Hearing Aid, Not an Amplifier

Eargo is a hearing aid. All Eargo’s devices amplify sounds at specific frequencies to compensate for hearing loss, meaning the hearing aid uses an algorithm to determine how much output to deliver to your ear. This is different from an amplifier as amplifiers amplify all sounds equally. 

According to the Eargo’s website, Eargo is a Class II FDA Registered Exempt Medical Device intended for individuals 18 years old or older with mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss. 

Currently, Eargo offers the following three hearing aid models:

  • Eargo 7 — A small hearing aid (approximately the size of a thumbnail) that offers noise reduction technology and elevated listening personalization options, allowing you to tailor your hearing aid to your specific needs.
  • Eargo SE — A virtually invisible hearing aid with four preset listening options.
  • Link by Eargo — An earbud-style hearing aid with Bluetooth connectivity. Link by Eargo allows you to stream phone calls and music while also enhancing your hearing.

Prices and Financing

Consumers can expect to pay anywhere from $799 to $2,950 for Eargo’s hearing devices — the price will vary depending on which device you choose. But the costs include the two hearing aids, charger, and extra Flexis and wax guards.

While this may seem like a lot when compared to amplifiers (which generally cost around $300), you get what you pay for. Eargo’s devices treat mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss, are incredibly discreet, breathable, and comfortable. Plus, Eargo provides its customers with unlimited lifetime support to a licensed hearing professional via phone and Eargo is a Class II FDA Registered Exempt Medical Device. Amplifiers are extremely noticeable, and don’t come with any licensed support.

When comparing Eargo to a traditional hearing aid, there are several advantages to Eargo. Conventional hearing devices treat moderate to profound hearing loss, are quite noticeable, can be uncomfortable for glasses wearers, require an in-clinic fitting and follow-ups, and cost around $4,000. 

However, if you can’t pay for a device entirely upfront, Eargo offers financing through its partner company, Bread.

No Hearing Test Needed

You don’t need a hearing test to purchase an Eargo device. That being said, you will need to complete a free Eargo hearing screener, which allows the company to suggest devices and features based on your specific needs.

Rechargeable Battery

According to Eargo, your portable charger’s battery will last up to seven days and only takes about two hours to fully recharge. 

It takes about six hours to charge a fully depleted hearing aid, so Eargo recommends charging them while you sleep. At full charge, you’ll have about 16 hours of hearing aid power for the day. 

It is estimated that your hearing aid’s life expectancy is around three years; after that, Eargo suggests getting a new pair. 

Not only does your Eargo case house your hearing aids, but it is also your charger. Once your case is fully charged, Eargo states that it can power your hearing aids for up to an entire week.

Patented Flexi Fibers

Eargo’s patented Flexi Fibers are a revolutionary breakthrough in the hearing device design. 

The Flexi Fibers hold the Eargo in place, allowing it to float inside your ear. They also allow natural low frequencies to enter your eardrum, giving you a nice mix of ambient and amplified sounds.

Device Warranties

Eargo has a limited warranty that covers defects in material and workmanship. This includes the hearing device’s internal components, charger cord, and plug (within the original warranty valid starting from the date of delivery). Customers can either choose from a one-year or two-year warranty at the time of purchase.

The Bottom Line

Eargo is a fantastic option for those suffering from mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss. The company offers three unique, modern, and advanced hearing aids that are sure to be comfortable and discreet. Eargo’s Flexi Fibers’ unique design allows the device to suspend in your ear and enable low ambient sounds to pass through so only the high (treble) sounds have to be amplified.

Unfortunately, Eargo doesn’t ship outside of the United States and customers should be aware of the exclusions to the warranty. But other than that, we strongly recommend consumers give Eargo’s hearing aids a chance.

I have been wearing Eargo hearing aids for 18 months now. I definitely can hear better now. I no longer need to turn the volume up high on the TV and have less difficulty hearing other people when they speak. I find the Eargos very comfortable to wear. All of my communication with Eargo Customer Care staff has been very positive. I happily tell everyone about them and definitely would recommend them to anyone who has mild to moderate hearing loss. It does take time to get used to wearing them at first but the videos the company provides in their app offer guidance from the moment you open the box through all the steps you need to take to have a successful experience of wearing them and caring for them.

After a few happy years as an Eargo 5 customer, I upgraded to the Eargo 7. Same fit and style, but with some nifty new features build in. I love how Eargo fits completely in the canal and is not visible to others. The quality is fabulous, and Eargo has greatly improved my quality of life. I'm very thankful for my Eargos and I intend to remain an Eargo customer for a long time. Customer service is excellent, and they are always responsive to any issues.

I think Eargo hearing aids deliver superior hearing sound. And, being in the ear instead of “hanging” on the outside they are more secure. I used that type for almost 10 years and actually lost one while camping. I think a low hanging branch caught it and flipped it away. I had another one get flipped off while shoveling snow. Fortunately I was able to recover that one. The end result was that I no longer wore them while doing any outside activity. They were very susceptible to shutdown should any moisture get on them. With Eargo I feel more secure in that they should not be likely to fall out. And my ear lobes provide a degree of protection from incidental moisture, at least until I can get out of the precipitation.

I’ve had my Eargo hearing devices for five months, and I have had the best experience using them! Not only is my hearing much better, but no one knows that I am wearing them (I sometimes forget myself), and I feel more confident in participating in conversations I used to shy away from. I would also like to note that if I had any issues or questions with the devices, the Eargo support team has been very reachable, helpful and have always followed up to ensure my devices work properly with helpful insights on firmware updates and proper usage, etc. I’ve learned to resolve some of my own issues by changing the preset programs.🙂 I highly recommend Ergo for a better hearing experience!

I have had the Eargo 7's for a couple of months now, I was initially concerned they would cause ear aches as I have sensitive ears , this proved to be incorrect, I find them to be very comfortable and have nearly went to bed with them still in my ears. I experimented for a while to see which setting would work the best in different situations. I have mild to moderate hearing loss from a 20 year career in the Air Force, I find these hearing aids help me to hear people from a distance again, the TV doesn't need to be turned up so loud anymore, and I just like them.

Upon receiving my Eargo 7s [purchased directly] I was, and still am, very impressed with the overall ingenuity of their design. Having previously used, sporadically, a reprogrammed, recycled pair of older Miracle Ear devices, I especially appreciate Eargo’s nearly invisible in-ear design, rechargeability, smartphone interface and user-adjustability. Even before employing the Sound Match feature, I immediately noticed a welcome improvement in both the quality and clarity of my hearing. The Live Support is particularly outstanding; and in all its forms, the help available is extraordinary.

Outstanding products. I started out in 2020 with the Eargo 5's to help with my mild to moderate hearing loss and tinnitus. Significantly improved my hearing and even reduced the tinnitus. I upgraded to the Eargo 7's, which have even more technology, in January 2024 and absolutely love them. The Customer Service Department at Eargo is Fantastic! They have real people that really care. They go out of their way to answer questions, resolve issues or simply help you make adjustments or understand your hearing devices. Great value compared to traditional hearing aids that may or may not work as well as Eargos! I have found them to be a first rate company with honest people who make a quality product. I highly recommend!

I love my Eargo 7's! I'm amazed that they help me to hear everyone at the table in a noisy restaurant, which is what frustrated me (and my family!) before I wore hearing aids. They are very comfortable, I can happily wear them all day when I need to. Battery lasts best part of a full day before needing a recharge. I wish it was possible to replace the battery, because as it stands I'm looking at buying a replacement set in about 3 years' time, but all things considered these are a miracle for the price. My family didn't even know I was wearing them at first, they are almost invisible! Also, their pre AND after-sales support is great too. Buy with confidence.

I was an Eargo customer about 5 years ago and selected that hearing aid because it was the best option on the market for being virtually invisible and completely adequate for my age related hearing loss. In the intervening years the earlier model no longer function. So, I made a wide search for available hearing aid options comparing price, features, and appearance. This included both over-the-ear and in-the-ear options. I saw that Eargo remained the best option for me for all the reasons I have mentioned and ordered the Eargo 7 model. I have found it to be everything they advertised it to be and am completely satisfied. I chose the 2-year-no-interest payment plan and find this a very convenient option for my purposes as well.

As we age so unfortunately so do our parents. My father was having trouble hearing. We even thought he was not processing correctly because of the hearing issue. The grandkids felt he was yelling at them. They often avoided talking to him. His great grandson loved him but ran when he spoke. I could see he was isolating himself. He was not having the same fun conversations with the family. I finally convinced him to go to Best Buy to purchase hearing aids. When he saw how small the device was, he agreed to try them. I did the hearing test with him that prove to him he needed them. He put them on and now only takes them off to recharge them. He can have conversations! I just spoke to him on the phone and he was able to speak to me and understand everything I said. Before he got the eargo... he had his phone so loud his neighbors could hear the speaker and he could not. I see it has even improved his driving made him more aware. His processing has improved because he now understands what we are saying. I wish he had purchased eargo years ago. What a BIG difference a small device CAN HAVE! It gave him back quality of life. I also have never dealt with a company that has such helpful support. It is a pleasure to speak with representatives who speak English and fully know their product.

I have been wearing my Eargo 7s for 9 months now and they have been all that I hoped they would be AND MORE. Comfortable, invisible, excellent quality normal hearing and super adjustable by either tapping my ear to switch modes or finer control with the app. In social situations, parties, restaurants, etc.. I am very comfortable hearing others clearly and can participate in conversations I felt I was left out of before hearing was restored with Eargo aids. Also TV volume is not only down by more than 1/2 but I can understand dialogue clearly. Also I no longer have to constantly ask my wife what she said, or speak louder, which was bothersome to us both. The technology in these tiny devices is hard to comprehend, battery life lasts from first thing in the morning till I take them out and recharge them at night. Plus they are so comfortable, I almost always forget I even have them and need to remember to take them out before I get in bed, or before a shower. I should mention also that the company and support staff are the best I have ever experienced for any product. They want to make sure you are happy with your Eargos and they stand behind them 1000%. I would highly recommend the Eargo line to anyone even thinking they might need hearing assist. I tried them knowing if I did not like them they were fully refundable within 45 days. But personally I knew day one, they were exceptional, and I felt very fortunate I was willing to try them out.

As a newcomer to hearing aids, I researched the new OTC varieties. I was interested in an “in the ear device” and wanted one that was “self fitting”. I read about and decided to go with the EARGO 7. These were more expensive than many other OTC devices. But they had what I wanted and they also came with hearing specialists serving as support. I have not been disappointed. At first I worried that my ear canals were too small for the devices, but my hearing support person was outstanding in offering suggestions to me, and was even able to modify the sound coming into my particular devices based on my comment to her regarding high frequency sounds I was hearing. She gave suggestions and concrete methods regarding inserting the devices. After this, I have been very satisfied and comfortable with my “new” ears!

I have well not good hearing, but not terrible either. I use the aids when going out to hear conversations in restaurants and other venues, I now can go out to dinner at a dinner with a show venue I can hear my friends. These hearing aids are by far the best ones in terms of sound quality and background noise reduction. I like the different volume levels for different situations. Plus, they are amazingly comfortable. After a bit, I do not even notice them. Worth the investment for me. The small portable case also acts as charging base and it also helps carry and store the pieces safely, but the top comes off too easily and needs a small redesign to provide a latch to ensure the case does not open by mistake. They are tiny, discreet, and comfortable. Best of all, they are effective. I had doubts when I first received them and spent time talking to support staff to find out what I was doing wrong and better ways to work with the aids, the staff was incredibly supportive and helped me to achieve my desired hearing levels. My left ear has a large canal that with the large petals works great, my right ear has a small canal, and the medium petals are still a bit too large and could use a smaller petal I believe. The iPhone application is easy to use, but I wished it gave status information, like battery levels, and other status items.

I've been wearing the Eargo 7's for about 2 months. I'm 63 and they are my first hearing aids. I had no idea how bad my hearing had gotten. I absolutely love the custom zones. In addition to the normal setting, I have mine set for "Restaurant, TV and Music." I was stunned when I used the 'Music' setting to listen to a very expensive stereo system. I felt the music took me back to what it sounded like in high school. Yeah, they are expensive, but they are worth every penny.

I’m a real fan of Eargo brand hearing aids. I now am on my third set of Eargos.. I liked my first and second set so well that when the Eargo seven came out, I decided to get them. I am so glad I did! They are very small, so small that they are undetectable while being worn. They charge quickly, and the charge lasts all day. They are easy to care for and, best of all they work really well. As for Customer Service, it’s the best! A day or two after receiving my Eargo, I received a call from a representative asking how I like them, if I had any questions, or if there was anything that I needed in the way of assistance. Since I am so familiar with Eargo, there was nothing that I needed from them right now. However, I know from past experience that if I have a problem, Eargo will be there to help solve it.

I’ve been an EARGO user since 2015. I would have ditched my regular hearing aids sooner, but the states of Oregon and Washington wouldn’t allow EARGO sales. I was immediately captured by the form factor and comfort. I wore the trial units for months without issue. The idea of not having to mess with batteries had great appeal. So when EARGO was able to sell in my state, I immediately purchased a set and put them to work. It’s been a great 7 year journey and I have no complaints…only high praise. The recharging function is pure genius and the ear pieces feel so natural, it’s almost like not wearing anything in my ears. I just upgraded to the EARGO 6 because it doesn’t make sense to keep purchasing non-water resistant EARGO systems (I have 4 empty cases to remind me of the EARGO comfort level). In fact, I took a shower with my new EARGO 6’s the first week I owned them! While I’ve only owned my EARGO 6’s a few weeks, I can tell you now that I absolutely love them … for all the reasons I switched to EARGO in 2015 plus the latest in cutting edge technology in 2022. When I transferred my hearing profile to my EARGO devices using the charging case … I immediately knew that future updates and improvements will be a significant advantage in terms of always having the latest software. As to hardware, the power of the digital processor is immediately obvious … and even though I’m getting a more powerful system … 16 hours of use is a piece of cake. The list is long as to why I like the 6’s: from the fact that once they are set up - they don’t need a smart phone … to the fact that if I do have a smart phone I can adjust and tune the earpieces on the fly. It is simply amazing.

These little devices are absolutely life changing - virtually invisible in your ear and the service and support from Eargo has been amazing. After having my new Eargo 6's for a week I went to Sunday church and for the first time in about 5 years actually clearly heard every word my pastor had to say. And no one could tell I was wearing top notch state of the art hearing devices. These are really life changing and Eargo really goes out of its way to help you succeed and get the most out of these miracle devices. The staff at Eargo before my purchase and after have been fantastic being knowledgeable - kind - professional and really wanting you to succeed in life changing new hearing. I just cannot more highly recommend any product more.

I tried the top of line main stream custom mold from the leader in hearing devices. The were not water resistant. They were horrible in wind. I couldn't modify their settings through the app it required an office visit. Their product was not targeted for someone with an active lifestyle. Customization required an office visit $$. I discovered Eargo when looking for 'throw-away' devices for an impending fishing trip and IPx7 rating pulled me in. Ordered immediately, tried them out and was still in trial period for the others so they were returned. Money was not the driving factor it was function for my life style as water is not an issue for Eargo6. They are functional for me, fit well and are easy to maintain. I reviewed as a purchaser of Eargo6 and received nothing for this review.

I switched from a traditional hearing aid to the Eargo. I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of sound clarity over the other product I was using and how much more comfortable they are. The product is easy to use and clean. The company thought of everything from ease of purchase in working directly with my insurance so I didn’t have to deal with cumbersome paperwork to changing the tip to fit my ear. The flipping and putting the Eargo in my ear is so very easy. I don’t have to stop and think how to insert as it is all natural and common sense movements and so simple. I like how they feel natural and do not have to worry about them when working out. My old behind the ear type would come loose and hang when working out and these stay in place. I also like my mask doesn’t dislodge the Eargo like my behind the ear one did. The sound quality is impeccable and I am not getting feedback like I use to. And finally, most importantly the customer service is amazing. They listen and help. Thanks Eargo! This is definitely a game changer.

I just bought a pair of hearing aids from Eargo in large part because I was so impressed with all of their personnel. In the process of deciding to invest in these new hearing aids I talked to at least 5 different people. Most of the time they called me to make sure I had the information I needed and to offer to answer any questions. There was no pressure, but they made it clear that they would take whatever time was necessary to answer all of my questions. And, I found their answers to be straight forward, based on an understanding of my hearing problems, and with a concern for making sure that Eargo was right for me. At this point, I couldn't be more pleased with what I know about Eargo.

I am extremely satisfied with my Eargo 7 hearing aids! I find them to be highly effective. It’s a relief to be able to hear people speaking without thinking that they’re mumbling, and outdoors, the sound of birds singing is delightful. I have to say that I am a bit vain. I know that I have been suffering from hearing loss for several years now, but I have been stubborn, I didn’t want to get behind-the-ear hearing aids. Whenever I see someone wearing hearing aids, my first thought is, “that person is old, that’s not for me”. The beauty of my Eargo 7 hearing aids is that they are truly invisible. I don’t feel self-conscious using them. I put them in my ears first thing in the morning and leave them in all day. They’re comfortable and most of the time I even forget that they’re in my ears. The Eargo company has provided excellent service. I have had a couple of questions regarding the best settings for different situations. Within a day, an audiologist has returned my call. The app on my phone is easy to use. I always carry my phone with me anyway, so if the need arises, I can easily change the settings. In conclusion, my Eargo 7s are a great product. They are effective, and they have improved the quality of my life. I feel that they are well worth the cost, and I highly recommend them.

I had eargo 6's i liked them but had trouble with them to deep in my ear. These eargo SE's fit my ear much better. The quality of the se aids are by far better than the quality of the 6's which was very good. Sound match that the eargo app has is one of the best ear test and it is the base for all of the programs the se's have as well as the normal program that you use most.. Did say that the cost is about 1/2 the cost of other in the ear hearing aids

These are my second attempt to get better hearing. My first in the ear hearing aids were from perhaps the largest manufacturer of all the hearing aid companies and were twice the price of the Eargo’s. I did not like them because it felt like my ears were plugged with them in. I’m so happy to say with the Eargo’s I do not have that sensation and i can hear better and so much more. I have choose to use the open pedal design ear buds and the comfort is so good I forget I have them in.

This is my second pair of Eargo hearing aids. I would recommend them to anyone who needs help with their hearing. The new Eargo 6 are a great product. If you are looking for hearing aids that go inside your ear and are almost invisible, Eargo is the only way to go. Also, the app is really easy to use. It allows you to adjust your hearing aids to meet your needs and to control other aspects. I would highly recommend them.

I had the previous model (I have the 6 now), I think the performance is fantastic for my kind of hearing loss (50 years of jet engines - guns) I can hear the system switching in a noisy environment, adjusting to the new situation. Love it. They are now water resistant so no panic if I jump in the shower or the ocean and forget to take them out. I understand why we don't have blue tooth to the phone or music (battery, antennas etc ...) but that is the only reason I gave it 4 stars, if they somehow could do that it would be amazing - such is the price of vanity, invisible hearing aids have a cost.

The hearing aids are very clear, and I hardly notice I am wearing them, they are so comfortable. The customer service is fantastic, working with me every step of the testing, adjusting, and fitting process. Although Eargo required I pay for the aids, then seek reimbursement from my insurance company, it was not a big deal. My insurance paid $2,000 within two weeks of my claim.

My Eargo 5 Hearing Aids work great!! I liked them from the start but after I got them connected with the app, I love them! I really liked the Sound Match hearing test. I like being able to mute and adjust volume, and choose different hearing environments on the app! Trisha called me and gave me some tips and she was very helpful! I didn't realize that my hearing Wes so bad until I could hear well again.

I experienced some unexpected malfunctions coincidentally in both aids at the same time. Without hesitation , the EARGO representative conducted a troubleshooting interview by phone and immediately authorized replacement aids. They arrived in two days and now after two weeks use continue to provide excellent assistance for my personal hearing loss conditions. I have used two other hearing aids over the past several years and there is no comparison to the EARGO products and, for me, no going back!! Thank you EARGO.

Had over the ear aids and the Eargos are much much better. No comparison. My old aids used batteries so the Eargos are a plus there. Another BIG plus, for me, is that my aids don't come off when I'm taking my face mask off. That was a big problem with my old aids. Almost lost them one time. As far as support goes, the Eargo company is head & shoulders above the rest. Between the very professional, well-done & very informative tutorial videos & phone call from audiologist, one couldn't ask for better customer support. I wish all companies would adopt your customer support model

These are the best hearing aids for me. I tried behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids in the past; but, they were too cumbersome and got in the way of wearing glasses and using a blue tooth headset. Eargo hearing aids fit in my ears; and, don't interfere with everyday life. The sound amplification, specifically on higher frequencies, is great. The different scenarios, phone, crowd, restaurant, and TV watching work great for me.

I work private security in a large 4 story building with 300,000 square feet with persons of all nationalities, many speaking both English and native languages. The vast majority are young females with soft voices I could not hear. Now I hear one and all clearly. At home I use TV volume at 25 instead of 60 or higher. EARGO has made me able to actively participate in both one to one and group conversations. Way to go EARGO. PS. I like the history given on the web page. It's not some backroom mad scientist coming up with a strange idea he thinks will make him rich and famous, but a solid core of study and production that is helping many achieve better hearing and comprehension. The representative who helped me, Tyler, is great at listening, restating pertinent points to make sure he has understood me completely, and answering all questions. I am very impressed with the Eargo 5 hearing aids, the Eargo staff, and the approach they take to hearing loss. The follow-up service from Eargo has been exceptional. I have been wearing hearing aids since my early 30's and I am now 66. I have always preferred the "in the canal" aids as eyeglasses, headsets, and now masks, do not get in the way. The Eargo aids are very comfortable and the tips come in different sizes. I was very surprised these "universal" tips adapted well and are comfortable. Performance is very good. Sound quality is excellent. I was surprised at how good the cellphone app is that is used to evaluate your hearing loss. There are default programs for Office, Phone, Music, and other environments. The Eargo 5 units are controlled by your cellphone app. The carrying case also will recharge the aids by itself about three times. This is great for a weekend as you do not need to haul around a charging cord. You just put the aids in the case and they are recharged from the battery in the case. I have more expensive name-brand aids but I wear the Eargo 5's exclusively. For people who have never worn hearing aids, I can only suggest you try a pair. Give it a week or so before making any decisions. Like eyeglasses, it takes a bit to become accustomed to the sounds you have been missing. If you have questions, the Eargo people have always been there for me to answer them. I certainly would buy them again.

I am really critical when it comes to reviewing, so here goes my thoughts. I am extremely vane about my looks. Maybe because I past 78 years and I didn't want some clunky ear piece. Thankfully I came across the Eargo. Nobody even knows I'm wearing them. Infact, the biggest problem I have is forgetting they are there when I get in the shower. 3 times now I have had to run and get the rice to help dry them. Still they work perfect. Here is the only downfall.. the volume and sound adjustments only allow for minor adjustments. I find that they are a bit loud. I was able to compensate by switching to the open earbuds. That has really helped. Nothing else needs to be said about a perfect hearing aid. After 2 other tries, I finally have the best for me.

I am loving the hearing aids. I forget I have them. I have a problem with the righting. I cannot get the petal back on after removing. I finally had my son in law do it, but he said it was very hard to get on. Other than that, no complaint.

All in all it's similar to what I expected. Pretty happy with them. Just a couple of things keeping me from leaving five stars. First, I wish I could stream Bluetooth. Second, I'm a little concerned about the short "end of life" of the hearing aids. It sounds like I can expect about three years, whereas more conventional aids typically last longer.
