Quality Brands

HES Solar distributes and installs solar products from the top brands in the industry. Solar panel systems are manufactured by SunPower. This includes SunPower Equinox for residential systems and SunPower Helix for commercial systems.

HES Solar also sells options for solar battery storage. HES Solar installs SunPower’s SunVault, Tesla’s Powerwall, and Enphase’s Encharge home battery. Home batteries can store solar energy made during the day and use it at night, or can serve as a backup when a power outage occurs.

Lastly, HES Solar installs electric vehicle chargers. Particularly, the company installs chargers from Chargepoint and EVBox. HES Solar also gives customers the option to get a 240-volt outlet installed in the garage. This way, if customers eventually get an electric vehicle, the garage is already prepared for an electric vehicle charger.

Maintenance Plans

HES Solar has solar system maintenance options. These services are not only available to HES Solar customers. Even those who had their solar PV system installed by a different contractor can purchase a maintenance plan through HES Solar. The pricing will just be a bit different. These are the maintenance plans offered by HES Solar:

  • Solar Protect — Free or $99 for non-HES systems. Includes monitoring, alert updates, and phone support.
  • Solar Protect Plus — $499 annually or $599 annually for non-HES systems. Includes all aspects of the protect plan, in addition to preventative maintenance and an annual service call. This is HES Solar’s most popular maintenance plan.
  • Solar Protect Pro — $799 annually or $899 annually for non-HES systems. Includes all parts of the plus plan, in addition to production guarantee and proactive monitoring.

HES Solar is also very transparent about pricing for labor and repairs. The company provides the hourly rate for different job descriptions. Depending on what repairs need to be done, the hourly rate will differ. Details about rates are found on the company’s website.

Financing

When buying a solar PV system, it is important to know what financing options you have. HES Solar has options for loans, leases, and cash purchases on systems. With a lease, you do not pay to own the system. The solar company owns the system and you pay to use it--typically the lease payment is less than a standard electric bill. With HES Solar, leases are flexible. They include insurance coverage, free monitoring, and lifetime repair services.

If you would prefer to own your HES Solar system, you can purchase it upfront or obtain a loan. Both options are eligible for the 26% Federal Investment Tax Credit. With a loan, there is no prepay penalty and no annual escalator. When a system is purchased outright, you have 100% ownership from the beginning, and can start saving on your electric bill immediately.

The 26% Federal Investment Tax Credit can also go toward the Tesla PowerWall. With Tesla PowerWall specifically, HES Solar offers rebates. For the first Tesla PowerWall unit purchase, customers can receive up to $2,900. For two units, $5,800.

Time in Business

Solar companies have been popping up all over the nation in the past few years, but HES Solar has been in the business awhile. The company has been around for 20 years. It has kept up with technology innovations and continues to work with the best solar products in the industry. Level III and Level IV Techs at HES Solar are NABCEP Certified and have more than five years of experience.

A company with this much experience can be trusted. This is confirmed by existing customer reviews for HES Solar. Previous customers are generally pleased with the service and expertise offered by the professionals at HES Solar.

The Bad

  • Limited to Southern California

Limited to Southern California

HES Solar limits its business to the Southern California region. A local company can certainly be a benefit to those who live in the area, but unfortunately those outside of the area will have to find a different solar provider.

The Bottom Line

Customers who choose to go with HES Solar will be working with experienced professionals and getting some of the highest quality products in the solar industry. We recommend HES Solar because the company has a strong brand backed by contractor certifications, accreditation and an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, and partnerships with accomplished manufacturers.
