The Good

  • Full-Service Solar Energy Company
  • High-Quality Equipment
  • Extended Warranty through Solar Insure
  • Cash Purchase and Loan Options
  • SEIA Member
  • NABCEP Certification

Full-Service Solar Energy Company

Solar Power of Oklahoma is a full-service solar energy company, meaning the company does not outsource its solar installations to third-party contractors. The advantage of working with a full-service solar installer for customers is in the start-to-finish consistency throughout the entire process:

  • Getting a Quote — Homeowners will speak directly with Solar Power of Oklahoma’s Solar Advisors to receive a free quote and consultation. Solar technicians will then calculate the home’s solar rating, and provide a final estimate for the proposed solar array.
  • Designing the System — Solar Power of Oklahoma’s in-house team of designers will then outline custom system components in a way that will maximize solar energy output as well as electric bill savings.
  • Installing the Array — After pulling all the necessary permits, Solar Power of Oklahoma’s licensed solar panel installers will begin building the solar panel system on-site.
  • Saving Customers Money — Once the system has been implemented up to code, Solar Power of Oklahoma will notify the utility company, and the customer’s solar energy system will officially become a part of the grid.

High-Quality Equipment

Solar Power of Oklahoma installs premium, tier-1 solar equipment into each of its systems; homeowners can rest assured that they will receive high-efficiency solar panels and inverters if they work with Solar Power of Oklahoma:

  • Q CELLS Solar Panels — along with a 12-year equipment warranty, Q CELLS solar panels boast an energy efficiency range of 17.1 to 20.1 percent, landing Q CELLS among the top five most energy efficient manufacturers in the solar industry.
  • Enphase Solar Inverter — Microinverters from Enphase rank highly among solar installation companies for their ability to convert solar power into electricity at a high efficiency rate, and their generous 25-year warranty. Although they tend to cost more than other inverters on the market, Enphase inverters are guaranteed to last the life of the solar panel system.
  • IronRidge Solar Racking — IronRidge offers some of the most respected and widely used solar racking equipment in the industry, and has been working with solar professionals like Solar Power of Oklahoma for more than 20 years to produce "strong, simple, and cost-effective products."

Extended Warranty through Solar Insure

As of April 2022, Solar Power of Oklahoma now offers an extended, insurance-backed warranty through Solar Insure. Good for 30 years, the warranty covers remote monitoring of panels and inverters, as well as replacement parts and labor. This 30-year warranty represents the best in the industry.

Cash Purchase and Loan Options

Solar Power of Oklahoma provides customers with two methods of financing their solar energy systems:

  • Cash Purchase — Often the fastest way to secure a fast return on investment, outright purchase of a solar panel system carries the highest upfront costs, but also comes with numerous benefits, including access to the federal solar tax credit and other incentives, and, the state of Oklahoma at least, will allow the system to pay for itself in about 16 years.
  • Solar Loan — Solar Power of Oklahoma provides two additional financing routes for customers who may not have the means to pay for their system all at once. First is a zero-money down option through its solar financing partner, Sunlight Financial (customers must have a credit score of at least 650 to qualify); the second is through local banks and mortgage companies. And like cash purchase, a solar loan gives solar customers access to the federal tax credit.

SEIA Member

Solar Power of Oklahoma is an active member of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The SEIA is an industry-recognized advocate that is fighting for 20 percent solar adoption in the United States by 2030. The organization promotes solar industry job growth, and policies that improve the competitive landscape in solar energy and lower utility bill costs for consumers.

NABCEP Certification

Solar Power of Oklahoma has received a certification from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Like the SEIA, the NABCEP is an industry-recognized organization; where they differ, however, is their focus: while the SEIA focuses more on policy and solar advocacy at state and national levels, the NABCEP promotes best practices within the industry itself. These best practices include professionalism, sales methods, installation and licensing protocols, and technology adoption.

The Bad

  • No Solar Lease or Solar PPA
  • Only Available in Oklahoma

No Solar Lease or Solar PPA

Unfortunately, Solar Power of Oklahoma does not appear to offer homeowners any lease or power purchase agreement (PPA) options to help them go solar. Solar leases mitigate costs by placing full ownership of the system on the installing company and charging customers a fixed monthly price that effectively “rents” the system.

PPAs meanwhile only charge customers for the renewable energy their systems produce, and like solar leases, place the burden of maintenance and upkeep entirely on the company. As neither option grants ownership of the solar array, customers will not have access to solar incentives or tax credits.

Only Available in Oklahoma

Solar Power of Oklahoma's solar panel installation services are limited to, as the name suggests, residents in Oklahoma. Although the company has installed an impressive amount of kilowatts (3,846) in the state since its founding in 2017, its reach is still limited when compared with the more well-known national brands. Local installers like Solar Power of Oklahoma will more effectively stand out from the crowd through verified reviews from actual customers.

The Bottom Line

For its size, Solar Power of Oklahoma is an impressive solar energy provider, and has done a lot to ensure its customers receive quality, affordable systems installed by in-house experts. Homeowners living in the company’s service area are encouraged to investigate Solar Power of Oklahoma’s offerings. Just bear in mind, the company only serves customers interested in securing ownership of their systems; so if you’re looking for a lease or PPA option instead, you may want to consider other options.
