They were good when we had to switch health insurance. We didn't care for the hospitals that were in network, but other then that they were great.
All my statements are my personal opinion, based upon my personal experiences with United Health Care. Pre-approval takes too long. They should streamline their processes to make more rapid decisions. Also, their email system is cumbersome, difficult to navigate, and out of date in my opinion. Recently, according to the pain management physician with whom I was consulting at the time, they had arbitrarily decided to no longer approve a procedure merely by labeling it "experimental", despite MANY YEARS of approving it. That action denied me and many other patients an extremely effective treatment for severe pain, and which lasted 3 to 4 times longer than another less effective procedure. They gave no explanation as declaring it "experimental" doesn't require one. At the same time, they denied paying for a pain medication, Tramadol, which isn't actually an opioid, but due to the current opioid crisis still is deemed one. The combination of their two concurrent actions left me with having to live with severe pain while awaiting an ostensibly less expensive pain management procedure without any pain medicine. Now I will need to have 3 to 4 procedures a year instead of 1, and while I await an extended decision period the company operates within, I'll have truly effective manner to ease the severe pain I experience when the less effective procedure affects wear off. I leave to any reader to decide whether they believe this company is acting in the best interests of their subscribers or not.
UHC told me that our family pediatrician is In Network. Well when i got my billing statement i couldn't believe what i was seeing. when i called the agent was telling me that the Pediatrician is In Network. I asked then why am i being billed for the entire office visit. She had to transfer me to someone else because she had no idea. Come to find out someone did NOT update there system and the Pediatrician was NOT covered. Because i did everything right and they gave me false information, i still had to pay the entire bill.

monthly fee was expensive. my employer was taking out almost $650/monthly for a family. deductible and out of pocket was expensive. physician i had for many years was not in network. this was the only insurance my company at the time provided. the copay was high, cost of prescriptions were higher than other insurances. i was happy when i didn't have to carry this insurance anymore.
I love UnitedHealthcare. We had to see a doctor in a different state and because of my great insurance with them, I was able to see the doctor and have a procedure done all in network. It was such a relief that I was covered. I also love my prescription insurance with them. Saves me a lot of money.
