Sunworks is a long-time provider and installer of high performing solar systems all throughout the United States. Since its founding in 2002, Sunworks has established a reputation of professionalism and revolutionary growth in the solar industry. The Sunworks team is composed of highly experienced solar veterans that know the ins and outs of the entire industry and the installation process itself.

In 2021, Sunworks acquired Solcius, a residential solar provider. This acquisition expanded the Sunworks service area and created an opportunity for others to become dealership partners to team up with the Sunworks product. This acquisition was one of the largest in the solar industry last year and has proven beneficial for the company and prospective solar clients alike.

Sunworks is an active member of the Solar Energy industries Association (SEIA) and is certified with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). The company continues to work as a force and advocate for solar technology and power advancement.

The Good

  • Project Types
  • Financing Options
  • Free Solar Power Quote
  • Available Warranties
  • Broad Service Area

Project Types

One of the most unique aspects of the Sunworks product is the fact that the company provides solar solutions for a number of project types. Most solar installation companies only service residential and commercial clients. Sunworks takes it to a whole new level offering solar solutions for the following client and project types:

  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Agricultural
  • Industrial
  • Public works
  • Operations and maintenance
  • Home builder solutions

By offering project solutions for a number of different client types, Sunworks is able to service more clients and allow more industries to harness the power of solar.

Financing Options

Solar is expensive and Sunworks recognizes that not everyone can pay for solar upfront and outright. To combat the financing issue, the company offer the following payment options:

Loan

  • Most popular financing plan
  • Low monthly payment
  • Includes product warranty as well as workmanship warranty
  • Clients can use tax credits and government incentives

Purchase

  • The best value form of financing
  • No monthly payment
  • Product and workmanship warranty still apply
  • Clients still qualify for tax credits and government incentives

PPA

  • Clients pay a low monthly payment
  • Product and workmanship warranty apply

Available Warranties

Since solar is a financial investment, warranties have become standard within the solar industry. Typically, a solar installation provider will offer a workmanship or installation warranty protecting clients from any issues stemming from installation. Then, solar installation companies rely on manufacturers to provide equipment warranties.

Sunworks' solar panels carry a manufacturer’s warranty (terms may vary according to brand) and its inverters carry a 10-year warranty.

Broad Service Area

The solar installation industry, by nature, is relatively geographically restricted. A vast majority of solar installation companies only service one state or a select few cities within a state. With service areas being so small, prospective clients are forced to look into local providers.

Sunworks has found a way to combat this issue and services a large area including these 15 states:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Wisconsin
  • Utah

With the acquisition of Solcius and by incorporating a dealership program, Sunworks has been able to expand and service more solar clients than the typical solar installation company.

The Bad

  • Undisclosed Equipment Information
  • Battery/Storage Solutions
  • Limited Sunworks Reviews

Undisclosed Equipment Information

Equipment plays a big part in the purchasing decision for many prospective solar customers. Most solar installation companies will make equipment information public as clients prefer to know exactly what manufactured product is being installed on their property. Despite claiming to have high level relationships with solar manufacturers, Sunworks has not disclosed what specific partners the company has.

Battery/Storage Solutions

The installation of batteries and solar storage solutions have become increasingly popular in recent years. With inclement weather causing power disruptions or other causes, people are turning to storage solutions to maintain power during these outages. It is also an excellent way to utilize unused generated power.

Many solar companies are beginning to partner with storage solution providers to install these types of solutions; however, it is unclear whether or not Sunworks offers these types of products or services to clients.

Limited Sunworks Reviews

As of November 2023, fewer than 10 Sunworks reviews have been posted to Best Company, and these reviews are mixed, but generally positive. Customers have praised the company's professionalism and knowledge. Notably, a representative referred to as Wright received commendations for providing patient and responsive support throughout the entire installation process. Positive feedback extends to aspects such as a comprehensive 25-year warranty, efficient panels, competitive pricing, and excellent service in addressing issues like roof leaks and declining production.

However, it's important to note some negative experiences reported by customers. Instances of breached contracts, disputes over panel specifications, and issues with installation timelines and equipment performance have been highlighted. Concerns were raised about attempts to force changes to agreed-upon installations, leading to disputes and, in one case, the placement of a lien on a customer's property. Another customer expressed dissatisfaction with delays in installation, undersized inverters, and perceived discrepancies in meeting the terms of their agreement.

Readers should note that  these Sunworks reviews represent an incredibly small sample size of overall customer sentiment; many of these reports, both good and bad, are isolated incidents.

The Bottom Line

Sunworks is a solar provider and installer that handles nearly every solar project imaginable. Residential, commercial, agricultural, industrial, public works, operations and management, and home-building solar projects can all be handled by the Sunworks team.

While there are a number of reasons a solar client may want to enlist the help of Sunworks for solar installation, there are limitations customers should be aware of as well. Despite claiming to have professional relationships with solar manufacturers, there is no information about what brands or equipment information used in installation projects. It is also unclear whether or not Sunworks offers battery or storage solutions to clients.

Taking into consideration all contributing factors, most solar clients would likely be satisfied with what Sunworks has to offer. The Sunworks platform is particularly designed for solar projects outside of the regular residential and commercial project scopes.
