I ended up having to pay out $1500 of pocket costs for mistakes made by an AHS contractor. I disputed the costs but had to pay them to get my heat fixed during the winter. I asked to be reimbursed since the problem was clearly the fault of the contractor. AHS basically just chose to ignore me. Every time I call I’m told I’ll receive a call back and I never do. I’ve asked to speak with someone other than the customer service people and I’m always denied.

AHS promised to issue a refund of my $75.00 service fee due to AHS dropping the ball in getting my hot water heater. I went 3 weeks without hot water. It took 3 weeks to get the hot water heater in the midst of extreme cold weather. I’ve called many times following up on my refund. They lie to me promising it will be refunded As of yet, no refund. I’ve incurred an increased water bill, I have lost faith and trust in AHS. I’ve talked to 2 plumbing companies that no longer work with AHS because they end up not paying the contractor after telling them they would. Just like they have done to me. Now 2 times. First time back in summer of 2021 and again in winter of 2022 for the hot water heater.

American Home Shield is a nice comfort to have as additional protection but the prices have gotten a little outrageous. This will be our last year with them due to the yearly increase in price. We use the service but not enough to continue enduring this. It's also very difficult to get an American agent. Sometimes the language barrier is too much to encounter when you're already frustrated from a malfunctioning item.

I had a contractor tell me they were unable to complete a job and they would report back to AHS. It has been over a month and my bathroom is still unusable and I have spiked to AHS five times and keep getting the same run around. I just need a contractor to come out and complete the service. Other than this serious issue, service has been adequate.

Got my free furnace check up, they said they didn’t have a Contractor to do it, but I could find my own if I wanted, is my dislike. My like, when my 15 year old washer broke down, they replaced it with a brand new one.

Opening a claim seems more difficult than it should be, often requiring a call but their support staff is always knowledgeable and helpful. Would prefer if they cut poorly reviewed service providers from their pool.

We love the idea of this service. We have had mixed results thus far so consider that "average." It is expensive for our budget. It is difficult to talk to anyone in person until you get the sub-contractor. The website is key and a learning curve for me to figure out.

I like the customer service, and they will find you a vendor for the work. I don’t like to have to pay for a warranty yearly, and then a deductible to be told that if the job is major your not covered and you have to pay out of pocket and I’m supposed to be insured.

We contacted Patriot Plumbing regarding our water heater replacement and have yet to hear from them. So we are going with someone else given it has to be an out of pocket expense. Disappointing not get a callback to schedule this work.

Over the past few years the service has started to drop. All customer service reps have been outsourced to an overseas call center and they provide fame American names. Less and less contractors are working with AHS because they've made it extremely difficult and this has caused extreme delays in services and repairs. Took over a month to get my furnace repaired. I had to find my own contractor and guess what? He was in-network with AHS. What once was an extremely good company has become mediocre. From speaking with contractors it's still the best option though.

AWFUL SERVICE! My water heater went out and I contacted AHS. They assigned a contractor to come fix it but he did not show up. I tried several times to contact him myself but he would never answer. Contacted AHS and explained the problem. They advised they would try to contact the contractor. He still didn't answer. They said they would have to escalate the issue to "Contractor Relations" and somebody would be in touch with me with 24 hours. 3 days later and still no hot water nobody from AHS has contacted me. So, I went out and bout the water heater myself and replaced it as well. Im not going without hot water. I called AHS back and told them nobody has contacted me so I had to replace it myself and I wanted my $125 service fee refunded. After about the 5th scripted apology they told me it would take 21 days to get refunded. They will not refund the $569 dollars I had to spend for the water heater. I still haven't got my service fee refunded. This was my first claim with AHS and definitely my last. BUYER BEWARE!!! I will not recommend this company to anybody. In fact, I'll steer them clear of it. And PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE A SCRIPTED COMMENT ABOUT HOW YOU HATE TO HEAR ABOUT MY INCONVENIENCE.

I have been struggling to get my refrigerator issue solved for over 2 months. They have charged me $125 call fee and already closed the service call as complete while I do not have a working refrigerator. They take no ownership or responsibility to follow up with the service providers, they do not maintain any support call logs to track issues. I call almost every week and their associates ask me start all over with the whole history. Frustrating part is every associate gives me same answers that we will resolve this with in 24 hrs and then there is no follow-up. Next week I start at beginning again. I wish there was some consumer forum or court where I can sue them.

It's been 3 months and our refrigerator has been broken. They engaged Express Appliance which nearly burned down our house. They burned the refrigerator electrical circuit. They had no experience with Subzero refrigerator. Then they wouldn't come to change the circuit, I had to call an electrician who came and refused to work because refrigerator was too heavy and he couldn't move it. I had to hire a mover to pull the fridge out so that electrician could fix the circuit. Then had to call Express Appliance back again and they came and said they don't have the parts. Now 3 months later. AHS has to review this case and let us know what they want to do. This is ridiculous!

Ice Maker and Wash machines repairs were both initially denied because Universal 1 Repair service that AHS hired to dispatch blamed home owner for overloading appliances which was completely fraudulent claim and not true with homeowner being a single household with below average use of appliances. Homeowner had to request second opinion service call from another company assigned by AHS before finally getting any action on the claim. The part could not be ordered and AHS offered to replace with compatible or like appliance but real cost was much more from retailer. Wash machine replacement offer from AHS was at a fraction of the cost of real replacement cost that home owner received quoted from multiple appliance retailers including Home Depot and Lowes and several other local appliance stores. Icemaker was never repaired properly even after 3 visits by repair service and homeowner paid for 2 separate service dispatches.

My dishwasher broke in Nov 2022. On Jan 4, 2023 Sears said they cannot fix it & submitted it to AHS for replacement. I have called AHS every 3 days since asking for it to be resolved. I am told every 3 days that I will have it resolved in 24-48 hours guaranteed. I just called again today 01/27/23 & am now being told I have to start all over with sears even though they closed out my ticket saying that it cannot be fixed, it needs to be replaced. Really ridiculous. I asked to speak to a supervisor & was told, I'm wasting my time, they will tell me the same thing. I have now called about 7-8 times & not resolved. They use to be really good on their customer service many years ago when I owned another property, but I will definitely be looking for another provider after this.

My electric stove has been fixed twice and it always breaks down every 2 months or so. It's always short circuiting, sparks al over. Now it only has one little stove working, everytime i call to be fixed, AHS charges ne 100.00. They just change the small part and like i said the stove is from the 70s needs to be totally replaced.

I’ve had three service calls with American home shield and the first one he fix the problem, but did not do everything that AHS phone Rep said that he would do. Number two solved three out of the four problems with plumbing. And number three service came back and fix the fourth problem.

My refrigerator went out the day before Christmas, I called and filed a claim. The first available appointment was January 10th. The tech came out and stated the compressor had gone out and the whole unit would need to be replaced. They then assigned 2 more companies to come out but when they found out it was a sealed system they cancelled the appointment. I then called everyday just to be told that they couldn't find anyone to work on it. I said then replace it and they said no they had to find someone to fix it. It has been over a month of living out of ice chest, my husband is disabled and I run a home dessert business and this has been a total hardship for us. I call almost everyday to be told the same thing, there working on it!

AHS did not complete my claim properly, and did not communicate properly. then the customer service rep was extremely rude and disrespectful. I have been waiting for over 7 months to have paid 2 service fees for one appliance and AHS has still not fixed it. they send out one company after another and now we are having a 5th company come to see the same appliance. another appliance was looked at and I was told that parts will be ordered for it. now AHS is telling me that they sent an email to let me know that its not covered cuz according to the contractor that damage was due to force. when I requested they send another contractor out cuz this contractor told me it will be replaced, and gave AHS wrong info, AHS said I should have replied to their email from December, which I did not get! they kept arguing with me and being rude, and then put me on mute and stoped responding until I hung up and called again.

Rating is a strong 4 or 4+. On occasions, a dispatch will be determined not to be covered such as a washer in an outdoor faucet. I would like the coverage to be determined before dispatch.

Doesn’t always cover things that quit working. For example, when we bought our house the garbage disposal worked. Shortly after, it quit working and American Homeshield said they wouldn’t replace it because it was old and rusty. I looked at it and it was not rusted. I don’t know how old our disposal is, but it should have been covered.

We have been paying customers of American Home Shield since 2006 and are the first to live in a newly constructed home. Around 2014 we started having issues with our HVAC system and AHS would patch/repair every year. In 2017 there was an issue with the attic unit of our HVAC system that resulted in a small fire. AHS replaced that but not the air handler outside. During the extreme cold of January 2023 the outside air handler could not be repaired and they have denied replacement and stated because it's not compatible with the unit upstairs and was improperly installed. The only technicians to EVER touch our system was sent by American Home Shield. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME BEING SCAMMED/LONG CONNED BY AMERICAN HOME SHIELD.

I had an awful experience with American Home Shield recently. My tankless hot water heater stopped heating the water. My issue is the time frame that a repair takes place. They try to hide behind so many different excuses to fix anything. My contractor assigned to the job spent a day on hold with the manufacturer of the water heater. Evidently, they have to try and described the problem and let the manufacturer tell them what to fix. If what they fix doesn't work, which is rarely covered by your warranty, you pay. This happened to me and I spent over $500.00 "fixing" things that didn't work. I finally got upset and had a new hot water heater installed after not having hot water for a week. No telling how much longer I would have had to wait for them to finally come to the conclusion that I needed a new water heater. I had my sick mother in hospice care here at my home. I was caring for her and heating water in pots and having to carry them to her room. American Home Shield knew of my issues and made no attempt to get things expedited to help. I finally took a "payout ", which means American Home Shield pays you back what they would have paid for a hot water heater. The amount is not even half of what I spent using the same contractor they sent. I still don't have the money and I have no clue when it will come. My mother passed away. Not blaming them, but the customer care people you speak to, which are all in a call center in another country, are no help. They just read back pre-written answers to your questions. And good luck trying to understand them. So, NO, I do not recommend this company and as soon as I get my money back I will change companies and hopefully find one that is at least here in the US. Wow, they are called "American" Home Shield.

Most service calls were great. One not so good. Tech said thermostat was bad when he just didn’t have the skill to reprogram it after a power failure. Getting a refund was a hassle.
