The Good

  • In-House Solar Installation
  • Zero-Down Financing
  • Solgen Power Solar Process
  • Off-Grid Options
  • Solgen Power Reviews

In-House Solar Installation

Solgen Power designs and installs all solar systems in-house — the company doesn’t work with other solar sales companies in the industry and doesn’t outsource any work. This in-house system diminishes the potential for a lack of coordination and transparency, which can often occur when a company works with other companies. In most cases, Solgen Power can ensure fewer delays, lower costs, and higher satisfaction in the solar process through its own team of professionals.

All Solgen Power team members complete rigorous solar panel installation training, ensuring that your solar system installation will be completed properly, increasing the performance and efficiency of your solar system. In addition, Solgen Power team members all carry proper insurance, licenses, and bonds necessary for each state and city in which Solgen Power operates.

Many companies in the solar industry outsource sales and installation work. While this doesn’t necessarily affect the quality of work done, it can provide extra peace of mind knowing that your chosen solar company will complete all work in-house, reducing the chance of details falling through the cracks and delays in the overall solar installation timeline.

Zero-Down Financing

Solgen Power partners with a third-party bank that specialize in solar financing — the name of the bank isn't disclosed. If you choose to finance through Solgen Power's partner bank, the company takes all Federal Tax credit incentives into account and provides homeowners with one fixed payment. Plus, homeowners can pay off the loan early (with no prepayment penalties).

Solgen Power does make it clear that there are some conditions clients must meet:

  • Approved credit (generally 650+ FICO score)
  • Homeowners
  • Qualifying debt-to-income ratio

The loan conditions outlined above are common with any loan agreement, but specifics, such as minimum credit score and debt-to-income ratio may vary.

Solgen Power Solar Process

Solgen Power has a comprehensive solar process, ensuring that your solar panels are designed to last. The solar process includes the following checkpoints:

  • Electric bill — To assess how much energy your home needs, you will provide a copy of your electric bill.
  • Custom designs — Solgen Power will draw up a custom design sample.
  • Financing — Get qualified for Solgen Power 0$ down financing.
  • Site survey — A site surveyor is sent to your home to get exact measurements for your solar panels.
  • Engineering — Solgen Power completes an engineered design and secures permits with your local jurisdiction.
  • Installation — Your custom solar power system will be installed within 1–2 days.
  • Inspections — Your local jurisdiction and utility company will conduct necessary inspections to ensure that your system was installed correctly according to code.
  • Power on — A Solgen Power will come to your home and turn on your new solar power system.

It is important to note that Solgen Power will walk you through each checkpoint listed above, and Solgen Power reviews indicate that customers typically have had good experiences with customer service when any questions or concerns arise.

Off-Grid Options

Homeowners that want to be off-the-grid can do so with Solgen Power.

While being off-grid isn't for everyone, there are some benefits: you can do the installation yourself, reducing overall installation costs, and they are an excellent alternative for rural areas.

In addition, off-grid solar panels can ensure that you still have power in the case of a power outage or if the local grid is down.

Solgen's standard solar system is grid-tied — meaning you are connected to a utility company for any additional electric needs.

If being off-the-grid is something you are interested in, make sure to bring it up during your initial consultation.

The Bad

  • Limited Solar Warranty
  • Cannot Install Panels on Certain Roof Types

Limited Solar Warranty

Compared to other leading solar companies, Solgen Power has very limited warranty options, and only offers a 10-year labor warranty. The company warrants the installation of your solar system against workmanship defects for 10 years from the date of conclusion of on-site installation.

The Solgen Power labor warranty doesn’t cover any damages that are typically covered by homeowner’s insurance, such as normal wear and tear, damage caused by fallen tree branches, roof shingle failure, etc.

Many solar power companies offer more comprehensive warranties that can warrant your solar panels up to 25 years. Thus, if you are looking for more extensive warranty options, you will want to explore other solar company options.

Cannot Install Panels on Certain Roof Types

Solgen Power does not install its solar panels on a wood shake or clay tile roof. However, do not take this as a sign to stop working with Solgen Power. The company can still install solar panels on the roof. Just be aware that Solgen Power may have to remove the shake or tile where the system is installed.

Most solar companies will not install panels on these roofs, so Solgen Power is not unusual. Homeowners with these types of roofs will have to consider the extra costs that come with this situation.

The Bottom Line

Solgen Power is a growing name in the solar industry. The company completes all aspects of the solar process, from design to installation, in-house with a professionally-trained team of installers.

Because Solgen Power is committed to in-house solar solutions, the company services a limited number of states when compared to other leading companies in the industry. Solgen Power services the following states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Arizona, and Texas.

The solar provider is candid about the solar process but promises to do its best to honor any deadlines. If you own a home with a wood shake or clay tile roof, there may be some extra costs, but this is probably the case with any other solar company.

If you are looking for a solar company offering comprehensive warranty options, Solgen Power only offers a 10-year labor warranty, which is extremely limited when compared to other leading companies that offer 25-year warranties with increased damage coverage.

Solgen Power reviews on BestCompany.com are mixed, but 66 percent of customers highlight a positive experience with the company. Satisfied customers frequently mention that they are pleased with the solar panels and equipment installed, but many customers mention challenges working with and getting in contact with Solgen Power customer service.
