LAST UPDATED: September 16th, 2021

A few Orkin reviews (below) indicate that Orkin is a reliable pest control company but perhaps a bit pricey when compared to others in the industry. However, many customers were happy with the exterminator services the company provided and stated that the service technicians were helpful and professional. The overall consensus was that homeowners felt the price was well worth the end result.

A bit about the company's background and pest control experience:

Orkin was founded in 1901 by teenager Otto Orkin. Over the last century, Orkin has grown and expanded to be an industry-leading pest control service. Orkin specializes in protection against common pests including termites, rodents, and insects. Orkin collaborates with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and major universities to help prevent and control pests, all while caring for the earth's environment.

Orkin also teaches students across the country about pests and pest management by supporting the O. Orkin Insect Zoo at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History and at the Orkin Children's Zoo at Zoo Atlanta. Orkin became a wholly owned subsidiary of Rollins, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia when it was purchased in 1964. Since its purchase, Orkin has grown into one of the largest pest management companies in the United States.

Whether looking for residential pest control services or commercial pest control services, Orkin has a solution for you.

  • Ants — Though you may be accustomed to seeing ants around the home, there are a number of different species that you may be unaware of. Some of these include the Acrobat and, Allegheny mound ant, Orkin works hard to ensure that pests are unable to take over your home or office. Each Orkin employee is trained to handle a number of different pests commonly that find their way into crawl space and crevices of your home on a regular basis including some of the following: Argentine ant, Bigheaded ant, Carpenter ants, Citronella ant, Field ant, Fire and, Ghost and, Harvester ant, Moisture ant, Odorous ant, Pavement ant, Pharaoh ant, and Thief ant. Unfortunately, keeping ants out of buildings is not a one-time event as they continue to find new ways to get in.
  • Centipedes — Centipedes can be anywhere from 4–152 millimeters in length (depending on the species), and prefer to hide in damp and dark areas in your home. It is not uncommon to see these pests in your basement, bathroom, bathtub, or sink. Though they can be annoying, these pests actually eat other insects helping to keep the numbers of other species in your home lower.
  • Cockroaches — A number of species of cockroaches are found around the United States. Some include: the American cockroach, the Brown-banded cockroach, the German cockroach, the Madagascar hissing cockroach, the Oriental cockroach, and the Smokybrown cockroach. Similar to ants, cockroaches can not be removed from a building just once. These pests are known for breeding quickly and infesting areas. If you see one, you can be sure that there is a whole colony nearby.
  • Earwigs — Earwigs are not uncommon around the United States having multiple species represented. These pests are nocturnal, so you may not see them during the day. They can commonly be found in dark and damp places and they regularly feed on live sprouts or decaying vegetation.
  • Millipedes — Millipedes are not dangerous, but they can become a nuisance when found in large numbers inside your home. Typically, these pests live outdoors where they have access to damp soil. If the climate becomes too hot and dry for them, they will find ways to get inside and hide in dark, damp, and cool places.
  • Rodents — A number of rodent species can easily find their way into your home or commercial space. Common species include: Cotton rats, Deer mice, House mice, Norway rats, and Roof rats. Not only are these pests difficult to control, but they can also carry and spread diseases.
  • Silverfish — Silverfish, much like millipedes and earwigs, commonly live in dark and damp areas. They are attracted to paper and damp clothing and are often found in storage boxes in garages and sheds. When left unchecked, these pests can cause significant damage to papers, clothing, boxes, and wallpaper.

Orkin's Commercial Pest Control services help businesses with any pest problem. Orkin knows that even one pest can have a negative financial impact on a business and a larger pest infestation could be damaging to a companies reputation. An Orkin Commercial Pest Specialist will work with a business to target and eliminate pests and rodents to the customer's satisfaction.

During the winter months, Orkin focuses on indoor pest control with an emphasis on rodents, pantry pests, and other common household pests.

Orkin Termite Control

According to Orkin's website, homeowners spend an average of $3,000 when taking care of termite damage. To ensure that you receive quality services and excellent results, Orkin offers a number of termite control solutions to customers.

  • Termidor liquid termite treatments — This liquid solution is safe to use both indoors and outdoors and is commonly used in building foundations to provide a protective barrier around your home. Not only does it provide immediate protection, but it helps avoid future infestations.
  • Dry foam and Orkinfoam — Foam solutions are used to treat voids in interior and exterior walls. These may include areas around heating ducts and water pipes as well as spaces under slabs of concrete. Foam solutions have a very low moisture content to help prevent it from soaking through drywall and causing further damage.
  • Sentricon bait and monitoring — A termite treatment like Sentricon includes termite baits that can be placed in areas where termites may congregate. These termite baits disrupt the termite molting process, therefore stunting their growth and avoiding an infestation.

If you are worried that you may have termites in or around your home, it is important that you have a professional conduct a termite inspection as quickly as possible to avoid further damage. Treatment for termites is usually in demand between March–May and August–September, but Orkin has teams equipped and ready to provide service on a year-round basis if needed.

Orkin Bed Bug Control

One of the challenges with bed bugs is how quickly they spread. Over a period of just six months, a few bed bugs and multiply into more than 13,000. Orkin works to eradicate bed bugs by finding the root of the problem. Where they hide. After bed bug treatments have been administered, a team will continue to monitor the area to ensure that the pests never return.

Note: Ongoing bed bug services are not available in every location.

Orkin Mosquito Control

Though mosquito bites are not uncommon, it is not fun to come in after an enjoyable evening in your backyard covered in itchy bites. Orkin strives to "fight the bite" by applying a combination of treatments to break the mosquito's life cycle. This prevents the larvae from breeding, biting, and spreading harmful diseases.

Though the services listed above are fairly extensive, Orkin also provides pest control services for a number of other less-known pests including the following unwanted pests:

Research and Development

Orkin uses state-of-the-art research and development in its pre-treatment processes. The company focuses on the innovation of pest control solutions before client implementation to maximize effectiveness and efficiency in its A.I.M. Process.

A.I.M. (Assess, Implement, Monitor) Process

Orkin understands that each home is unique. The company's integrated A.I.M. pest protection process works to assess, implement, and monitor the home's pest population. In the Assess phase, a local Orkin pest professional conducts a comprehensive inspection of the property to identify what makes the property unique, what sanitation issues or structural conditions could attract pests, and how pests might get in or why they may want to. Building type, geography, climate, soil properties, and any conditions conducive to pest activity are considered.

In the Implement phase, Orkin works with the customer to develop a custom Precision Protection™ program that suits the customer's specific needs. If a product is needed, an Orkin specialist will select the most effective treatment with the least impact on the environment.

In the Monitor phase, an Orkin professional will monitor whether the treatments implemented were the best fit for the customer's situation through regular inspections and ongoing customer service. Orkin checks for signs of pest activity like eggs, structural damage, or any new conditions that may have surfaced since the last visit. All services performed, pest activity and other recommendations are documented.

Free Re-Treatments

Customer satisfaction is Orkin's goal. If a customer isn't completely satisfied, the company will aim to make it right. If pests return between treatments, an Orkin specialist will return for a re-treatment at no extra charge. If Orkin is unable to solve the customer's pest problems, it will refund the last service payment as long as they're a current customer.

See how Orkin's re-treatment guarantee matches up with Terminix.

1) I haven't had a bed bug problem for three weeks after the initial extermination, payed for by my apartment complex. 2) I was given an Orkin preparation list to complete before the bed bug initial extermination procedure date and it suggested to buy a new mattress , box springs and frame, I did for $900.00, only after the initial extermination procedure and put new encasements on my old infested mattress and box springs. Logically buying a mattress, box springs and frame should occur after the initial extermination procedure but, not according to the Dallas, Texas branch manager who stated "I couldn't be reimbursed for the $100.00 second mattress and box spring encasement set". That money unjustly came out my my own pocket after I told the first bed bug exterminator that I was expecting a delivery of a new mattress, box spring and frame two days from then. He didn't mention that I could remove and wash the encasement set to self reinstall them! Orkin's safety policy is for the resident to leave for four hours while and after the extermination and encasement set are installed. I wasn't able to watch the encasement installation so, I wasn't given a proper education on how they could be uninstalled and reinstalled! I removed and left the the old mattress and box springs with new encasements installed, at the dumpster to be picked up by the city trash collector to be taken to a trash land field. 3) Orkin also, initially sprayed for roaches previously to the above mentioned day and didn't do a competent job because, I still had many them shortly afterwards. They sprayed a second time and have seen only one roach since.

Orkin came out today to check our daughter's bed for bugs, none was found so he left. Well when it was time for bed I sent her to bed. I just went to check on her and the guy left my baby's bed a mess and I didn't even know it! The mattress wasn't even all the way on it was tilted!! And she was in there sleeping on the mattress with the sheet and the blanket hanging off and her teddy bears tossed everywhere! That really pissed me off to the max! Her bed wasn't like that when he entered because I personally made sure her room was straighted up right before he entered. This is very unacceptable!

They have taken care of my but problems in the past and are easy to set up an appointment with. Come right out to the house and made sure they knew my problem and then took care of it. Reasonably priced.

They guaranteed that they could get rid of our vole infestation and they didn't. We paid a flat $500 fee and we still had a huge Vole problem in the end.

They were very expensive to have our house treated for pests. Then we had to pay an annual fee of between $200 -$300 to keep the warranty going. Not great.

Used Orkin for some pest issues and they did a great job. Had to switch to a local provider as the cost for Orkin was too high.
