The Bad

  • Negative Reviews
  • Must Provide Personal Information to View Quotes

Negative Reviews

Although GEICO auto insurance reviews on BestCompany.com are mostly positive, the car insurance company has also received a fair number of negative reviews.

The reviews include communication issues with customer service representatives. These communication issues lead to misunderstandings of coverage and billing issues.

Reviewers also complain of wait times to reach a representative. Others had issues with claims.

While GEICO has mostly positive reviews, it's important to consider these complaints before deciding to buy an auto insurance policy.

If you're concerned about these negative reviews, you can find another car insurance provider that has a lower proportion of negative reviews.

Must Provide Personal Information to View Quotes

Before you can view quotes on car insurance, you need to provide your zip code and other personal information. This information includes your driver's license, address, and car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

If you're just in the research stages, you may not want to provide this information. However, an auto insurance provider will typically require this information to show realistic quotes on policies.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking to save money on car insurance, GEICO is worth researching further. You can save money by customizing your insurance policy and by qualifying for GEICO 's many discounts.

GEICO has primarily received positive reviews on BestCompany.com, which is promising.
However, it has a higher proportion of negative reviews compared to other auto insurers. Considering these reviews will help you make a good purchase decision.

With GEICO insurance, you can also benefit from a helpful mobile app that makes filing claims convenient. You can also have peace of mind when you're getting covered repairs by participating in GEICO's Auto Repair Xpress® program.

While you do have to provide personal information to view quotes, the savings and service offered by GEICO make it worth considering.

I used to be a completely dedicated Geico customer. I had this for 15 years! 15!!! I had my son obtain this insurance as well as my mother, and I always tried to encourage people to use Geico! That changed drastically because the customer service appeared to literally go downhill overnight! I tried hard to stay loyal to Geico but was just over it after the final 2 years of the 15 years. Funny, for a year after I ended my auto insurance with Geico I kept getting letters and emails stating "we miss you" and to come back....wish that dedication and level of customer service had been there in the final 2 year I was a customer!

Geico's 30% continued rate increases are terrible, my wife and I adjusted our car insurance coverage lower and lower just to try to offset Geico's 30% rate increase over two billing cycles. No tickets, no accidents, nada. When I called I was told the increases were due to other drivers? (BS) and they had to keep their profit margin, all during a pandemic when no one is driving, I'm calling on Florida to investigate these out of control rate increases, go elsewhere, we found the Hartford less expensive and received a better coverage policy with guaranteed no rate increases for one year whereas Geico raised their's every six months, go elsewhere!

My rate for my car and RV rose over the years to almost 500 dollars. I had 2 claims , both related to hurricane seasons in FL. When I tried reducing the cost, and cut as much as possible including raising the deductibles to max, the cost didn't drop one cent. I later learned the 2 weather related claims did not go under Comprehensive , instead they filed them under collision, because your not supposed to raise rates due to weather issues when claimed under comprehensive. When i switched companies I was told because they filed them a collision they had to put them down in the new policy as accidents which , of course made the new insurance costs higher. Even so, my policy coverage dropped from almost 500 a month to 150 a month for both car and rv.

I was recently in an accident where I got rear-ended, so not at fault. While I had a concussion to deal with, Geico made me handle all the insurance claims with the at-fault party only to find out the driver was not insured. It took 2 weeks for Geico to give me a rental car and assess my damages. After 2 weeks, I found out my car was totaled and Geico was ending my rental car coverage in 4 days, without even informing me of what the next steps are to replace my totaled vehicle. They also raised my premium by $600 a year, even though they explicitly told me they wouldn't because I wasn't at fault for the accident. Also, my adjuster won't respond to any of my calls.

I was a Geico customer for over ten years. After getting an accident that was my fault, I was told that I had accident forgiveness. However, when my policy was renewed, they let me know I wouldn't get this discount due to my previous wreck. How does that make any sense? It also took them over a week to get back to my to see if it would apply. Times are strange so I am fine to look over that, but I can't believe how much my premium went up in a scary time for all. When I asked, I was told that my premium rose because of the unforeseeable future in my area. As a resident of New Orleans, I was completely floored by this. My insurance went up to $400/month. I have great credit, and only one wreck. I am extremely disappointed by this, and further, after getting a small refund for being a Geico customer for over ten years, they told me at the end of my call I would be getting billed for the discount since I was no longer renewing. The whole thing is seriously unbelievable and I'm floored after loving Geico for over a decade. They will not be getting business from me anymore.

Never again. When I really needed you, you weren't there. I have been a loyal customer for 7-10 yrs. I have never once needed road side assistance. Until today. On the side of a busy highway. I called for help. I was told since my leasing company incorrectly identified year model of my new lease my policy was invalid. Mind you I've been paying monthly without issue. They refused to send help, or be remotely human. Wanted to GO OVER MY POLICY while I was in duress. No outlet to tell me "yes, of course, we'll help you first and take care of this after youre safe." Canceled my policy and NEVER coming back. Will be your biggest ANTI ADVOCATE and spreading the word of mouth as often as possible.

I loved geico. I’ve been a customer for 10+ years. They were always helpful, and did their job. That’s all I’ve ever needed. Just do a good job and I’m cool. This recent experience has been awful. My car was hit and totaled in February. It’s now July, and it’s still not paid off. Geico has not, would not, follow up with my finance company. My finance company is terrible in this regard too, but two wrongs don’t make a right. The finance company lost 4 checks, and could not cash the 5th due to their secondary purchase of my contract. Geico refused to send a check to them in their name, even though the finance company had POA over the lien on the title. Two weeks later, I have to call back because no one will call and follow up. It’s finally being taken care of with the correct name on the check, but this should have been handled months ago. This was and is an ongoing problem with both companies, but it took me being a jerk to get it figured out. Both companies dropped the ball. I will be looking into switching companies. It’s difficult since I’ve been a geico customer for so long, finding someone who can give me a comparable rate, but I’ve gotten my belly full and I’m done. I’m just waiting on the car to be paid off, should be another two weeks. We shall see.

I had spent some time in another state with family due to deaths from covid-19. Geico decides to raise my premiums based on the state I was visiting because a couple mishaps, which were not my fault, happened to my vehicle while visiting. This is TOTALLY WRONG! I should have the right and freedom to travel wherever I want, whenever I want in my own vehicle!

Makes contracts for 2 years and claims you can’t back out, but in every case Comcast increases what you pay, claiming it on taxes. Even increasing several times a year. Then expecting you to act as Tech support when something is wrong with their equipment. Ever since they began working with business, residential services have suffered. They need to split the companies and compete for the most satisfied customers. Right now residential would lose.

I had gotten into a accident to couple days ago and they are making my process take so long. They were suppose to get someone to look at my car and give me an estimate before I left the state and it gave them plenty of time. I had finally found someone that was going to do it the week I was leaving and now last minute they reassigned me to a different auto adjuster. I honestly regret going with Geico they do not care of the customers.

We were Geico customers for many years. We liked their customer service and coverage options. They were easy to work with and payment was always easy as well. My only complaint is that we had clean driving records (no tickets or accidents for years) and when I was in an accident that was not my fault, they raised our monthly payments by a lot. We ultimately cancelled our coverage and have been with that company for nearly 10 years now.

GEICO one of most famous insurers in US. It likes to insure only the drivers who have no accidents or issues. That policy is good for their business and it is reasonable but it is bad for the driver. To the point. In 2012 I received several tickets totaling 6 points. No accidents no losses. My liability insurance with GEICO increased to $10,000 fo two cars in Brooklyn. Speaking with other insurance companies I realized it is a bad example of greed and bureaucracy. Switching to a different carrier return my premiums to the previous levels. I will never for as long as I live will use GEICO for automotive coverage and would encourage others to stay away.

I had Geico in the past so I gave them a chance again. Their rates are far too high and they just are not the company they used to be. If they would stop spending so much money on mailers and marketing, maybe they could focus more on the service model.

We've been with Geico for a couple of years. My husband likes them more than I do. We had several issues with trying to get cards in the right names for the right cars. They just kept messing up. Geico has been a real pain. We got a brand new car and have pretty good insurance on it. Unfortunately the windshield has been shattered twice in a couple of months from bad weather or a semi truck kicking up rocks. We've been super disappointed with all of the hoops we've had to jump thru to get this fixed and how high the deductible is. We paid it all and then when it broke again we had to pay the full deductible again. Apparently it's per claim.
