Service Call Fee Flexibility

AFC Home Club lets you choose your service fee amount — $75, $100, or $125. The fee will be paid directly to the technician that comes to your home to perform any services or repairs.

It is important to note that whichever service call fee amount you choose will affect the overall cost of your coverage plan — the lower the fee you choose, the higher the cost of your plan and vice versa.

No Home Inspection

I was comparison shopping for a home warranty when suddenly I received a call from Randy D with AFC. Fortunately I had just reviewed AHS and Charter Home Warranties. Randy was ready for the kill. He had all the info on AFC versus competition. Most of all it was nice to converse with a human being. We spent a lot of time discussing options and best coverage. I am a disabled senior on fixed income. It was like he read my mind and I am a happy and thankful customer. Buying a 14 year old home in great condition does not mean it will be trouble-free. I received a warranty with this company in 2015. My realtor gave it to us as a gift. At first I was not really interested but when my AC went out that summer I called them a repairman was at my house within 3 hours. He fixed the issue and I have not had a problem with that since. When it came time to renew my coverage my account person offered a longer plan with more savings. I took that route during this time I have had 3 claims. All 3 have been handled quickly, I do have a $75.00 service fee but that is all I have paid each time. With my fridge, the repair guy had to come out a few times with different parts but it has been working great for over a year now. This was an unexpected gift from my realtor but I have been really happy keeping them on and having that protection from a really high bill. I do recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

Yes I was going to go with American home shield until I found out that they have had a large amount of problems with customers in the past I then checked out BPG home warranty which is rated number one I also got a hold of the Better Business Bureau which gave them an A+ I just got through talking to a gentleman they do excellent service I for one suggest anybody out there to go with This company and nobody else thank you and good luck

He was not pushy when we did not want to go with a 3 year plan and instead made sure that he met our needs. I had called Life Guard Home Warranty before AFC and I gave my number for a call back because they were too busy, I have yet to hear back from them. It was time to renew my policy, and she explained everything to me regarding the difference between 2 policies, and I chose the Platinum policy. Great coverage! Over the years this is the fifth different home warranty company that we have worked with. We have already submitted two claims with them and are currently working on the third. Across-the-board their technicians are courteous and prompt and always give us direct information. They have never failed to pay us in a timely manner for repairs they said that they would cover. We have had AFC Home Warranty for the past 5-6 years. We have had to utilize the warranty 4-5 times and each instance the Customer Service, starting with the initial call until the technician was finished was very good. Do to a couple of times not having a part the tech had to return, but it was still on the initial co-pay. Cannot say anything negative all positive. The Co-pay is reasonable, thee Service from the receptionist to the tech and the work has been good, and the cost of the warranty is very reasonable to compared to other companies. Try ityou should be happy with theservice!

I had an experience with three different home warranty companies; Landmark, Select and America's First Choice. So far, the America First Choice is far superior by convenience of customer service. I reported my claim entirely online and was contractor assigned within about hour. The contractor contacted me right away - literally. With other companies I almost always had issues to report my problem, to get in touch with contractor, to schedule service etcetera. I would definitely recommend America's First to everybody.

We bought our home a year ago, and our current warranty is about to expire. I've been shopping around for a replacement, and the product and customer service AFC offers is unbeatable. I appreciate that AFC offers a dedicated account manager, a real person I've spoken to previously to handle my service requests. I like being able to choose my own contractor to perform repairs. And I like the refund guaranty (i.e. if I'm not happy with their product, I will receive my money back, prorated). Not happy. Joined AFC on 06/08/2020 with a grace period of 15 days because of prior home warranty. On Sat 07/11/2020 dishwasher leaked water. Text said they would get back to me. Did not hear anything until this Monday at 9:25 to call back. Just talked to a person and said that I owe another $150 because of 30 day grace. Connor of you company verified that this was a 15 day wait period not your tradional 30 day.

Don't waste your time or money. They will find a way to make sure they do not have to pay your claim. I distinctly bought this warranty when I purchased my home because I knew my A/C unit was very old and would eventually go out. After giving this rip off company over $2100, the A/C did in fact go out. Their generous offer was for $180. Yep, $180, because of the age of the unit. This is the biggest scam and rip off I have ever been witness to. Look elsewhere, I will be canceling my coverage, as it is worthless. I still have a year left. I am guessing I'll get about $10 back from the. What a crock!

After calling for a leak under my kitchen sink, AFC sent a plumber. Because of what the pipe was made of, the AFC would not approve payment. So I paid $350 out of pocket, I want to thank AFC for such great service. You sent the plumber pretty fast, I Thank You for such fast response. Other than that, I have no positive feed back. Just trying to read "ALL THE FINE PRINT" in your contract with me, seeing that fine print, makes me want to find another Company, for my Home Appliance Insurance. Thank You, for nothing.

Call queue times are horrendous. 10-20 mins per call to get a Service Rep on the line. I called for a simple plumbing leak issue and it took 72 hours to get a contractor out onsite. The contractor kept calling me telling me they needed a credit card on file in order to service the repair request even though I kept telling them I was the Home Owner and AFC was the Home Warranty company to get such info from. The plumbers showed up trying to repair what they thought was a broken pipe in the wall even though no such description of a breakage was ever given to AFC. I have had AFC for 1.5 yrs now and this was the first time I have to use them since joining and I am under whelmed so far.

As a Disabled Veteran and Consumer, I am utterly appalled by this company. This company talks a good game but does not follow thru. I filed a claim to because my Ameristar AC was not blowing out cold air. Since it came with the house 3 years ago, forgive me for thinking that i would file a claim. They would send a technician out to see what is wrong. Maybe the AC needs a little Freon, or a valve is not fully open because they do offer that in the warranty. Nope just the runaround and there is nothing we can do. I had no information on it which is why I got a home warranty. Go figure... They call me back and tell me that I have to contact Trane because it is still under warranty until 11/22 and they can't do anything with it. So, I call Trane who tell me they are not responsible for service calls. A service technician needs to come out to see what the issue is and if it is Functional part, they can send it in for a replacement. They asked if I knew who installed it because they did not register it. I told them no because it came with the house. Why that matters you ask? Because since they did not register it there is only basic limited warranty. I even went as far as to look on the Ameristar website it said the same thing. So, I call AFC back they tell me there is nothing they can do because it is under warranty. That if I like I they can recommend but then they are out of it. I got the warranty in case something needed servicing, I wouldn't have to pay more than a deductible to have a technician come out and the repairs. Now they want to recommend a technician to come out not knowing how much cost is going to be incurred. in trying to use the AFC home warranty, I have found out they don't cover nothing and come up with reasons not to pay for nothing. Initially I liked that they let me use my own repair people. Beyond that, if your appliances are not new, stay away from them. They do not cover all components of the appliances, so things that are more likely to be a problem are likely not covered. Then they prorate so that if your appliance is not new, they pay next to nothing. They offered me $289 to replace my heater. Even though the repair technician said it did not need to be replaced, just because of the age, that is what they were initially going to pay for. They finally agreed to pay $289 toward the cost of an $800 repair. So the proration they use for age will end up giving you a very minimal payment. After that experience I cancelled. They charge an up front fee toward a 3 year plan. So when I cancelled after less than 11 months, I had paid them $833. When you cancel, they use another proration algorithm to determine what of that up front fee you get back. But they subtract any claim payments and charge $75. That works out nicely so that they don't give you anything back if you have the misfortune to make a claim. You can do better than these folks if your appliances are not new. And watch out for the components that they do not cover at all.

I filed a claim because my water heater is leaking. I received an email stating that I could get reimbursed if I find a technician myself. I found a person who could come out today (12/15/2021). In the meantime, America's First Choice sent an email that they have found a technician. This technician could not come out until Saturday 12/18/2021. I contacted America's First Choice and told them I have a person coming out today. They informed me since they have found a technician I would not be reimbursed even though my water is turned off and I can't wait until Saturday. I hope people can see this and not take out a warranty with America's First Choice.

Sent Mr. Powers a message he is not a member of the AFC Home Club, we are awaiting a response about this review that is not meant for AFC. Mr. Powers, You have not had coverage with AFC Home Club since 2020. You did not renew with us, we are the only company that always lets you choose your own tech. I am sorry the company you are with is not allowing that but you need to remove this false review and place it for the right people, thank you.

1) The salesman did not adequately answer my questions or explain the coverage. 2) I assumed I would need to have an inspection but the salesman told me I did not need one and that they assume that when I bought the house that I would have made sure everything works. I told the salesman that the house and the AC unit were old but he did not inform me that if it is over 10 years old, they will not cover it; which they didn’t cover it. Nor did he tell me about their pro-rating system. 3) Documentation and website information gives conflicting information about inspections. In the FAQ section of the website it says that an inspection is not required for coverage and that items are covered after 30 days. The system was operational when I purchased the house and the AFC coverage and it was months before the system quit working. But in the Limitations section of the AFC Home-Club terms it says that you will be "required to provide prior proof of a satisfactory maintenance check-up within the last 12 months to receive coverage." This contradicts the spirit of their no inspection needed claim. 4) The coverage I purchased is worthless to me because of the age of my house and it's systems but they refused to give me a refund.

At first I was excited to sign up with this company because their prices were so much better than everyone else. When it was time to actually file a claim, however that is when everything went down hill. First claim I filed they denied saying I had a 60 day waiting period of which I was never told about from the sales rep. So I had to pay for that one completely out of pocket. Then the next claim a few months later for a crack in my toilet they found another reason not to cover it so I paid for a new toilet out of my pocket with no help. The last claim I had…. let me preface our house was 30yrs old with no upgrades on really anything so things started to break…. We filed a claim on the brand new ac unit we had for the thermostat that was also less than 6months old because it just stopped working. Due to the unit being new they covered nothing. I was told by multiple reps and a manager that since we had a new unit that they wouldn’t cover it because it was under manufactures warranty. Well the manufacturer warranty for a Lenox unit only covers parts no labor and our home warranty would not cover any of this although it said it would in the contract. Needless to say after that I was done and cancelled the policy. The best part is they gave me $150 towards a faucet to be fixed and they deducted anything they paid in the last few months from the prorated premium I had paid for the year. I would not recommend them what so ever.

I had three claims that were not accepted due to fine print. My A/C went out and the repairs were not covered because I had not had a tune up in the previous year. My oven went out and they only offered to pay $100 due to the age of the oven. My pool pump went out and they would not cover the cost because I had only had the warranty for just over a month. I was not told about any of these conditions when I signed up for the service. Additionally, they auto renewed my membership after receiving an email that stated my contract had expired and to call if I wanted to set up a new one. I would not recommend this company.

It is very important to get your HVAC tuned up as it is a requirement of the manufacturer and overall good for the air quality and safety of your home. Terrible just terrible. It so far has taken over a month to get payment back on buying new dishwasher to replace old. Said they sent check yesterday, we will see. On my ice maker the technician told me he didn’t understand why AFC was not paying more for repairs. Ice maker was not working and they did give max on that but another problem caused the ice maker problem and the would not pay for it. Told me that they would only pay for ice maker and not what caused the problem that had nothing to do with ice maker. Told customer service person that I guess that I will have to look for another warranty company and she told me that sounds great. I have worked with customers for a long time and knew that it does not do any good to yell or get upset. Was very cordial to them but this is terrible. Will be looking for another company when contract is over.

All membership guidelines are provided upfront as well on our website. Home warranties are very similar across the industry. I’ve had no claims honored! No coverage for act of nature coverage! Old products or not properly inspected are not covered - even though we pay each month year after year! I think those rules should be changed to better service customers warranty products that they pay for each month!

I have twice now been denied a claim. The first time was in violation of the policy given to me when I first paid. AFC, although it is not written, decided my HVAC repair did was not worth it. First they said the unit was too old. When neither of us were able to find where that is written, they changed their mind and said the component wasn't covered. When I showed them that it was, they asked if I wanted to file an appeal? There was no way to convince them that their policy and my situation merited action. This company is horrible! Every time I speak to an "agent" I am put on hold for long periods of time while they confer and answer my question. If I ask another, it takes another 10 minutes for an answer.

All guidelines given at the time of sale are true guidelines, also the guidelines on our site are true guidelines not a sample. There is never a case where the unit is too old, this is what coverage is for. I reviewed your account and see your request. If the unit is failing and a temporary repair is placed on the uni,t prior to being with AFC Home Club, to get the units last use this is not considered a good working unit or preventative maintenance. If you have any problems getting answers to your questions we have managers available from 9 am to 8 pm EST if it is after those hours and you have specific questions about mechanical items or questions a technician may need to explain to you will want to send an email or call during normal business hours to speak with technical support. Thank you for your time and hopefully this clears up any questions you may have.

The website is not very user friendly. I had trouble logging on to my account and then once it allowed me in, trying to navigate between screens was just as difficult. Apparently the server was having issues but it was still faster to schedule a service appointment online than over the phone.

Cheaper but do all possible to avoid paying. I had my washer go out and the replacement part would've been $200. Apparently, a contract stipulation allowed them to pay $150 to replace the washer which the opted to do of course. Thought I could take the $150 and just add $50 of my own and buy the part. No! You have to provide a receipt of the washer you buy and it had to be picked from a list of washers they allow. I wish I had gone with another company!

I purchased this home warranty for one main reason. My husband was a handyman and handled everything during our marriage. He was diagnosed terminal and wanted me to be protected. Working with AFC was a challenge. They never wanted to cover anything. I needed help with my washing machine lid. The hinges broke, they said it was cosmetic and would not cover it. Since when are the hinges cosmetic. If the lid doesn’t close the computer panel will not turn on. My dishwasher was a Samsung and they had difficulty getting a technician to service a Samsung and the distance they needed to travel. I could go on and on but I’ll finish by saying that when I finally decided to cancel my 3 year contract they subtracted any amount paid for repairs off the the unused premium.

Both times we called AFC the companies they sent out were sub-par. Both companies were pretty much going to charge us a lot of money and told us most of the bill was NOT covered by AFC. We got a second opinion on both calls and made out much cheaper paying ourselves with other companies. We felt AFC sends out newer companies that we didn't really trust. Can 't believe they have good reviews. Not feeling these home warranties are worth it.

All of our technicians are licensed bonded and secured. We do background checks and have fair market pricing on what they should charge. Since they are not employees of AFC we cannot always control what they may say. This is why we are the only company that allows you to choose your own techs! Who knows your area better than you? No one, this is why you will always have that choice with AFC. Also if we send someone out you do not like just let us know, we will make sure to not send them for repairs again.
