The Good

  • Moving Supplies and Moving Help
  • One-Way Destination
  • Low Price on In-Town Moves

Moving Supplies & Moving Help

U-Haul offers multiple moving supplies to make your move simple and easy. Also, U-Hauls is 100 percent buy-back of any unused U-Haul box, with receipt, at any U-Haul center nationwide. Some of the moving supplies U-Haul offers include the following:

  • Boxes
  • Covers and Bags
  • Moving and Lifting Tools
  • Rope and Tie Downs
  • Storage Solutions
  • Tape

If you need extra hands to speed up the process of moving you can request additional moving help:

  • Load/Unload
  • Pack/Unpack
  • Rental Truck Driving
  • Maid Services/Home Cleaning

One-Way Destination

Moving can be stressful and frustrating, especially when you do not have the right equipment to make the move fast and easy. U-haul is determined to help the customers by offering on-way destination moves. The hustle of driving a rented truck to its original location is eliminated by offering a specific drop-off location in the state where you have moved to.

Low Prices on In-Town Moves

U-Haul offers low prices on the moving trucks if you need to use them in the town where you live. Prices start as low as $19.95 with $0.69 per mile, but total cost is based on the size of the truck and how many miles you will be driving. Also, you have the option to pick extended days and miles rates if you need the truck for certain amount of days.

The Bad

  • High Price on Between-State Moves
  • Restrictions on Ford Explorer

High Prices on Between-State Moves

Even though the prices on the U-Haul trucks are cheap for in-town movers, they are much higher if you need to move to a different state. Depending on where you are moving, the prices can range from $170 to $1,200 on a small truck, and up to $1,900 on the larger trucks.

Restrictions on Ford Explorer

If you decide to use U-Haul as your moving partner, you're required to enter the make, model, and year of the vehicle you'll be using if you'll be towing a trailer. If you say that you'll be towing with a Ford Explorer, you may receive a statement that restricts you from using any of the U-Haul equipment because of the excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations.

gavel

The Bottom Line

U-Haul is a do-it yourself moving service that provides moving vehicles, as well as moving equipment, storage facilities and moving help. To make the process even easier you have the option to drop off the moving trucks in the location where you have moved to, even though you might have picked up that same truck somewhere else. If you are using moving trucks in the same town you live in the prices are affordable and customizable based on the days you need it for; however, if you need to moving trucks to move from one state to another the prices might go up to $1,900. Also, if you own Ford Explorer, you can not use their moving equipment because of the excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations.

Uhaul is notorious for getting customers in their door with their flashy ads all over their trucks of "Rent this truck for just $29.99 one way!" Well, that 29.99 turned into $189.00 after they charged me for gas and other fees. I refilled the gas myself prior to returning the truck but it was after hours so I dropped it off and put the keys in the drop box and the next day they ran my credit card for another $108 stating the gas level was not where it was supposed to be! I put $85 in the tank and I only drove a total of 16 miles round trip! These people take advantage of the credit card you put on file and charge you whatever they feel like charging after you leave. It's terrible!

Uhaul is always been a good company, my family and I have used them most my live… that being said, fall of 2018 I fill out their online questionnaire to rent a truck. So their Account Questionnaire thing is hacked , because Then an hour later I got a message from a different moving company.. Movingforward LLC , John J C , that had all my moving information and would move me for half the price because they were already going to take a load there. Had me pay him to an account in another country., I think the Canines Islands Well after they got my stuff in truck , they tripled the price., I said I couldn’t pay it so he stole my stuff, just drove off with it. I wasn’t the only person he has done this to… I wrote an email to uhaul and never heard back.

I've used U-Haul 6 times for moving purposes in my life. I have found them to be very fair and economical with a good variety of truck rental types and sizes. On the plus side their daily rates are very good, however there is a substantial charge for mile if you go a lot of miles in your move. In addition to customer service is pretty much been just average. Overall it's a good choice if you need to move and are willing to pack it up and put it in a truck and unpack it when you get to the new place. I would say the most important thing to remember is to estimate all of the cost from the daily rental, the number of days, the amount of miles and the fuel that you need to put into the vehicle which also must be returned at the same rate. If you do your homework you'll get a fair deal.

Make sure you keep your own U-Haul records near Boulder, CO! With three children in college away from home, you can't ask for any better idea than to supply a temporary storage option for their ever changing living situation! From apartment or dorms, you can count on U-Haul to supply you with a box that you may pack, store, and later unpack. The unfortunate part of this service (which we have counted on twice) is that the organization is quite weak in accountability, organization, and service. Our boxes have been lost two times with no record of box number or location of storage. Each time, causing great delay and burden with extremely poor customer service. In a different location (Fort Collins), we rented a truck to move our daughter. Each step of the process went perfectly: convenience, organization, service... excellent!

I can only review the service I had at the location near my home. That being said, it wasn’t the greatest. The cashier seemed to me she rather be somewhere other then there at her job. Then she answers like you are interrupting her day. I received no opinions on what size truck or storage I should use. I had no clue. If it wasn’t for the customer in the store I would have rented anything. The truck was dirty (inside) and ran really ruff. I had no problems returning the truck but then again it was a different person. Remember, it’s My location I’m reviewing .

Over the years I have used this company on more than once occasion. I have found they to really be average. The instore experience is has been about the same as the online experience. They get the job done but I think a lot of it is just that, they will do what is required to stay in business but they are not going to step up and exceed expectations.

U-Haul was pretty convenient for my short distance move from Central California to the Bay Area about 4 years ago. The price was reasonable and each day was only around $25 to add on so we were able to keep the trailer for several extra days to do a dump run as well. There were some availability issues that time, so we had to find a different location. We recently looked into renting a truck or trailer for a cross country move and the cost was incredibly high.

Trucks are usually a little older and not as well maintained as other truck rental companies. Uhaul used to be a cheaper option in my book, but it seems as though they have become pretty much the same cost as other places that you can get a better truck from. Never really had any issues with the customer service side of things, only once when I rented a unit and it was not available when I went to pick it up

While U-Haul seems to be the biggest and most readily available company when it comes to renting a moving truck, they have a lot of add-ons to the price that end up being a lot more than what was advertised. I know so many family and friends who are having trouble even getting a U-haul to rent (or having it unavailable when it is needed) within the last couple of years.

U-Haul truck rentals are a great service, Without the option to rent a U-Haul, I am sure I would have had to pay a moving company to move only a few pieces of furniture. I like being able to pack my own items, decide when I will move, the route I am going to take. And choose what services I will need . For only a fraction of the price of using a moving company .

I like how easy the mobile check out process was. It was pretty fantastic. However, I hated that the truck was somewhat dirty and I was asked to fill up the truck with more gas for a credit. I do not think that is a far thing to ask. Price was affordable but the truck I really wanted was not available.

The trucks are worn and tired. They do not repair damage from prevous renters. I am sure they bill them for the damage. You have to take pictures of all damage on the truck when you rent it and then upload them to their server. It takes about a half hour of your time. If you do not, then you are charged for someone else's damage.

UHaul is my #2 moving truck company. The reason being is their trucks are cheaper than the others, but they are not very clean. The box trucks are usually grimmy. Not a good thing for decent furniture. Very good for short moving distances and worth the money.

We had reserved a moving van online. When we got to the location to pick it up it was not there and we had to rent a different size. When we returned the van they said it was dirty and they would charge us for cleaning or I could go sweep it out. I opted to sweep it out. There was literally maybe a 1/2 cup of dirt that I swept out.

I used U-Haul to move 45 minutes away from my original home. The truck was fine and everything was great, it was just SO expensive to have workers help out for a couple of hours. It was not worth it and I just begged family members to come help. Like I said though, the truck was great.

I use U-Haul to get trucks and trailers for local transporting. They are super convenient and don't require a lot of planning. It frustrates me when I decline the insurance, and then they charge me anyway. I haven't had success getting those charges overturned.

Not the highest quality, but pretty affordable. Trucks and moving vessels are not always in best condition. Customer service can be sketchy, at times. Wish they used fragrance free methods to keep cabs clean and non-musty, as the stuff they use carm irritate senses a lot

I have used U-Haul only once to transport my car about 8 hours away. The prices they charge to rent their equipment is pretty expensive but they are a trusted brand so it is worth the extra money. They have a lot of options to suite your needs- depending on if you need a small or large transportation vehicle.

A necessary evil. Wish I had a truck. When you need to move and need the truck though, a good option. Don't buy the extra insurance if you don't need. Chances are, your auto insurance might already cover it.
