Mynt Solar does not subcontract its solar projects to another installer, but rather consults, designs, installs, and supports every solar panel array itself. The company is so confident in its product, it even attaches a one-year production guarantee on every solar power system it installs; in the event the homeowner's solar panels do not produce the amount Mynt Solar projects, Mynt will refund clients the difference in cash.

Unlike several solar companies, Mynt Solar does not employ summer salesman who canvas entire neighborhoods, knocking on doors and sometimes employing deceptive sales tactics. 

Clear Payment Terms

Unlike many solar installers in the industry, Mynt Solar provides clear and transparent payment terms for those interested in investing in solar energy. While the sum total will of each solar panel system is unique to the rooftop it’s being mounted to, the solar contractor offers these guidelines as context for the company’s two different payment options:

• Outright purchase — For customers interested in paying cash for their systems, Mynt will require 50 percent down prior to the solar panel installation, and the remaining 50 percent once the system is up and running.
• Solar loan — For customers interested in brokering through a third-party solar lender, Mynt solar offers a zero money down payment plan for 20 years at 2.99 percent (these terms can be adjusted depending on need).

Both of these options entitle the homeowner access to the federal solar tax credit, which can amount to hundreds of dollars of savings each year. 

REC-Certified Installer

Mynt Solar installs panels manufactured by REC Group. These panels rank high for efficiency, with some models reaching as high as 21.7 percent — most solar panels fall within the range of 15 and 20 percent — and rival any top manufacturer in terms of durability, power output, and appearance. REC Group panels come with a materials warranty of 20 years, and REC Group-certified installers promise a 25-year workmanship warranty for every roof-mounted system.

Solar installers and staff from Mynt Solar do not appear to be NABCEP-certified. The North American Board of Certified Energy Providers (NABCEP) is a non-profit organization that promotes high standards and best practices, and protects consumers from predatory sales and installation tactics within the industry.

That said, Mynt Solar is no stranger to the latest developments in the solar energy community, and has been an active attendee of North America Smart Energy Week, a symposium sponsored by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA); however, industry-recognized certifications, like the one from the NABCEP, can provide customers with additional assurance of the trustworthiness and professionalism of the solar company they are dealing with.

No Lease or PPA

Mynt Solar does not offer lease or power purchase agreement (PPA) options to its customers. Although these options do not grant system ownership or access to tax incentives, they can be cost-effective alternatives for customers who can’t afford the thousands of dollars to pay for a solar panel system. Solar leases allow customers to “rent” their panels at a less expensive monthly rate than their traditional energy bill, while a PPA allows customers to only pay for the power their roof-mounted systems produce.

Limited State Availability

Mynt Solar only serves customers in Utah and California. While having such a limited service area is in no way unique to this solar company, Mynt Solar does inhabit a crowded solar market with several installers vying for contracts. Companies like Mynt Solar would benefit greatly from verified customer reviews that prove the product and customer service claims the company makes.
