LAST UPDATED: November 11th, 2023

Since its founding in 2016, G3 Solar has completed over 1,500 installs and 10,650 kWs in total. The company started in Utah and honed its services in the West before expanding into several other states across the country. With its instant savings estimator, prospective clients in G3 Solar markets can quickly identify if solar is something worth pursuing.

Currently, G3 Solar offers traditional solar installation services, roofing repairs and replacements (regardless of whether or not the client decides to also install a solar system), and battery/storage solutions. Clients that have utilized these services have generally expressed positive feedback online.

G3 Solar has also partnered with the Give Power Foundation. This foundation works to deliver clean water to people and in areas where it is needed the most. With every solar project that G3 Solar completes, a portion of the revenue generated is directly donated to the Give Power Foundation.

The Good

  • Quality Equipment
  • Zero-Down Financing
  • Broad Availability
  • Roof Services Offered

Quaity Equipment

Every G3 Solar project is built with top-of-the-line solar equipment, including Tier 1 solar panels from leading manufacturers like Trina and LG. Both Trina and LG rank among the best brands for home solar installation, and produce panels exceeding 20 percent energy efficiency, a rare achievement in the solar industry.

In addition to high-quality solar panels, G3 Solar uses micro inverter technology from Enphase, whose products seamlessly convert solar energy into electricity for your home at an incredibly high rate. Enphase inverters also come with industry-leading monitoring software accessible from any mobile device, so homeowners can know exactly how well their solar system is performing, or can contact G3 directly if output is negatively affected in any way.

G3 Solar also installs solar energy storage solutions in the form of the LG Chem solar battery. A solar battery supplements any existing solar panel system by harnessing excess solar energy that can be used at the homeowners discretion. Applications include nighttime use, emergency situations, or electric vehicle charging.

Zero-Down Financing

For customers who are unable to finance their solar power system directly, G3 Solar offers a path to ownership through zero-down loan financing. That means qualifying homeowners can receive a third-party home energy loan, pay nothing upfront, and still qualify for state rebates and the Federal Solar Tax Credit.

Broad Availability

G3 Solar is available in the following US states:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Idaho
  • Nevada
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Utah

While the relative size of a solar company's service area is not always a direct indicator of its success, the fact that G3 Solar has maintained operations across such a wide swath of states suggests the solar provide is earning enough business to justify its presence so far from its home base in Utah. Readers are encouraged to read verified G3 Solar reviews in their home state to see how the company compares to other solar installers.

Roof Services Offered

Solar systems are designed to effectively produce energy for 25 to 30 years, depending on a number of factors. That being said, some systems produce clean and renewable energy for over 30 years. In these instances, the roof will often need work done before the actual system will need to be replaced. The average residential roof has a lifespan of 20 years. Obviously some last longer and some need to be replaced before the 20 years is up.

Knowing that the solar system has the potential to outlast the roof, G3 Solar offers roofing services. Many solar companies will ask clients to seek out roof repair or replacement prior to the system being installed. G3 handles that for interested clients, streamlining the entire process.

The Bad

  • No NABCEP Certification
  • No Lease or PPA Options
  • Undisclosed Warranty Terms

No NABCEP Certification

G3 Solar does not appear to be certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). The NABCEP is responsible for some of the most advanced solar technician training programs in the country. Solar installers with NABCEP-certified status have met rigorous industry standards and employ technicians with a proven track record of expertise.

While the lack of certification is not judgment against the quality or service of any given solar company, its presence can aid homeowners who are comparing multiple providers in their area.

No Lease or PPA Options

G3 Solar does not offer homeowners solar leases or power purchase agreements (PPA) as a means of switching to solar power. These options act as rental agreements between the homeowner and the installing company and come with low-fixed rates and zero upfront investments. All installation and maintenance fees are also the responsibility of the company.

That said, the financing options G3 Solar does provide (i.e. direct purchase and solar loans) provide the greatest return on investment, and qualify homeowners for all sort of rebates, credits, and other discounts.

Undisclosed Warranty Terms

While G3 Solar does explicitly mention offering both workmanship and roof penetration warranties, specific warranty details could not be found. These include warranty lengths, along with what qualifies as a valid warranty claim. Leading solar providers warranty their workmanship for up to 25 years, and their roof work for up to 10.

The Bottom Line

With G3 Solar, residential property owners can become increasingly energy independent. All equipment installed by G3 Solar is classified as tier-1, meaning it is some of the best the solar market has to offer. Since its founding, G3 Solar has gradually expanded its operation and now offers solar solutions and installation in seven states across the country. Due to the lifetime of a solar system, G3 Solar recognizes the importance of having a high quality, new roof prior to solar system installation. G3 does not require clients to go out and get separate roofing repairs done, but instead offer roofing solutions on top of solar services.

While there are a number of high quality services offered by G3 Solar, there are some limitations to the operation as well. For starters, G3 Solar offers limited equipment warranties and no workmanship warranty on installations. The professional installation team is not NABCEP certified and G3 is focused solely on residential projects. Outside of that scope, clients will need to look elsewhere.

For residential property owners interested in having a solar system installed, G3 Solar may be a quality option but it is advised to take advantage of the free consultation part of the process before signing any contracts. Make sure that all questions and concerns are addressed and listen to other quotes from other companies before making a final decision.

This organization was the prime contractor, subbing work out to a local organization Reno Solar. From the get go this organization has not maintained sensible and accurate engineering for our solar project, which had led to multiple delays and inaccuracies within the contract itself (and leading to questions regarding the validity of our project). Finally, after 12 painful months of dealing with this organization and their atrocious level of project manager turnover (6 project managers for our project in the course of 12 months), our solar system was turned on. Since then, after being provided empty promises of compensation for not only the loan payments we'd been paying for (despite having a non-operable system), to then being told we would be compensated for time between our authorization to operate and when G3 could actually pull it together and turn the system on (again, delays due to engineering errors on their side of the project), G3 has not come forward to make good on any of those promised items. Now, they have not provided all of the appropriate project close out work and routinely dismiss my and my husband's communication with them. For any consumers considering working with them, avoid this organization at all costs. The only appropriate retribution would be to see them go out of business.

Communication was OK - could have been a bit better. It was nice to know I had someone's contact that I could always reach out to. My install still has been activated due to failing inspection and is currently being reviewed. I oftentimes had to reach out to find the status of something instead of it behind done in advance. I always got an answer which was very nice.

Our experience so far has been inconsistent. There seems to be no single point of contact that can provide clear guidance and updates on our system. We have received emails and texts from different representatives with conflicting instructions and information. We still do not know by when our system will be ready to go even though we initiated the process in May of 2022 and the panels were installed more than six weeks ago.

I'll start off saying that the end result was good. But getting there was super frustrating at many stages. The wrong equipment was delivered and I had to argue quite a bit to get there right equipment (that was stated on the contract). The install itself didn't take 1-2 days - it was protracted over several weeks, with long periods of time of G3 not having any idea when installers would come out again and keep working. And finally, commissioning the system took 2 separate visits from 2 different installers.

This company was amazing from start to finish. They delivered on their promise!! Plus the solar panels are producing just like promised and I’ve had no issue. Also the sales representative follows up with me every month to see how they are doing. Truly remarkable! I would have to say after the last post I read, G3 Solar must of hired new management !

It has taken almost 4 months from the time I signed to now and my solar is still not on. There was one problem that I needed to fix but it could have had it fixed if the people who installed the solar box had told me there was a problem with the pipe to the electrical panel. Instead it took me 3 weeks after the city inspection to get it fixed. Very frustrating. I had solar in a different state and only took one month. I missed all the savings during the summer and high heat.

G3 solar installed a beautiful ground mount system in my back yard that is producing power like crazy. It takes care of 120% of my offset and my tax incentives were huge. The sales rep was very honest and the customer support was very helpful always. I will definetly recommend G3 solar to anyone i know wanting solar.

Awful experience. June of 2022 I committed to solar and all finances in order. February 2023 they are finally producing power. 8 months to get everything complete. Nothing like making payments and not producing any power. I was also promised a reimbursement check for the payments and wad never reimbursed. Terrible company don't waste your time.

I I paid this company $73000 and gave them many months to install before the hot weather hit. That was the whole point in buying PV. Our house is large and cooling it is expensive during July thru September. They were slow, they came by many times with incorrect parts, they made excuses, and ultimately they cost me an additional $2000 in electric bills because they couldn't finish the job on time, and we all know how hot it was this summer. After all of the broken promises and failures, they offered to compensate me a measly $300. When a company takes $73000 to do a job, and it's not worth it to them to compensate the customer for their failures, it speaks volumes to their lack of interest in customer satisfaction. On top of that, they inspected the roof and said it was fine. Then the installer showed up and said it definitely wasn't. They can't even agree within their own ranks. I don't recommend this company at all. They lack integrity.

Super slow on Install time. 3 months and still waiting. Most of my neighbors signup for solar after me and are already installed. I would never recommend this company!

Took too long, they got my attic super dirty and they cracked a part of my wall from installing the solar. Still no pigeon guard on my panels.
