Zenergy is a Minnesota-based company that provides solar installation services in the Great Lakes region. Since 2012, Zenergy has provided clients with quality solar installation, electrical contracting, and underground utility services.
Zenergy is a member of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry and the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society. The company has also worked with MnSEIA, an organization that advocates for solar and storage.
The Zenergy staff has over 45 years of combined experience and are well versed in heat, light, and power providing the latest technologies to upgrade customers' homes. Additionally, Zenergy is a certified Kohler Power Generator dealer and has partnered with West Central Telephone to provide automation solutions.
Most solar companies are locally owned and operated companies. For many solar installation companies, servicing one state or just a few highly populated areas within a state is as far as a company is willing to travel to offer installation services. A select few companies spread their services to a wider geographical area, helping more clients obtain access to renewable energy. Zenergy is one of those companies.
While a vast majority of its projects have occurred within the state of Minnesota, the Zenergy team has also helped residential and commercial clients in North Dakota and Wisconsin — servicing the Greater Lakes region of the United States.
The NABCEP certification is widely considered to be the “gold standard” of the solar industry. Some companies will not even hire an installer if they are not NABCEP certified. The certification is recognized by organizations on a global scale and judges the competence of an installer’s ability to perform.
Specifically, certification encompasses PV design, installation, operations, commissioning, and maintenance. Not every solar installation company has a NABCEP-certified installer on staff, but Zenergy requires it of team members. Obtaining and maintaining this certification requires individuals to verify their skills and competencies to practice within the renewable energy industry.
Zenergy prides itself on being more than just an installation company. In addition to providing solar installation services, Zenergy also offers electrical contracting and underground utility work. On top of its offered services, Zenergy is also an authorized dealer and installer of Kohler generators.
Zeneregy provides these services to both residential and commercial clients. Most solar installation companies stick to just solar installation, but Zenergy has the ability to offer a wide range of contracting work.
Most solar companies develop and maintain relationships with solar manufacturers. Whether the solar installation company becomes an authorized dealer or a preferred partner, this relationship is crucial for the consumer. While Zenergy is a partner in the traditional generator space, it does not appear to have any such relationship in the solar industry.
Solar panels, inverters, and batteries are expensive. The installation work done to make sure a system operates properly is also expensive. To protect customers after making an investment in a solar system, solar installation companies typically offer a warranty.
For example, most solar installation companies provide customers with an equipment warranty and a workmanship warranty. On average, the equipment warranty spans the lifetime of the system (25 years) and the workmanship warranty protects against any issues with installation. The workmanship warranty typically lasts 10 years. Zenergy makes no mention of the warranties the company offers. This should be a cause for concern for prospective clients.
Solar systems are an expensive investment. On average, homeowners are looking at anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000 to have a PV solar system installed on their property. While some people can make this sort of investment and own the system outright from the get go, not everyone can.
For varying financial circumstances, most solar installation companies offer multiple financing options, whether those come in the form of a traditional loan, a lease, or a power purchase agreement. That being said, Zenergy does not appear to offer these types of financing options to solar customers.
