Multiple Fee Options

With American Home Shield, customers pay a trade service call fee for a professional to help them with their problem, then fix the system or appliance or replace it. The three options for this service fee are $75, $100, and $125, which gives customers flexibility in how much they pay each month for their plan coverage. The higher the trade service call fee, the lower the amount the customer will pay each month.

Upfront Contract Information

American Home Shield offers a sample contract on its website, making it easy for customers to get an idea of what the company offers. American Home Shield also states upfront that the company does not require a home inspection in order to purchase a warranty plan and will not limit coverage based on the age of any of your home systems or appliances, making it easier for customers to get warranty coverage.

This upfront contract information helps the customer decide early on if American Home Shield is a home warranty company that will work for their needs. 

No Home Inspection

Unlike some home warranty providers, American Home Shield does not require a home inspection or maintenance records before using its services. Had our mini split A/C diagnosed May 8th by the appointed contractor. The tech said they will submit results and takes 6-8 days to get a control board. Waited two weeks and called the contractor. They said the diagnosis was approved but not the repair? Checked my policy, we have the 3X3 coverage . I called AHS a week later and the customer service rep said he would email the Authorization Dept and get them in touch with me. Waited two more weeks, called the contractor and they hadn’t heard a word from AHS. So I called again today ( keep in mind you will be listening to hold music for well over an hour) and spoke to someone with a strong India accent. He gave me the same excuses and story they previously gave me. He assured me that he ESCALATED his email to the Authorities. They will make decision and call me back. Total time on the phone today, one hour and 52 minutes. Haven’t heard a word from the Authorization Dept either. Zero calls back. My contractor will not call AHS because their receptionist would be tied up on the phone for well over an hour. Bottom line is the worst customer service I have ever had. A/C broken for two months now and Sunday the 12th it will be 116 in Phoenix.

I love that the company is always exactly on point with what they offer when you call them for a service. They do exactly what they say they will do. They have provided new replacements to two appliances that failed, and were not repairable. The companies that they contract with have all been outstanding, and the service personnel of these companies have been very polite, professional, and very competent. I would not want to be without American Home Shield!

Horrible. Wait times are excessive. Can be over an hour. Less than two if you are lucky. I have waited a week to get a service scheduled. AHS says that they don't have a provider in my area, but before they admitted this they gave me the name and number for a company that doesn't seem to be in business. It has now been a week, I have reached out by phone, email and facebook. Cannot get resolution. Call center tells me that everything is just fine and it will be resolved in 24 hours... but it never is.

Because the first time they came they didn't actually fix the problem and the second time they came they didn't even know what the problem was, there was absolutely no follow-up--even though I was told there would be, and yet, both times I had to pay $75, and I've been harassed to rate the company, so here we are.

Frustrating that the first serviceman you sent out gave sorry diagnosis and we had to request a second company. You did cover it as you should have from the first. It’s very hard to get thru when calling so went several weeks without pool heater.

First of all they do not answer the phone. Secondly, they assign some company that won't be out for nearly a week. My refrigerator is not working, and I need faster service. I have thrown out tons of food. I have tried to call then and all I get is some loud music.

Terrible phone service. Took 30 minutes on hold for someone to answer, then 30 minutes on hold while rep was "calling the Service Provider", then line went dead.
