The Good

  • Integrated Pest Management
  • Several Different Treatment Methods
  • Termite Control
  • Commercial Services

Integrated Pest Management

Dodson Bros. knows that household pests are more than just a nuisance. Ants, rodents, roaches, and other problem pests can lead to structural damage and health problems. The pest control company states that its technicians use a comprehensive and efficient system to remove any pests from the home. Using Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the company will identify any pest issue, and eliminate contributing factors that enable unwanted pests to survive.

Dodson Bros. covers a number of bug and wildlife species to fit your pest management needs:

  • Ant Control
  • Bed Bugs
  • Bird Control
  • Carpenter Bees
  • Centipedes
  • Cockroaches
  • Crickets
  • Earwigs
  • Fabric Pests (like moths)
  • Fleas
  • Flies
  • Ladybugs
  • Mice
  • Millipedes
  • Mosquitoes
  • Pantry Pests
  • Rats
  • Spiders
  • Stinging Insects
  • Stink Bugs
  • Termites
  • Ticks
  • Wood-Destroying Beetles

Several Different Treatment Methods

After the initial inspection, the technician will come up with a customized treatment plan to address any concerns. Depending on the type of pest and wherein the home, the problem occurs will determine what kind of treatment is needed. Homeowners and business can expect any of the following treatments:

  • Exterior Protection — a continuous barrier around the exterior of the home that prevents infestation
  • Insect Growth Regulators — replicating an insect’s natural hormones to disrupt natural growth and development
  • Bait —  using devices like ant traps to attract pests out of their protected environment and eliminate them with consumable baits
  • Directed Contact — Directly applied products and materials to the pests
  • Void Treatment — Treating enclosed areas (interiors of walls and underneath cabinets) to eliminate pests
  • Crack and Crevice Treatment — Strategically placing materials where insects live, breed, and hide
  • Structural Fumigation — More extreme cases might require fumigation

Termite Control

Following a positive termite inspection, Dodson Bros. uses an effective termiticide called Termidor. Termidor is applied underneath and around the home. When a termite comes in contact with the insecticide, it becomes a carrier and will transmit the termiticide to the rest of the colony.

Commercial Services

Pests are bad news for a business. That's why Dodson Bros. offers commercial exterminator services for a number of different business types. Whether it's a restaurant, warehouse, retail store, or a housing complex, unwanted pests and critters can ruin a company's reputation.

Businesses interested in working with Dodson Bros. to get rid of a pest problem will need to fill out a request consultation form on the company’s website.

The Bad

  • Plan Details
  • Employee Training
  • Lack of Additional Services

Plan Details

There are few details as to what a pest control plan contains. Dodson’s site simply states that it uses the Integrated Pest Management system to identify and treat pests and that the company has several strategies when it comes to managing pests. Before signing up, many customers like to know the details of what their treatment plan will contain and how often it will be implemented. While a pest control treatment plan does depend on several factors, it would be helpful to customers to have at least a general idea of what to expect.

Employee Training

Dodson states that its employees have the knowledge and training to treat any specific pest problem, but it does not say what kind of training or certification its employees go through. Leading pest control companies like Terminix put their technicians through rigorous certification programs like the National Pest Management Association's QualityPro and GreenPro programs.

Lack of Additional Services

Other companies in the industry will offer additional services alongside their pest control plans. Dodson does not offer any kind of lawn, attic, or crawlspace services.

The Bottom Line

Dodson Bros. has been in the pest control industry for 75 years now and many customers recognize the bright yellow trucks driving around town. The company strives to provide safe and effective pest control services and aims to keep its customers happy and satisfied.

However, a few things are missing from the Dodson Bros. website that would be helpful to homeowners and businesses looking to make a pest control purchase. Not having a thorough overview of what a treatment plan entails and not disclosing what kind of training/certification employees have, is slightly concerning. Additionally, there are no extra services, so customers will have to find another company to service their lawn, attic, or crawlspace.

We recommend that consumers call the company to find out more and compare Dodson to other pest control companies.

Poor customer service customer service hangs up on customers and will not let customer speak. Ashley Deacon is a poor excuse for a customer service representative. Company says one thing then fails to follow through on what they commit to.

I’m scheduled to have my house and garage with attacjphed apartment serviced every 2 months. The service technician came on Oct 25 without calling so they were unable to enter the home and apt. I texted with the technician and he said he’s been pulled from my account and his manager did our service on the 25th. On 11/3 I called the office and found out that the service was indeed done on the outside of the property and I would receive a call to schedule the inside service. I called back on 11/9 because I haven’t received the appointment. Today is now the 15th and I still haven’t heard. Since the manager did the service I would of thought they would of followed up.

We hired them to go into all our units at 5 properties in Greensboro once a month to treat for roaches. Tenants kept telling us they were not showing up for months. I decided to be on a property on the day they were scheduled to come out and witness the tech get out of his vehicle; go to one small building; squirt about 3 squirts on the foundation and get back into his vehicle. I then asked him why he did not knock and go into any homes as our contract stated. He stated he was told he does not have to go in unless we called for specific units. Mind you our contract was written based on units treated. I called and complained and canceled the contract. I would tell all property management companies to stay away from this company unless you want to micromanage we wasted a lot of money with them and did not get the service we thought we were getting. They then continued to send us bills and threatened to place us in the credit collections to mess up our credit if we did not pay. So we paid the extortion fee and parted way!

"I'm here to sell product" said John the technician in Staunton. He failed to identify, locate or remedy a severe bird Mite infestation. He was condescending to me, treated me as if I was delusional and told my landlord what he wanted to hear only as my landlord's wallet was the one he was trying to tap into. Typical salesman tactics. He sold LL on a "fungus" attic treatment. Got him for over a grand and down payment secured before he left. Bird nests in awnings, bird excrement piling up by windows and mites climbing curtains every warm day we have. Gross negligence. Unethical. He said to me "report me" when I expressed my feelings about his "inspection" here. I've tried to talk to owner, nobody returns calls. He did get some instant karma coming out of the basement as he smacked his head on the doorframe. I had to laugh. Consumers beware.

Dodson came to take care of the mice and rats. Did not go over the service agreement! Or even mention what it meant, NEVER heard the word CONTRACT! They said I would have to pay a little more than $200, 25 thereafter. Was charged $50 ongoing instead for about a 5 minute job. Ants and spiders are still a problem, so I called to cancel...she said "okay!" However, even after the scheduled date, they were banging on the door but left before I could answer...did leave a bill for $50 though! Laughed at me when I called! Terrible, unethical "men"

Initial visit very high. $200 for 30 minutes. Not effective. Paid a year in advance. Supposed to have service every two months. Did not get it. Cancelled our agreement. Took forever to get money back. Would neither do business with them again nor would I recommend them.
