The Good

  • Services
  • Easy Online Legal Document Creation
  • Variety of Packages
  • Client Support
  • Education Resources
  • Money-Back Guarantee

Services

LawDepot offers online legal documents for business, personal, financial, estate planning, and real estate needs. This includes living wills, health care directives, lease agreements, eviction notices, promissory notes, confidentiality agreements, corporation operating agreements, prenuptial agreement forms, separation agreement, and more. LawDepot provides its users with step-by-step instructions when using its service to ensure accuracy.

Easy Online Legal Document Creation

A team of lawyers at LawDepot has developed an extensive library of online legal forms. To get started, you will first be asked what state you are in and then a series of questions where you will either answer the questions by filling in the blanks, clicking a bubble, or by checking a box. It takes your answers and puts them into the appropriate portions of the document where you can then open, save, print, share, or edit the document. This do-it-yourself legal forms process makes creating legal documents an easy task.

Variety of Packages

LawDepot offers several different pricing options including yearly or monthly subscriptions, a pay per document option, and a seven-day free trial. An account is free to create.

  • The yearly pre-paid subscription costs $7.99 per month and includes unlimited document creation and printing.
  • The monthly subscription costs $33 per month and also includes unlimited document creation and printing. It can be canceled at any time.
  • The a la carte option can cost $10-$49 depending on the document type and amount of time you have access to the document.

Client Support

If you have questions or need assistance, you can contact LawDepot through email, the live online chat feature, the help center, or the 855-number. Phone support is available Monday through Friday, 8 am to 7 pm ET. The online help center offers answers to many frequently asked questions. These contact options are featured in the header of the site under the "Help" tab.

Education Resources

Not everyone has the same understanding as a lawyer or attorney. If you are looking for more information about legal topics in general, LawDepot has a great blog that covers topics such as real estate, business, personal, family, and finance. LawDepot has taken the time to explain each document and the importance of it as well as who should be using these specific kinds of documents. If looking at FAQs is your preferred method for finding information then LawDepot will work for you. They offer detailed FAQ sections that will most likely answer all of your questions.

Money-Back Guarantee

LawDepot also offers a satisfaction guarantee. If a customer isn't satisfied with their document then they will be refunded within 50 days. In addition, LawDepot offers $10,000 to any customers that suffer damages from mistakes due to company errors on documents.

The Bad

  • Monthly Price
  • Lack of Legal Information
  • Questions Regarding Accuracy

Monthly Price

If you prepay for a whole year of LawDepot's services it will end up costing you only $7.99 per month, one of the lowest prices in the industry. If you want to do the free trial and let the plan roll over then you will end up paying $33.00 per month. Some competitors offer lower prices for month-to-month or six-month subscriptions.

Lack of Legal Information

LawDepot features a Law Library that includes FAQs and articles pertaining to some common legal processes, however, the information is brief and not detailed. It may not provide all the information you need if you have complicated questions or extensive legal needs. Furthermore, the company does not offer any legal advice or support.

Questions Regarding Accuracy

As with many of the other online legal services, LawDepot does not mention whether their documents are fully reviewed by lawyers for up-to-date accuracy, nor does it explain how attorneys in their network are screened and approved. This means that it may be difficult to ensure that the documents you receive from LawDepot are accurate and high quality. However, LawDepot offers a $10,000 legal guarantee that will cover any damages received because of a mistake a document the customer obtained from LawDepot.

gavel

The Bottom Line

LawDepot is not a law firm. If you are comfortable reviewing and filing your own documents without the close guidance of a lawyer, LawDepot is an easy-to-use platform for obtaining and customizing those documents. If you have ongoing legal needs or expect to need several different documents, the unlimited access you gain by signing up for the monthly or annual packages will likely save you money. However, if you'd like to guarantee personal access to a quality attorney you may prefer to opt into websites that include personal legal advice as part of their service subscription.

Awful experience, they are clearly making money out of they're supposed to be "7 days free trial". I took the subscritption for the free 7days period on their website, during the 7days I remember having cancelled the service online but during 2 month those swindlers still took money from my bank account. When I called customer service they said they can't see that I've canceled my subscription (obviously I didn't had any proof) and that they won't reimburse even if I never connected on ther website after the trial. This is the first time I'm beeing robbed like this, stay away unless you want to give them free money

0 stars. I, along with COUNTLESS others fell victim to this predator of a “business”. After the free trial, no follow up emails ensued to remind the consumer of their purchase which would allow for cancellation. NOR were there follow up emails asking about consumer experience or satisfaction levels. It was as if this shady business counts upon the fact that we as humans have more things on our minds than to cancel a meaningless subscription. Especially if they do their due diligence in remaining sparce and not communicating with “clients”. If the owners look into my account usage, they’ll see that in the last 10 MONTHS, it would total to a whopping ZERO. So I have spent 330$ of my hard earned money, towards a corrupt company.

Hello,

To clarify, our trial offer is free for a one-week period. During that time, you can create, download and print as many documents as you need. You can cancel at any time and there is no obligation. You simply need to cancel the subscription by requesting the cancellation under Your Account or accessing live chat or phone and we'll cancel it for you within the seven-day window. You also receive an email recapping the offer details and the date and time to cancel by appearing in the email. All of this information was given to you so you would have an informed decision about your purchase. Since you have not cancelled the subscription within your 7 day Free Trial window, therefore the charges on your card. Charges were also showing in your bank statement monthly which should also have been rectified if you had reached out to us than letting it go past 10 months. The fees are not based on usage. It is based on access at any time to create a document.

Thank you for your feedback. We will continue to work on our site to improve all areas of service.

I have nothing to add here that everyone else has not already said. Bait and switch 7 day trial with ZERO followup monthly emails indicating they are charging you. I only noticed this 6 months in, meaning I lost $200 to this shady company. They depend upon people not realising they are being charged monthly, or forgetting about ever signing up. I wonder how many thousands of dollars have been lost because they do not communicate their monthly charges for those who signed up for the free trial. Watch them now copy/paste the same response they give everyone else who has fallen for their deceptive practice, with no apologies for not sending monthly emails that charges are being issued.

I used their site for a school project, I hit end trial and it did not go through I guess. I didn't realize that I was still getting charged $33 a month for something I never used after that (plus an international charge fee, cause why would they tell you that up front) When I reached out, the live chat woman told me no to a refund for the first month, so I called for a manager. She wrote me off completely and told me she couldn't tell what I did or didn't do with the website, which you can see how people access your site, I know the back end of a website ma'am. Then when I said I hit end free trial, she was like we can't see that, you must've done something wrong. Just very accusative, with little help. I am thankful for the one month refund, but I obviously didn't use the site and missed that I had gotten charged. Very annoyed with this site, don't use it.

Horrible experience The goal of the site is to get you to accept an autorenewal for monthly payments in the hope that you forget to cancel it afterwards. They say so in their policy and use it as leverage to keep your money. Even if you can prove that you didn't use the service they will never give you a refund. Please note the service is managed by sharks. No regards for their customers, they will try to rip off as many people as possible instead of trying to build customer loyalty through decent service. Be careful to micro-manage your account if you go ahead with this business. They think you just have time for that, very pretentious of them. Horrible experience,

Hello Julien,

I am sorry to hear if you deemed your experience with us a horrible experience.

The Conditions were posted before you selected the monthly subscription which started of as a Trial Free for 1 week.
The site states twice that it is a 1 week Free Trial renews to a monthly fee of $33.00 after the free week. Cancel anytime within the Free week, no obligations.
An email was sent out to you confirming the service you had ordered with the date and time of the renewal to a monthly subscription.
The email also includes the process of cancellation should you not wish to continue with the service to a monthly one.
Since the subscription was not cancelled within the free week reason for the charge on your card.

Unfortunately, no refunds will be processed for a Trial Subscription that has gone to a monthly service.

We appreciate your feedback.

150 lighter due to card charges dating back months from this company due to a subscription I opted out of the same day I used it- absolute daylight robbery and I used one document. This scam company rely on your card details when you sign up so they can continue to take £29 a month for a service you used once in a day! I have only just noticed 6 months on - I feel sick 🤒 I did cancel the same day I used the service and your terms and conditions state the following: *We will refund subscriptions up to the value of £100.00 *Each document costs a maximum of £39.00 The footprint on this site shows I visited one time in August, yet you took the following payments £29.00 August September October November December = £145 for a document worth £39.00 How can it be £5.00 per month subscription yet £29.00 a month if you don't cancel the same week you start it? I suggest your "cancel" button failed me and you rely on this to build your equity to make your business profitable. I also want to know why you can retain a persons card details and not provide them with a receipt to their registered email so I would have seen this sooner! So I have paid over £100 for a document worth £39.00 I will be seeking legal advice on this as well as reporting you to your local trading standards office, just because it's legal does not make it any less of a scam - it's scandalous and disgusting! How do you people sleep at night.

Hello Kate,

Our records show that you initially signed up for a 7 day Free Trial Subscription.
As stated on the website twice, renews to a monthly fee of 29.00 GBP after trial ends.
We also sent you an email of the date and time to cancel by.
All of these information were given to you so you would have an informed decision of your purchase. Since there has been no cancellation on file within the trial period, therefore the charge on your card.

Your subscription has been cancelled on Dec 14, 2020.
A 29.00 GBP courtesy refund will be processed within 5 business days.

My initial search for a bill of sale was less than useful as I could not print the document. I realize now that once I entered my credit card information for my 'free trial' I should have cancelled immediately. Since I did not receive any emails I did not think to cancel. Once I saw the charge I called and cancelled and was told that a confirmation had been sent. When I did not receive said email I called back and before I could explain why I was calling your rep hung up! I called again, explained the situation and the confirmation arrived immediately. I found the entire experience poorly handled. Your customer service reps must get a lot of complaints or they have not had adequate training or both!

I spent $51 to get an error page then be told by support that all I signed up for was a free trial, EVEN though I have the information to prove I bought the product. I am going to have to do a charge back to get my money which I was hoping not to do. $50 may not be a big amount to you but it is big enough to affect my lifestyle at the moment. I am really angry with the service provided so far. My file was just skimmed and then I am argued with that I didn't spend the money and I might've spent the money elsewhere, meanwhile I attached a screenshot to the case that specifically states "LawDepot" and showed up IMMEDIATELY after I attempted to push the payment through and ended up on the error page. I get immediate payment notifications as well. Beyond disappointed. If I could give less than a start I would.

I came here to warn others and noticed 7 other reviews stating the same thing. There is something sneaky about the way this company signs up customers under the guise of a 'free trial' only to discover we are being billed automatically. I missed it and clearly I'm not the only one. You need to make it clearer when signing up customers for your so called 'free trial' that we are getting charged after 1 week. I see the responses from each complaint and I don't think it's good enough. The document I need was helpful but I have to admit I now feel scammed and will never use this site again or ever recommend it.

Hello Hilda,

I am sorry for the confusion we do state twice through the checkout process that it is a 1 Week Free Trail and will be $33/month after the trial ends. You can cancel anytime with on obligations
When we ask for a credit card there is a green box on the side stating if its free why are you asking for a credit card. We once again explain if you do not cancel it will automatically enroll you in a monthly subscription at $33/month. You can cancel anytime with on obligations
We then print the date and time to cancel your account on the bottom of your receipt. We also immediately send out an email recapping the offer details and in bold print letting you know the date and time cancel. We also include the link to click on to cancel and customer services number if there is any issues.

Horrible company. I paid them for a document then I discovered three months later that they were billing my credit card monthly for a 33.00 fee. When I called them they indignantly told me that it was my fault for not canceling a monthly subscription. I informed them that I understood at the time that I had paid them for a one time service and I had no idea that they were going to keep charging me every month. The lady on the phone said she was too busy to deal with this, she would close my account and it was just tough that I did not know about the recurring monthly charge. She flat out refused to reimburse what they had charged.

One of those websites that scams you with their "free trial" and then gets you on their monthly subscription plan WITH NO SIGN OF IT. Only a sign-up email. They will tell you it was stated in the agreement and that it's your fault because you should have checked your statement, but there's something funny about this company. I've never experienced that before. They have a 118 return policy to save them from returning all your money when you realize that $33 is being taken from your account every month. I lost $429 to this company and they did absolutely nothing for me. I printed a free document with my trial on the first day, never logged in since and they still hit me with that sorry response. They were only willing to give me 4 out of 13 months worth of my money back. I hate companies that thrive on this sort of business model. Shady written all over it.

Hello,

I am sorry for the misunderstanding but our website does clearly state that we offered you a Trial Subscription. This trial stated that it was free for 1 week and would be $33/month after the trail ends and that it is your responsibility to cancel the trial.
We do inform you of this twice thought the check out process. The date and time to cancel your account is on the receipt for you to print out. We immediately you out an email stating the date and time to cancel to your email address. We follow that up with a second email on the 8th day after your trial ends to let you know that you now have a full account with us. Our phone number prints besides the charge on your statement every month and you can contact us at anytime.

It is utterly ridiculous to believe "do-it-yourself" forms can replace or reduce your need for actual legal advice. FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a family law lawyer with 25 years experience. To think that clients are led to believe they can prepare their own separation agreements and just get a lawyer to "sign off" is appalling and completely m,misrepresents what the process of family law and separation is all about. I strongly urge people to please please please consider investing in quality legal representation to prepare such an important agreement. Any decent lawyer will charge pretty much the same fee to give legal advice on a do-it-yourself document anyway. Just let the pro do it. You are way better off.

Just got off the phone with costumer support. Not a friendly bunch, it was hard to cancel the service and replace it with a year subscription. I been charged for two years monthly payment instead of the yearly subscription. The charge was $40 per month every month instead of $107 per year. Ask for a refund but the manager was not willing do anything better than last month only. Disappointed and will let my other colleagues that have recommend the service to stop using it.

Hello Marcin,

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience. It sounds like you have selected the Monthly Subscription for $40.95 per month until you cancel. I understand you want to upgrade to the Annual Service. However, we are not able to refund all charges of your Monthly Service for the last two years to compensate for your upgrade. The Annual Subscription and the Monthly Subscription are two different services. The Subscription options were posted on the license selection page and you were given the chance to select whichever works for you when you first signed up. If you say that you mistakenly selected the Monthly subscription, the monthly fees show in your bank statement and could have upgraded to the Annual Subscription before the charges reached two years.

A courtesy refund of $40.95 was processed. It should post back to your account in 5 business days. No further refunds will be processed.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for using LawDepot.

If they think that their product is so great and that they have the BEST COMPANY then why not allow a little more time for us to figure things out? I would have given zero star, if possible. I had not signed in or used this site, and yet when I emailed LawDepot to ask for the refund and cancellation of services they refused. I was not even sent an email that they are renewing the monthly subscription, I noticed it on my VISA statement. Sneaky in my opinion, not to mention that I CANCELLED and it did not get processed. She is condescending, doesn't listen to you, thinks she knows best, talks over you, has the tone of a kindergarten teacher speaking to the students, LIES about what you said on the phone call, and will NOT stop emailing me even though I have requested multiple times for this lady to STOP EMAILING ME. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY AND THEIR FREE TRIAL I canceled this before the free trial was over. I found the service to be substandard and not very useful. I subsequently found 2 charges on my bank statement. I had been charged despite canceling. I contacted the company requesting a refund. Not a very good experience with them. They are quick to charge your credit card but when you request a simple form such as an employment application for future employment with the company they give you the run around. Here is the standard reply they give you. As stated, LawDepot is constantly updating our document options, so please visit us again in the future for your legal needs. We have the Employment Contract, just not the Application.

This website has been very difficult to use and will not recommend it to my business community. After completing my Lease Agreement, I found it necessary to edit several items. Monica was of no help to me as she insisted that I first describe to her each modification I made which would have been impossible for me to do. She sent me an email and abruptly ended our conversation before I received any assistance. My document is not professionally formatted and unusable. Your customer service is also not professional and usable.

Hello Julie,

I am sorry if you had difficulty using our site and for the bad experience. For changes to your answers, you can simply go back to the questionnaire and edit it from there. Ensure you accurately complete all the necessary fields. Once completed, it is a legal document. The answers you select and how you edit the document can potentially affect whether the form is legally enforceable and valid.

These folks have been charging me months & I have used their services once on the free trial. They should be able to give customer’s refund and have ways of tracking customer if their web site was used or not. Instead they argue with you saying I should be able to cancel my subscription. Last time I will be using free trials to trick you in so they can charge you for the rest of your lives if you don’t cancel.Very rude Customer support never game me a chance to explain.

Hello Carolina, I am sorry for the confusion we do state twice through the checkout process that it is a 1 Week Free Trail and will be $33/month after the trial ends. You can cancel anytime with on obligations When we ask for a credit card there is a green box on the side stating if its free why are you asking for a credit card. We once again explain if you do not cancel it will automatically enroll you in a monthly subscription at $33/month. You can cancel anytime with on obligations We then print the date and time to cancel your account on the bottom of your receipt. We also immediately send out an email recapping the offer details and in bold print letting you know the date and time cancel. We also include the link to click on to cancel and customer services number if there is any issues. Regards, Cynthia Customer Support Manager

I give them on star because of their bait and switch marketing. They say you can create a FREE will but after you spend the time to create, you have to pay to actually download it. This is click-bait marketing essentially, is unethical and dirty. I wasted my time with them so now I'll invest a little more to expose the con company LawDepot. If they lie to get your business, do you think their products are worthy? Here's a tip... don't do any business with liars.

Valuable legal documents, but like everybody else has written on here they give you VERY LITTLE indication that they will be charging you after you sign up. I thought I entered my credit card information so that I could purchase the ONE legal document I printed off on my first day, turns out in the fine print of one email that was sent to my junk folder, did they inform me my trial would end in one week. The title of the website itself says "FREE LEGAL DOCUMENTS". DO NOT use this website, or at least make sure they're not charging you and cancel your free subscription right away.

This is just another one of those online scams! Purchase anything, even a one time purchase of a form, and they bill your card every month!!! I purchased a one time form, used my biz bank card right before we switched banks, and I come to find out that they kept hitting the account with fees, every month, each time racking up bank charges in our former account where we had not left a lot of funds after the switch! If only these places did business honorably they would still make their money, instead of trickery and robbing people with ‘subscriptions’ we don’t want or need!!!

The worst customer service i had the representative named Patricia which i actually called back to get her name she would not provide her name stated she don’t have based on my experience as a representative the only thing you don’t provide to a customer is your last name but name and Id is required. She laughed when i was talking to her and disconnected while i am talking. Call back got her again asked for a supervisor she refused and started yelling and disconnected again.

The customer service from this company is disappointing!!!!! There is a representative by the name of Casandra that was unwilling to work with me, as a concerned consumer. I had to ask for her name no less than 5 times and she would not give it to me. Flat out told me, I was wrong and there was nothing she could do about it. No problem solving or customer service skills what so ever! Extremely frustrating! I would look elsewhere when considering a legal document company.

I was disappointed that I could not save my business plan. I had it hand written and it still took 30min to complete. Unless the only thing you have is a name, they do not have a 10 minute option. Commend them for their capitalism, but they are neither easy, courteous nor helpful. Do not waste your time on this service, but do go to your local library, SCORE, SBDC or SBA office. Good luck in all your ventures and luck favors the prepared and hard working.

Hello Andrew,

I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on our site.

Our records indicate you initially signed up for a 7 day Free Trial Subscription on Aug 20, 2020.
As stated on the site twice, renews to a monthly fee of 29.00 GBP after the Free Trial week ends.
We sent you an email regarding your subscription including the date and time to cancel by and the process to cancel. Another email was also sent when your subscription has converted to a monthly service. All of these information were given to you so you would have an informed decision about your purchase.

Your subscription has only been Cancelled on 17 December 2020 05:23 PM which is 4 months after your Free Trial week is over.

There are 3 ways of contacting us. Through phone at 0800 014 8912 Mon-Fri 1pm - 10pm,
chat or email. I am not sure as to why you only got a radio silence when there are Customer Representatives who are always available to answer your call during support hours. There is no record that you had tried to reach out to us regarding your account.

A 4 months courtesy refund of 29.00 GBP per month has been approved and will post back to your account in 5 business days. Please check your inbox or spam folder for the confirmation email.

You would think as "legal help" they could at least be truthful, but alas they are true scam artists. It is the old scam of "free" documents; you cant cancel today but you have to cancel at specific time in the future or you will be billed into perpetuity. Deceptive practices at best. NOT 100% Free forms. They have you go through the whole form and THEN tell you all that info you just entered was a waste if you don't give them your CC info. DO NOT use this site if you think it's free in any way, shape or form. Scam

When you enter your credit card information we again tell you that it is free for 1 week it will be $33/month after the trial end and you must cancel.

We tell you the date and time to cancel at the bottom of your receipt, we also sent you an email right after you signed up with the date and time and how to cancel your account.

Please note that the trial period is specific down to the hour of the day. For example, if you signed up for the trial offer on July 10th at 10am, you have until the seventh day at 10am to cancel the offer.
