Coverage Limits

Unlike some others, most of First American’s covered items do not carry a specific dollar limit. First American plans do not require a home inspection be done by a contractor or maintenance records be retrieved from a repair person for coverage. The company also provides extra protection for malfunctions due to lack of maintenance, regular wear and tear, rust, corrosion and sedimentary build-up. There are no age limits on covered items, and no limit to the number of claims a customer can file.

No matter the time of day, customers can open a claim. First American offers a 24/7 service request hotline and a user-friendly online customer portal. The deductible is very high for each service. Sometimes it''s cheaper to call a repairman and the service call would be half that price.

Poor customer service. They take a long time to send someone out when you file a claim. For my most recent claim, it took them 6 days to get someone out to my house because they don't hire local. The electrician they sent out was unable to fix the problem. American Home Warranty refused to send someone out or refund me the service call fee. This warranty was a waste of $1,000. I would never recommend them.

This company has obviously not invested in training their employees the importance of customer service. Because of this, my wife and I have decided to cancel our warranty through them. We had an issue with the valves that come from the wall and connect to the washing machine. The valves coming from the wall busted causing water damage in our basement ceiling and ruining the tile floor (the damage is not covered, we understood that). We called and they sent a technician out a technician after a week of not being able to use the washer. The technician apparently thought he was there to coach me on how to do my own home repairs. He did not fix the leak, informed me that I needed to go to an ace or home depot, buy the parts and that it was "easy" to fix. (If I was comfortable fixing plumbing or other issues I would probably not invest in a home warranty). He said he didn't have the parts to repair it and left. Confused, I called the home warranty people, they said it was covered under the warranty and sent the same tech back out. No one informed me of this. He called while I was out running errands. He left me a message stating that he couldn't get a hold of me so he went ahead and LEFT the parts I needed on the the door steps and said "I hope you can figure it out." At this point I became frustrated and called the home warranty back. They wanted to send the SAME tech back out. I refused and stated that it was unacceptable. That the tech they sent before was incompetent and I would not allow them back. I then asked to hear what exactly i had covered. Upon review, they had not given my wife and I all we had been promised when we signed up. The "supervisor", Anthony R, said that we must have misunderstood them and that it was our fault we didn't have the coverage we thought we should of had. We told him to listen to the recording of the conversation when we signed up. My wife asked for an apology for accusing us of making the mistakes and all of the time we had wasted calling them. He refused to make an apology. He called back later just to tell us my wife had made an assumption about what was covered. I then asked him to listen to the recording of our conversation and to transfer me to his manager, he refused. At this point I became extremely upset and Anthony then hung up on me. Anthony R then later called back stating that they had made a mistake and that they would refund us the service fee and send out an emergency technician (still no apology). Sorry Anthony, but my wife and I are too far gone. We have sent in the cancelation request and will be taking our business and yearly renewal to a different company. You have lost a member for life We will also be telling all of our friends (my wife and I are young adults in our late 20s with lots of friends looking to by homes) to stay away from your company. We will also be telling our story to all of our realtor friends, asking that they not recomend you to their clients. My wife was also making calls and had a similar encounter with another customer service representative who was very rude and basically refused to transfer her to the supervisor or the cancellations department. Once he finally agreed to allow her to speak to a supervisor he put her on hold for ten minutes just to return and say no supervisors were available. He honestly didn't care that we were canceling or wanted to look for ways to help. Awful, awful company and we are just hoping to get a refund.

My air conditioner went out and their technician said the compressor would have to be replaced and it would take 14 days or longer to get a new compressor. First American Home Warranty told me they would give me a cash payout to have the work done myself. It has been two weeks and they keep giving me a different amount that is 1/3 the cost to replace the compressor. They will not give me anything in writing.

I've used this company for over 25 years and have seen a change in the past two years or so. The only thing I can say is the work gets done but IT TAKES WORK! My refrigerator has not been working since June 3rd. I have two family members with disabilities that require a refrigerator for medications. Here is how the call went. 1. Called 06/03 and after over 30 minutes in calls, transfers, push this number and that and two disconnects to start over, the agreed to send someone on an emergency bases 06/04. 2. Service call 06/04. Said they would have to order parts and someone would call back within five (5) days. Offered to find and buy the part on my own to expedite but they said it would not be covered under warranty. 3) 06/04 called to ask what I'm suppose to do without a refrigerator. I was told they would send me a check to pay TOWARD RENTING a refrigerator. I found a company and rented. 4) Called service provider to ask what was going on and was told 1st American orders the parts - not them. WAITED FOR A CALL FROM EITHER for 5 more days. I had to initiate all calls. 5) 06/11 called service provider. Was informed 1st American said they ordered parts and they had no control over when the would received or ordered. 06/12 called service provider again. 06/13 received 1 of two parts on my doorstep. Called service provider and they asked for me to check the parts. One was missing. They scheduled a return appointment for 06/17 because we received one of two parts and 1st American said both would be at our home before 06/17 appointment. 5) Called 1st American and asked when the second part would arrive. They didn't know because they could not reach supply company on the weekend but left supply company a message. I informed them we only have one part and they will be at our home Monday. In addition, I asked them where the check was for the refrigerator we rented. They said it was not APPROVED YET. Called back in 10 minutes and said it was approved but I haven't sent them proof. Really? No one told me - so, I'll send proof. They said they could not send me emails without an email address AFTER 25 YEARS PLUS of service an multiple emails to and from. I was told if the person arrived tomorrow and did not have the missing part, they would return when the part arrived on another date. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE CUSTOMER SERVICE? It's almost been a fulltime job. I don't know what's going on but for the last 2 years or so, things have drastically changed. KIND COMMENTS such as "I can understand why your frustrated" but the comment I made with the person on the phone is "1st American is consistently inconsistent." It gets done but it's a lot of work in the process.

The gentlemen that came out to do the work for me last time I didn't have any problems with. We came in and fixed the problems and job he had to do and he was gone. I think I got a call the next day or even the same day and then he was out here the next day.

First America has been really good to take care of use when we have had to call a few times. We have had to use them several times. I think our most recent was that our air conditioning had gone out and they couldn't come for a couple of days. When they were able to come, they called and got me in touch with the company.

They are right on top of it when you call. They came out and they were right on ti and had it fixed within a few days.

I had a septic system problem and they came out. Although they did not have someone that works on the septic system, I had to find somebody and I paid for it and First American reimbursed me. I like First American Home better than several of the other companies that I've had in the past and I'm more than likely to pick them up again at the end of this term.

They already got back to me within 24 hours as promised and a technician came out and did the job for less than the other competitors so I was satisfied. Last month I got an issue with the garage door breaking so they came out for that.

I've had good experiences the two times that I have used the First American Home Warranty. Just recently I had the soap sanitizer go out and they came over bringing a new sanitizer and installed it and got it back up and running with very little effort. The person that came over to fix the pool was the same one that came over last year and both times he did a good job fixing the whole filter.

Very courteous and prompt and answered any questions that I had. Our dishwasher was not draining. I called them up that day and had a technician scheduled that afternoon. Everything went smooth. He showed up on time when he was supposed to and everything worked out great.

When my A/C broke down with First American, they fixed it right away and everything and it's running great. There was one little problem though. When the guy replaced the parts up in the attic, they didn't replace the board. I'm happy with the company, it was the vendor's fault. They sent an email and said it needed to get replaced and First American acted right away and put the part on order. I get great service. They're very professional and they come out right away and service and take care of things. It works really fast. I wouldn't change the company. I had another company and when I saw your company and found out what they cover, I was ecstatic and I've been happy every since. They react really fast.

They've always been responsive. We've used it for several things. We called and they called the proper companies like plumbers or electricians or whatever. And they reschedule an appointment and they came right away so everything was good. Everything in your house is covered so everything gets taken care of.

They are right on it. They called me to take care of it. I'm surprised it was extremely fast. I called them and told them that something went out and they had someone out here the next day. First American Warranty kept me informed on what people were coming and if I could make it and it was okay. They were just very informative. I didn't have to do anything but a phone call to let him know. Just keep doing what you're doing. Excellent customer service and it's well worth the fees for the policy.

They actually answer the phone in a timely manner. The fan that was not working so they ordered the part. And it took a little longer because the staffing was sick and they had to reorder the part because it was faulty. It took a little longer than we had anticipated. But I was impressed that they kept calling back and checking in with me because other warranty companies do not do that.

We've had First American Home Warranty for almost fourteen years when we bought our home. We really enjoyed their service and continue with it. They've always been there. They are good people to help you and they get the job done. About two or three weeks ago our kitchen sink backed up and I called them and they were out the next morning and within fifteen minutes it was unlocked. The company they used was very nice and we haven't had a problem since.

Everyone has been very good about getting a repair person here in a timely manner. I've been happy with the people that they send to do the repairs. I needed a dishwasher repair and they ordered the parts and repaired it. It works fine now. I've been happy with the service we've had. They have really good follow up in their service. I've used it twice. The garage door opener wasn't working so they rectified that. The dryer wasn't working but there's nothing wrong with it. It might be user error but we are going to rely on what the technician said.
