First American has been providing home warranties since 1984. The home warranty service provider offers coverage to 38 states plus the District of Columbia. Comprehensive Plans

First American Home Warranty currently offers two coverage plans and a variety of additional options for warranty coverage. The monthly cost for a First American Home Warranty plan starts at $28 per month and lasts for one year. The service fee varies by location, but you will typically pay $75 whenever you schedule a repair or replacement with a First American Home Warranty technician. Warranty plan holders can upgrade or expand their warranty plan within the first 30 days of coverage to add on additional systems or appliances.

First American also offers a 30-day review period for new warranty contract holders. Customizable plans are made for homeowners, real estate professionals, as well as network service providers. First American Home Warranty's website allows anyone to receive a sample contract and specific residential warranty pricing within minutes.

First American Home Warranty does not have an age limit on systems and appliances, so you don't have to worry about the company refusing coverage based on this. Warranty coverage for major appliances and systems is as follows (pricing and coverage for protection plans may vary by location):

Coverage Limits

Unlike some home warranty providers, most of First American’s covered items do not carry a specific dollar limit. First American plans do not require a home inspection to be done by a contractor or maintenance records to be retrieved from a repair person for coverage. The service provider also offers extra protection for malfunctions due to lack of maintenance, regular wear and tear, rust, corrosion, and sedimentary build-up. There are no age limits on covered items, and no limit to the number of claims a customer can file.

24/7 Claims Service

No matter the time of day, customers can open a claim. First American offers a 24/7 service request hotline where you can make service calls at any time as well as a user-friendly online customer portal. First American has a nationwide network of workers and prescreens every service contractor and requires them to complete a probationary period to ensure customer satisfaction standards are met through customer survey results.

Online Homeowner Center

First American offers an easy-to-use online homeowner center for all of its customers. From this portal, a customer can open and track their claims, view their contract details, renew their home warranty, and manage communication preferences.

First American provides coverage in 38 states and the District of Columbia. There is a tool on its website that allows for a zip code lookup to determine if First American provides coverage for customers in a particular state. Unfortunately, if you are out of First American’s coverage area, you are unable to receive its services.

I call customer support a lot and I am always able to talk to somebody and they try to at least help with our problems. Most of our issues have been taken care of quickly except the heating and dishwasher took a long time. It took a month to get the dishwasher done and I think it could have been much quicker but every time I called First American, they were very helpful and tried to get it moving. I think there should be quicker communication and they should check in with their customers to see where the contractors are.

It was in the closing paperwork for my house and I have kept it up past the year in case there is something wrong. If something is wrong, I can go online and order it and they fix the problem. They did everything they needed to do and kept me informed by calling. When I used the warranty on the garbage disposal, they sent a plumber and he fixed it. They come promptly, by the next day, and it works out. The plumbing service they sent when the garbage disposal wasn't working was friendly and showed my son how to fix it if it happened again, which was really good.

Having an older house makes having a home warranty a must. I don't know how we would have paid for some of the repairs that we've needed over the years if they hadn't been covered. We have peace of mind knowing that we are protected from catastrophic damage and repairs. Well worth the investment. Occasionally we have to call more than once to get a technician scheduled, but that is really a problem with individual companies and not the fault of First American. Customer service has been wonderful. I don't think we could live in our house without them. We were not solicited for our business. I researched the best coverage and called them. No phone calls or emails asking us to increase coverage or buy other products. We truly could not be happier.

I wish I could give this company zero stars. The fridge that came with the house broke three weeks after we moved in. They reacted quickly at first to get a repair man out who gave an incorrect diagnosis of the problem (he said a thunderstorm caused the fridge compressor to fail, but there were no storms in our area). The company was very hostile in emails when we debated the report (which was never sent to us), and said it was our fault for not properly maintaining the fridge.... that we've owned for three weeks. About two weeks later we finally get another repairman out to correctly diagnose the fridge issue, only for this company to halt all progress again because we moved the fridge to the garage. I'm 6 months pregnant and on a very strict diet that requires a fridge - which is a point I clarified several times to no avail. This is a major scam with terrible customer service. Avoid at all costs!!

If I could give them no stars I would. I live in Atlanta and have had no A/C for almost two weeks during a record breaking heat wave. I called First American the first day the A/C stop working and flooded my basement. They assigned me a contractor that took three days to call me. I tried to call them in that time frame but could not get a hold of them. We set up a appointment for them to come look at my A/C unit between 8-10AM needless to say they finally got to my house at 1:30-2 was there for 15min said I was only low in Freon (4lbs) and it was fixed which I said I do not believe that is the only thing wrong if it needed 4lbs of Freon plus why did my basement flood. He said "that is all he was authorized to do that he work for First American and would have to get with them" But he never even looked to see what was really wrong. Needless to say A/C worked for three hours then was blowing warm air and basement was flooded again. I tried to call the serviceman but he would not answer or return my phone calls. I called First American and they said they had to wait to get the report from them and they had 48 hours. Well that was Friday of Memorial Day Weekend so needless to say they would not do anything until Tuesday which they still would not get me a new contractor they said they had to send it to the contract relations and they would try to reach the 1st contractor and the contractor had 24 hours to respond. Well that time limit should have been up when I called the next day but they said they still had a few hours so I waited and called back now over 2 day since that 24 hour time frame and they are still telling me they are waiting to get the report from the contractor and nobody can do anything for me until contract relations says they can not give me a number for that department because they do not take phone calls. I ask to talk with the manager of customer service department and they are not working that day. So now it has been 10 day with out our A/C unit working in 90+ degree heat and nothing is being done. You get the run around and lied to when you call. there is no one to talk to get a resolution. This is a awful company do not use. I am making sure everyone I know in real estate knows not to let their clients get this home warranty.

Horrible customer service! They do not return emails or calls, only way to get a hold of them is wait on hold forever to get someone that just tries to get you off the phone. I have an attic fan that I placed a claim on roughly 45 days ago and still can not get first american to get a contractor to come out. Every time I call to follow up there is a different excuse, they sure take my money on time though. I would HATE to depend on this company if it were something important broken.

They've done a pretty good job. I have had a couple of instances where I've used it for the pool and spa. We called First American to come and check it out and they sent a contractor over. The first time I wasn't very happy because the contractor didn't return the call within three days and it was an emergency as far as I was concerned. The hot water heater went out on one but the other two times have been good.

They did their job and they did it quickly. When our stove went out, they had to get a new one and had it done in six weeks.

I haven't had any issues when filing requests and stuff. I had to file a claim for my garbage disposal but then I ended up fixing the problem myself. Something else then was wrong with it and the company came and they were in and out in like 15 minutes and there were no issues. I've had a home warranty company before and I did not like them. I would call and make a claim and they would say it was covered and then they would send me a bill and say that it wasn't covered. So I didn't want to get another warranty but so far so good.

With electrical plumbing, they cover everything and that's very good. They don't give you any problems. First American Home Warranty is top notch. I would definitely recommend them to anybody. I've been a customer of theirs for the past fourteen years.

They've been responsive to my requests. Recently I had a pool pump begin to die and I called them and it was fixed within a week and replaced a brand new unit in one visit. It was a good experience. They have been responsive and quick in their service.

When we call, they get someone out here pretty quick and we've used them several times and everything's gone pretty good. We have a washing machine that was messed up and we called them out and they fixed it, but not it's messed up again and they're having to come back out again. They do everything they say they're going to do and we've been very happy with them so far. They do everything in a very timely manner and all the employees are very nice and get done what we need them to get done.

There was somebody to talk to you about a problem with the exception of after hours. First American gave me a name of a guy and they were supposed to contact me. When they didn't contact me I went ahead and called them and made arrangements for them to come out.

Sometimes they can't understand me and it's really difficult. Sometimes we have to have the contractors come back out.

They have been absolutely amazing. They were able to quickly respond to calls and the contractors that they use are absolutely fabulous. My washer went out and they went ahead and replaced it. Then my dryer died and they replaced it. And my water heater went out and they placed it. They immediately came out and they've done a lot for us. They respond quickly and their contractors respond quickly. I would recommend First American Home Warranty to almost anybody who buys a house. They're in great hands.

They've always responsed promptly to any claim we entered and the companies they have sent have all been excellent. Recently, something went out on the furnace and the people responsed within the day and they were here within another day so they had a prompt service call. The service has always been excellent.

They've been very reliable when we have a problem. They always find a solution. They understand my needs. I had some problems so I called and they send someone right away and fixed the problem. They need to be careful choosing vendors because there's some vendors out there that are not very honest.

When the first contract for a repair person did not work out, they imemdiately found another store. I had a refrigerator icemake issue where the water was going all over the inside of the freezer causing stalactites and stalagmites and First American found a vendor to come out and fix the problem but the vendor could not come out for two weeks and when I said that wasn't accetable, First American found another source immediately. They responsed immediately to the concern that I had.
