AT&T Wireless is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T and was formerly known as Cingular Wireless. Headquartered just outside of Atlanta, GA, it offers cellular and data services across the U.S. It the second largest wireless communications service provider in the country after Verizon.

Basic Plan Affordability

Compared to other big-name cell phone providers, AT&T has some of the best prices for talk and text cell phone services.

AT&T offers a barebones phone plan to customers starting at just $30/line per month (when you enroll in monthly credit card or bank AutoPay). This is a great non-contract option for customers who want a basic phone plan with minimal data (1 GB). This is also a great product because customers can get unlimited text and voice at a price that undercuts both contract and non-contract competitors.

Unlimited Plans

Customers who want unlimited data also have some good options with AT&T's unlimited plans. Data plans are on the pricier side but include good network coverage and ample entertainment benefits. 

Starting at $40/line per month, you get unlimited talk minutes, text, and data at 4G LTE speeds in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, as well as 480p DVD quality video streaming (max of 1.5 Mbps) and access to 35+ live TV channels.

The carrier's top Premium plan includes even more entertainment options: a choice of one complimentary membership with HBO, Cinemax, Pandora Premium, or a number of other entertainment services. 

No-Contract Options

AT&T offers both non-contract prepaid cell phone plans and contract cell phone services and is clear as to differences between what each plan includes. 

Device Compatibility 

AT&T provides a SIM card for users with older iPhones and Android phones if you want to bring your own device. With these SIM cards, phone users can continue to use their phone for a little bit while longer if they don't have the money to purchase a new phone. Or, they can purchase any unlocked phone to use on the AT&T network. 

In addition to Windows phones and Android phones, customers can buy phones with the Amazon Fire operating system, allowing them to enjoy their eBooks and apps purchased through Amazon.

Additionally, AT&T also sells other devices that can be managed with the cellular plan, including:

AT&T has tablets available that support Windows 8, Apple iOS, Android, and the Fire OS by Amazon.

Hotspots Available

AT&T offers a number of different mobile hotspots, including the AT&T Unite Pro. This device has up to sixteen hours of power and lets you boost the battery life of your smartphone. The Unite Pro also lets clients share an Internet connection with up to fifteen devices. Several of AT&T's plans include mobile hotspot data usage, including the Unlimited3 plan which allows up to 10 GB of 4G LTE data with mobile hotspot.

AT&T reviews bring to light concerns stemming from the contract service and the overage fees.

While the pay-as-you-go plans are subject to data throttling, there is a service fee of $15 per GB that a client goes over their monthly data quota. Other customers have complained about the slowness of the network when they start using a lot of data on their monthly-unlimited plan.

Other customers take issue with AT&T's customer service, network coverage, and pricing.

Incredibly deceiving and unethical business practices. Also, incompetent and condescending manager which will be rude to mask her own inadequacies. Stay away!! I went in there to open a new cellphone line. Of course, I decided to ignore all the negative AT&T reviews online and went for it anyways. I wanted the $300/year - 16gb prepaid line. I expressed that but the initial worker that attended me(Mike) told me that in order for that plan to come in effect, I would have to select the $30/month one, which only had 5gb of internet. He said that I would have to have that one for a month and that the other plan would start the next month. I went on my way. I later find out that this is not true. I went into my account and the original plan I wanted is not even offered to that line I just opened. It said that the current plan that they signed me up for would automatically renew in 30 days, which is not at all what I was looking for. I went back in the store to hopefully get this straightened out. I was met with the most rude and condescending manager. She tells me that she was present when I was explained the process(which she wasn't) and that I signed into it. I told her that I came in for a very specific plan, which they lied to me and said would kick in next month, which isn't even an option after all. She says that they do not offer the original plan I wanted in store... I told her that they could have just told me that instead of making it seem that this was the only option. She then said: "how could we even tell you this was not an offer since it is something I didn't even knew existed until now. We only offer the plans that are in store. You came to the store right?". At this point I am highly irritated so I ask if I can get a refund and cancel the line. She says that they offer no refunds for prepaid lines(even thought I got it not even 2 hours before that interaction). The whole issue is that they lied to me. In order for me to get the original plan I wanted, I would have to open ANOTHER LINE with a DIFFERENT number, which is a huge inconvenience and not at ALL what I was looking for. They knew this but of course, her incompetency would not allow her to even process the information that was presented to her. I do not have her name but I will find it and update the review. I usually hold understanding for customer service representatives in general but when you initially meet a client with attitude and disrespect, it shows that you have no place in serving that sector.

I bought a phone for husband that is through AT&T. It’s about 5 years old. He has been very happy with the service plan, the price and customer service. We also have a store in our city that is very convenient if we need immediate assistance on his phone. You have to make an appointment, because they stay busy, but once you’re there at your approved time, someone is there to assist you and fix whatever issue you might have had. Every customer service representative is friendly and very knowledgeable in their work. We have never been there, that they were not able to just answer a quick question, or repair our phone issue. I highly recommend.!!

I’ve been a customer of ATT for over 7 years and I barely ever have any issues with my bills and phones. On the rare occasion there is an issue, the customer service representatives are always friendly, treat me with respect as well as making me feel valued by the company. The company when there is an issue will always do everything they can to fix the problem. The prices are very reasonable, the service and reception are near perfect and they are always up to date with the latest technology so they can ensure their products will function properly and have very little problems. Another bonus is the sales reps will try to sell a product as its their jobs however they aren’t pushy and actually listen to the customers needs and wants. When I’ve had a phone delivered from the main warehouse it always shows up safely, quickly and the box that the phone arrives in is always secure.

I have been a loyal AT&T customer for 19 years, but my recent experiences have been extremely disappointing. For the last four months, AT&T has been overcharging me, and despite numerous calls to customer service, the issue remains unresolved. Every time I call, I am put on hold for over two hours and transferred from one representative to another, none of whom can fix the problem. This level of service is unacceptable and has left me frustrated and disillusioned with a company I once trusted. I expected better treatment and efficient problem-solving, especially after nearly two decades of loyalty. Sadly, AT&T has let me down.

I have been an AT&T customer for several years. They tend to increase prices at their own will and will mislead you into believing that you get a free upgrade when they don't. I have the Asurian insurance with the phone and they won't cover the upgrade when the phone gets damaged (due to the phone being outdated). I went to an AT&T store when my phone did in fact give out. I was told the phone was the replacement, but in fact I was charged for that then my bill goes up and I explain to them where my budget needs to be with the cell phone plan. They seem to not care. I tolerate AT&T due to the fact I don't like changing things too often, but I'm not going to go out of my way to reccommend them.

My carrier of choice. After leaving Tmobile, this was the company that provided the best deals as well as the best coverage for me. In Puerto Rico one of the biggest opportunities is the coverage inside buildings which AT&T was able to provide for me. Recently they sold their company in Puerto Rico to a local company which has not disappointed either. The prices are a bit higher than the competition, but worth it in regards to the reliability that you find throughout the entire island. Data speeds are reliable and impressive.

I had a plan with them for a few years. The service was solid and I never encountered any issues with them. They just didn't have a plan that meets my preferences. Their deals and discounts seem to cater toward heavy data users. The people who need more and use more, save more. The people that don't care about having unlimited everything end up paying for things they do no need, want or use. I almost never make calls. I prefer to text and I rarely use data. I just want reliable service for when I do need it and 2GB of data per month (that's all the more I use.) Tello (uses T-Mobile towers) offered me 100 minutes, unlimited texting and 2GB of data for $12 a month. I can even bump that up to 5GB data for $16 a month if I wanted to. AT&T was charging me around $50 per month. I have nothing against AT&T, but now I'm saving $38 a month. I do NOT recommend AT&T if you like me and mostly text and don't need copious amounts of data. Go for Google Fi or Tello and save yourself some money!

I've been a loyal customer with ATT for over 20 years (ATT, Bellsouth, Cingular back to ATT). Its the first cell phone my parents bought me and once I was old enough to get my own phone I opened my own acct. I've used my cell service all over the world and have rarely EVER had no service. I'm talking Europe, Trinidad, Canada and even Alaska and Alligator Alley in FL (known for having no service). Never a problem.

I bought a house last year just outside town and could not get any cell reception with Verizon. ATT put up a new tower near us so we switched and have been thrilled with the service and reception. I usb tether my computer to my cell and get much faster speeds than with my actual ISP. I added a couple extra lines at 30 gb data each and have been thrilled with the service. Also got a new Samsung 20Ultra the day they came out for free for changing over.

I have used AT&T for years now. Nothing beats their cellular coverage. Calls are never dropped and their customer service is first rate. I have traded in phones many times and find that the experience is great. They handle everything and treat you right. They have extremely knowledgable staff and support. I know I feel that I've made a great purchase each time!

AT&T gave us a price when we signed up for service and have lived up to their agreement. No hidden fees of any kind. Although they do not offer our plan to new customers they have not changed our plan. Another good thing is that ATT's coverage is good locally and wherever we travel whether it be nationally or internationally. It has been easy to change our coverage to internatonal coverage when we travel.

Use to be a t-mobile customer before I made the move to at&t let's just say making the switch was the best ever with T-Mobile I had lots of dropped calls slow data & when I traveled up north barley ever had coverage. With at&t I have coverage everywhere plus fast data & me & my wife did the buy one get one on the galaxy s9+'s & we both are extremely happy & love at&t I would highly recommend at&t to every one.

I have been with them for over 6 years and if I have any trouble at all they are very helpful. No matter what it might be billing errors, or need more time to pay my bill even except parts of the payment with an agreement on next due payment date for remaining balance. They help me with the best plan for my usage on several lines. They are very kind and quick to help.

I've been a customer of AT&T for 15 years with no major complaints. I'm grandfathered in to their unlimited data plans which has been great until recently when trying to add lines to our plan. Our plan is too old so there's no monetary incentive to add anyone to our account - they claim that these old plans are 'shaped' differently so no new service fits into that model. AT&T has better coverage on the drive from Utah to eastern Washington state - one I make often - than any other carrier's coverage so it was a no brainer to stay with them over the years. I do find it annoying that their billing details and weird fees aren't easily understood.

I have been with AT&T cellular for 27 years without interruption. Of course, it was "Southwestern Bell Cellular" back then. I travel all over the United States to cities large and small. I'm a storm chaser who uses AT&T cellular to stream live video from Texas to South Dakota, California to North Carolina. In my chase truck I use cellular cards from BOTH AT&T and Verizon because those two have excellent coverage. But my phone I carry every day is AT&T. Top tier coverage and less expensive than Verizon. Sprint was always pathetic outside major metro areas, and T-Mobile while better than Sprint by a large margin is still behind AT&T and Verizon by a large margin no matter what their maps say. That is my real world experience. My daughter is on T-Mobile.

Through all my years of having a cell phone I’ve never had an issue with AT&T… I currently have a Rison only because I am under my sisters plan but prior to that I wasn’t AT&T customer for many years and I never had any issues and my family continues to use AT&T and I never hear any issues from them… I believe the AT&T and Verizon do you have the best service and it doesn’t seem to matter where you go you will always have service it doesn’t go out in any specific black out area which is very comforting to know especially if your car is going to break down or you’re scared it’s good to know that you can rely on AT&T

I have been with AT&T for over 10 years. I started with their Uverse package and rolled over into using only only their internet and streaming app, AT Tv. Due to taxes on cable in Texas, my bill changed way too much. Nothing to do with AT&T. Overall, my experience has been a good one. Their customer service has improved over the years, they are happy to fix anything that’s wrong with the internet service, my bill stays the same. If I’m unsatisfied with something they certainly do their best to make amends, usually by offering a discount on part of the bill. Service rarely experiences any interruptions in my area, and out entire house is typically streaming at one time. Overall, good experience for me.

Been with this company for over 10 years. I couldn't be happier with the service I've been provided. They've always gone above and beyond to help me and keep me happy. No plans to be with any other carrier. Great financing program too for the costly smart phones. I recommend att to anyone who is looking to set up a plan for phone service. The app makes managing my account quick and fast, also has a great chat program for instant customer service. I do dislike the costly fee for when they add 1 gig of data when you go over your monthly limit, I had my overage option turned off to avoid the $15 fee.

In November, 2023, I INQUIRED about receiving an old landline number for my business. I was signed up for an account without my permission and given a phone and phone number I did not know I was signing up for. It was supposed to be an INQUIRY, by which AT&T was supposed to call back because they had guaranteed I would receive a specific number. That did not happen. I received a burner phone that I promptly returned to the store on February 29th, 2024. The number was incorrect, and the store and store manager said they would take the phone and return it. I was assured that the account was closed, and that I would not have to concern myself with it anymore. I received a confirmation of the return order and an email from her apologizing that the account was opened. She explained that it was common practice for the Sales Representatives at AT&T to open up accounts even if they knew the correct service couldn't be provided because it boosted sales. She said there was absolutely no way that I could receive that business number with AT&T and that the initial sales representative had lied to me, in spite of the fact that I was given 4 different request numbers for that specific phone number. She said that it was not possible to create a request like that and that all four "request numbers" were fake. AT&T's own store manager acknowledged that! A few months later, I started receiving bills saying that I owe AT&T money for this account that was only in inquiry. Now, I'm being charged for services that don't even exist! When I called and spent EIGHT straight hours on the phone SEVEN, which were on hold, I was told that there was no way to close or cancel the account. I was transferred over 10 different times because there was no process. Several requests for escalation were refused. Even after physically walking into the store, requests to speak with a regional manager AND the vice president were denied because I couldn't "prove" my identity, even though I had my driver's license and passport in my hand. It is clear that AT&T has a DELIBRATE, INTENTIONAL system that is set up to take customer's money without providing service. Each department can't do anything about anything, including signing you up for a phone! Such a system ensures that AT&T will never need to take responsibility for their terrible, irresponsible, and unethical business practices. AT&T lacks the desire to correctly "fix" this or any other issue. AT&T does not need any more "proof" that I do not have a physical phone that has no service. They can see that there is no phone and no service. If AT&T wishes to "investigate" something fraudulent it can start investigating itself. Naturally its system ensures that it won't find anything. So, in addition, they can set up business practices that actually work, where employees can actually do something about a problem. What's more, they can give their call centers the correct phone numbers to transfer a customer to another department. Hopefully someday they will be held accountable for their business practices, but until then, stay away. And, in the meantime, readers, consider reporting your issues to the attorney general instead of just writing your reviews- it's the only way you will be able to get your issue resolved. AT&T lacks the desire to correctly "fix" this or any other issue. AT&T does not need any more "proof" that I do not have a physical phone that has no service. I purchased a phone at the local AT&T store. Upon purchasing the phone, the customer agent told me that I would receive an email from AT&T that would assist me in setting up my account. I went to the aforementioned email and went to the link provided. The site had a link for “New User.” However, it would not let me set up an account, as it would not let me set up a password, even though I followed the instructions to a tee. The above is Example of Failing to provide correct instructions for setting up a password for an account to service a product I had purchased Next, I tried another method on the site that didn’t work. The above is Example Number 2: No clear direction as to how to set up an account that actually works. I finally found a customer service number (after much searching) and called it. Somehow I was able to set up a PIN, which was aggravated by the fact that the phone-robot voice kept missing my numerical input, though, again, I was exceedingly accurate. The voice said that it didn’t receive any input from me even though I entered it. It took several tries. The above is Example 3 - Shoddy phone equipment and Example 4 - Using a phone robot that you have to dumb yourself down to their level in order to get something done instead of being able to talk to an actual human being. Somehow I was able to get through to a Customer Service agent. I told them my problem, that A) I was trying to set up a password and the system would not let me, and B) that I wanted to purchase more minutes. The individual said that my phone was serviced by a third-party and that I would have to call them. He gave me the phone number. This, after being notified that I was supposed to call a certain number, which ended up being wrong. The above is Example 5 - Not giving me the correct instructions to begin with, instructions that were misleading, Example 6 - Selling me a phone that is not even serviced by AT&T, and Example 7 - A Major Corporation using a third party vendor. No. I was doing business with AT&T, not some other perception. I should never have to go to some other company, one that I do not do business with. I then called this other number. They wanted my PIN, so I entered it. The (robot) voice said it did not recognize my phone. The above is Example 8 - Not being able to detect my phone even though I had gone through all of the correct steps. Let’s recap. AT&T did the following: • Failed to provide accurate instructions on how to set up an account • Mislead me into thinking I was supposed to contact one customer service perception when in fact it was supposed to be another, which, again, I was never told about from the start, • Does business with a third-party vendor that the customer is just expected to interact with. That is inexplicable, when you are one the largest corporations in the world. Furthermore, this overly complicates things. And, I was never told about this ahead of time. • Shoveled me off to this third party vendor even though the original instructions said to call the original customer service number • Has shoddy equipment that does nothing but waste the customer’s time. • Uses robot phone menus and phone robots, instead of having live actual human beings to deal with. This is counter-productive, it is a case of going backwards. • Has an online interface that is confusing, misleading, and just plain DOES NOT WORK. Finally, I took the phone back for a refund. The customer service agent did not even ask why I was returning the phone. Out of the over $126 I originally paid for the phone and minutes, I ended up with a “refund” of $23.96. This means I went through the process of purchasing a phone, then going through several erroneous processes, was not able to find the correct help, all for a phone I was unable to use because I could not add minutes to because of the above incidents which display the company’s misleading practices. On top of that I was never told about the fees one incurs upon making a return. All told I lost over $100. And for what? I think any reasonable person would agree that this constitutes a scam on the part of AT&T---i.e., fooling consumers into purchasing a product which intentionally does not work, so they can end up pocketing the “return fees”, or, if the customer does not make the return, the company keeps the entire amount. This is wrong. I have therefore reported AT&T to the FTC for fraudulent business practices. Furthermore, I will never do business with them again and will never recommend them to anyone.

This company is a SCAM. I have something on my credit report already because AT&T sent me 2 different numbers. I only picked one of the SIM cards, and I was using that number for years. Then I started getting mail from a collection company saying that I had $250 worth of debt to AT&T. They never contacted me, and they sold my information, even though I never used that other SIM card or number in my life. Now I changed to VERIZON on February 26 after paying my bill for the last month to AT&T, and these people sent me a regular bill of $67.45 for March. I called them and let them know the same day I switched to Verizon. I needed to call again and ask for a refund that I never got because they took my money. I needed to dispute the charge with my bank. And again today they sent me a bill that I supposedly need to pay on April 16 for the same amount. Meanwhile, I have been with Verizon for 2 months already. Your customer service people are trash. This company is at most mediocre and a scam. And I will call again to cuss them out because I don’t understand how I can continue to be charged for 2 months straight after switching and not even using the same number that I had with AT&T. Now if I let that email be, and I don’t call them to see what’s going on, this company will put a debt on me and sell it to a collector and try to mess up my credit. At this point, I will contact a lawyer and file a lawsuit against this company.

AT&T gave false information about the account and PIN we needed to transfer service from AT&T to T-Mobile several times. This wasted a week, and multiple hours were spent EVERY time we tried to port the phone number over to the new phone with T-Mobile. T-Mobile was great! AT&T lied, stalled, required five people on a conference call (including my husband and me) to transfer the phone number to the new phone. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A 5-10 MINUTE PROCESS! Upon complaint to the AT&T Leadership Team, all I got was a phone call from the office of the president. During that phone call, Kevin advised that I can't expect everything to be accurate on AT&T's end when we're asking for information. Additionally, AT&T offered no financial payment for our hours spent on the issue due to AT&T's mistakes and false information because it wasn't our account, but a work account through my husband's company. Never mind that it still should have taken 5-10 minutes. The fact is, if you are transferring any number to your family plan carrier, you MUST be on the phone with these people. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH AT&T GAMES. My husband, his company's IT person (the AT&T account owner) and I wasted over $1,000 worth of work time BECAUSE OF AT&T. They won't take accountability and won't pay us back for lost productivity.

I am currently with ATT. They have reasonable prices and descent service, I am staying with them because the other service I had was too expensive. They offer amazing deals for phone trade ins. Their customer service reps are pretty nice as well.

I have all things AT&T. However, I rate them two stars because I’m having an issue with my genie box that’s been going on for several years and they can’t seem to resolve it. Also, I traded in my old iPhone for a brand new iPhone 13 Pro. I was told it was a free trade-in. Therefore, the new phone did not cost me anything. So I gave them my old phone and they gave me a new phone. All good. However, when I received my AT&T bill, I noticed that they started to deduct the amount of the new phone off of my bill every single month, so therefore the phone wasn’t quite a free trade-in. So you’re locked in and cannot get another phone until that phone is completely paid off and although they’re not charging me, they credit me the amount that credit has to be satisfied which takes several years therefore, I’m stuck with the same phone as well as their service without ever signing a contract.

Used AT&T for a year then I switched cell companies. This was back in 2010 to 2011. I don't know if their service has improved or not. Back then I had some issues with dropped calls and the phone did not have good quality speaker. I am sure they have improved. I suggest you make a choice based on current users reviews.

I have been with this company now for nearly ten years. They have exceptional customer support and their app is easy to use to manage your account. When my husband died they removed his line and didn’t charge me anything extra or for the phone itself. I have to say they made what I was going through at the time a little easier. Love them.

I've been with AT&T for the past 12 years. never had any upcharges for anything. I have 6 lines on my plan. I like it because the more lines you have the cheaper it is for every line. I have the top unlimited plan, which includes everything unlimited. You also get hotspot for your phone. In the plan they give you free access to HBO Max. They always have good promotion's when getting a new phone or upgrading.

I had AT&T for many many years and loved it. It's not easy to get through to customer service but that seems to be the norm these days for all companies. I wish I could go back to AT&T. The coverage is much better than my current carrier.

I ended up switching to ATT wireless because my company has discount. We get unlimited data at a fantastic price. Never had any issues and coverage is great. It was also awesome to learn on our honeymoon that we get free service in Mexico and Canada as well when traveling!

AS an older senior it was wonderful to have a knowledgable young man named Gregorios P assist me setting up my new 4G flip phone. He was patient and answered all my questions while demonstrating how to enter Contacts, etc. He made it easy to be an AT&T customer and to stay one!

I currently have AT&T as my wireless provider and I'm really not very happy with them and I'm considering changing. First of all, they have NO CLUE how to process auto pay. Auto pay shouldn't be tricky at all!!!! It should automatically take money out of the debit card that is on the account at the time the payment is due. That should be simple. But apparently it's not. After I switched to AT&T and set up autopay, I received a text message and an email saying that my autopay was processed. They took the money out of my account and then they put it back in my account a few days later, claiming that I was late on my payment. It's very annoying when they offer a discount to customers who use autopay, but they have no idea how to process autopay properly. Since I don't trust them with autopay, I'm manually making my payments, so I don't get any discounts at all. But I can't trust them to process my autopayments at all!!!!! You'd think that a huge company like AT&T could handle figuring out how to process autopayments, but sadly they can't. My best friend has cell phone service with AT&T and they allow her to upgrade her cell phone when she's paid for half of what is due on her current cell phone. AT&T refuses to let me upgrade until I've paid off my cell phone in full. They don't treat all customers fairly or the same.

I've been with AT&T since the iPhone came out. Service has improved significantly over the years. I've always received great customer care. Last time I got the best care of reducing my bill based on my usage and discounts. Awesome. My son uses AT&T and I recommend to my friends and family. Wish for more towers. I do get spotty service in places.

We switched to AT&T to find better cell phone coverage and we have not been disappointed. We have experienced few dropped calls and with a discount from work, the service is affordable. We have had difficulty working with some of the sales people in the stores, they are not so friendly or service oriented. They act as if they have plenty of customers, who cares if they upset one or two.

We have been with At&t since the 90's. I have often compared prices with service over the years and would not switch. We have excellent service everywhere we go, we have great customer service, and the monthly rate for all the extras we receive is definitely within reason.

Price could always be better. Called to tell them we wanted to leave because of price and they basically price matched us the amount Tmobile gives you for unlimited data which we didn't have. Now we have unlimited data at the same price we were paying when we only had 15 gigs.
