Since its founding in 2016, G3 Solar has completed over 1,500 installs and 10,650 kWs in total. The company started in Utah and honed its services in the West before expanding into several other states across the country. With its instant savings estimator, prospective clients in G3 Solar markets can quickly identify if solar is something worth pursuing.

Currently, G3 Solar offers traditional solar installation services, roofing repairs and replacements (regardless of whether or not the client decides to also install a solar system), and battery/storage solutions. Clients that have utilized these services have generally expressed positive feedback online.

G3 Solar has also partnered with the Give Power Foundation. This foundation works to deliver clean water to people and in areas where it is needed the most. With every solar project that G3 Solar completes, a portion of the revenue generated is directly donated to the Give Power Foundation.

The Good

  • Quality Equipment
  • Zero-Down Financing
  • Broad Availability
  • Roof Services Offered

Quaity Equipment

Every G3 Solar project is built with top-of-the-line solar equipment, including Tier 1 solar panels from leading manufacturers like Trina and LG. Both Trina and LG rank among the best brands for home solar installation, and produce panels exceeding 20 percent energy efficiency, a rare achievement in the solar industry.

In addition to high-quality solar panels, G3 Solar uses micro inverter technology from Enphase, whose products seamlessly convert solar energy into electricity for your home at an incredibly high rate. Enphase inverters also come with industry-leading monitoring software accessible from any mobile device, so homeowners can know exactly how well their solar system is performing, or can contact G3 directly if output is negatively affected in any way.

G3 Solar also installs solar energy storage solutions in the form of the LG Chem solar battery. A solar battery supplements any existing solar panel system by harnessing excess solar energy that can be used at the homeowners discretion. Applications include nighttime use, emergency situations, or electric vehicle charging.

Zero-Down Financing

For customers who are unable to finance their solar power system directly, G3 Solar offers a path to ownership through zero-down loan financing. That means qualifying homeowners can receive a third-party home energy loan, pay nothing upfront, and still qualify for state rebates and the Federal Solar Tax Credit.

Broad Availability

G3 Solar is available in the following US states:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Idaho
  • Nevada
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Utah

While the relative size of a solar company's service area is not always a direct indicator of its success, the fact that G3 Solar has maintained operations across such a wide swath of states suggests the solar provide is earning enough business to justify its presence so far from its home base in Utah. Readers are encouraged to read verified G3 Solar reviews in their home state to see how the company compares to other solar installers.

Roof Services Offered

Solar systems are designed to effectively produce energy for 25 to 30 years, depending on a number of factors. That being said, some systems produce clean and renewable energy for over 30 years. In these instances, the roof will often need work done before the actual system will need to be replaced. The average residential roof has a lifespan of 20 years. Obviously some last longer and some need to be replaced before the 20 years is up.

Knowing that the solar system has the potential to outlast the roof, G3 Solar offers roofing services. Many solar companies will ask clients to seek out roof repair or replacement prior to the system being installed. G3 handles that for interested clients, streamlining the entire process.

The Bad

  • No NABCEP Certification
  • No Lease or PPA Options
  • Undisclosed Warranty Terms

No NABCEP Certification

G3 Solar does not appear to be certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). The NABCEP is responsible for some of the most advanced solar technician training programs in the country. Solar installers with NABCEP-certified status have met rigorous industry standards and employ technicians with a proven track record of expertise.

While the lack of certification is not judgment against the quality or service of any given solar company, its presence can aid homeowners who are comparing multiple providers in their area.

No Lease or PPA Options

G3 Solar does not offer homeowners solar leases or power purchase agreements (PPA) as a means of switching to solar power. These options act as rental agreements between the homeowner and the installing company and come with low-fixed rates and zero upfront investments. All installation and maintenance fees are also the responsibility of the company.

That said, the financing options G3 Solar does provide (i.e. direct purchase and solar loans) provide the greatest return on investment, and qualify homeowners for all sort of rebates, credits, and other discounts.

Undisclosed Warranty Terms

While G3 Solar does explicitly mention offering both workmanship and roof penetration warranties, specific warranty details could not be found. These include warranty lengths, along with what qualifies as a valid warranty claim. Leading solar providers warranty their workmanship for up to 25 years, and their roof work for up to 10.

The Bottom Line

With G3 Solar, residential property owners can become increasingly energy independent. All equipment installed by G3 Solar is classified as tier-1, meaning it is some of the best the solar market has to offer. Since its founding, G3 Solar has gradually expanded its operation and now offers solar solutions and installation in seven states across the country. Due to the lifetime of a solar system, G3 Solar recognizes the importance of having a high quality, new roof prior to solar system installation. G3 does not require clients to go out and get separate roofing repairs done, but instead offer roofing solutions on top of solar services.

While there are a number of high quality services offered by G3 Solar, there are some limitations to the operation as well. For starters, G3 Solar offers limited equipment warranties and no workmanship warranty on installations. The professional installation team is not NABCEP certified and G3 is focused solely on residential projects. Outside of that scope, clients will need to look elsewhere.

For residential property owners interested in having a solar system installed, G3 Solar may be a quality option but it is advised to take advantage of the free consultation part of the process before signing any contracts. Make sure that all questions and concerns are addressed and listen to other quotes from other companies before making a final decision.
