond to questions accordingly because they might not know how the warranty program works after the effective date of the sale.

I had a problem with plumbing...dirty water was backing up into my bath tubs and shower! I called to put in a claim and someone picked up right away. An hour later I got a call from a plumber who said he wasn't the one they should have called. He said it would have to be someone who handles sewer backups. He said he would call CHW and let them know to assign it to someone else. Hours went by and I heard nothing! Can't use the toilet, wash my hands, use any water for fear my house is going to flood with sewage! I call and waited on hold for 26 minutes...no one answered. I called the new claim number and they said they couldn't help me that I would have to try the other dept.. Then, I waited for 28 min. on the phone and no answer! I called the number for new claims again and I asked for a supervisor. He asked why and I explained. He said he would look into it and put me on hold. He came back and said they had lost my claim and we would have to put a new one in. This is 6 hours after I had initially put a claim in! I was grateful this guy actually care. Then I get an email about an hour later saying someone will be out in about 24 hours! Another hour goes by and the person who was sent my claim was kind enough to call and said he could come right out! He had a long way to come in pouring down rain but he got to my house about 7:30 on a Friday night! I was so happy to see him. He found out what the problem was, resolved it, and was very professional! Happy about the resolution but very upset about my experience with CHW service.

The last few experiences have been horrible. The technicians sent out had no identification and I had no way to verify if they were insured, certified in their field. The last claim we filed. I had to call 4 times before I finally got an answer with average hold times 45 minutes. The last call I was on hold 55 minutes till I spoke to a representative only to find out they were willing to fix the broken compressor on an 18 year old ac unit ( but that is not the total cost of the repair). What? You don’t repair an 18 year old ac unit that needs an $800 part. You replace it but that is there way out of replacing even though we have that kind of coverage. So I have been without ac for a week in 95 degree temps only to find out they will cover a small piece. What a scam. I will not be renewing my home warranty. I’d rather hire professionals from the start and not end of pay for it later when someone unqualified screws something up.

So far I have two issues one the length of time it takes to get through you need the service where you lea ve your callback no so someone can get back to you whithout waiting on hold. I really can't provide an accurate review at this time. I looked online for a quote, and as soon as I put in my phone number, I received a call. I don't really like that kind of tactic. I was given what seems to be a good plan at reasonable rates. I won't actually know until I have a claim. If I get what I paid for, I will be happy. The rates are lower than Sears home warranty service. We will see.

It has been easy to file a claim and scheduling an appointment with the contractor. However, every service has had some hiccup which resulted in either the service isn't covered or most recently, the repair parts backordered for over a month. The CHOICE service rep has explained that there is noting they can do about it but the "super" customer rep has forwarded a check for the "cost of the repair" usually $200 or so. In the most recent, I have been told that I can use this amount towards the replacement of my washer since I already received a service call, This resolution seems contrary to the overall purpose of having this coverage and I am considering for the 4th time of cancelling my contract.

Your sales force's hyperaggressive approach is not reassuring. I expect that of the dodgier sort of outfit. I will be asking the BBB about you. There has been some difference between prices quoted on Sunday the 17th and subsequently. This, again, is challenging to one's peace of mind. The "$100 off" figure is more than the annual rate I first heard.

This is our first time experience of using services, unfortunately it was terrible. Choice was prompt in assigning a technician, not the technician never turned up on agreed time nor he called up, it happened twice for same job. Finally when he arrived he didn't have right set of tools to fix the problem. He said someone will come, no one turned up as yet. On top of this Choice system generated email tell us the appointment was missed by us. Crazy. Typical, lot of tall promises when the sales person wants to sell the product and when it comes to delivery we know what the real customer focus is.

We've had two service calls in the past 30 days on our AC units. The first time, the techs performed the service, without speaking with CHW first, and it turned out that wiring wasn't covered. The vendor then harassed be for over a week trying to get me to pay out of pocket. This time around, CHW gave me the wrong time frame, and then said I missed my window. Luckily this vendor was solid, and came during the window they had given me when I called them directly, and fixed our issue once and for all (from what I can see). CHW has very poor vendor relations.

Claim for sump pump was requested. 1st technician that was sent out never came out and when I called them "Beno Plumbing " they said the job was not enough money. The upfront $65 service fee. They said they contacted somone at Home warrenty but I was never updstes..i jad to hrsr this from the technician which i foubd very unprofessional. I called several timea request new service no answer. I left a message on the website work request and got new technician who got the job done. I was satisfied with the 2nd service but the 1st part shouldn't of happened.

Overall, more likely to actually cover things than other home warranty companies like American home shield . They will also give you a better deal if you buy multiple policies or more than one year up front. Their vendors aren’t always great. Have had a few pretty bad service issues here and there. I’m not sure much can be done about that
