Headquartered in Front Royal, Virginia, Skyline Solar has been providing residential solar installation services to homeowners across the state since its founding in 2020. The solar company conducts all services — consultation, design, installation, etc. — in-house, and even provides specialized “solar barn” services for farmers and other commercial ventures.

Top Ranked Companies

The Good

  • Integrated Solar Company
  • Industry-Leading Solar Partnerships
  • Zero-Down Financing

Integrated Solar Company

Skyline Solar appears to be a near-fully integrated solar provider, meaning, apart from actually manufacturing the solar components, the company conducts every step of the solar installation process in-house:

  • Energy consultation and audit — Virginia homeowners are encouraged to set up a free, no-commitment appointment to see if their home qualifies for a solar PV system. Topics such as the home’s sun exposure, the solar installation process, and available financing options and solar incentives will be discussed.
  • System design and proposal — Qualifying homeowners will receive a custom solar array design specifically engineered to maximize their savings and solar output. Skyline Solar’s technician team will take physical measurements of the roof and select the best available products. Skyline Solar will also take the homeowner’s budget and energy needs into consideration.
  • Permitting and installation — Skyline Solar will pull all utility and city permits required to install a solar panel system prior to installation. Once secured, the company will build the system; homeowners also have the option to add solar battery storage to their new system.
  • Interconnection and education — Once the solar energy system has passed city inspection, Skyline Solar will work with the local utility to activate the system. The solar company will also provide ongoing support post-installation should customers have any questions regarding materials warranties in the unlikely event of a system malfunction.

Industry-Leading Solar Partnerships

Skyline Solar has partnered with some of the biggest names in solar equipment to deliver high-efficiency systems that are built to last.

Solar panels are sourced from industry leaders like Solaria, Hanwha Q CELLS, LG, Panasonic, and Silfab Solar — all of which develop panels with a high efficiency rating, and extended warranties ranging from 10 to 25 years.

Solar inverters meanwhile, are sourced by Enphase and SolarEdge, both considered the best in the business in terms of micro inverter technology, whole-home integration, and energy consumption monitoring.

Panel mounting systems come from IronRidge, Unirac, and S-5!, which provide solar users with the best roof and ground racking equipment available.

And finally, the company allows customers the option to upgrade their systems through the following solar backup options:

  • Enphase IQ
  • LG Chem
  • Sonnen Batterie ecoLinx[

Zero-Down Financing

Skyline Solar also provides homeowners with zero-down financing to help them save on solar energy from day one. Considering the typical solar panel system in Virginia can cost up to $20,000, a zero-down loan represents massive upfront savings. Customers who finance through a loan also qualify for the Federal Solar Tax Credit, which translates to more savings.

The Bad

  • No Lease or PPA
  • Limited to Virginia
  • Undisclosed Workmanship Warranty
  • Not NABCEP Certified
  • Suspended Twitter Account

No Lease or PPA

Skyline Solar only provides customers the option to purchase or loan their solar panel systems; the company does not employ solar leases or power purchase agreements (PPA), which can be cost-effective alternatives for homeowners with limited means.

Limited to Virginia

The company only serves customers in Virginia, and given the increasing number of solar companies operating in that state, homeowners are strongly encouraged to read verified Skyline Solar reviews prior to obtaining a free consultation.

Undisclosed Workmanship Warranty

Skyline Solar is clear about the robust materials warranties included in each of its solar panel systems; however, the company has yet to exercise similar candor toward its workmanship warranty, if one exists.

The workmanship warranty applies to the labor required to install the system, and protects customers from paying for errors or damage caused by the installation team. Leading solar companies attach workmanship warranties good for 25 years.

Not NABCEP Certified

Skyline Solar does not appear to be certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), which authors some of the most highly regarded solar installation training programs in the industry.

While this in no way suggests poor quality on Skyline Solar’s part, the presence of this certification can be compelling for homeowners looking for true solar experts to design and install their system.

Suspended Twitter Account

As an aside, Skyline Solar’s corporate Twitter account is currently suspended for violating the social media platform’s terms of use. While the exact reasons for the suspension are unclear, customers are increasingly relying on a given company’s online reputation. Consequently, this suspension may produce a chilling effect on customers comparing multiple solar providers.

The Bottom Line

If you live in Virginia and are interested in working with a local solar installer, Skyline Solar may be the right choice for you. Although the company has only been around since 2020, and may not have the long track record of some of the more nationally known brands, the solar company carries products from industry leaders, and flexible financing options good for almost any budget.

More information regarding its status with the NABCEP and workmanship warranty may be needed prior to a full recommendation. Customers are also encouraged to read Skyline Solar reviews to see how well the company delivers on its promises.

We recommend customers compare their free quote from Skyline Solar to other providers in their area to see which company is best for them.

Pros: Good installation and speed getting the system setup Cons: Lack of communication Often they will schedule times to meet and fail to show up or even contact you about issues or follow up appointments. Truly frustrating how little your time is valued once they have your money.
