The Good

  • High-Quality Solar Equipment
  • Company Longevity
  • Additional Solar Services
  • Multiple Financing Options
  • Awards and Certifications

High-Quality Solar Equipment

AMECO Solar provides solar installation services using some of the best, most energy-efficient solar equipment money can buy. With solar panel modules from Panasonic, and Hyundai, and solar inverters from Enphase, SMA, and SolarEdge, the company has aligned itself with industry leaders.

Company Longevity

With increased competition in the solar market, and rapidly decreasing costs, the margin for error for solar companies to not only establish themselves, but build a reliable clientele is slight at best. Many solar companies either grow too fast or not fast enough and in either case go out of business. AMECO Solar has been installing solar panels in Southern California for nearly 50 years, demonstrating the company's elite-level knowledge of both its local market and the solar industry at large. Even after all these years, the company remains competitive, having installed more than 50 megawatts of clean, renewable energy since its founding.

Additional Solar Services

In addition to solar PV systems, AMECO Solar provides customers with supplementary solar devices to help them reduce their energy bill and their carbon footprint all at once:

  • Solar Pools — Solar pool heaters can dramatically reduce a homeowner’s energy bill, so much so that they end up paying for themselves after only two or three years. Professionally installed solar pool heaters can last upwards of 15 to 20 years.
  • Solar Water Heaters — Solar water heaters require almost no maintenance once installed, and qualify for state-level warranties that can reduce the upfront costs of the solar panel system by 50 to 60 percent.
  • Solar EV Charging Stations — A solar EV charging station can increase home value and triple energy savings, not to mention save on the thousands of dollars in gas California drivers spend each year.

Multiple Financing Options

AMECO Solar provides customers with a variety of financing options to help them make the switch to solar. In addition to direct purchase, the company offers the following options:

  • Solar Loan — A solar loan requires zero money upfront, qualifies homeowners for both federal-level and state-level tax credits, and will translate to long-term savings over the 25-year life of the solar energy system.
  • Solar Lease — Solar leases are a cost-effective way to go solar without paying tens of thousands of dollars upfront; homeowners effectively rent the system for a low monthly fee, and the burden of ownership (installation and maintenance costs) lies squarely with the installation company.
  • Solar PPA — A power purchase agreement works much like a solar loan, only the homeowner will pay monthly for the power the system produces, often at a lower rate than their monthly utility bill.

Awards and Certifications

AMECO Solar has been the recipient of numerous awards and certifications within the solar industry. The company has been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), considered the gold standard for exams that promote best practices and industry standards in solar.

AMECO Solar was also a recipient of Solar Power World magazine’s “Top 500 Solar Contractors” list every year between 2012 and 2016. This distinction is awarded to local companies that have made a significant impact in their communities in terms of the amount of solar energy they’ve installed.

The Bad

  • California-Only Installer

California-Only Installer

Unfortunately, AMECO Solar’s services are limited to California. And while the company has been around for decades, it still operates in a highly competitive field. Promoting verified AMECO Solar reviews can be an effective way for the company to stand out from the crowd.

The Bottom Line

AMECO Solar has been in business since the 1970s for a reason: it provides quality solar panel installations and holds all the necessary certifications and industry partnerships needed to help it build systems that last. New customers are strongly encouraged to obtain a free estimate from the company; existing customers are encouraged to leave a review, and share their experience with AMECO Solar.

I signed a solar panel installation contract with Ameco Solar in the end of October 2019. According to the contract Ameco had to get all permits and approvals by the mid of December 2019. I planned to install panels by the end of 2019 to get 30% of the Federal incentive. Whole November I emailed them asking if everything is fine and smooth. I did that because I did not feel any activities. Often they did not reply, but when they did they confirmed that everything is good and no reasons not to have panels installed by the end of 2019. In the mid of December when they passed a deadline I asked them again. It turned out that they forgot that I live in HOA area and they have to get an approval from HOA. Also it turned out that they didn't have a city approval. They started promised me that very very soon it will be ready. It was clear for all of us that panels won't be installed in 2019 at least because there was no chance to get HOA approval in Christmas period. I asked them in the end of 2019 that due to the contract breach I want to break the contract and please return my $1000 deposit. And even at that moment (2 weeks after the deadline) they did not get the city approval. They said that since they did some job (drawings) they can't return me my deposit even in case of they breached the contract! I prepared documents to file a small claim and in the end of the January they informed me that they got all approvals, let's proceed. The end of the January, 7 weeks later!!! They had a few attempts to submit drawings but looks like the city returned them papers, though my project is super simple. Right at this moment I notified them that I will sew them and only that helped to get my $1000 back. Amazing! Everyone can fail, but after you failed you can still try to resolve a conflict well. But not Ameco Solar! No one can return me my my time and loss of 4% Federal incentive difference.

My system completely stopped working, and they have failed to provide any service. They do not return calls. When I have reached them, they promise to call back but never do. They cited their long history in the industry as a selling point promising reliable service, but they have not lived up to that at all.
