Overall, I rate the company good. My most recent experience was exceptional. However, about two years ago I had a negative experience with a plumbing company they sent. The company just tried to sell me $1000+ in "needed" products I didn't need. I found out I didn't need them by talking with other professionals and also Yelp checking the company. It had an extremely poor rating with most reviewers saying their experience with the company was due to AHS sending them.

Overall fairly easy to work with. They never have any contractors in our area. They are all from out of town which makes our down time a little longer, but they have always come thru in gettingus back up and going. As with any warranty company they will always try every way in the world to repair it, no matter how long it takes, before they will replace it.

American Home Shield has set up a language barrier between their employees and their customers. For example the employees have an accent to their customers and their customers have an accent to the employees. This is absolute confusion and extremely frustrating for the employees and the customers. Something truly needs to be done about this situation you can't get anything done. The other complaint I have is with you guys if one has a big ticket item for example such as a furnace you have guidelines set in place to force the customers to purchase their own furnace up front and you will reimburse them. I asked would receive the entire cost of the furnace back I was told no and they were not even able to advise me of any money for reimbursement. The information I did receive was after speaking with several employees because I had to call several times until I could connect with someone that I understood and they understood me as well. Question what is the benefit in having you guys Home Owners Warrenty? I don't have enough funds to upfront purchase a furnace these type of items one needs assistance with the sole purpose of investing into a Home Owners Warrenty is for help when you don't have enough funds to replace big ticket items.

They refused to refund the $75 I paid for a service to check out my air conditioning unit. He lied, as proved by the second service tech from another company. The potential scammer told me my unit only had 1/2 pound of Freon, and that AHS would buy my another air conditioning system. Then he added that they would not pay for any of the $2,000 + installation charges. He also told me when I asked about what sounded like a twig getting caught in the blades after thinking for a minute, that a piece of dangling plastic was making the noise, but he used a zip tie to keep it out of the way. I had a gut feeling that he was a liar. I requested a service call from a different company. He told me my unit was in great condition, no Freon was missing, there was no zip tie in the unit, and before he cleaned it he showed me all the packed leaves the first guy didn't hose out. I don't think I should get a refund for the liar that tried to scam me because I'm a woman. This $75 is a huge sticking point that I will use when I decide if I am going to renew my contract with AHS next year.

now I'm not necessarily upset with American home shield I'm pissed off at Sears who came out to look at my washing machine. This is why I'm upset. And American home shield won't help me for Sears to be reasonable on a appointment date to install a part on my washing machine that has arrived at my home. So I'm sort of mad at American home shield? Not really. Sears is the one that's not working with me on a mutually good date for final service to install this part in my washing machine.Because my washing machine which I did receive the part at my home my appointment I was told I had to have my appointment between an early date and a late date and that I had to call if I couldn't have a service member out between the earliest date and the latest day. I've called three times all three times they told me there's nothing they can do and I keep telling them I'm not going to be home in the time frame of the earliest State and the latest date I was told by the service guy that came out to just take the latest service date and then call and I called three times and you're telling me you can't do anything about it. So I guess whether I cancel or don't cancel the appointment date that I currently have I won't be home when the service member comes out and I'm not there or if I cancel, I can't get another date. Very frustrating. It's a joke! I'm basically being told I picked the date it's between the earliest date for a service call and the latest day. And if I can't meet the service guy in that time frame then I guess the part sits in my home and nobody comes out to install the part. And American home shield won't pay for another service member to come out and start this process up again. So Sears has failed me! I'm so pissed off I can't tell you.

Installation of hot water heater. 1st vendor came and inspected the old one and indicated a new would be required and would have to be ordered. Never heard back from that contractor. 1 1/2 months later called AHS and asked the status of our work order/claim and was informed that it had been closed. Told AHS rep that the hot water heater had not been replaced. AHS rep then assigned another vendor who responded immediately, inspected the old water heater and ordered a new water heater. Got back with us in a couple of days and installed the new one. He was very professional.

The 1st plumbing contractor (Peters Plumbing and Heating) sent to the house had a bad diagnosis, and they would NEVER return my 4 calls and 1 txt message to explain. I explained this to AHS and expected them to have the contractor call me, but nothing happened. I recommended that they be dropped as an approved contractor. The 2nd contractor sent out (Geo. F. Peters) fixed the problem by simply cleaning a part, that the 1st contractor never looked at.

AMS has been very good to us except for this summer when our AC went out. In plus 100 degree heat we were without service for 4 weeks. The first two people they sent out quit after being here and never notified us they were not coming back. We were getting desperate and called AHS every few days and it was always the same we're working on it, we will get someone. My family was begging me to just hire a local to do it and it caused a lot of strife among us. Finally a member of our family talked to AHS in a not very nice way and within 3 or 4 days we had an appointment for repairs from a Houston technician. It turned out to not be an expensive repair and we worked with the technician and put the thermostat back together and worked with some wiring in the outside unit, which we found out was attached backwards and for the last month, fingers crossed, we have had air conditioning. AHS should not have let this matter go on for 30 days with two 78 and 82 year old people in the home. AHS indicated that they couldn't find people to do the work. I have heard that AHS does not pay their repair people well, and I understand they are trying to keep costs down, but in a situation like we had, I think they should have bent the rules and paid to get help to give us service. Except for the AC experience we have been satisfied with everything else this company has done and glad we had it. I would have given 5 stars otherwise.

All calls have been outstanding except one. I would like to say 5 but due to coverage of my area and contractor failure to respond/communicate, (which both reasons are out of AHS control) also the AHS customer service did their best over a period of time and several calls, I was more than happy with their efforts. The customer service makes a difference. The response time is quick and I think better than if I called without AHS in each case. Would be better to make the service request form a little more flexible, but it is quick and easy. tle

AHS does not have a category for "Emergency Services" which it should. Emergency A/C services are needed in the South and Southwest. I had a service call scheduled for 3 days after I went online. I also contacted AHS regarding the possibility of scheduling with another service provider for a closer service date than 3 days, but to no avail. 3 days without or little to no a/c is horrible. AHS tried but to no avail. Perhaps expanding the vendor list might help.

American Home maintains a good process to open a ticket, however I am noticing that some of the contractors they assign the work to have email boxes full which cause delays in getting the proper skill to the home. I believe the process should have the AHS team check on "Responsive contractor availability or reassign it to an alternate contract who will be responsive. Customers cannot live with long delays for some of the problems that your warranty customers are dealing with on the home. What good is a warranty program if the customer has to wait. Two of the contractors that were assigned to my recent tickets had voicemail boxes that were full and took days to acknowledge ownership of my issue. I am currently a customer care professional and know that you competition will beat you on response time to repair. So you need to take a close look at this process and revamp it to not open a ticket and throw it over the fence but to coordinate with an available and responsive contractor.

Generally, the contact with staff was helpful. However, I felt that the referred contractors were trying to take advantage of us. They stated that the affected part was not covered by AHS and that it would cost $498 to replace it. I am currently seeking another alternative. In the meantime, our home is without hot water in the areas connected to the water heater affected by the faulty overflow alarm system.

In the rare case that we get a contractor that doesn't provide good service, American Home Shield is also good about either sending a different contractor or sending the original contractor to fix the problem.

Contractor reviewed and provided info back to AHS. 1 day later AHS reproted to us total replacement needed and provided similar products. One we selected, the new product was put in place within 5 days due to shipping delay. Installed perfectly and old item taken away at no cost.

When putting in that our dryer needed fixed, they sent out an applicance company and they said the dryer couldn't be fixed they sent out another company they said the same thing. American Home Shield bought out our dryer and we were able to purchase a new one.

It has been a mixed bag. I have had 3 service requests through them. The first one was an absolute nightmare that took months for them to reject it in the end without fixing the problem or replacing the unit. They sent out 4 different contractor. They kept sending new ones until they got the answer they wanted so they could close the case without needing to repair or replace my fridge. The first three recommended replacement saying it was an internal system error with the freon system that could not be fixed. The fourth said it was a manufacturer defect even though it just happened after 12 years of owning the fridge. That allowed them to close the case as not covered. To top if off the state of the case is waiting for parts even though that is not true. Was the worst experience to have them keep sending new companies until one finally said what they wanted to hear. To make matters worse when the second company was assigned to me instead they had hundreds of 1* reviews online so I requested a differnent company and AHS flat out lied to me and said there are no other companies at all anywhere near me that can do this repair. I guess that was only true until they did not like what the company recommended, then magically the there were more companies to send out. If I was basing it on this alone it would be 1 star. I did have 2 other much easier and cheaper service requests though they did approve. A simple heating fix on my dryer was handled the same day I put in the ticket and a door replacement for my microwave was handled in 3 days. The dryer fix would have cost the same or less if I did not go through AHS but the microwave would have cost a few hundred. The actual contractors sent out were all extremely professional and any issues I had were with the AHS side of things.

Well, my air conditioner wasn't working, so I called the warranty company. They sent out a contractor, but he couldn't diagnose the problem because he did not have the proper equipment. They sent out another contractor and they diagnosed the problem which was a leak in the compressor, but the warranty company did not approve to get it fixed. They said that my AC was undersized and was missing a part. It is not my fault that my home's AC was undersize and had a missing part - this is why I got a warranty company just in case of any home problems! The warranty company could have still fixed the AC regardless!

I like the quality of the service providers who have come for repairs. Disappointed in the inability of American Home Shield in regards to my garbage disposer getting fixed. Had 2 service calls made without repair. I'm being told the disposer is hard wired so the plumbers were unable to complete the repair. I've had other replacements of disposers in the past without any pushback.

American Home shield usually save home owners money when it comes to appliances however, they have a sneaky way of wiggling out of some services after taking their copay by using technical languages that you don't have control over, for example, they did not fix my sump pump even though it is part of the contract them entered into with me by claiming it has debris, which according to the technician they sent is part of regular wear and tear that happens to that type of equipment but they don't cover it. That is just one of the bad experience that I have had with them but nobody is prefect.

AHS' executive branch is excellent in problem resolution. I will say, that I have the same complaint each year with the vetting process of your contractors. AHS needs to do a better job when signing on contractors. One simple thing they could is to check the contractors rating with the BBB. That would be a great place for them to start prior to signing them on. They should also conduct independent reviews of the company.

In many instances, AHS has been very quick and generous, new water heater, washing machine. Unfortunately, my experience with the length of time for air conditioning repair (and Texas's 105 degree heat ) means I have found a local company to repair and now replace my aging HVAC system. I just don't have the energy to wait for weeks for a decision, as I did with the washing machine as well as during a previous repair on the AC unit. It means I'll have to reconsider continuing with AHS, can't afford that payment and AHS payment.

We had excellent service when our sump pump was replaced. Also had problems with our central air which the company used for service came out and actually got the a/c running but said we needed a new unit. They ordered the a/c and when it came in they told us that we need new duct work and new electrical work to install the a/c at an addtional cost to us of $2,300. I had another HVAC company look at the a/c and told me duct work and electrical work would not be needed. I told your company not to install the new unit because of the addtional cost. They told me the unit was in so if you have not received the a/c unit back from them I did not get a new unit. Then company was Family HVAC.

So far we have had a really good experience with AHS! The contractors sent to us have been professional and quick to get in touch, and we are happy with our results. One hiccup occurred the other day when the rep. on the phone tried to tell me that a service was not covered (follow-up from previous service) - when it is indeed covered. I have used the warranty 3 times so far. It took quite a while to get the service folks out to take care of things. When they did get there, they were nice and professional (and on the phone too) - but it just doesn't seem like anyone is in much of a hurry to get things done. Also, I tried to get information about my plan by calling and the man who answered the phone seemed completely clueless and uninterested in helping me. It was really odd

I needed a washer repair... it took over a week to get scheduled, but then the technician was great. Needed a part, another 7+ days. Then to try to reschedule was the run-around. AHS gave me instructions to call service company directly... held 20 min. to be told by them, AHS has to contact them to get it rescheduled. What I found is, the 1st call goes pretty smoothly, but the follow up is hard to schedule on-line or to make contact with the service company. Needs to somehow be streamlined please.

Each time I call I'm greeted with high quality and respect, my appointments get scheduled and issues resolved. On my last call when the contractor was a no show the representative wasted no time reaching out to the company to find out way. Although they showed up well after the appointment time they did come and resolved my issue.

Recently our dishwasher stopped working . After first visit it was clear that it will need to be replaced per the assigned technician. However, AHS went with replacing parts and had us pay service fees for additional two repair ticket. Post which they agreed to replace; and gave option to choose but not great value options. When ordered one which suited us they just left on us to deal with the warehouse and Manufacturer as we received two damaged appliance and it has been over an month we are without Dishwasher. Bad experience. We have neen customer of AHS aince 2008 and never had such bad experience., but this incide t really begs us to question the value of continuing with them as Platinum member.

The service call was great, they came out right away. Unfortunately, my refrigerator has to be replaced. The first time they were supposed to bring the new refrigerator, they brought the wrong color. They were apologetic, scheduled a new delivery for 3 days later. The second delivery no one showed up. I called to confirm the delivery, the rep said "Oh yeah, they'll be there". No one came. The delivery time was 2-6, I called again at 5:30 to confirm, I was told the delivery center was closed and if it was scheduled they would be there. I have taken off of work twice now, one for the 1st delivery (wrong color) and 2nd one for a no show. I still don't have a refrigerator and have lost time off of work twice. Now I have to call in the morning to see if maybe they can try a 3rd time. Completely unacceptable.

The first day our warranty was active our AC went out and they sent someone out same day! A week later our TV died and Boom they replaced it. So far we absolutely love the Warrenty. It's a small price that covers big costly items

My garbage disposal went out and all I had to do was open the app and submit a request. It was followed up with a call from the company that was going to be servicing my residence. A couple of days later my garbage disposal was working. The person who came out did the job very quickly.

I have had only one service performed with Home Shield. They changed the locks on my new home, keyed all my locks to the same key and gave me 4 free copies. He was on time, cordial, did a great job, and tested all keys in all locks.
