The Good

  • Several Financing Options
  • Helpful Remote Solar Design Tool
  • Customized Solar Solutions
  • Lengthy Warranties
  • Informative Mobile App
  • Highly Rated Customer Service

Several Financing Options

Sungevity offers several solar financing options, which means that taking advantage of renewable energy and obtaining a home solar system through Sungevity is possible for customers of all budgets.

With Sungevity's solar lease, solar loan, and PPA payment options, solar homeowners can begin saving on their electricity bill for zero to little down. Each of these options comes with 24/7 system monitoring, a 20-year manufacturer warranty on the panels, and a 20-year system warranty that encompasses the solar inverter and workmanship.

For customers who are looking for the solar power plan with the most long-term savings, buying the system outright is probably the best option. Customers cover the cost of the system and solar panel installation upfront, but then they own the system and reap the long-term rewards.

Helpful Remote Solar Design Tool

Sungevity's proprietary Remote Solar Design tool allows customers to get a personalized quote quickly without having to crawl around on the roof.

After answering a few questions over the phone with a Sungevity rep, the Remote Solar Design tool can view the roof of the customer's home, track the amount of sunlight that hits their house, and give them an accurate picture of how their solar panels will look and function.

Remote Solar Design can also show customers how much they are going to save with each payment option the solar company offers.

Customized Solar Solutions

As a solar panel installer, Sungevity doesn't believe in cookie-cutter solar solutions. As a result, the company's professional advisors custom design every solar power system to meet the needs and budget of the customer.

Sungevity uses sleek black-on-black solar panels and low-impact mounting hardware, and each of its solar energy systems is designed to accommodate multiple storage options and other functionalities, such as EV chargers, so customers can add those features now or in the future.
Lengthy Warranties

Sungevity offers a number of different warranties to ensure that its customers and their solar energy systems are taken care of.

The solar company provides a 20-year equipment warranty, which covers the panels, inverter, and other equipment; a 25-year performance warranty, which guarantees a certain level of energy output; and a 20-year workmanship warranty, which covers the labor and installation.

Informative Mobile App

With the Sungevity mobile app, customers have information about their solar system at their fingertips. Whether customers have an Android or an iOS device, the Sungevity app allows them to track how much energy their solar panels are producing and how much power they are using from anywhere in the world.

In addition to giving customers the ability to monitor their solar systems, the Sungevity app lets users contact customer service and earn rewards by referring friends and family through the app.

Highly Rated Customer Service

The Sungevity reviews on our site, which have been submitted by real customers, shed some light on the company's business practices and praise the solar provider for its customer service. Consumers are saying that Sungevity's customer service team is professional, helpful, and quick to reply to questions and requests.

Sungevity also offers helpful options for clients who need to move before the contract terms have expired, including assigning the energy plan to the new homeowner; prepaying the remaining payments and assigning the non-financial obligations to the new homeowner; and purchasing the remaining time on the lease, terminating the lease, and asking the company to remove the system.

Considering switching to clean energy with Sungevity?

The Bad

  • Embattled History
  • Lack of Site Information
  • Limited Availability

Embattled History

By summer of 2016, Sungevity had become the fifth-largest residential solar installer in the U.S., but the company's history since that point has proven chaotic. Sungevity experienced widespread layoffs along with a chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2017 before selling its America-based assets to private equity firm Northern Pacific Group. The company later rebranded as Solar Spectrum, and in concert with residential installer Horizon Solar Power, effectively relaunched as Sungevity.

Following multiple acquisitions, the company returned to acclaim as the seventh-largest residential solar installer in 2018; however, subsequent reporting revealed that both of Sungevity's subsidiaries (Solar Spectrum and Horizon Solar Power) subcontracted all installation work, while Sungevity itself was operating on an expired solar installer license.

By late 2020, Sungevity experienced its final round of layoffs, leaving several rooftop contractors without work or recompense, as well as many more customers with incomplete solar panel systems on their roofs. By December of 2020, many of Sungevity's US assets were bought at auction by Pineapple Energy, a residential solar provider also owned by Northern Pacific Group.

Lack of Site Information

Sungevity has a lack of solar system information available on its website. While a basic explanation of each system component is provided, more technical specifications of the system are nowhere to be found.

Sungevity's FAQ section is sparse and does little to fully educate consumers on the value the company has to offer, and its website lacks a live chat option, which could provide quick and easy access to important company information.

Limited Availability

Sungevity is currently only available in California, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Colorado. This limits the number of customers who have the opportunity to receive a solar installation from Sungevity.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Sungevity, which is one of the top installers in the solar industry, is a highly recommended option for consumers who are considering a rooftop solar system to look into. If you live in one the states it covers, Sungevity's multiple financing options, proprietary Remote Solar Design tool, insightful Sungevity app, and top-notch customer service are hard to beat.

Are you still in business? Our panels (leased through you) are now needing warranty replacement after 10 years. Spruce has been non responsive for almost a year. Apparently the performance guarantee stayed with Sungevity when the assets were sold off. So.. if you own my performance guarantee how can you help getting this resolved? Sungevity was a great company. Now I regret ever going solar

I rate them this way particularly due to my project manager Zac O was extremely difficult to reach. I found that he dodged phone calls, I would call from my number and he wouldn't answer, then I would call from a different line and he would answer. I would send an email and they weren't returned in a timely manner. I was told my system would have production and consumption monitoring in the mobile monitoring app, but it only has production listed. I was told that the monitoring app would also have the capability of monitoring all 60 cells on each of the panels allowing me to see whether there was a cell on a panel that was not producing. Then when the system was installed and when I was using the app the panel access and consumption metrics are not shown in the app. When I asked contacted Zac about it he said that only they have access to the panels in the application. Which is not what I was told by my sales rep Scott (who was excellent and personable - but in hindsight now I don't know if he was merely lying to me about the mobile monitoring just to make the sale; if so then that's really ashamed). It's been almost 2 months since I've heard from their customer service rep Rosanna that said that their Senior Solutions Manager would be getting in contact with me to discuss my concerns, I've followed up with her via email and I've called Zac and left him a message (again), but I still haven't heard from either of them. The installation went well, the approvals were taken care of by the company (my complaint on this part of the process was due to poor management of the project and getting the approval to turn the system on in a timely manner). After it was installed my system sat for a month on my roof, so we had to pay an extra month of power bill to the utility company. I encourage the Sungevity leadership to reach out to me directly.

You can't get any customer support, you call in and get an answering machine. They destroyed a brand-new roof, you can't trust them. I suggest to everybody to stop here, don't get it because they do not stand to their word. They say they're going to come out and they don't, they say they're going to fix something and they don't. They told me it was going to be done before Thanksgiving and it wasn't done until almost March.

Solar Spectrum told me the system would cover more than it actually does. The installation process was good, but they were installing something too small for my house. The project engineer assured me it was okay, but it's not. I'm upset because I want a unit that can supply all the power I need, but I have a unit that only supplies half the power I need. They did a poor job representing themselves.

I was very disappointed in installation. While they were doing the installation, they damaged my air conditioner. I asked them to pay for it, but they refused, basically denying that their people damaged it even though it broke two days after installation. I complained to their management, but I didn't get a positive response. I don't trust this company, and wouldn't recommend their customer service. They're not a good company to work with and always have delayed responses on emails and requests.

Horizon Solar has no customer service whatsoever. It is horrible, and if I had known it was going to be like this I would have never signed up, but now I'm stuck in a contract. I would never recommend this company to anyone as it was a horrific experience from the second promises were made. Like I said before, I'm stuck in a contract so I would never put anybody of what I went through as a friend.

Things started out well, but then my project manager left/got fired and they have stopped returning my calls. I fully paid them in good faith and they have rewarded it with terrible customer service and a failure to deliver. I now have $21,000 of solar panels on my roof that are inactive because they have failed to start the interconnection application. Additionally, they began construction before my utility approved the build, which could have backfired in a very expensive and unfortunate way. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

The system was supposed to be running for a week or week and a half and it's only been running for one day and I haven't received help with that. Installation was really fast, but it has only worked one day. Waiting one week to make an appointment to come to my house is not acceptable. Need better customer service.

Eli, the Project Manager was TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL, never let you knew when the crews were coming, and what was happening in the following steps. When you talked to him on the phone, Very Rude. Also threatening to cut off the power, when I told him there were issues with the installation, and needed to be fixed.

It was frustrating when the installers never came when they were supposed to. I had to call them several times, and they did damage to my roof during the installation process. It's always difficult to get a hold of anybody, and the response and timing is terrible.

I was told several different actions and none came through. 1. I originally signed up to save money and for the rebate. I got the run around and as of today (3 years later, no refund). I tried calling the gentleman who signed me up, I called Sungevity and lines were no longer in service. All my emails that were sent and that they responded to and promised my refund was on the next check run were now bouncing back as the email addresses could no longer be found. 2. I was told that the project would take about 6 months to get up and running. Took over a year and half. The company told me that they needed to break my concrete to do some work and it was not covered, etc. They tried to make me use my rebate for it and I said no. It took another 6 months for them to come back and fix the tore up concrete. They were a fraud and the installation was horrible process. I have filed a BBB report and several others. NOT A GOOD COMPANY.

This company is a scam they are only interested in getting you on a loan which they first tell you it’s transferable and later when you need to sell your house they say we can’t transfer the loan ... also they required me to an energy audit for my home for their own benefit and failed to reimburse me for over a year now ... the energy audit was required in order for them to get a state rebate. Edit : the issue above was finely resolved because of the new Company that acquired them seem to be very respectful and great to work with and for that alone I am changing my review pineapple energy

Out of business- Nov 24 2020, I signed with Sungevity Mar'20, took until Sept'20 to get installed. Along the way personnel quit and replaced a few times. Very unresponsive but the Invoices were on time! CED Greentech seems to be in bed with the fraud/scam. They sent a Lien to me before the bill was due. Midway through the process I read reviews like this warning people that Sungevity / Solar Spectrum / Horizon Solar did this before: defaulted on installation, materials and service contracts and shortly thereafter reopened under one of the other names. I was stuck, 1/2 way engaged. Anyway- the warnings proved to accurate and factual. These are dishonest people. I have no rating for this company. This company sends a great person to tell and teach you every aspect and detail about solar and their company. We purchased and installers damaged my roof. They sent a repair guy he did repairs But, my roof still leaks and i have mold and will have to repaint and replace the ceiling wood, closet walls, pole, carpet and not sure what else. Phone call after phone call To no avail no one calls us back. Very much disappointed they get you to buy and no one wants to help after that, almost makes me regret purchasing. When we signed up, we thought we were dealing with a stable company. That is not the case. I won't go into their Chapter 11 reorganization. I will tell my story. I have solar panels on my roof. I have NO solar power. The job was never finished. I attempted to reach the 2 members of Sungevity's company that i had been dealing with to get as far as I did but could not reach either. Now i find out that Sungevity laid off 330 or so employees which, i believe, includes my 2 contacts. I have received nothing from Sungevity at all since they put up the panels but could not finish because of some backup battery parts missing. They never came back and I assumed that was because of the Coronavirus. So, i gave them time. Well, that time i gave has long gone away. I still have no solar. Now the bad part. I signed an agreement with one of Sungevity's suppliers (thinking it was ok because Sungevity was so highly touted at the time (9.7 but now 7.7)) The agreement stated that i would pay the supplier if Sungevity did not. Sungevity did not pay the supplier and yesterday (many months into this project) i received lien papers from the supplier saying they were going to force the sale of my home to pay the $13,923.00 owed them by Sungevity. They could have sent me a bill (an explanation of what i was paying for would be nice) but went right for my jugular. That was not even needed as I would have paid the bill once I understood a couple of things that they could have explained to me. Why the heavy hand? Not sure what my next move has to be. I just know that Sungevity is not to be trusted. IF they can correct this problem to my satisfaction, i will change my tune! Until then, the one star rating I gave them here is more than they deserve!!!

We signed the contract to purchase last October 2019 and were told the work would be started in December. One of the inducements to purchase when we did was the 30% tax credit. They didn’t even apply for the permit until January, put on the panels in February (we lost over $1800 in tax credits) and here it is April and after 3 inspections it cannot pass the permit process. The lender paid them in February in full for the job so we are now paying the lender and PGE with no resolution in sight. To add insult to injury, they never paid the company the supplied the panels so despite us being out $47,000 with no working system, the supplier just put a $15,000 mechanics lien on our home. We contacted their customer service on numerous occasions and they fail to respond. RUN DON’T WALK AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AND BELIEVE NOTHING THEY TELL YOU!!

We contacted Sungevity in June 2019. Sungevity gave us a prompt quote over the phone. Without comparison, we could not judge the value. The representative pressured us in accepting the quote on the spot due to supposed Sungevity investor requirements and other intimidating sales tactics. After doing some research at Energy Sage, we uncovered the quote seemed over 25% above market. We renegotiated the contract at a 10% discount relative to the original price, but still much above market. We figured we were still going for quality as Sungevity was named the best company in its field by this website. The representative confirmed they could complete an installation of solar panels and battery within 6 weeks. It actually took more than 7 months. The "substantially complete" installation was done in the last week of December 2019. And, as of this writing the system is not yet certified and ready to go by PG&E. The project took such a long time that after several months both the supplier and installer of solar panels sent us "California Preliminary Notice" of filing a lien against our house because they had not gotten paid by Solar Spectrum, one of the operating companies acquired by Sungevity. Also, Sungevity and Solar Spectrum hounded us for weeks to make a second and final payment on an installation that was far from "substantially complete." Some of their collection systems were automated whereby they sent us automatically every other day an electronic document to sign confirming the installation was complete when it was not and demanding a 2nd payment on the spot. Staff turnover is a problem. Over this time period, we dealt with 3 different project managers and two different finance managers. Another issue is the decentralized business model of Sungevity. The latter is really an umbrella holding company. It controls numerous different operating companies. In turn, these subsidiaries often entirely outsource the entire installation of the panels to other companies. And, the delivery of service of the different operating subsidiaries and especially the outsourced installation panel subcontractors can vary greatly. In our case, the installer was American Home Energy (AHE). They turned out to be incompetent. They often brought the wrong part for the job. They had to come numerous times to do a job that should have been completed in one single visit. One of AHE staffers even told my spouse with a smirk on his face "you should have bought a generator instead." They were plagued by staff turnover and shortage causing our project to be on hold for weeks if not months. Sungevity developed a fairly revolutionary process including software, design, phone protocol and system whereby they could sell on the spot very expensive solar installation without spending any upfront marketing dollars on consulting visits and achieving a very high sales closing rate (that's where the intimidating sales tactics paid off). They also could leverage this low cost efficient software based system over numerous solar company acquisitions. This seems brilliant at first. But, there is a downside. They have completely lost control on the actual quality of the products and services they deliver. They actually have a very tough time of monitoring and tracking their own project. In our case, my spouse turned into the de facto project manager as they often had no idea where things stood, where were the subcontractors, etc. If an executive of Sungevity, Solar Spectrum, or American Home Energy reads this review, it actually provides valuable actionable information. All three companies have issues regarding quality control, staff turnover, project management, financial management, and customer service. This is an update as of March 28, 2020, after 9 months since the beginning of this project we finally have had a working system for about a month. A representative from Sungevity/Solar Spectrum (Blake) was assigned to our account to make us happy customers going forward. After much marketing speech and promises, he can't respond to the most basic questions. And, does not even answer my email. From a knowledge base, technical expertise, customer standpoint, this company is unable to deliver adequate customer support.

Nightmare from the start !, beware of this company. They are the nicest people when they are trying to get you to go solar.Once they got you forget it! List of just a few things they have done. 1) promised solar installation that took an extra 4 months from original date. 2) Did not bother telling us they switched financers, so I had no way to pay them for the first 4 months.Wich accumulated a bill as you can imagine. 3) Set up a monitering account under the wrong adress, so all readings of consumptipn and production was wrong. 4) At the end of the first year, we underproduced almost 5000 kwh's for the year. Resulting in a $743 bill from Edison. We were promised 7311 kwh we recieved only 2438 Kwh. 5) I had to investigate this myself by comparing numbers from Edison! Had I not they would have never told me! (Likely happening to thousands) 6) After reviewing my data they said they would only pay around 170.00 to make it right. (Several hundred dollars short) 7) They give false dates for updates via phone/email that come and go everytime, with no notification. (Dont give a date if your not going to uphold it, people wait around expecting a call or email if you say you are going to do so on a certain day) And when you do get finally get ahold of them by calling several times for days/weeks, they say they were in meetings all day or out sick.BS! (Happend several times with the same person,as if they forgot they used that excuse in the past) 8) The incentive came almost a year later, dont believe them when they say youll get one.You have to call and almost beg for it, for months.Plus theres a ton of unmentioned forms that need to be signed and sent back. Someone up top is skimming and people dont know the lesser.I will be contacting the media BBB and have already spoken to a lawer who will pursue my case, thats how serius these guys have messed up. Its in black and white that they broke the contract. All they had to do was make it right, instead they got greedy with the wrong one. Beware of this company

My experience with Sungevity has been a complete and total nightmare. Let me start my saying, I signed my contracts for my solar projects in early/mid Aug of this year. After completing the permit stage, I was given a installation date of Oct 2 and the installers would arrive between 8:00 and 9:00 am. Well 8:00 am came and went, 9:00 am came and went, then 10:00 am came and went. I called my project manager and left a voice message. 11:00 am came and went and still no installer nor a return call from my project manager. I called her again and left another voicemail followed up with an email. Finally she calls me back to inform me that there was an inventory issue and the installation would not take place. A week later I was given another installation date of Dec 6. You're not going to believe this but my wife was home getting ready for work on Nov 29 and guess who shows up at my house, you guessed it, the installers. One full week before the scheduled installation date. No prior call or email. They just showed up... So here it is Dec 16 and my solar installation is still not complete and most likely will miss the tax break for this calendar year. At this point I just want to get out of the contract.

In October of 2016 we paid around $30000 for a 32 panel solar system from Sungevity. We purchased outright. The next person to come to our house after the installer left had Solar Ponics written across the side of their work truck. Installation went well. The system continues to work well. Just under a year later we were notified by whatever was left of Sungevity that the company was protected by chapter 11 bankruptcy. There was no longer any warranty on our system. There was no one to call. No one would be monitoring our system but the power company to manage our production. Three buffoons, Danny K, Andrew B, and Alec G bear the burden of runnng what appeared to be a promising and successful company into the ground. So, when I saw that the Sungevity corporation has returned as a company with at least two of these three environmentalists turned entrepreneurs, I felt my obligation to warn others. Guarantees not honored are lies. Businesses that fail like this one did just two years ago are not to be trusted. Do not shake hands with these people. Their hands are hot pokers. You will get burned

Absolutely horrible experience so far. Unfortunately, bought a house that had a solar lease with them, and it wasn't worth losing the house over it. But, not only the worst contract I've ever seen, its also been horrible customer service. Had issues transferring over the lease (still waiting for that info) and the person who handles this (Jenny) was rude and short on the phone. She kept claiming that things were in the contract (which as new buyer, I did not have the original contract) and then said, oh its on this, page, I mean this contract, I mean .... ??? When transfering a lease, they ask for your banking information to set up an automatic ACH payment monthly, which I refused to do until they gave me information about the actual contract. I dont want a random company that has previously gone bankrupt to have the ability to debit my bank account. I told her I did not want to set it up and to let me know how I could send in my payments. Apparently there is no way to do this other than calling in the info every month - no idea how they will do this as I assume they do not accept credit card, so I guess you just call them and give them your bank account number anyways?? When I called to follow up since the account had still had not been transferred, Jenny told me she was busy and she could look into things "if she had the time." Jenny also rudely told me, well you need to set up auto debiting from your bank account, or we will charge you a $10 service fee for every payment. So fine, I guess I will have to set up the automatic transfer. But they also do not provide ANY way to do this SECURELY. You have to write out all you information and send via email. There is no way to mail this (or a check) for payment. So, I filled out the form and told them to call me for the account number. My guess is that they never will, they will claim "autotransfer was not set up" and they will probably charge a late fee and a service fee. And Jenny will be rude about it all the same. Absolutely horrible experience, wish there were a way to break this solar lease.

I have had a Sungevity product since 2011. My true ups have gone from $200 in my first year to now $1700. I have reached out and complained several times with comments such as "you are using too much energy" or "the solar panels are generating just fine" But I have no way to track the production. I have asked that they do a servicing to make sure that the energy generated is properly going to PGE and company, HelioPower, they contract the servicing to is horrible. They called me and hung up stating they need to call back, and then I received a text a month later that they have been trying to reach me. Bull. I went through all my phone records and never received another call from them. I set up an appointment with HelioPower only to call them that morning when the service tech was a 1/2 hour late to find out they never scheduled the appointment. My neigherbor has the same system as mine but with 4 more panels and his true up right now is $10, whereas mine is $400 and the year is not out yet. Once I get the reports needed from all parties, I will be filing a complaint to the FTC. I am fed up.

Hi Susannah, I am sorry to hear you had this poor experience! I can understand why you would be fed up. I sent you an email directly explaining that we are actually not the company that services your system and provided you with contact information about who to reach out to for service and solar questions. I hope this helps you out! Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to further assist you. Blake Hazelrigg Senior Manager

We purchase a 42 panel system about 3 years ago. That system went down, so I contacted the sub-contractor who actually did the install. The technician told me that Solar Spectrum held our account and they would have to refer the service request to that sub. I got shuffled to a voice mailbox (with no option to speak to a human) and got no return call. Fortunately, the sub-contractor suspected a faulty connection, that I was able to localize, and with this technician's guidance correct the problem in question. He said that he would Solar Spectrum's approval to facilitate monitoring from SolarEdge (inverter maker) - I am unable to get through to them to get help. We spent $30,000 on this system, and we now have no support or any way to get it. I am very disappointed in sungevity- and would love to be able to work directly with the local contractor...

The sales people are excellent. However, the problems all started thereafter. I signed a contract on 10/1/18, and have yet to receive solar power. Every couple of weeks when I contact the person in charge of getting my solar power running, I get the same response. I am told that in the next week, an inspection will be scheduled and they are close to being down. However, months have passed and no inspection has been scheduled and no one is updating me on what is taking so long. In the meanwhile, I am paying a monthly bill to Edison (which they have promised to pay but I have yet to receive the check that was allegedly mailed over three weeks ago), and a monthly solar bill (even though I have no solar power and they have also promised to reimburse me for that payment). However, my phone calls and emails have gone unanswered in the past three weeks. I have received multiple broken promises and continue to get the run around from this company. I am extremely dissatisfied with the poor customer service. In December, I spoke with Blake H, who assured me that he would handle all complaints/issues moving forward. However, he has yet to respond to my emails or voice messages for the past three weeks (including an email and voice message from today). On today, I also called three people within this company and no one answered my calls or returned my calls. I find this to be very unprofessional and have run out of options on how to get things handled with this business.

We had Sungevity install panels just before the bankruptcy. Shortly after, we received an email from Solar Spectrum, saying they would honor our warranty. After 6 attempts to contact them, we still have received no response. Our system is not producing, is showing multiple error codes, and I received a bill from the electric company in November for over $1,700, so the system clearly hasn’t been producing for sometime. I received an email from Sungevity (?!?) earlier this month, so I called them, hoping to get someone out here to fix the production problems. We’ll see, but I am not impressed, and would certainly advise anyone against going solar with any company! They’re great right up to the point they get you online and start taking your money, but after that, you’re left high and dry.

I reached out to Sungevity at the end of October 2018; signed with Alex at Sungevity 11/02/2018; I later found out after signing paperwork for Solar Spectrum, NOT Sungevity, which was fine. I have not put eyes on anyone at this point. I met with the initial home inspector 11/07/2018. Everything seemed fine until installation time. This section is to be performed by Horizon, NOT Sungevity NOR Solar Spectrum, ok that is fine, however, the 1st day was a NO SHOW, I called the project manager which is located in Kansas City, spoke about it in detail, and was told I can not back out of contract without penalties, ok he set up a 2nd appt, guys showed up, worked for a couple hours, placed some railing on roof and left rest of equipment in the back yard, ok that is fine, next day NO SHOW AGAIN. I called again, and now spoke with regional manager also in Kansas City, he calmed me down and assured me moving forward, the install will go as planned. Day 4(12/20/2018), scheduled for completion on install, NO SHOW AGAIN! I'm already screwed, so this is to ASSIST others. If you can not meet who you are paying in person, don't do it! I will be looking into the legal aspects of this contract today!

Very deceptive bait and switch practices. Seller (Anthony) quoted me a price for 13 panels and after going through all the documentation, processing my credit and even sending me the loan documents he say he can no longer sell me the solar panels and the price he quoted and that the cost has to go up over $900. He dismissed it as it only increased my monthly payment by $1. Then he later tried to increase the value of the deal by adding another panel for a total of 14 panels for an additional $47. The next day he comes back saying that he can't sell me the 14 panels for the $47 price increase and that he needs to charge me an additional $600+ dollars. My deal is now over $20k for 14 panels. He then goes on to talk about how the large price tag is due to a dealer fee because I am getting a loan. Why did he not mention this from the very beginning? Super deceptive and not transparent. Buyers beware. **Update** Anthony's manager (Marco) called me back to apologize for the issue I described above. I'll give 2 star for customer service for that. He also offered to extend a discounted price, at which he states, where he will break even so I gave him a chance to offer a new price. $500 off. $500 off? Are you kidding me. While I appreciate the gesture... 2.5% discount? The system will still be over $20k for a 4.2kwh system. Marco tried to justify his cost and even state that solar costs have gone up over the years because in the past solar companies were installing at cost or a loss to gain market share. All my research shows otherwise. All my other quotes are significantly less (roughly 35% less) and they are not a no name company. They are reputable local companies with great reviews. I will never go for the cheapest bid because obviously you get what you pay for, but I don't think Sungevity is worth the 30% premium. BE SURE TO GET OTHER QUOTES. Compare apples to apples.

Hi Josh, I am very sorry to hear about this experience! We always do all we can to offer the best customer experience in the industry and it sounds as though that is definitely not what you received. I have asked one of our Senior Sales Managers to reach out to you directly and see if there is anything we can do on our end to help mend things and review pricing etc. Again, we are very sorry your initial experience was not ideal and hope we can get this turned around from a 1 star rating. Thank you for considering us for your solar needs. Blake Hazelrigg Senior Manager

Currently, I have had a lot of issues with this company - been called by different company names without them identifying Sungevity association, bad customer service, impersonal, rapid-fire sales that don’t allow the consumer to get answers needed to make an informed decision, over-selling of panels (want to sell me panels to cover 200% of my current usage but won’t explain why that is a good choice for me). Felt as though they were rushing me through everything. Highly considering going with a different company, not comfortable with Sungevity at this point, and unless things change will not refer others to use Sungevity.

I am writing my review based on my experiences with Solar Spectrum. This is the company that bought Sungevity. The irony is I called them based on their top review rating on this website. Anthony was very informative although he required me to sign an agreement to get the estimate of what it would cost to have solar put on the house. All of this occurred in one phone call. I was impressed with the expedience, but concerned about docusigning the agreement. He said the agreement wasn't valid until the Solar Spectrum people had signed it and sent me a copy with both signatures. I was also given a Notice of Cancelation, which by law I have 3 days to use. He sent an home inspector out to see if our roof was a viable option for solar within the three days. I canceled the agreement, (which still was not signed by the company) on the third day. I sent this to Anthony. He responded several times afterwards, so I know he received it. 10 days later I get a message from the project manager at Solar Spectrum saying they have submitted my project to the building dept. for a permit! I also get an email from billing to go over how I would be billed for my project. I called the billing dept. and explained that I had canceled this agreement 10 days prior. Today I get a phone call from the project manager saying I would be billed for the work they had performed after I canceled my agreement. I told him that he had no right to perform this work, due to the fact that the agreement was canceled. He argued with me until I was infuriated! He also told me that I didn't send my Notice of Cancelation to right person....which was the person who request said agreement from me in the first place. I told him that I would seek an attorney if I receive a bill from him. He said to do so and that "we're a big company"! I feel bullied. harassed and threatened by this company. I would advise to stay away from them.

DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY. UPDATE: 8/3/2018 Still no phone call from anyone and their online monitoring system states that they stopped the monitoring on March 14, 2018. I did get a hold of the installer and they came out and stated I have not been producing energy and that I needed to call and get a new inverter. Still no contact form Solar Spectrum who are the people I am supposed to call for service. UPDATE: They have reached out about this bad review and stating that it is not fair, well my solar panels have not reported to their system since March 2018. I now have to pay my electric company $200 and I have again tried contacting Solar Spectrum as I suspect that they are no longer producing energy, but low and behold I still can not get a hold of anyone. I have called the number and left messages, and recieved a message that they do not have me on file. But they do want me to take down this poor review and when I mentioned it to the person, he stated that he can not help me as he is not a solar tech, but that my concern will be brought up to someone and they will contact me and that he can see that I am a customer with them. ****************************************************** I bought the solar panels through Sungevity, now I have been trying to get a hold of someone since the bankruptcy took place and they took over. I AM NOT A CUSTOMER AND THEY CAN NOT SEE ME IN THE SYSTEM. I am stuck with a loan and no one to service my panels!!! Yet they sent me a letter stating that they were going to take over the monitoring of panels.

I have had solar system for a year. I was informed last year that Sungevity had gone bankrupt and received a letter stating that. At the time of installation, it went smoothly and the workmen were great. When I called the company about my gift card was when I found out the company had gone bankrupt and was picked up by Sunrun who I have had no problem with. It was only after repeated phone calls to Sungevity that I got the information via mail they were in bankruptcy. Sunrun has been very good and always answer my questions. If someone is selling Sungevity they are using the name and is not the company you think it is. I also called one of the agents who sold the system to me and he too reinterated that the company had gone belly-up. STAY AWAY FROM SUNGEVITY.

I purchased the solar panels from Sungevity in 2016, project was completed in December 2016. March of 2017 we started receiving bankruptcy notices from the US Bankruptcy court. We contacted Sungevity, and we were assured that even though we purchased our panels and monitoring services outright, we would still be provided with monitoring service when the new company took them over. Long story short, we have been in contact Patrick M. (CEO) and Blake H.(Senior Solutions Manager), Solar Spectrum will not monitor them, and the vendors they supplied to us will charge us. Be careful if you purchase anything from this company.

Referral fee not paid! I made a referral when (unbeknownst) to me, Sungevity (now Solar Spectrum) was being taken over by Sunrun. Subsequent to my referral, a contract was signed by my friends and a rather large solar system was purchased from Sungevity for their home. Neither Sunrun, Sungevity, nor Solar Spectrum ever made good on payment of the referral fee due me. I tried on numerous occasions to collect the referral fee, but was unsuccessful. Many of my calls were ignored, as were some of my emails. Sunrun pointed fingers to Sungevity as the responsible party, and Sungevity pointed to Sunrun. The only “collection” information I ever received (several months later) was that I could go to court and file as a creditor to get what was owed me. I did not...at this point it was not worth any more of my time or effort. And yes .... I believe this is what both companies expected. Create hassle for the victim to collect and chances are they won’t waste the time to do so. After a recent negative review I made against Sunrun, they again pointed to Sungevity for recourse, further advising that Sungevity was now Solar Spectrum. Other than attempting collection of my referral fee through court, the only other remedy I now have is to tell others about my experience and offer my opinion about these dishonest companies. Sungevity (Solar Spectrum) and Sunrun failed to provide the referral fee promised. They are not to be trusted, make hollow promises and simply don’t care. With all the companies now offering solar, I would suggest that a potential buyer look at other solar companies before contracting with Sunrun or Sungevity (Solar Spectrum), that a potential buyer find a solar company that (first and foremost) is loyal to their customers.

I waisted about 1.5hrs on the phone after researching solar to get some information on pricing. I reached Jacob Greenhoe, I asked what Solar products they sell he proceeded to tell me that Trina was there best product. I pulled up a Manufacturer Efficiency Rating Table on line and saw that Trina was RATED a Standard panel (middle of the road). I told him that I was looking for a Premium Panel and Jacob continued to tell me that Trina was a Premium panel which is completely false. .... as if I am imaging the ratings! He then proceeded to send me an estimate (after i have received 5 others) being 10,000 higher then the Panasonic which is considered a Premium panel with a 25 year warranty. It seems this company is like dealing with used car sales men. After telling Jacob I would NOT be purchasing a middle of the road panel for $10,000 more then a Premium, he tried to scare me by telling me that it would costs thousands to fix any errors that an installer would make if it wasn't there crew. I hung up. Don't waist your time calling these people, it was a joke!
