Plans for Homeowners

Homeowners can choose from three plan options: ShieldSilver™, ShieldGold™, and ShieldPlatinum™. These plans do not require maintenance records or a home inspection.

Customers benefit from a 30-day workmanship guarantee that ensures that the repairs made when you make a claim are well-done.

All American Home Shield members also benefit from discounts on appliances and can receive $25 for referring friends.

ShieldSilver™ Plan

The ShieldSilver™ plan covers heating and cooling systems, a home's electrical systems, and plumbing systems.

For additional protection, you can add coverage for pools, inground spas, septic pump, well pump, and a guest unit. You can also include roof leak repair and an electronics protection plan. Roof leak repair coverage may not be available in all states.

American Home Shield's electronics warranty plan offers coverage for your personal electronics including home theater, computers, printers, tablets, and more when this equipment has defects or experiences mechanical or electrical failure from normal wear and tear.

With the electronics warranty, you'll also benefit from power surge protection and technical support. This protection plan does not require registrations or receipts to issue coverage and has an online claim process. Unfortunately, the electronics warranty is not available in California.

ShieldGold™ Plan

The ShieldGold™ plan covers the same systems that the ShieldSilver™ plan does and includes coverage for kitchen appliances and laundry appliances.

With this plan, you'll have the same options for additional coverage as with the ShieldSilver™ plan.

ShieldSiver™ and ShieldGold™ Cost

Maintenance service fees with the ShieldSilver™ and ShieldGold™ plans are as follows:

  • Trade Service Call Fee — $75, $100, or $125
  • Rekey — $100
  • HVAC tune-up — $75
  • Air filter delivery — starts at $5.25 per air filter

Planholders also benefit from no cap on system repairs and coverage for refrigerants at $10 per pound.

ShieldGold™ plan members also have a $3,000 per appliance coverage limit.

ShieldPlatinum™ Plan

For even more protection, you can choose the ShieldPlatinum™ plan. This warranty plan builds on the ShieldGold™ plan's coverage by including roof leak repair coverage, an HVAC tune-up, and code violation and permit coverage.

You can also add coverage for pools, inground spas, septic pumps, well pumps, and a guest unit. The electronics protection plan is also available with the ShieldPlatinum™ plan.

ShieldPlatinum™ Cost

Maintenance service fees with the Shield Platinum™ plan are below:

  • Trade service call fee — $75, $100, or $125

ShieldPlatinum™ members also benefit from unlimited refrigerant coverage, $1,500 for roof leak repairs, unlimited coverage for systems, $6,000 per appliance, and $1,000 per year for code violations, permits, and modifications.

Plans for Real Estate Professionals

Like homeowners, real estate professionals can choose from three warranty plan options: ShieldEssential™, ShieldPlus™, and ShieldComplete™.

ShieldEssential™ Plan

The ShieldEssential™ offers protection for air conditioning, heating, ductwork, plumbing, electrical systems, water heaters, insufficiently maintained equipment, refrigerant (recapture, reclaim, and disposal), removal of defective equipment, and rekeying.

This plan also covers failure related to rust, corrosion, undetectable pre-existing conditions, mismatched systems, and improper installations, repairs, and modifications. You'll also benefit from $250 each contract term in coverage for permit fees and code violations each.

ShieldPlus™ Plan

The ShieldPlus™ plan offers similar coverage and includes laundry appliances and kitchen appliances.

ShieldComplete™

With the ShieldComplete™ plan, you'll have the most coverage. This plan offers the same coverage as the ShieldPlus plan™ and includes ceiling fans, telephone wiring, doorbells, garage door openers, instant hot and cold water dispensers, and built-in fans (exhaust, attic, and whole house fans).

Additional Coverage Options

With any of these warranty plans, real estate professionals can add coverage for well pumps, septic system pumping and septic sewage ejector pumps, swimming pool equipment, spa equipment, salt water equipment, and up to four refrigerators. In Texas, you can add coverage for subterranean termites as a home buyer or seller.

Seller Coverage Option

Seller coverage is available to qualifying homeowners with an American Home Shield warranty already in place. Details regarding eligibility requirements beyond already having an American Home Shield Warranty are limited online.

This seller coverage offers protection for your home while it's on the market for up to six months with the potential to renew. You won't have to pay for the warranty coverage until you close on the sale. While your home is listed, you'll benefit from up to $2,000 on covered repairs and replacements.

If you're considering this additional coverage while selling your home, pay attention to limitations and exclusions with the plan.

Contract Information

A standard home warranty contract with American Home Shield is 12 months. The seller coverage plan option is six months and may be renewed.

Exclusions and Limitations

Home warranties are meant to cover damage from normal wear and tear. American Home Shield warranties cover normal wear and tear, poor maintenance, rust, corrosion, sediment, mismatched systems, and undetectable pre-existing conditions. The warranties also cover damage from mistakes with installations, repairs, and modifications.

Plans do not offer coverage when damage is covered by the manufacturer, distributor, builder, or an extended warranty. American Home Shield's warranties are also only for residential buildings, not commercial buildings or homes used as business locations.

For more information on exclusions and limitations, American Home Shield offers a sample contract online for each type of coverage it offers. This transparency makes it easy to research and understand terms and conditions before purchasing a warranty.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel your home warranty at any time by calling American Home Shield. However, some fees may apply depending on when you cancel.

If you cancel within the first 30 days of your warranty, you'll receive your contract fees minus the cost of any service and claims received.

If you cancel after the first 30 days, you'll receive prorated contract fees for the remainder of the contract term minus the cost of any service or claims. Depending on where you live, you may also be charged an administration fee (up to one month's payment). This fee will usually be subtracted from your refund of prorated contract fees.

If you're selling your home, you can transfer the warranty to the new buyer. You'll also need to call American Home Shield to complete the transfer.

I purchased HS this year my washer of 5 yrs went out ( stop spinning) I filed a claim ( very easy and quickly) a tech was scheduled to out before the end of the week. He was prompt and great communication in regards of his arrival . He quickly assessed my machine. HS authorized a new machine I had many options of a replacement to choose from from. Because it was older my I I had a few hundred dollars credit towards a brand new machine my options were from $100 '$5000. I Chose a $100 one and I Love it.. it's much bigger faster and it holds more close .so I paid a total including the deductible $200 for a newer better machine. I originally paid apx $7- $800 00 for it

American Home Shield (AHS) has been a godsend for me! Before AHS, I had 3 major appliances go out in the same year multiple times. With the skyrocketing cost of service, I paid thousands out of pocket. I saw the commercial for AHS and decided to give it a try. I am so-o-o-o glad that I made that call. In the last year alone, AHS replaced my $10K heat pump and $1.5K refrigerator. Do the math. That would take me about 2 decades in premiums to pay all that back. If you are debating signing up, DON'T! Get AHS. They have sent out only 4 to 5-star service providers that know what they are doing. When they can't fix, they offer to replace, give you a check for the full retail price, or even give you options to upgrade (and pay the difference) should you choose. The premiums are very reasonable and they cover just about everything. I can't say a single bad thing about these guys. Thank you, AHS! I am an AHS customer for life!

When my a/c crapped out, a service tradesman came within two to three days. He determined that it couldn't be repaired, and the entire unit needed to be replaced. He order the unit, and in just a little more than a month, he came to my home and installed the entire unit. The tradesman and his assdistantwere thorough and professional. I had to hire a handy man to remove the door and door frame to the utility closet in order to remove the inside a/c unit and replace it. It just so happened that a handy man was working on a project at my home, so he removed the access don't and frame to facilitate the ease in replacing the inside a/c unit.

My interaction with the sales department, prior to making the decision to purchase the American Home Shield warranty oh, those interactions were good and mostly pain-free. However, all of the interactions with the American Home Shield customer service department, to include calling in to report a new event / claim, all of those interactions were tainted with a slight yet obvious language barrier because American Home Shield evidently uses an overseas call center for their customer service department. This has made my perception of American Home Shield I bit less than desirable, and as a result I did not give American Home Shield a 5-star rating.

Awesome experience has had no problems with American home shield. We switched from Choice home warranty because they refused to fix our a/c after having them for several years. Plumber came out and fixed the issue next day. However we still had an issue a week or so later (the faucet was completely corroded and wouldn't turn) The plumber must have knew it was going to be an issue because the next time he came out he had the faucet and fixed it in less than 2 mins. If they knew the issue the first time they should have just fixed it. But at least the problem was solved. Not sure it was worth the $100 fee... but at least I didn't have to pay twice.

Old refrigerator in the garage quit working. Repairman determined that a short was causing the refrigerator to trip the ground fault switch. He could not find the short and recommended American Home Shield replace the refrigerator. We received a gift card from Lowes to buy a new refrigerator. I began my experiences with AHS in Southern California in the 1970's and they were phenomenal through the decades I had them. When we bought this house in Texas the AHS program was part of the sale. I was less than impressed and I switched to two different companies. When AHS contacted me to return to them this past winter I was hesitant. Since the other two companies were not what I'd hoped they'd be, I decided to give AHS one last go. This time, months later, we had a major plumbing problem and AHS sent several companies out to check it. I wasn't trusting them and asked to have my own plumber who instantly knew exactly what we needed. AHS did pay their portion of the negotiated repairs. Not the entire amount but enough for me to be satisfied. For now, so long as they remain as responsive as they've been this year, I will happily stay with them. It is reassuring to know that they actually will cover major repairs. Their prices are competitive as well. One company I was with made us pay out of pocket for a relatively late model water heater, then submit the invoice to them. Their rate of reimbursement was a huge disappointment. It is too bad that AHS now has their customer service department outsourced in a faraway foreign country and it does take some extra time getting them to realize what the issues are if the repair is a complicated one. For the normal everyday repairs this works out just fine. We actually did get to speak with a local representative when we decided to stay with them. It is nice to know that they do exist...you just have to be persistent to get to them if your situations warrants it.

I just joined the Home Shield Contract Several Month's ago. And boy was I Lucky I had to use them 2 times already. The first time My AC went out and they had Somebody out the Next day, and He Fixed it in a short period of time a couple hours. And I paid the $100. service call and I did not have to Spend another Dime, and it works Like New. So I am Very Happy with them!

We have had AHS just over 2 years. They have been extremely diligent in resolving our warranty needs which have been more frequent than we certainly anticipated. The last AHS agent to help me get an appointment with a vendor was named Anthony and he was extraordinary in resolving a booking issue over a dryer repair. He is working out of a call center and he made sure that we set agreed times for him to call me back to verify things were handled when there was some unforeseen glitches in their system. And the vendors they use have been extremely prompt & professional. We usually have the repairs done within 5 days.

only issue was nit having a plumber in our area and given a very long list of those we couldn't use, we didnt have time to call everyone to try and find someone who would drive to our location to give a quote and wait for authorization. we ended up paying out of pocket and fighting with AHS to get our deductible back. The process was stressful and the only reason we wont renew.

I have had two issues, one was resolved quickly. The second issue, with my range and range hood was reported over a week ago. The assigned vender was supposed to come out about five days aster reported. He gave me a six hour window, from noon to 6pm. They never showed up, never called, just allowed us to wait. We have finally gotten the job reassigned,it have not heard from the new vendor. Working on two weeks.

My last experience with AHS was not very good to say the least, I'm not feeling very confident with the way that the team handles the claims that are submitted, if it wasn't for the contractor that was assigned to my home and the way that they followed up on my claim due to the negligent claim processing of my clothes dryer , I would have been in a world of trouble , my claim was closed after I was told that I would have to pay an extremely high amount to repair my dryer by the AHS representative, I'm so thankful that the contractor stepped in and got in touch with AHS and then AHS decided to help with replacing the clothes dryer after nearly 20 days, I don't use the warranty much so when I need them I expect AHS to be there for me just as I pay them to do.

I’ve been with AHS for a long time and I have had many service requests. Some things have been covered and some not. One situation had an extremely negative outcome. My dishwasher died and I never had it looked at, but when my refrigerator died a while later, I submitted a service request. It took a long time to get a repair person out, so I had to use ice and a cooler for several days. They looked at the dishwasher and refrigerator and reported back to AHS, and AHS decided that neither was covered because it must have been a power surge, which was not true because I have a special plug on my refrigerator to prevent that from happening.

I think AHS is a good company and, overall, would recommend them. However, I've notice their customer service level has gone down and would rate as a 3-3.5 due the difficulty in reaching a supervisor. Also, it appears they do not have a dedicated response area for direct complaints to upper management and/or the department that approves subcontractors for complaints against said subcontractors.

AHS has completely turned around my opinion. After a few bad experiences several years ago I considered dropping them, but since then they have been amazingly good. The contractors are much better, coverage is great, and response from both vendors & AHS has been well above expectations.

I have had to have a few service calls. Was satisfied with the prompt service. Not pleased with having to place a couple of service calls for my air conditioner n having to pay for the freon both times within a year. $90 the first time n $130 most recently. I don’t understand why the problem couldn’t just be fixed immediately instead of filling it with freon that is just going to leak. So far I’m very pleased with my washing machine service . Have not yet received my reimbursement because I just made the purchase n submitted the receipt to AHS.

I called about a problem I'm having with my laptop. Before I added the electronics coverage, I asked if service was provided in house - I was told Yes. When I called I was told that I would receive a box in 5 days to mail my laptop to them, and that I should remove any login pasword, and backup my computer prior to shipping it since their actions could result in loss of some or all of my data. Since my computer won't boot, none of this was possible. I cancelled my claim and called AHW to express my opinion about this service. After 2 hours on the phone, being transferred from person to person, I was told that I could not file a complaint with AMW about the eletronics warrenty/policy since you didn't service electronics. However, I pay YOU for the electronics coverage, and YOU contract for this service to a 2nd party. If one of you customers has an issue with this 2nd party, YOU should be informed about it.

All of our home repair issues have been successfully resolved by American Home Shield. The techs have been knowledgeable and capable and nice. The biggest negative is that service takes longer to be scheduled than if hiring service normally, and our dishwasher replacement took a very long time. However, we think that is to be expected for home warranty service. The main thing is that repairs have been successful. I love the website and the ease with which to put it a service request (no more holding on the phone!) and it seems that they are all the time trying to improve their processes.

I was skeptical at first not really knowing what to expect. I thought when it was time to ask for a service to be done, that it would be a long drawn out process, a hassle or I would get the run around. To my surprise when I put in a order for a service to be done. It was very smooth and easy. You just check the box letting them know which item, and the problem, then they send you the information of the person that will be contacting you to provide the service. The company that came out to provide the service, was very professional, fixed the problem and left. My only regret is the fact that it took me so long to purchase a home warranty. The best feeling you can give yourself is a peace of mind and I definitely received it with American Home Shield.
