The Good

  • Guarantees
  • Process
  • Solar Panel Quality
  • Refer-a-Friend Program
  • NABCEP-Certified Designers
  • Incentives

Guarantees

Skyline Solar is unique in that it guarantees a timeframe in which the installation will be complete. The company guarantees your project will be on and producing power within 120 days from the start of the process. There is also a guarantee that you won’t incur any additional expenses after signing up.

Process

Something homeowners may appreciate about Skyline Solar is the company's dedication to providing a customized solar project to meet each client's unique needs.

When you first meet with a company representative, they will look at your current power usage. This will help Skyline Solar determine the exact size of your solar PV system and how many solar panels you will need based on your home and energy consumption.

After assessing the size and number of panels needed, the company will install your panels.

Skyline Solar is a full-service solar provider that doesn't outsource to third-party installers. Instead, clients can expect to only work with Skyline Solar employees.

Once the solar panels are installed, Skyline will set up net metering.

A net metering agreement allows homeowners to connect their current power grid with the solar panels and earn credit toward their energy bills when their energy output is more than their energy usage. Net metering helps homeowners avoid the high cost of solar battery storage and power during the winter months when the sunshine is limited.

Solar Panel Quality

Skyline Solar offers some of the best solar panels, inverters, and mounting materials in the industry. Its Tier 1 solar equipment includes the following:

  • LG solar panels and Hanwha Q Cells
  • SolarEdge solar inverter
  • IronRidge racking equipment

In addition to industry-leading equipment and know-how, Skyline Solar provides versatile solar setups that are tailored specifically to system requirements and customer input. The company not only specializes in ground-mounted systems, but can also safely mount its solar panels to almost any type of roof - including clay tiles.

Refer-a-Friend Program

Skyline Solar allows its clients to earn some extra cash. Homeowners with Skyline can refer their family or friends and every reference who follows through with an install earns you a $500 check.

NABCEP-Certified Designers

Skyline Solar employs designers who have been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Producers (NABCEP), an industry-recognized organization and standard-bearer for best renewably energy practices.
Once the system has been designed up to code, Skyline Solar's consultants will educate customers on the ins and outs of solar energy, energy costs, and any other questions they may have.

Incentives

Skyline Solar educates consumers on the tax incentives that come with investing in solar power. There is a federal solar tax credit, also known as the Investment Tax Credit or ITC. This allows homeowners to deduct 26 percent of the cost of installing a solar system from your federal taxes. Additionally, the ITC applies to residential and commercial systems, and there is no cap on its value.

However, it is important to know that signing a lease or a PPA with a solar installer means you are not eligible for the tax credit (since you are not the owner of the system).

While tax incentives are not unique to this company, consumers will appreciate the details they can learn from the company and get their questions answered.

The Bad

  • No Financing Information
  • Mixed Reviews

No Financing Information

While Skyline Solar's website is generally helpful, we would like to see information about financing. Skyline Solar has state-specific net-metering and tax incentive information on the website. However, that's all there is. It would be nice to know more about Skyline Solar's loans if there is a loan partnership as well as solar lease and PPA options if applicable.

Mixed Reviews

Even the best companies can expect negative reviews from time to time. What we look for when this happens is responsiveness to concerns.

Skyline Solar's review repository is overwhelmingly positive overall, but customer communication concerns tend to be in older reviews, indicating the company has made improvements over time. Additionally, the company has taken the time to respond to reviews with information that can help each customer resolve their concerns.

The Bottom Line

Skyline Solar is a good option to consider for solar power. It is fairly new to the industry but has made great strides in making a name for itself. The company offers customized solar solutions, a 25-year manufacturer warranty, and most impressively, guarantees to ensure an efficient and transparent process.

Just make sure you understand financing options, including eligibility requirements and loan obligations, before signing a contract. And, as always, we recommend reading customer reviews (below).

Skyline Solar Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the process of going solar with Skyline?

Skyline is a vertically integrated solar company, with over 100 years of combined solar experience that fulfills from Proposal & Design to System-On and Servicing. This means we do not subcontract any of the work out and we have it all under one roof, which ensures quality control, speed, and efficiency.  Everything starts with a discovery call to find out if solar is a good fit on your home. We collect the last 12 months of your electrical consumption, then we tailor make a design through a NABCEP-certified process that ensures accuracy. After the design is done, we provide a virtual or in-home consultation to educate you through options that best suit the goals you have for your family’s future.

How much does solar cost?

There are a variety of different options. The most popular is a $0 down, $0 out-of-pocket option available through any one of our financing partners. This often results in a bill swap from what you are currently paying to an ownership payment that adds equity to your home while providing your energy needs. The costs are determined by the amount of energy your home consumes and what size of system will fit on your roof or mounted on your property. These solutions are presented in your consultation.

Does solar provide all my energy needs?

Depending on the available amount of space on your roof and the energy demand of your home, solar systems can provide anywhere from 10%–150% of your energy needs. Some utilities restrict the amount of energy you can produce on your own; we will help in determining this as part of our Proposal and Design process.

How long does it take to go solar?

The timeline of your solar project from Site Survey to System-On varies based on where you live and the utility company that provides your power. On average it takes about 90 days total, but some experience under 60 days, while others can take up to 120 days. If we didn’t have to work with utilities and we got to install the new meters ourselves, this wouldn’t vary as much.

When is the best time to go solar?

The best time to go solar is yesterday! Really, things change so frequently with local and federal incentives that people who wait really do miss out on bigger and better deals. Currently the Federal Tax Credit is scheduled to decrease another 4% January 1, 2021. If your system isn’t installed by then resulting in a loss of $1,200–$2,500. We recommend receiving the consultation as soon as possible so you know the exact value of the incentives available for your custom solar system.

What equipment will Skyline Solar use on my house?

We source the right equipment that will produce the best results in the area for which you live. Some areas experience more extreme weather, so we use Tier 1 panels that have been tested and tried in extreme situations that best match the production climate you live in. We offer high-quality products whether you’re interested in economy or premium panels. We help you understand which is best in your situation to use and why. A 25-year power warranty is standard among all Tier 1 panels. Most modules have a 12–25 year product warranty and inverters usually carry a 12-year warranty with options to extend. Every solar company's workmanship warranty is different, and you are encouraged to get the fine print.

Do I need a battery?

Needing a battery depends on what you would like to power in the event of a power outage. We are a certified installer of the LG Chem battery that can backup 4–5 circuits of your home with one battery and can expand from there. People who experience brownouts frequently, work from home, or have medical equipment, should consider the value of having a portion of their power backed up

How do I know if my panels are working?

Every system comes with an app that is connected to your inverter. This allows you to monitor the production of your system by day, week, month, and year. It’s accessible on your mobile or desktop computers. Monitoring allows you to see the overall solar system and how it is producing. Our app also includes a great feature that shows you the value of the energy you produced and what it’s worth.  Being able to monitor your system allows you to recognize when things are not working properly and notify our staff to help you troubleshoot the issue. If there is something wrong, we can send a technician out to fix any problems that may have come up.

What if I move?

Research is showing that homes with solar are selling 20%–30% faster than homes without. In a lot of areas, homes are getting dollar for dollar on what they spend in added home value. In the event you move, the system stays with the home and you can either pay the system off with the sale of the home, or the new homeowner can apply to take the payments over. The easiest and quickest way is to collect that equity and pay whatever remaining balance you owe on the solar system. The new homeowner will now have their energy built into their mortgage.

The person that sold this to us was dishonest. Told me we would not have anymore MidAmerican bills, learned still have gas which now paying double. It’s awful! I referred one person and made made it hard for me I had to really push to get the referral. After I got it, it was hard to get any follow up as everyone kept leaving.

**Avoid Skyline Solar** Looking back, we wish we had trusted the reviews on the BBB and avoided using Skyline Solar. This Company is deceptive and lacks integrity, timeliness, and proper communication. Skyline's sales team (Nick) and engineering staff completely over sold the system and then under delivered on their promises. Here are the facts (which will be undisputed by Skyline) from start to finish. We were sold on a system that would over produce in the summer months to pay for our usage during the winter here in Iowa. The chart in their presentation even showed it! Turns out the chart was not of our usage but just a generic model. Skyline never graphed our usage and assumed that the chart would cover, they were wrong. We use approx. 1,900 kWh during our peak summer months and the chart showed us only using 1,400 kWh. They also committed to 99% coverage with the system (it is on their proposal), we have been paying Mid-American well over $100+ every month since the system has been turned on in June of 2022 and have yet to bank one iota of energy for winter. Turns out that they took some averages of our billing (instead of graphing our usage) and promised during the sales pitch that the system would cover. The difference, which I graphed and demonstrated to them later, shorted us a significant amount of kWh for the year. Mind you that these people are supposed to be the experts! Contract was terrible (please read it). Coming from a contracts background for work, it is full of language that is not good for you as the consumer and so we had to negotiate terms. We signed in October 2021. They promise to have the system up and running in 120 days, it wasn't operational till 8 months later. The team installing was brand new and knew very little of what they were doing. The panel installation looked horrible (which I made them fix), a man fell through the ceiling of my brand-new garage and the foreman almost dug a hole through live power lines (had I not been there to stop him). As other reviews have noted, they went radio silent after install. No communication, no calls, nothing. As the consumer, I had to constantly probe them as to why the system was not operational. After a list of excuses, Skyline finally stepped up and finished their part and got the system turned on. We could tell there was a problem right away and that it was not meeting the expectations set out by Nick on their sales team. Immediately, they tried to blame us and our usage as the problem, but I demonstrated through billing that we were using less than in 2021 and should be over producing per their chart. Then they tried blaming us for a lack of accurate data on our billing. We quick showed them (via an accurate chart) that it was their engineering team who took liberties and did not graph out our usage and instead used an average that shorted us. They never stepped up and took responsibility for their issues and that lack of integrity it what bothers us the most. We spent the next 4 months trying to get them to fix the system and make it right, but they ultimately refused and offered only to change out some light bulbs and the thermostat (which was already brand new) as a "fix" to the problem. They refused to upgrade the panels to meet their 99% expectation and would not give us a partial refund either. We will ultimately spend $1000's of dollars more now over the life of this system and wish that we had never contracted with Skyline Solar.

SKYLINE SOLAR LLC ( PleasantGrove, Utah ) is the biggest joke of a company. The system that they installed was not the system that my home requires. This is a direct result of SKYLINE SOLAR miscalculating my home's energy requirements. I have been complaining for the past almost three years now. On one of the few rare ocassions that I tried to reach anyone from SKYLINE SOLAR, their remedy to fixing their mistake was for me to spend more money. After I refused to pay extra, I haven't heard a word from SKYLINE SOLAR. Now that they have been paid in full for the job, they could care less about fixing their mistake unless if there is a bad review submitted against them..Then and only then will you hear from them with lies of how they are going to help. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY BECAUSE SKYLINE SOLAR TAKES PRIDE IN RIPPING CUSTOMERS OFF. Don't take my word for it though, just read other reviews about them. The good reviews were sent from employees, family members, and friends of theirs in order to look good. Anyway, they admitted on a written document that they miscalculated and installed an incorrect sytem. This was probably the only truth that I have gotten from SKYLINE SOLAR from the start of this project until now, almost three years later. This company has no interest in fixing their mistakes for free, so be very very careful not to allow this sham of a company any business unless if you don't mind being taken advantage of. BOTTOM LINE, RUN AWAY IN TERROR FROM THIS JOKE OF A COMPANY...

We decided to put solar in because I don't really like giving the power company money we were lied to and ignored the were installed in 1.7 months ago they paid my overages for four months knowing there were issues the panels they sold me where the wrong wattage I still have a 155.00 power bill and 199.00 dollar bill for the panels spoken to the owner and he thinks that replacing the panels with a higher watt would take care of the issue it's gotten worse, not better I've tried to be nice and work with this Solar Rip off a company I'm in Cheyenne Wyoming they have never checked the panels either they say it was calculated wrong and want me to buy more panels knowing the first four months there was an issue I've did emails and phone calls and they won't fix this problem now I guess ill have to try to file complaints and maybe have to go legal to get them to come to get their equipment off my home. Im only saying something because I don't want someone going through this nightmare. I paid 36.000 dollars to pay higher power bills

We appreciate this customer informing us of some issues with his system. We learned that the system was slightly under producing what we originally estimated our proposal. We provided compensation for the difference that the system didn't cover for the 4 months it had been under producing. We then increased the system size by swapping out the original panels for higher wattage ones after realizing the panels that were installed were slightly different from what was originally proposed. The result now is the system is on track in 2021 to produce 15% more than we originally planned in annual estimated production in the initial proposal. Over the life of the system, we estimate the new panels will produce much more than we originally estimated. Thank you for choosing Skyline, if there are any other issues we can resolve please don't hesitate to reach us at 855-475-9765

Problems with installation, calling and calling and calling and not able to get help for over a month before a manager got back with me. Now it's up and running and we were told that it would cover 100% of our electric usage... NOT!!! Contacted them to see why we were only producing a fraction of what was promised and they said 50% is actually the magic number. Never been so disappointed.

This system relies on a connection through YOUR internet connection that you pay for and sends the information gathered to China. It is an open hole to the your network just to monitor the system and since its a micro-inverter may not even work UNLESS it's "connected" to China. Find one that has onsite monitoring only. Additionally, the system installed on my home is only outputting about 10% of capacity. Unfortunately I did not do due diligence in researching efficiency , usability and system access risk. Go with a better explained, less "foreign" system.

Hi Steve, Depending on your inverter you can upgrade to a cellular based monitoring. If you want to look into that you can submit a ticket to our customer service department @ www.skylinesolarpower.com/contactus they should be able to find out if that is an option for your inverter.

The price of panels is high. Our benefit from xcel is low and when we talked to our realtor about them she said we'd never recoup the cost.

Leslie, sorry you haven't felt like you have received the benefit quite yet. I do know that it takes about a year to build up credits from the utility to fully offset your consumption with solar. I would recommend calling in if you want to make sure your production is on point. 855-475-9765. In regards to your relator. We just had a customer get an appraisal on their home and they got dollar for dollar what they had purchased the system for a year ago before tax credits! What this means is they haven't even paid more than $900 in energy payments and have increased the value of their home that much and received a 30% tax credit all for just switching the way they buy energy. This customer told us they requested an appraiser who has experience with solar. Let us know if you need anything! We are here to help :)
