Extensive Coverage Options

Blue Ribbon Home Warranty offers three home warranty plans, providing extensive coverage for your major home appliances and systems:

  • Silver Plan
  • Gold Plan
  • Platinum Plan

Here’s how the three plans compare:

Silver Plan Coverage

  • Heating system
  • Plumbing system
  • Ductwork
  • Water heater
  • Electrical system
  • Sump pump
  • Built-in whirpool tub
  • Garage door opener
  • Central vacuum
  • Kitchen/bathroom exhaust fans
  • Refrigerator
  • Oven/range
  • Oven/range microwave
  • Dishwasher
  • Garbage disposal
  • Trash compactor

Gold Plan Coverage

The Gold Plan includes coverage for everything in the Silver Plan and adds coverage for central air conditioning.

Platinum Plan Coverage

The Platinum Plan includes coverage for everything in the Silver Plan and adds coverage for washers and dryers, doorbells, and a second garage door opener.

In addition to the three plans above, Blue Ribbon also offers the following add-on coverage options, allowing you to customize your plan to your specific needs:

  • Gas fireplace
  • Built-in double wall oven
  • Septic tank
  • Well
  • Septic tank
  • Sewage ejector pump
  • Pool
  • Hot tub
  • Pool and hot tub combo
  • Roof leaks

Customizable Coverage Terms

Customers are able to customize their coverage based on their needs. Coverage terms start at 14 months and can be as long as 10 years. This flexibility allows homeowners or property managers to purchase coverage for what they need and for the term that is needed, rather than needing to annually remember to renew coverage.

File Claims Online

When an appliance or system breaks in your home, you can easily file a claim online through the Blue Ribbon Home Warranty website. To file a claim online, you will need to submit your personal contact information, your contract number, and details about the item in need of service, including brand, model, and a description of the problem.

If you prefer, you can also call and submit a claim over the phone.

24/7 Customer Service

Blue Ribbon Home Warranty has 24-hour customer service, allowing you to request service, get answers to any questions, and review your contract at any time.

Trusted Track Record

Blue Ribbon Home Warranty has been offering its services for 30 years, which gives warranty holders peace of mind, knowing that the company has a track record and will not disappear overnight, leaving their home uncovered.

Transparent Terms and Conditions

Blue Ribbon Home Warranty is extremely transparent with its coverage and terms of contract, allowing customers to fully research the company before purchasing a policy, knowing exactly what is covered and any exclusions. The company offers three tiers of service, with optional add-ons, making it easy for prospective customers to customize their coverage.

The Bad

  • Coverage Limited to Colorado
  • Lack of Information Online for Property Managers
  • Silver Plan Lacks Coverage for All HVAC System Components

Coverage Limited to Colorado Properties Only

Unfortunately, currently having a geographic coverage area of only one state excludes the majority of prospective warranty holders in the United States from purchasing a home warranty product from Blue Ribbon Home Warranty.

Lack of Information Online for Property Managers

It's difficult for property managers of multi-unit housing to find pricing information online. They need to speak with a company representative directly in order to receive a price quote.

Silver Plan Lacks Coverage for All Components of the HVAC System

The company's lowest coverage package (Silver) doesn't offer automatic coverage for the home's cooling system (A/C, evaporative cooler, whole house fan, or heat pump), which is a major component of the home. This is often expensive to repair or replace. It's important to note that the heating system is covered, with the above exclusions.

The Bottom Line

For residents of Colorado, Blue Ribbon Home Warranty is a solid choice. The company maintains significant online transparency and has been in business for over 30 years. Its customer service is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and calls are never sent through a call center, ensuring that customers receive prompt and personalized attention when they are facing a claim.

dishwasher is broken. imediately goes into pause mode and will not run. technician came out to service, after we paid the initial $65 co-pay. says yes, it doesn't work, but blue ribbon will not pay to repair or replace. waste of money, they do not do what they claim. UPDATE 03/12/2021: After fighting with Blue Ribbon via BBB complaint and social media review posts, they finally sent out a different service company. That service company Patriot Mechanical found the the door latch that the first service company MR Appliance Repair installed, did not install the latch correctly and the door kept popping open. In addition the 2nd company Patriot Mechanical also discovered the door seal was installed backward forcing the door open also. Once Patriot corrected the door latch and the door seal the unit now operates correctly. Thank you Blue Ribbon for stepping up your responsibilities and performing the service you sell. I just wish it did not have to take so much effort!

This company is a scam. We paid over $700 for the Platinum Plan, only to find out today that it does not cover the garbage disposal that broke down, a refrigerator shelf that broke down. The Platinum plan states that it covers Preventative Maintenance check and cleaning, but the lady I just spoke to, said that I will have to pay $55 per each item (!!!) they have to check - - not per visit (!!!). What a rip off. I am so glad we did not renew it, as we decided yesterday to see how our first claim would go, then decide to renew it or not! What a huge waste of money and time. Their customer service is horrible. The lady I spoke with could not care any less! Please do not waste your money and your time with them. You have been warned! Stay away, they are just a scam!

If you're reading this, odds are you've been denied by Blue Ribbon for a claim. Here's what to do: file complaints with (1) the Better Business Bureau; (2) the Colorado Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section; (3) post your bad experience on Google, Yelp, etc. (4) consult with an attorney if need be. Our realtor gave us a homeowner's warranty through Blue Ribbon. When we submitted claims, customer no-service was a frustrating waste of time. The reasons to deny claims were endless. We got a copy of Blue Ribbon's contract our realtor agreed to. Talk about the devil in the details - pages of size 3 font are used. And this fine print is deliberately designed by Blue Ribbon to deny any claim. At best, Blue Ribbon is a weaseling non-performer; at worst, it's an outright scam. Either way, homeowners are hit twice - once for the cost of a "protection" plan, then again for repairs the fine print refuses to cover. BUYER BEWARE - stay clear of Blue Ribbon!

Read the fine print and imagine the worst. You will find coverage is very limited and provides a false sense of security. Sellers will often buy a plan to allay buyer fears but the fun begins when trying to make a claim. Blue Ribbon manages the repair process, determines how much of your coverage is consumed during a claim and designates the contractor. Repairs, if eligible, can take many weeks and the stated coverage amounts are significantly less compared to the open market when Blue Ribbon "marks up" the cost of the repairs.

My real estate agent bought me two of these policies for two homes I purchased as rentals. I thought that was extremely nice of her as I wasn’t expecting it. I wanted to add AC to one rental and this reputable HVAC company suggested a boiler check up. The very convincing report with scoped photos came back that this boiler which passed home inspection needed replacement. The issue is that home inspectors are not certified HVAC technicians. My inspection report did recommend certification but did not red flag the boiler. When my agent bought me the policy the only requirement was the house pass inspection. When I called a HVAC company (different from the company who did my maintenance) they indicated that a 10-year-old boiler should not need replacement so they didn’t come certify it. They also added they don’t certify boilers! BRHW said it was a pre-existing condition. I agree but if the purpose of a home warranty is to give new homeowners peace of mind then they failed miserably. This was my first experience as a landlord with BRHW and I will not ever use them. I recommended that my agent try to get a refund as she bought the policy only about 5 weeks ago.

I have had the Platinum Coverage for almost two years. I have used them two times for plumbing issues. Each time their "Plumber" tried to assert that the issue was something that was not covered. It seems as though the technician works for Blue Ribbon so the customer pays for all the work.
